Yelp
I went in on a Tuesday evening, actually made a reservation but did not need to b/c it was not busy at that time, and ended up ordering Mac & Cheese, Birria Quesadilla, Thai Garlic Shrimp pizza and Herb & Garlic Shrimp Pasta.
Decor:
Wow, very nice decor inside, darker color used throughout. Low dim yellow light, and low music playing in the background. There are 3 different sections it seems, regular seating inside, outside seating with misters, and at the bar.
Service:
Service is top-notch compared to what I am used to. Very good indeed. Plus 1 star.
Mac & Cheese:
These are not what I am looking for in mac&cheese. These are baked with a lot of heavy cream (my guess) as the base. Very very very, did I say very yet, very creamy (very rich) on the inside, with a little crunch/burned of breadcrumbs and cheese on the very top. A little bit on the salty side for me. The only star was the mac, seems like it was cooked till al dente. I will not order it again for this price point and salty level.
Birria Quesadilla:
A twist in quesadilla that I was not expecting, which is good. Tasted more like a Tortilla chip with fillings. The outside was thin, a bit dried and a bit crunchy on the edge. This dish was very bland compared to the ultra rich mac and cheese. Even after dipping in the sauce that came with the dish. Not sure what the chef was thinking when creating this dish, it was not good and did not blend well with the sauce. I will not order this dish again.
Thai Garlic Shrimp:
I was expecting a smaller pizza size but OMG this pizza is huge. No wonder the price range was high on this item. I like my dough to be crispy, thin and has a bit of sour + sugar in it. This dough is not crispy, it is thin, and that's about it. The white sauce and thinly sparsely scattered shrimp (like 2 or 3 shrimp cut into multi pieces long way) were not good. Shrimp has no seasoning, white cheese sauce was bland, no peanut flavor coming through at all, did not taste any garlic in the pizza nor any type of thai food flavoring, the peppers were bell pepper instead of real thai eye chilly peppers. I would skip on this pizza, it does not remind me of thai food.
Herb & Garlic Shrimp Pasta:
Looks very good, I mean great color contrast, red/orange in a white plate. This is a very very oily and a very very very rich dish. The salt level is higher than the mac and cheese appetizer. A lot of cheesy flavor coming through, over powering everything besides the salt. The pasta was cooked perfectly for me. I would skip this dish as well.
Drinks:
Old fashioned w/ sazerac rye. This bottle can be had for $20-30/750ml bottle. I had plenty of sazerac rye neat or on the rocks at home or other places. They claim to be bottled in a small wood barrel for 1 month extra, poured from the bottle into the small barrel, and kept inside the restaurant. I gave it a try and it seems to be a mixed drink instead of a classic old fashioned. My best guess would be vodka mixed in it. Avoid this, try a different drink instead.
Price:
It is what it is.
Serving Size:
Pretty decent size, I would not be able to handle anything else besides just the entree because of the size. I was full after the appetizer b/c of the size, I had to take 95% of my entree as to-go.
Will I return:
Depends, 90% no and 10% yes on returning.
