Guide to Carlsbad, California

"A rustic, hearth-centered restaurant built around a custom wood-burning fire that informs both the cozy atmosphere and the menu, which highlights smoked and grilled offerings like grilled Maine lobster, brisket, ribeye and wagyu skewers, with dessert nods to campfire classics such as s’mores." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. The app was the best food of the night .Bear bites . I ordered a hot roast beef that turned out to be a steak and cheese which was disappointing to say the least black and dry . My guest enjoyed the steak tips . Both meals the meat was black. . Mine was dry . The corn bread muffin top was dry both were to come with maple butter. One was plain butter . Last time I was here bread and butter was part of the meal. I asked for a lemonade and got pink lemonade . One stall in the ladies room was left open but non operational and the door was broke . The place is busy but it really needs a good cleaning . Waitress was super nice ! Nice local Maine wildlife artist , art on display .

A staple family friendly restaurant in Bridgton. Large portions and good comfort food and lots of kids options. The staff were very nice, we've been coming here for years.

Best restaurant food we have had in a long time. Everything was delicious. My husband had the delmonaco steak . I had the turkey, apple, cheddar panini. Also crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The corn bread with maple butter was awesome! We are from downeast Maine area and by far the best food we’ve been served in a long time! Our waitress Keely was also pleasant and friendly

Cass was the absolute best waitress we’ve had here yet! So great that I felt I needed to leave a review! We’ve had an older woman who was efficient and friendly as well but Cass went above and beyond. We didn’t have to ask for a refill, she paid attention to our dishes needing to be cleared, didn’t forget anything and was very kind too! We noticed she was this way with each table that she had no matter the age group or how many guests. The food was delicious (as usual) and portion size was very generous! I’ve gotten something different each time we go there and every time it’s good! Can’t wait to come back and try a few more things next time!

Came here on a very busy Saturday night. Brought our kids. We had a very nice waitress. They were very busy, but we were seated right away. Good french fries. Good burgers. There was a little bit of a wait but our waitress was attentive and gave us a heads up. Would definitely go back. And the kids meals were served on top of frisbees that they got to take home after. Pretty cool 😎

I'm not from the area but my son (Autistic with ARFID) wanted to go eat a restaurant and go to the drive-in theater to end his summer vacation, and after some research on Google Maps I decided to try it out...A-MAZING! Service was prompt, friendly, attentive, and above and beyond accommodating with special needs. Food was a good portion, came out in appropriate time, and tasted delicious. The atmosphere while sitting in the restaurant was very nice with comfortable/clean seating areas, lots of people but not loud, and cute rustic decor. I would highly recommend this restaurant to others, and will definitely be returning despite the long drive!

We called ahead and made a reservation. We were told 25 minutes after we arrived. We waited an additional 25 minutes while waiting. We noticed an empty table and that’s exactly where they sat us. Not impressed. No one was overly friendly nor welcoming. We were prepared to order as soon as we were seated And the waitress seemed annoyed. We ordered their special, lazy, lobster casserole, thinking it was going to be a creamy lobster with a breadcrumb type of topping. It ended up being lobster about 6 Ounces on a side Plate With breadcrumbs sprinkled on the top for $35! The fresh green beans side were the toughest I’ve ever been served. My youngest child ordered from the child’s menu, ordered mac & cheese, not only Was the pasta overcooked, but there was no flavor whatsoever. Our server never checked on us after she took our order. Another staff member brought our food, asked us what the second side was that we were missing, which was brought back after we were almost finished with our meal. Disappointed we spent $86 on a meal that was awful in every way possible. Never saw a manager checking on any tables. And the fact the server stood over you while paying the bill is rude behavior in addition to unprofessional. Complete ripoff!

Wonderful place to have lunch or dinner. Sit at the bar if you're by yourself and pretty soon you will make some new friends...if you enjoy chatting with strangers. If you would rather be left alone there are several small tables to enjoy your meal by yourself. The Bar staff is extremely friendly and helpful letting you know what's good to drink if you're looking for something new. Table service for the restaurant is just as amazing with tentative wait staff. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. The food was great. The steak was cooked to perfection and the flavor was amazing. The choices of menu items made it hard to decide because they all sounded so tasty and everything coming out of the kitchen to other tables looked wonderful. Prices are very comparable to other restaurants, the food quality and quantity are extremely impressive, very clean throughout, wonderful staff, and an abundance of parking. The bathrooms were clean and well-stocked. I would recommend calling ahead for dinner since it can get busy fast, especially during certain times of the year. I've been several times now and wait time varies. Sometimes you can walk right in while other times we've had to wait 45 minutes. After checking their website they also have special things they do such as trivia night. Make reservations for a large group or stop by and grab a seat at the bar. Either way, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Very rustic feel. Amazing burgers- I built my own with bacon, fried peppers and onions, etc. perfect clam chowder. My wife bought me a Boonie hat with their logo on it. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
What an adorable restaurant!! I loved the whole camping theme and how the kids menu items were sing- song titles!! Our dinners were good, waitress was accommodating and the kids were happy! Can't ask for much more when you go out as a family of 5.

Yelp
Warm bread was amazing! My son loves the root beer ribs! Salads were fresh and derives super!

Yelp
We pulled in here on a whim knowing nothing about this restaurant and it really was a hidden gem! So happy we stopped! They have a large bar and then smaller dining area. Our waitress, Faye, was friendly and helpful, giving us her best picks from each section of the menu. I had asked her about an ad on the table for a bloody Mary with barbecue bourbon. She had not tried it yet, as it was new, but went over to the bartender, who made me a little shot of it, so that I could try it. Very nice of her! I ordered this bloody Mary, and it was very good! The bartender, Liz, made it spicy for me, and it was very flavorful. Not a typical bloody Mary as it had a barbecue sauce type sweetness. It actually worked with this drink! We ordered one of Faye's recommendations, the BLT dip. It was as good as she said, - very rich! We had the Winona scallops and the Caprese pasta with shrimp. The scallops were perfectly cooked with buttery crumbs and honey. Excellent! I had Cole slaw and green beans for sides. Fresh green beans perfectly cooked and the coleslaw was fresh and tasty. The pasta was really good with lots of big shrimp and garlic butter sauce. Everything tasted homemade and good sized portions. There was a bit of wait for food, but when you know they are cooking it fresh, you don't mind. Prices were very reasonable. We noticed a prime rib special on Monday nights for $20! I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
We were in town (visiting Maine for the first time ever!) on a little road trip from NJ & I saw great reviews on this spot. We went on Halloween - amazing decor / staff costumes & sat at the bar (tons of locals in their own costumes and "funny accents" who were all SO sweet. Not to mention. Chris one of my bartenders/servers was committed to the costume with a mask on the whole time and constantly checking in! I regret not getting her name but the very kind woman serving us at the bar was also fully committed to the costume and was the sweetest thing ever. Now.... The Food. To die for, seriously. Elevated bar food? But the prior night I spent even more $ than I did here and didn't nearly clear my plate like I did HERE. My partner had the wigwam steak (picky hard head) and looooved it. Now me? I had the Cajun blackened chicken & my mouth is watering just thinking about it again. (Wanted to lick the plate after) - not to forget the corn bread with MAPLE honey butter on the side.... 10 out of 10. Thank you for this great place/top notch food, amazing workers/people, & home-y atmosphere. Thank you Maine & Campfire Grille!

Yelp
Very cozy and welcoming! Friendly staff and good food! We are there a couple times a month.

Yelp
Decent food. Decent drinks. Absurd bar rules that make you 'wait' for availability when there are empty seats. I keep trying to like this place but I finally give up. Never again.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting and my kids and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals and top-notch service. I'd love to come back and try some more menu items that caught my eye. It's not just a typical pub menu. It has a lot of variety to offer. This time around we indulged in the sweet thai chili wings and pretzel bites for appetizers. The wings were great and I loved that the pretzels came with a trio of dips. We saved the leftover cheese and dipped our fries and my pastrami sandwich in it too! The rye bread for the sandwich was a perfect combo with the pastrami. It was toasted but you could tell it was fresh because it didn't crumble or scrape the roof of your mouth when you bit into it. Sweet potato fries were a nice alternative to the basic fried that are offered everywhere. I'd also like to mention that they had a kids menu, which is super helpful when eating out with littles. Rumor has it that the margaritas are worth coming back for. I'll have to test those out on my next stop.

Yelp
The food is good. It's too bad that when I politely asked my waitress if the rest of my order was coming her response was "No." I am not sure if she was trying to be funny. It was unprofessional, rude and incredibly immature coming from someone who looked in her 50s. I want to come back for the food but will not tolerate that kind of service. Management should be aware that staff need to be better trained in customer service.

Yelp
Came back to Maine and visited Campfire Grill three times! The Tito's Bloody Mary is not to be missed. The Racoon Snacks and Cornbread with maple butter is wonderful! The veggie pasta dish is tasty and filling. The ambiance at the bar is just as tasty as the food and drinks! This is a place where everyone feels at home. Looking forward to coming back! Save me a Bloody!

Yelp
For the choices we had around here this place was fantastic! Service was excellent! We were seated and served quickly. But we never felt rushed. I had a big salad with grilled chicken. It was lovely, all fresh, nothing wilted! Hubby enjoyed an amazing looking burger and onion rings. That looked delicious. And we shared some perfectly crunchy cheese curds. I saw some amazing drinks being shared about. I will definitely try them next time.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food! Nice rotation of specials. We eat here frequently and love that the staff knows us by name.

Yelp
All around great service and food every time we go there the bartenders and waiters will go the extra mile

Yelp
This is the dirtiest place we have ever been in. The food was disgusting. Mashed potatoes looked like cream of wheat, ribs were all little bones. What was worst was no one wants to seat you or say goodbye when you walk out. We were so upset we did not leave when we saw food. This place needs board of health to inspect it. Disgusting!!!!!

Richard C.

Yelp
Good comfort food. Good service. Clean bathroom. Great happy hour deals. Enjoyed eating in the bar area.

Yelp
Generous portion of delicious food. Beautiful rustic decor. Delicious appetizers and yummy drinks. Service was great!

Yelp
We are here on a Friday night, and it was packed, even at 7:00 p.m. When we were seated, our table had not been cleaned. The server seemed rushed and was quite agitated when he saw the situation. It was resolved quickly. The bartender was much friendlier and took over service. I had the falafel burger, and it was quite good. The best part of the meal was the "duck fart" pudding shot. I'm not sure we'd eat here again, but people seemed to love coming here.

Yelp
Visited area from out of state, ordered takeout. First turn off was the long piece of hair hanging out of the round silver tin they put my food in... fries were cold, they forgot the requested ketchup. First person I saw to pay/pick up was pleasant, second person when I went in for ketchup, didn't even acknowledge someone was standing in front of her, the first person had to come up to see what I needed. Hair happens, I've done it at home but geez, at least acknowledge someone in front of you!!! We did just pay part of your wages... ambiance... can't comment as I only went in to the counter... thank you to the first person that actually took my phone order, cashed me out and ran back for ketchup, I appreciate you!

Yelp
The setting and food was great but our waiter Nick made the night special. I recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
My group and I went for dinner after work and they held our reservation perfectly. The whole establishment looked clean and our server was so quick and nice. The food came out hot and our group had. I issues. The server even accommodated for splitting checks which a lot of places don't do around here.

the service was very good. my sisters and I had a lot of fun celebrating a birthday. the food was delicious. we were so happy we chose this place.

Yelp
This place is the perfect example of great restaurants being hidden throughout Maine in smaller towns. Portland is known for its food scene and rightfully so but a lot of smaller towns have great spots as well. This place has that nice welcoming local Maine feeling the second you step in. They have a wilderness theme as you could assume from the name. The staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. I heard about their s'more tini and knew I needed to try it. One of the best mixed drinks I have had in quite some time. It drank so easy and smooth and tasted exactly like a s'more especially with the added touch of the toasted marshmallow garnish. This drink is a must have here. They also got a good taplist with plenty of local brews and their menu is on untappd and updated often. For food I went with their Scallops Casino special and it was super tasty. It was small portion wise especially for the price but sorta expected being seafood. My girlfriend got their angel hair pasta with grilled chicken added. The only real complaint was the chicken was somewhat cold. A table near us with kids also got a make your own s'mores dessert with a little fire brought to your table that looked like a good time for the younger crowd. Overall if you are in the area definitely check this place out if for nothing else than the s'mores drink. While the food won't blow your mind, you can expect a reasonable priced meal with friendly service and a inviting family friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
I've always wanted to go here for a bite and I am glad that I did. First off it's not a fine dining restaurant that coverts chateaubriand or Beef Wellington. I ordered the pleasant pond burger and it was magnificent. The patty was cooked to a perfect medium, the bacon crunchy and the egg wasn't overly runny. The sweet potato fries were crisp and a perfect compliment. I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular with the service and beer menu alone.

Yelp
always great service the food is great the warm baked to order bread is yummy! our favorite app is the blt dip

Yelp
Good food and awesome staff! Very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend!

Matthew S.

Yelp
Service A+ Food A+ craft beer needs to get better Always love getting in there around with holidays. The Boss Lady is always outdoing herself with decorations and awesome collectors cups for mixed drinks. (Need music in the dining area though, in my opinion. You're sleeping on this place if you're on vacation in the area and don't stop in for a bite

Kelly K.

Yelp
Omg local home cooking, Root beer on TAP!! First of all make sure you start with the raccoon snacks their take on loaded fries, best I have ever had. The steak tips are spot on seasoned to perfection, be sure to topped with peppers and onions. My son had a perfectly made angus burger and fries on a deliciously soft bun. Lovely outdoorsy feeling to the restaurant. The menu is just fun to read. The owner clearly has a sense of humor. If you get the chance stop here, very kid friendly!!

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner Memorial Day before it really got busy. I got the cheese burger salad delicious. We split the keg tots- spicy with homemade cheese sauce - also phenomenal. They were very friendly and accommodating server, friendly for kids and family. Our daughter got the kids mac n cheese which is a huge portion of homemade mac which my toddler loved. I really hate the Kraft mac and cheese most places serve so this was a nice change. It was $65 plus tip for 2 entrees, app, kids meal and 2 beers.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Never disappoints. We always stop here when we are at our lake house. They can handle our large party of 6 or more with ease. The drinks are great and change weekly. Every time we go, someone finds a new favorite dish. My kids say the mac n cheese is the best ever! I love their salads and sandwiches. The fresh baked bread is a must! We recently tried the onion strings and loved them (more like a blooming onion than strings but yummy). Be sure to save room for a pudding shot- the perfect dessert!

Steven B.

Yelp
$20 prime rib, and it comes with two sides. service is always good and fast even when they are busy. their burgers are good too, pretty much everything that comes out of the kitchen looks good. cornbread is the best ive ever had.
google avatar

Saadet A.

Yelp
The service was 5 star. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The BLT dip is worth a try, super tasty The bourbon pasta was good but a little on the dry sauce and not too much flavor The chowder was ok, but again lacking flavor. The consistency was perfect

Brian L.

Yelp
Into the campfire Grill, numerous of times can't even remember how many keep coming back great service, awesome food and extremely friendly service from the waitresses. Awesome. Awesome. Keep up the great work just went to evening. What an awesome job on the Christmas decorations place looks great.
google avatar

Susan Y.

Yelp
The burgers are excellent, with plenty of creative add ons. Do not miss the homemade sourdough bread or the homemade corn bread. We wanted to take more to go! The mixed green salad with candied nuts was fresh and tasty. Our server, Martha, was outstanding. We had a number of special food requests (we can be a bit high maintenance!) and she was patient and flexible. She was super friendly and was genuinely interested in making sure we were happy and well fed. We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We've stopped here several times and the wait was too long. The reason is this place is great. Our party had 2 Appatizers, 4 entrées and several mixed drinks. Everything was great. Also really good service. We shall return.

Yelp
My cousin and her family recently built a second home in Naples. This was the first place in the area they ate and they immediately fell in love. I've only been twice so far, but both times the service has been awesome and the food amazing! In just 4 short months they already consider us "locals". From the amazing burgers to the pudding shot endings, everything is always on point. Can't wait for the next trip up!

Chris T.

Yelp
Local establishment that comfortable and casual. Great food presentation and even better quality. Service was spot on. Good drink menu with some local flair. Enjoy!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
We tried Campfire Grill after checking Yelp and it didn't disappoint. The wait was super long solely because short staff and they had a big rush as soon as they opened. Everything was fantastic and the service was exceptional even though it was slower. We can't wait to go again. Each meal was done so well.

Allison S.

Yelp
Had been to this restaurant a couple times before when it was at the motel. It was meh then. Probably different owners. Wasn't looking too much forward to going again, but my family wanted to go. Later dinner, so prime rib special was sold out. Variety on the menu was nice. A lot of tempting items. Food was better than I was expecting. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and we left pleased with our experience. Giant 1/2 lb burger, good bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese, and decent fried fish.

Joe F.

Yelp
Decent food. Prices have gone up recently. The food quality for the price is lower value than other of my favorite places in the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and service is fine. Definitely worth trying but I will likely go again as my members of my family enjoy it.

Shannon S.

Yelp
Food was good and menu bigger than all of the other places we had been. options for everyone. Pudding shots were cute and delicious. Would go back!

Yelp
Love love LOVE!! My boyfriend and I came for a late dinner and some drinks a couple weeks ago. The bartender was so incredibly sweet, funny, and even recommended hiking trails for us! We ordered a rum bucket (pictured above) which was absolutely phenomenal. After that, I tried the White Sangria on tap - way bigger than I was expecting! My boyfriend tried the frozen Moscow mule and enjoyed every sip. Our food was out of this world!! I ordered the Bald Peak Mac N Cheese which was really yummy but my boyfriend's dinner was unbelievable. He got the Mount Washington Meatloaf.....FLAVOR HEAVEN. We are already planning our next trip to Maine and this is our first stop!

Yelp
We came here a couple of weeks ago on a Monday night and were offered prompt seating at a table. Our request for a booth resulted in about a 5 minute wait, which was not a problem. Our waitress did her best but she had a huge party of about 12 or so that were in the middle of their meals when we were seated. This resulted in a bit of a long wait to be acknowledged, to get our drinks and order our meals and for her to check on us after the meals where delivered. It wasn't horrible or bad service by any means, just not great. However she was friendly, helpful and took her time with us when she was at our table, never making us feel rushed. We started with the sourdough bread, which was warm and toasty, straight out of the oven and served with fresh butter that was not hard as a rock. The sourdough taste wasn't really there, but I admittedly like a strong flavor. The only problem was that it was so hot that it made it difficult to cut. The first few slices were fine but after that it was hard to cut and the bread just squished down to about an inch or two of thickness. We also had the Caribou curds. We had already dug in and removed about a dozen before the picture was taken, so keep that in mind. These were scrumptious and everyone in the family enjoyed them. The cheese was perfectly melted, lightly coated and not greasy. They were served with a Sirachia aioli which was good but very mild. For our mains everyone ordered a version of Mac & Cheese, except for myself. First up is the plain children's Mac and cheese. It was nice to see that it was a homemade sauce with spiral noodles, served in a dish on top of a frisbee, with their logo, that you get to keep. The Bacon cheeseburger Mac and cheese was loaded with meat as was the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese. While they were both very good the buffalo chicken was my hands down favorite of the night. I ordered the Ledges capellini. For some reason I thought the balsamic would play more of a part in this dish than what it actually did. It seemed to lack on mine, compared to other pictures I had seen. What I did get was an enormous pile of angel hair pasta served with a light sauce made with freshly chopped tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with a bit of basil. I also added the chicken, which was a full breast, grilled and sliced up. The dish was good but I probably would not order it again as I really wish I had been able to taste the balsamic. We had tons of leftovers, enough for another meal back at camp. Overall it was a good meal and we would come back again ordering some different choices. I'm sure the service wasn't normal due to the large party so I took a star off for that.

Yelp
Great restaurant in the lakes region! Service is great, the inside is spacious, the bar is cozy and cute, their cocktails are delicious and the menu/food is very well-rounded. We were really pleased when we finally got to go. Nice, easy place to go get a good meal and a stiff drink.

Yelp
Back for a second time. We thought we were going to be in for a wait but were seated right away. They also have outside seating which helps with the Covid regs. It was busy, the waitresses were hustling. Our waitress was very attentive, did her best and totally owned a hold up with an order, that's integrity, not blaming the kitchen, kudos to her. I was born and raised in a fishing town so I am picky about my seafood but decided to take a chance on the scallops. They were the Winona sea scallops cut into smaller pieces ,as most restaurants seem to be doing now. They were delicious, and cooked perfectly! I got the mashed sweet potatoes and fresh green beans, which were also yummy. The rest of the crew was happy with their choices also. The hub got the Woodsman burger. My bff got a salad and her hub got the Mac n cheese. I snitched a taste of the Mac n cheese and I'm seeing lobster Mac n cheese in my future .

Yelp
Good food and good service. The Buffalo mac n cheese, flat bread, and ribs were all great. The feta appetizer is my favorite. And good drinks!

Yelp
Surly, humorless waitress serving overpriced, undercooked food in a dumpy, characterless setting. Poor experience.

Yelp
Delicious food!!! Service was absolutely amazing. There bread was something like I've never had before. I definitely will be coming back
