Before I lived in the area, I used to get catalogs from Campmor. It's a place I was always interested in visiting.
Now, I live only about 30ish minutes away, so we decided to take a drive over to Paramus and check this place out.
This place is pretty rad. It's not much to look at from the outside at first, a bit shabby. The inside is a warren. One direction is camping gear, another direction is clothing, and a third direction is cycling. We spent a lot of time just wandering around the store, checking out all the stuff. And there's a lot. They've got more stock than REI, EMS, and MEC (Canadian version of REI.) If there's a place that has a stock level that is similar, it's probably the Canadian chain SAIL.
There are rows and rows of tents, shelves of books and maps, which is one of my favorite things to browse at camping stores. One of the really nice things with the maps is they had a place to browse the maps, mounted like posters, so it was easy to see what is on a particular map.
The employees are really friendly and almost too aggressively helpful, and very knowledgeable. The prices, especially if they are having sales, rival Amazon. If I had anything to complain about, it is their cycling section. The shop looked fine, but the overall selection was only ok. I think that overall though, if you're a fan of camping gear, this is a place you need to stop at if you're in the area.
