We had a wonderful stay at the Campbell House. It’s a beautiful hotel with a historic feel in the heart of Georgetown. Perfect location for our tour of old Malaysia. We stayed in the Opium room, which was extremely comfortable, and which I can highly recommend. All the staff were super friendly and welcoming, and made us feel very much at home. We ate at the restaurant onsite which was really fantastic food, and breakfast served there was really really good. We had an early departure and so the staff prepared a packed lunch as we didn’t have time for breakfast - extremely thoughtful and considerate!

First of all a big shoutout to the staff. From the moment you arrive, they are so welcoming and make you feel at home. During the check-in, we received a welcome drink and got very detailed information about the hotel, the neighborhood, food we needed to try, … Everytime when we left the hotel or arrived, the staff was ready to do a little chat and asked where we were going or what we did that day. The rooms were spacious, clean and very charming. Every afternoon, we were surprised with a new homemade afternoon snack in the fridge.

We had an incredible stay at Campbell House in George Town! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly welcome and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The heritage charm of the building is beautifully preserved, and every room is full of character, blending classic design with modern comforts. The location is perfect—right in the heart of George Town, making it easy to explore the nearby street art, cafes, and heritage sites. The in-house restaurant, IL Bacaro, served some of the best Italian food and breakfast was also excellent, with a lovely selection made to order. A special mention to the team for their hospitality and attention to detail—it really made our stay feel personal and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a boutique experience with warmth and soul!

We were given the last room on the hallway on the 3rd floor. We appreciate the extra steps and stair climbing, but it got annoying when we had to go back and forth several times a day, especially the common area is not well conditioned (= rather warm) - making it unwelcoming. Room AC was rather weak and the housekeeping made it worse shutting it down after cleaning our room. Leaving us a hot room coming back from sweaty outdoor. I would be fine if they left it at higher temperature to save energy but shutting it down completely is just not nice, considering we paid a good amount for the room. The restaurant was closed on our first morning so we were given cold sandwich in the fridge. We didn't realize the restaurant / breakfast is Western / Italian - our own mistake. Coming from the US, that's the last thing we want in Penang. In hindsight, we should not get the breakfast since there are so many local choices around the hotel. The location is great. We walked almost everywhere in Georgetown. Had to get ride-share a couple times due to time constraint and to escape scorching Penang heat. The room was spacious and beautiful in colonial style. Bathroom soap / shampoo supplies were empty / low when we checked in, which was very disappointing when we arrived late night due to flight delay. Some electric outlets not working. The staff fixed these the next day. We expected more since we paid quite high for the stay.

We picked Campbell House for it's location and weren't disappointed as it is a short walk from the likes of Love Lane with a great selection of bars and restaurants. Had a great time exploring the local area, spotting all the wall art/murals. Also really convenient for using Grab to get a taxi to Penang Hill and Kek Lok See temple. The rooms are stylish (we were in the Loft, a duplex room) and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Added bonus having a fantastic, authentic Italian restaurant on-site which is where you have breakfast. So good we ate there twice in the evening over the course of our 4 night stay. Highly recommend if you want to be in the midst of Georgetown

Our stay at Campbell House was wonderful. All the staff, in every role, was lovely and welcoming, and did a fantastic job. Kumar especially was a star, making us feel immediately at home and recommending great sites and eateries. The daily desserts and welcome beverages were appreciated details, and we were delighted when the housekeeping team decorated our room for a birthday. The thoughtful and welcoming approach was felt throughout our visit. The rooms were beautiful and the entire hotel is immaculately restored - we really appreciated the no-shoes policy as it made us feel more comfortable and assured us that the hotel was clean and well kept. The hotel itself is in a great location for access to great food places and exploring historic George Town. We look forward to visiting again, and have already recommended the hotel to our friends and family!

We had a wonderul stay at Campbell House Penang! The environment is very familiar and friendly and the staff is super helpful. We loved the themed rooms and the colonial style architecture and decoration. We arrived at Penang really without any plans and just followed the tips of the staff about where to go and what places and food to try out. It is also super well located, really at the heart of Georgetown.

Campbell House was absolutely wonderful! It is beautifully restored and very clean, and the staff is incredible, kind, and helpful. The hotel is very centrally located, with a Michelin restaurant attached that you can order room service from, which we enjoyed on their rooftop terrace. They stock your fridge with water, tea, and milk for morning coffee, provide a snack each afternoon, and a la carte breakfast. We stayed for two nights and could easily have stayed for another. Truly a five-star experience.

Yelp
Such a convenient place! We loved the staff here and loved how close we were to all the famous hawker stalls and dim sum restaurants. We could eat, come back for a break and then go out again. Toi Soon Cafe (Kaya toast and Kopi-o) is two blocks away and so is Lebuh Kimberley. The mall with the glass skywalk is about 10 minutes away. There was a street vendor selling soup noodles right next door and we saw tour buses stopping by (sadly the noodles sold out by noon and we didn't get to try it). I couldn't find a write-up in any of the blogs or books, but it must be really good. The hotel is a bit of a walk (15 minutes) to museums and the ports, so that's the trade-off.

Yelp
Five star service. Period. Spotless and well-appointed, unique rooms and professional, courteous front-desk service. Breakfast was very meticulously prepared, with attention to detail, fruit cut up decoratively, and well presented. Warm welcome upon arrival. This is a professional establishment. No elevator - and they have a unique way of bringing up the luggage with a rope! Lovely place, highly recommend. Solid.

Yelp
Very nice place. Located in an old colonial hotel right downtown georgetown. Great cozy atmosphere with friendly, efficient service. Good fun. Appetizers for 4 (antipasto) was fantastic. And surprisingly good value. Steaks and pizza were good. If u feel like splurging just a little bit, this restaurant is a good choice
