We stayed at Camp Ripan for 7 days in December 2024. We had booked a chalet for two, which included a small kitchenette for the week. The house had a second room with a bunk bed for two, so we used that space to store our suitcases.
We had the most beautiful vacation of our lives there.
The trip couldn't have started more perfectly. When we arrived around noon, the air was sparkling because it was so cold, and by evening, it had already started to snow. On the very first evening, my boyfriend—now fiancé—proposed to me with a beautiful and unforgettable engagement, making the vacation unbeatable from the start.
We had a reservation at the restaurant, and the food was of very high quality.
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of choices, and everything we tried was delicious. As a vegetarian, I didn’t feel limited at all because of the great selection available.
Thanks to the kitchenette in the chalet, we could cook for ourselves, and a supermarket was within walking distance for groceries.
The chalet itself was very clean and perfect for two people. The bathroom was nice and functional, and the bed was very comfortable.
There are many activities you can book on-site. We did a dog sledding tour early in the morning while it was still relatively bright. It was truly unforgettable.
In the evening, we also did an Aurora tour where the guide drove a snowmobile while we sat on a sled attached behind. It was pitch dark, and we rode for a while into a forest. It was absolutely magical.
In a designated section of the forest, there were free-roaming reindeer we could observe and feed. The tour ended with a short reindeer ride over a frozen lake, and then the guide prepared reindeer meat over an open fire in a tipi in the middle of the forest.
My partner was very impressed by how delicious the food was, and even as a non-meat eater, I was served a vegetarian alternative.
The guide was incredibly kind, and the entire experience was extraordinary and intimate, as we could enjoy everything together on the sled with some privacy.
Although it was cloudy, so we couldn’t see the Northern Lights on this excursion, it didn’t matter at all.
Since I got sick halfway through the trip, we had to reschedule our spa appointment.
The Camp Ripan staff were exceptionally kind and accommodating throughout our stay, and it was no problem at all to move the appointment.
One day we set out on foot to explore the surrounding area, but it’s definitely more convenient to have a car—especially if you want to visit attractions outside of the camp.
On our last evening, we visited the spa. The spa staff were incredibly kind, and the spa itself is truly one of the highlights of Camp Ripan.
In addition to the indoor area, there is an outdoor hot tub and another sauna. Experiencing that in the middle of the snow is something really special.
We were in the hot tub around 6 p.m. when the Northern Lights suddenly appeared, and we were able to watch them above the camp right from the pool—just in time before our departure.
When we got back to our room, we could still see them clearly from the windows across the entire camp.
It was unforgettable.
All in all, it was an absolute dream vacation, and we will definitely be coming back!
