Great view, nice hosts, fair price, low season is a best for staying

We were going to stay in Olot, but when we got there, we didn't like it. Well, that turned out to be serendipitous. We went to Santa Pau, found Can Mencio, and absolutely loved it! If I could I would give the location 10 stars! Santa Pau is a treasure, and our balcony overlooked the medieval square - just what we hoped for when we decided to go to this part of Catalonia. The room and private bath were small, but clean and with a comfortable bed. It was up three flights of stairs, however. There was a nice room to lounge in on the floor below, which opened to a deck with views out the back of the village. In the morning, the coffee and croissants at the little café were excellent. In the evening, the local artisan beer was very good (and only 2 Euros). Conversation was difficult. One guy only spoke Catalan (note: the locals do not consider themselves Spaniards!) Others spoke a little Spanish or English, but they were very friendly and accommodating. Santa Pau was the highlight of our trip!

Clean and perfectly okay, but closer to a hostel than other places we stayed that were also called hostels. The bathroom was quite basic and the room small. The view and balcony over the delightfully quaint square was lovely. The owners couldn't speak English, understandable enough, and, let's face it, we can't speak Catalonian, but somehow everything we said (even with the help of Google translate) puzzled them and made us feel like we weren't expected or that we were asking for something odd. There was no breakfast with the room, but you could eat at the bar/patisserie downstairs though the lack of a menu was a challenge.

The room was clean and the hotel is really well located at the heart of Santa Pau, right in the middle of the main place. The staff was really welcoming. Although our room was not available before 4, we were able to leave our bags and get some rest in the main area/living room. They also offer delicious sandwiches with ham and cheese.||||Really good value, I definitely recommend this place, especially to get some rest after a day of walking around the volcanoes in the region!

I have always held back from booking a stay at a hostel. In this case, I was pleasantly surprised! It is on a medieval square, offers comfortable bedding with adequate heating, a private shower room. Everything is perfectly clean. Also has good WIFI. Very convenient coffee shop with a large selection of cakes and sweets/bar/store at the reception.||||No problem with parking.||||Don't expect anything grand but it is perfect if you have an early morning hot air balloon flight.

It is a little charm hostel on the heart of medieval town of Santa Pau. The location is great, but rooms are a bit small and the walls are not very thick.||||Ideal if you plan to hike and/or visit volcanic zone, but do not expect a luxury hotel.

A cute place with tables on the Placa Major, run by the family owners. Don't expect fine dining or big city service, it's local, so enjoy the authenticity.||A good selection of home made liquors is something to try. The beer on tap is tasty, for a refreshment.

They have five tables outside in very cozy gallery with arches, boot vermouth, well-served beers. Could be better to have a vermut than to have breakfast. It's very well located in order to visit la Garrotxa and volcanoes.
