On the Grid : Can Framis

"Can Framis is the latest project of the prestigious Fundació Vila Casas, founded by Antoni Vila Casas, owner of one of the largest private art collections in Catalonia. This space is dedicated to promoting the work of some of the most famous contemporary Catalan artists. The project had the objective of rehabilitating old factory buildings and creating a space of contrasts: here you will find lime mortar that blends with the existing stonework and merges with the exposed concrete of the new buildings. The combination of elements creates an open, aery space of architectural and cultural interest. They also offer an educational program to bring children of all ages closer to contemporary art." - Little Buddha

We had a pleasant al fresco dining experience at Can Framis by Casa Lolea last weekend. As it was a beautiful, sunny day, we settled at a table under the dappled shade provided by leafy trees overhead. To start, we enjoyed a refreshing bottle of their fruity sangria, perfectly complementing the warm weather. Among the array of tapas we ordered, the standout was definitely the ceviche, featuring fresh meagre fish, cooked in lime juice, complemented by thin slivers of onion and herbs, and attractively served with long, crunchy slivers of fried plantain and crunchy bibb lettuce. It was a truly exceptional dish that would earn a 5-star rating on its own! Another highlight was the truffle risotto, which my companion loved for its rich truffle flavor and smooth orzo. Although not to my personal taste, I appreciated the savory notes it offered. The mini matured beef burger with chipotle and caramelized onions was another hit, satisfying and delicious. A couple of the tapas fell short of expectations. The brie cheese, roasted apple, sundried tomato, and basil were served on toasted bread. However, the roasted apple was a compote that was smeared too thickly on the bread. It resulted in making the toast soggy and overpowering the advertised trio of flavors. We both scraped off the applesauce, but the damage was already done, so we simply skewered a small piece of brie with the tomato and basil for one bite, and abandoned the soggy bread. The other disappointing tapa was the portobello with smoked prawns and aioli. Again, the topping made the toasted bread soggy. We again just forked the smoked prawn and portobello and abandoned the soggy toast. Although a couple of the tapas dishes disappointed us, overall, we enjoyed a pleasant dining experience. The service at Can Framis was excellent, with servers being polite and efficient. Despite their suggestion to order more items than we did, we found our selections to be more than satisfactory. Our dining experience, though mixed in terms of food quality, was still enjoyable, thanks to the pleasant atmosphere and attentive service at Can Framis by Casa Lolea.

This is the second Spanish meal that we had in Barcelona, and I'd say it's much better than the first one. Both of us enjoy the beef Tata and the pasta risotto. Both the taste and the food appearance are amazing, which make me become more interested to try more tapas in the next few days. I surely will come again when I travel back to Barcelona in the future

We came here for lunch so it was a bit quieter - I am sure the evenings it’ll be buzzing here. The food overall was great - I found their version of Patatas Bravas quite interesting using new potatoes which was a lovely surprise. Sauce was a little on the sweeter side. The burrata salad was lovely, and we also enjoyed the chocolate dessert with olive oil and salt which was delectable. The salmon was so-so, wasn’t a bit fan of the blini and the yoghurt sauce could have added a bit more. But I’d still recommend the place as it was a great little spot to have a meal.

The staff is lovely, so warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is nice. I tried 3 of the small plates since it was just me and they were all so good. I tried a mini hamburger, brie cheese with apple and portobello mushrooms with shrimp. All good and small portions. Definitely will come back.

We passed by this restaurant when we strolled around looking for tapas. It is a small restaurant, but such nice décor and atmosphere, so we had to stop there and did not regret it! 😉 The tapas were just great and staff very friendly. We also tried the red Lolea Sangria and we loved it, was a perfect dinner. Some portions are good to share and others rather a single portion, but we just wanted to try several things and it was just right. Very nice place!!!

Nice spot for good tapas with a creative flair. It is pretty expensive for what is offered and the portion sizes. We live in the city and it is more expensive than we usually pay, but admittedly we rarely dine in this neighborhood. Service is very friendly and you can make reservations, which is a plus especially on weekends. They are also open throughout the afternoon. We had to get to an event by 7:00, so it was great to get an early dinner reservation.

Great food & atmosphere the staff were super friendly and helpful. The mushroom risotto was out of this world so delicious. As well as all the tapas we had, which were the anchovies and the red peppers stuffed with cod -OMG But seriously you cannot leave this restaurant without trying the mushroom risotto!! Sorry but we demolished the food so fast we forgot to take photos.
