We tremendously enjoyed our 4 day stay at Camping Sous Roche. We saw some of the comments here about the grumpy site manager - let me ask you: what is a French camping without a grumpy Frenchman refusing to speak anything other than his own language? The camping is situated between rocks - as the name suggests - a short walk over them leads you to Avallon (in 20 minutes). Nice wine bars, restaurants and a beautiful view. The wider region is perfect for hiking, visiting old towns and tasting the best wines and cheese. The campsite is need, showers and toilets are fine, fridge available to cool your errands, swimming pool is clean.

Beautiful campsite, one of the nicest I have seen, surrounded by trees and two large rocks, nice hot showers included in price, ok clean toilets. Staff professional but not super-happy it seems, headed by a man with the all too well-known spirit of an old-school headmaster or life guard at a public swimming pool; we are all doing it wrong, visitors included, and he doesn’t have the patience for it. There’s a small pool but it is only open from 11-19. I missed being able to get good French coffee but you can order fresh bread, there’s a small grocery store and a slightly air conditioned room with a fridge and a drinks machine. Despite the few drawbacks, I give it top rating because of the grounds, the showers, general cleanliness, and the location near the exquisite big village / small town Avallon with many nice restaurants and old streets. It’s a steep but pretty 20-25 minutes walk up there if you don’t go by car.

Nice campsite with good facilities, warm showers, sheltered "lounge" room and areas in case it rains. The old man who I presume is the owner of the campsite that received us on the other hand, was unpleasant and seemed like he hates his life. We were worried about pitching tents in the heavy rain as there might be flash floods since we are close to the river, so we asked if its possible if we upgraded to actual rooms with a fee top up of course. Without consideration, he said no because he already wrote a receipt and it was impossible for him to undo it. Its a written receipt and we haven't even paid yet. Shame for such a beautiful campsite to have someone so sad running it.

Stayed 4 days mid june 2025. Clean facilities, quiet, small swimming pool, 2 helpfull young people at the receiption (closed from about 11:30-11:45 to 15:00), all at a friendly price. 20 minuts walk from the center (zoom in on google maps to find 3 ways) but via a steep path and/or steps. Bread service and some very basic groceries. Many dutch people.

Really nice campsite, very well run by two young people, who were very helpful. Nice, clean facilities, and a beautiful, tranquil location 10 minutes walk from the town.

Really nice municipal site. Good set up for campervans with an easy to use service point. Good sized pitches with a range of shady and non shady pitches so make sure to choose which you prefer. Facilities were clean and plentiful if a little dated (fine by us but useful to know if it’s not your thing). Small, warm pool which the kids enjoyed. Small shop with fresh bread to order in the mornings. Laundry, WiFi and coffee machine were all welcome. Card machine wasn’t working when we went so do take cash - we had to drive to town to get cash when we were leaving which put us 45 minutes behind schedule to meet our train! Very inconvenient but I understand that card machines can be temperamental- maybe offer payment by bank transfer in this instance? It’s about a 1 mile walk to town - about half an hour as it’s a steep, hilly country walk. We enjoyed this but not suitable for everyone. Overall, a lovely stay, thank you!
