I recently spent a week at Camping Park Umag, and overall it was a mix of highs and lows — I had good moments, but also some frustrations. Here’s my honest take, as someone travelling with family.
What I Loved
Sea & Location: The campsite is right on the sea, which is amazing. Waking up, going down to the water, the views — especially at sunrise — are a real treat. There are some lovely rocky shore bits and nice spots for snorkeling.
Great for Kids & Families: There are tons of things for children to do. Pools, clubs, evening shows — my niece was especially excited about the animation team. Moments like seeing her rush off happily to a kids’ club were special.
Staff Who Care (Sometimes): Not everyone, but when you catch the good ones, they make a difference. For instance, one of the animators (Simona) spoke Italian and really made my niece feel at ease; the help from Milijana when fixing my booking dates was also much appreciated. That kind of kindness matters.
Facilities & Variety: There is a lot here — shops, restaurants, multiple pools, space to walk, quiet spots if you move a little off the busy areas. The glamping tents are comfortable, and for the most part, places are clean enough (though I’ll get to the “enough” in a minute).
What Didn’t Work So Well
Size & Walking: The campsite is huge. If your pitch or glamping tent is far from amenities, expect a lot of walking — to the beach, to the restaurant, to the showers. If you’re travelling with small kids or older people, distance becomes a factor.
Cleanliness & Maintenance Lapses: Some areas feel a bit worn. We had issues with cleanliness in certain mobile homes / tents (curtains, bedding), and some sanitary blocks were old or not neatly kept. Also, small things like replacing a broken fixture didn’t happen fast.
Noise & Crowds: In high season especially, pools are crowded, noise can carry (bars, music, etc.). One night I couldn’t sleep early because a nearby bar played loud music late. If you want peaceful nights, you might struggle.
Price Vs What You Get: Some extras felt steep — restaurants on site, the supermarket, “extras” that aren’t included (WiFi quality, certain services). Sometimes it felt like you pay for the location more than for flawless service.
Staff Inconsistencies: Most people are nice, but sometimes we hit rough patches — unhelpful receptionists, delays in resolving issues. It makes the difference: kindness smooths over small problems, but when everyone is busy or inattentive, small annoyances add up.
Would I Go Back?
Yes — but with some adjustments.
If I were to stay there again, I’d try to:
Book a spot as close as possible to key amenities (sea, restaurants, pools) so I don’t spend my holiday walking more than relaxing.
Go slightly off‑peak to avoid the fullest crowds and loudest nights.
Bring earplugs just in case, and maybe some supplies (if things in the campsite are expensive).
Expect that not everything will be perfect — but hope that the good parts (location, people, sea) will outweigh the issues.
Final Verdict
Camping Park Umag has a lot of charm: its seaside location, variety of facilities, and moments of real friendliness. If you're okay trading off some crowdedness, occasional service hiccups, and paying a bit more for convenience, it offers a pretty good camping holiday. It won’t feel like a boutique escape, but it can give those “vacation moments” that stick with you: kids laughing in a pool at sunset, jumping in the sea early in the morning, that kind of stuff.
If you want, I can write a short “would I recommend for couples / families / solo travellers” version — might be useful depending on who’s going.
