Camping municipal de l'île d'Or

Site generally OK and reception when we arrived was great. Very busy site. Had to queue for the grey water disposal point. Short walk into the town. Pretty views of the river Loire and the chateaux. Many bars. Too busy and touristic for my liking. We stopped in a bar and ordered two beers. Later we swapped to the adjacent table as the sun was in our eyes. We were immediately then asked to pay the bill, before we'd finished our drinks.

This is our best site on a value for money basis at €23 per night and whilst it hasn't got a pool you get a wrist band to get you into the municipal pool free. However typical of the council, it has 4 lifeguards, 2 office staff and closes at 6pm 😆 The toilets are brilliant no urinals, no gents, no ladies and loads of showers, motorhome service areas, ehu and number plate recognition and there is a bar/restaurant onsite serving good food at reasonable prices. Oh and there's an aire de camp next door for free 😆 Camping municipal de l'île d'Or 4 All. des Mariniers, 37400 Amboise, France

A very convenient site within walking distance of the two chateau at Amboise. It was exceptionally hot during our stay so we were grateful for our shady plot. Mixed sex shower blocks which were modern but not super clean. No toilet paper. Nice cafe on site with bread ordering. Good level of English spoken by staff. The swimming pool is only open from 29th June to the end of August.

We visited in October and would recommend this camp site. What a fabulous location on an island in the middle of the Loire river. Large campsite with excellent indoor sanitary facilities which were warm and very clean. Super walking track around the island that has two good restaurants on it. We really enjoyed the Tapas restaurant overlooking the river and Castle. Short walk to the town centre across the bridge to visit the amazing town of Amboise. Easy to book online. Very reasonable price.

Stayed here for 3 nights on our motorhome trip through France. Great site - couldn't book on the same day, so just had to turn up and hope they had a pitch - they have 280 pitches but every day, almost all of them were filled each day. Easy walk into Amboise old town which is beautiful. The Velo-a-Loire cycle route can be joined just outside of the campsite and we cycled for miles on beautiful cycle paths and through vineyards and villages - all mapped and mostly traffic-free. Lovely spacious pitches. The sanitary blocks were perfectly clean (no toilet seats or paper which is standard for Municipal sites), and we have no complaints about their cleanliness. Would recommend this site both for the site itself, and the location and ease of getting into town and along the river.

Great location in terms of getting to and from Amboise. The site itself, at the start of Sept, had less to offer with the pool being closed. For the price, pitches are OK, nothing separating one pitch from another so no privacy. We had cold showers the one time we used them. No soap in any of the soap dispensers.

A nice site with a very friendly welcome at reception. The location to the town and the historic attractions were excellent. All very spacious pitches. There were plenty of toilet/shower facilities however the campsite is huge so these were very busy. They could have been cleaner and you need your own loo roll. There are lots of restaurants and shops just a short walk away. A nice stop over for a night or two.

The good points, great location, short walk to the castle and town centre. Good size grass pitches with ehu and water close by. Not quite so good, quite expensive 28 euros in September for 2 adults and a dog. The sanitary facilities aren't the best. No toilet seats or paper ( although this is standard for a municipal site) the water in the showers is quite variable and the configuration means it flows beyond the cubicle and gets quite wet. I would return because of the location. We didn't get a chance to explore because it was 33 degrees one day and the next we had thunder and rain.
