Not only was the food exceptionally delicious, but the quality of the fish and variety really made this place stand out 😍 The staff were beyond friendly, and super welcoming. Cleanliness can be felt everywhere, especially the bathroom. Their Sake comes in the cutest little packaging and their green iced tea is exactly what I needed after this hot day. We had a wonderful experience at Canaan Sushi last night. Being located just a minute's walk away from DoubleTree by Hilton hotel was incredibly convenient for our two families. The restaurant might be compact, but it's clean, and the staff were exceptionally nice and friendly. The food was a true delight - everything we ordered was delicious, and the fresh vegetables and delightful sauces added that extra touch. The kids were particularly thrilled with their sushi and noodles selections. The happy hour offers for beers and fried chicken balls were a great addition, making our dinner not only enjoyable but also affordable, especially after a day of walking and sightseeing around Manhattan in New York. If we ever stay at the same hotel again, we'll definitely return to Canaan Sushi for another amazing dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delightful and nearby restaurant option!

This was the worst sushi I've had that wasn't in a supermarket. The rice on all rolls was nearing crunchy, the flavors of the fish itself were bland, and the rest of the experience was no good either. They gave me hot tea in a big glass pint glass which was too hot to pick up and then too sweet to drink once it cooled down. I got no place to put my soy sauce until late into the meal. There is a reason it was so easy to get a seat here versus many nearby restaurants. Stay away.

We had the chicken mushroom and steak garlic bento boxes,$13. The dumplings were delicious! The miso soup was good too. If I lived here I would be a regular.

First time visitor, staying at a nearby hotel. Their menu has a lot of fantastic sounding options. We ordered an assortment of rolls as well as sushi pizza and hot honey lemon tea. It was all delicious! I loved the presentation of the sushi pizza! It looks like a pizza! The staff is very nice and they had everything ready so quickly and the pricing was great!

This place was very good. The food was fresh and delicious and servers where friendly. It was very busy here. We sat at the counter area. The price of the meal was very reasonable. We choose the $20 combo that include soup or salad and three different rolls. Each roll had six pieces.

Great neighborhood sushi place! I love the typical decor. It reads run of the mill Japanese restaurant. Sort of like am all american diner would. Im always impressed by how Japanese food is presented. Beautiful big plates. Nothing to complain about here.

This is one of those secret neighborhood sushi spots that seems to fly under the radar. But it is worth a visit. It's a small spot with a few tables and seats at the sushi bar. Service was friendly and fast. We opted for a lunch special with three sushi rolls plus a few extras. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back.

They just took all my favourites off the menu! The calamari tempura, the oyster tempura, the lobster salad rolls. WTF! I've been ordering for YEARS! Please brings those back and I will update my review.

Nothing to write home about. Decent service and edible rolls. I ordered the 2 roll lunch special and a glass of wine. The spicy salmon roll was actually pretty good while the tuna roll was old and poorly made.

When I first came here several years ago, pre-pandemic, the experience was very underwhelming. However, it was through the mealpal app that led me to try out this place. In hindsight, I now do not think it is fair to rate this place unfairly, given the circumstances. The reason why this is being brought up is because of the possibility that these 3rd party companies may have watered down not only the assigned meal for the day in terms of quality/quantity, but also for experience, as well. When I visited here years ago because of the app, and went to pick up the lunch, I vowed never to come back again. Anyways, fast forward to post-pandemic (sort of) era, and I decided to give this place another try. Obviously, the 3rd party app is not in the picture, haha! BUT WHAT AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE, goodness gracious. Service was excellent, and the food - do not get me started on that yet! There were customers waiting for their ordered lunch, some indoor patrons, and the uber/postmates activity was pretty happening, too. This was all during the lunch hour. The menu also looked endless, and the lunch specials seemed very decent in their offerings. Reminder that the 3rd party app, at the time, did not provide these opportunities to see the full picture. Now, with all this exciting stuff coming out into play, this was really worth a Yelp! review. The place is very tidy, and looked like they provided generous sanitizers. Everyone was also careful while during the waiting time, to give each other the distance. The narrow walkway is probably a bit tight, but everyone seemed very respectful during the busy time... and the ones going in and out the most were the ubereats, and the likes. It is nice to see a lot of activity in this type of small business. Onto the main attraction - the bento box!!! HOLYYYYY SMOKES! For the lunch special price, the bento box was kind of assorted, possibly the most assorted bento box I have ever came across. It reminds me of the tapas option. In terms of the box itself, it proportioned out to: shumai dumplings, the seaweed salad, cali rolls, edamame, ginger slices, and the main entree of your choice that came with another side of broccoli. I was astonished to see the layout and the items offered. BUT WAIT! There's more! Onto to the side is a small bowl of covered rice, a box of side salad with ginger dressing AND a miso soup. Plus my main choice of the chicken had generous portions.(Please note, the photos on the gallery do not look updated. My lunch version came out to be like a grand masterpiece! So do not rely on those photos with an older date as a basis of the 2022 food results {at least for the bento box lunch special} Use my photo as a guide.). Was veryyy astonished to see the layout of all different items that came together, in one lunch package. Subsequently, the next fews time I was able to try the chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki and the lemon chicken. And.. yes, there will be plans for trying out manyyy other dishes. This is really a solid lunch spot, and that explains the # of customers going back for more. Therefore, this place is getting a whoppin' 10 stars, for the lunch special galore! (Also for the realization that sometimes those lunch apps sucks!)

Our Church has a hymn and one of the verses goes "To Canaans land I'm on my way.. " Unfortunately, this Canaan will not bring you to the promised land and should be avoided unless you like being disappointed. The place is small and service was Ok, the food however is the problem. The Sushi/Sashimi combo platter and sushi hand roll was small and the quality, taste and freshness of the fish was mediocre. My son specifically wanted salmon and California rolls which they obliged and the only thing memorable here was leaving. I also ordered a bowl of house made pork ramen. The pork was nothing special, but the real sin here is trying to pass off ramen whick looked and tasted to me like a pack of instant 3 minute ramen.

Best thing about this place is that you can order online for pickup (I wouldn't trust delivery services) and they'll actually let you sit down and eat there when you come, if you wish. Saves the hassle of waiting for the server to come give you a menu, then bring you the check, return your credit card, etc. The food is so-so, reasonable pricing for the area...don't expect anything that'll knock your socks off. But decent enough to order from in a pinch. Their poke bowls are pretty decent, though the miso soup it comes with is rather weak (is miso expensive in NYC or something???).

Best sushi in the city! I don't know why the scores are low but I order here atleast twice a week. Sushi Is always fresh, flavorful and great price! The spicy mayo would make you want to snack ya mama!

Decent sushi, nothing too exciting but nothing bad too. Good service. Large selections of sushi. Overall, a good sushi place. Sufficient for when you're craving for sushi.

Ordered from here a few times and they have consistent sushi for a good price. Also it's always ready super fast and the staff always gives a warm welcome!

Sushi with hidden treats! What an utter disgust. Avoid at all cost if you'd like to keep your teeth! Working late and decided to pick up a few rolls to go. Go back to the office to eat and within the first few bites I find myself chewing on a fish scale in my Broadway Roll... Its raw fish, fine I get it. They just did a bad job cleaning the fish. But here's the kicker. Half way through my Salmon Lover Roll as I was chewing CRUNNNNNCHHHH. Like holy hell that hurt my tooth. Spat out whatever the foreign object was to reveal a pebble hidden with the rice. LIKE WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT. They literally meant "crunchy" when the salmon lover roll came with crunch.

The food is always fresh! The staff is ver nice. Great customer service. I ordered my food for pick up and it was ready when I got there. Didn't have to wait at all. Highly recommend!

Tuna and avocado and shrimp tempura lunch special. Not sure where the random beat up piece came from but it looks VERY different from the rest. Smallest sushi rolls ever and the woman wouldn't even hand me my card back. Pet peeve of mine for customer service if I hand you my card you hand it back. Anyway not eating from here again. Too many options for people to not care how they treat each customer.

Middle of the road sushi place in Chelsea. Been here a few times for sushi and their fried rice on MealPal, and it's honestly fine. It's a good switch up for the usually salad and sandwich places littered through this section of midtown. The service is fast whenever I've been their and the pineapple chicken fried rice is actually pretty good. Wish the portions were a little bigger, but satisfying all the same. The sushi is good and I'd have to come back here not on a fast lunch to give this place a more accurate rating, but generally, this is a fine place.

Ordered medium rare for my beef, got it well done, again!!!!!! This is not the first time they did that, it seems like their chef doesn't know to make the beef right. Luckily they gave me a little thing to make it up, a staple!!!!! Good job!!!!

I love this place! I love that Rick remembers when I come here and knows that order I like. It is a small place but I love my Dragon Roll and the spicy crunchy roll. The plum wine isn't bad either

Staying in the neighborhood for work. My hotel sent me here and I'm glad they did. I had Beef negimaki, a spicy salmon roll, and a lobster tempura roll. All were great. The tempura could have been a bit crispier, but all the flavors were on point.

I've only been to A Canaan once and ordered a lunch bento box to go. The place was bustling, with a full house of customers as well as plenty of to-go orders including seamless and mealpass orders. My box included a small salad, miso soup, rice, California roll, edamame, seaweed salad, shumai and 4 large shrimp tempura - all for $10! The value is a steal and I'll be back to try more.

This is our go to sushi place for ordering in. Sushi is pretty good for what you pay. Quality is consistent. Quantity is good. The sizes of the sashimis are good. Fish is fresh. We ordered the party tray recently. It came in 30 minutes. Everyone was quite satisfied and content with the food.

Very happy with the delivery from this place! They have become my go-to for my sushi fix during quarantine and you can't go wrong as everything I've ordered so far has been delicious. My favorite though has to be the shrimp tempura rolls. :D

I've rarely met a bento box I didn't like. And while my tonkatsu was delicious I cannot say the same for the rest of the items that accompanied it. The California roll tasted like bananas, literally. It really threw me off. The shumai was soggy and not served hot. I'd get the tonkatsu again but likely skip the box.

Cool spot with good lunch specials. The place is kind of cramped so I recommend hitting it up right before or after the lunch rush. I think i found my sushi spot by the office. Word!

Not Bad. Ordered a California & Dragon roll. Service is fast. I feel like it could be cheaper. I however would still recommend to friend if working near Penn Station.

Ordered some take out last week when I was in town for work. Got the Spicy Tuna Wrap and a side of pork dumplings. Food tasted great and was ready within 15 mins from ordering.

We had to settle on this place since we were getting ready to leave Manhattan to Bethesda. I ordered the lemon-garlic chicken with mushrooms; this was an absolute insult to any "asian" restaurant. An infant could have cooked this to the same level. The chicken was terribly dry and not seasoned. The "sauce" was a watery disgrace. I hope the chef takes some pride in himself to make the dishes he served a little greater than sub-standard. Again, what a pathetic meal.

From my tips: It still amazes me when people buy sushi from places which have waitresses/chefs who speak mandarin. Oddly the green tea was good (was matcha) and the oyakodon while nontraditional (due to the egg being big pieces and not being mixed in, the soy not being super sweet, no pickles, etc.) was actually good and well portioned

Pretty busy during lunch, better to order for pickup or delivery. Never eat in so not sure of their service. I like it because it's fast when I order online, and the food is decent with this kind of price (lunch special). If you want really good food, go find some place more expensive. I usually get their bento box lunch, their salmon with garlic and the beef with red wine are my favorite. Their Katsu don was not that good. I had their teriyaki bento couple of times, but the meat is usually a little hard. But I'm giving them 4 stars because I'm eating with a budget and I think that their food is good especially with their price in this area.

I love this place! Not the highest quality sushi but an outstanding value. It's clean but doesn't appear so bc it's old and dark. Lunch is fast, fresh and inexpensive with nice service.

Their Bento Boxes are a bargain, although it would have been a better bargain during lunch time since I came here for dinner today. I ordered the bento box that came with chicken and mushrooms in lemon garlic sauce while my friend ordered the bento box with their sashimi special. If I had to come here again, I would definitely pick the sashimi special. The chicken was kinda dry so I would avoid that. They deliver! You know that is a plus. They give you so much for the bento box including green tea, a house salad, the rice, the maki rolls, the california rolls, the chicken with mushrooms (the main entree), and seaweed salad. I was so full after eating all that. The tea was especially great considering it was freezing outside. The workers were particularly friendly and accomodating.

It's nothing great and nothing horrible - it's "A-OK". If you're looking for a quick bite and some decent sushi at decent prices, this isn't a bad choice. Deciding to go here since it was super close to the hotel and had decent reviews, I wasn't disappointed. When we entered at around 8pm on a Sunday night, the restaurant was empty... at first I was a bit hesitant, but after sitting down and ordering, I began to notice that it seemed like most (or a lot) of their business went to take out. They had delivery guys coming in and out the whole time we were eating. We ordered 3 rolls as well as the tuna tataki - just about everything was had was very good. The prices of the rolls range from about $7 to $13 I think - which is expected. I had the rainbow roll as well as the crunch roll, both good. The bill came to somewhere between $40 and $50 including tip - not bad for sushi for 2!

I've been coming to A Canaan nearly once a week for 2 years as they're so conveniently located by my office and - most importantly - their food is delicious. Their establishment is clean (especially compared to some of the other local joints) which is really important to me if I'm consuming raw fish. It's a small place, so know they really fill up around 1 pm. 12 pm seems to be the perfect time to go! The staff are attentive and friendly, even when busy. I usually get the Salmon-Don lunch special, which is a great deal! Salmon slices, rice, soup/salad, and some extra garnishments. I, along with my coworkers, have tried many of their other dishes as well though. On a cold day I LOVE their Don Buri or KatsuDon. My coworkers frequently buy their 3 Rolls for $12 special, and love to reorder the Tuna Avocado, Yellowtail Scallion, and Spicy Tuna Crunch rolls. Sometimes we treat ourselves to the cloudy Nigori sake. Good stuff. I've done both takeout and eat-in. Sometimes I find a little treat of some Edamame too. I love this place. :)

I just had an amazing chicken katsu bento box and I want the world to know. Great portions of chicken, shunai, California roll, soup AND salad, ginger (the more the better), and edamame. Katsu was perfectly cooked. Herald Square can be a bit of a food desert, so drop the Pret and eat this instead.

Excellent sushi, perfect location and fast service! The sushi was excellent, I ordered the shiitake mushroom and sweet potato tempura roll. It was delicious! I actually ordered the lunch special (2 rolls and choice of salad or soup). Definitely will go back again, especially since it's right next door to my job...OH HAPPY DAY ^--^

Ordered the nasu miso, duck teriyaki, and white fish katsu bento box. When I entered, it was busy. By the time I left, it was empty. The nasu miso consists of four slices of eggplant grilled with miso on top of veggies. It was quite hot when I start eating it. The duck teriyaki consists of slice of duck and mushrooms in teriyaki sauce. It was my first time eating duck broiled in teriyaki sauce. The bento box consists of three pieces of shumai, six pieces of sushi, seaweed salad, and salad with dressing, similar to the other inauthentic Japanese restaurants. While I was enjoying my lunch, the waiters was putting another party's leftover sushi to go. They were trying to put the sushi and decoration carefully to the dishes so that the takeout can be visually appealing.

I got shrimp that has already gone bad. I have been ordering Bento box from this place for the past 2 or 3 years. I kinda like salmon teriyaki and shrimp Asparagus teriyaki Bento. But today, I got my shrimp Asparagus Bento box and the shrimp has already gone bad. This is crazy! I called them and the the only answer I got is that because I dont like the shrimp. I was shocked and speechless. I probably ordered 100 time from this place either myself or with my colleagues in the past 3 years. One of the reasons I kept coming back is the shrimp asparagus teriyaki. And now this place just figured out that I dont like shrimp!! I still cant believe this actually happened. Man!

Placed a lunch order for pickup via seamless. I was surprised seamless told me my order would be ready in 10-20 minutes at the height of lunch hour... less surprised when I arrived after 20 minutes and then had to wait another 10. But that's just sour grapes considering they substituted brown rice at no charge, even though it's not an option on their seamless page. They also threw in a complimentary side of edamame (free w/ order of $30+) even though my order was under $30. So far so good. As for the sushi... I ordered the sashimi & roll lunch combo w/ lobster salad & alaskan rolls and yellowtail & king salmon sushi. The lobster salad was an artificial orange color but each piece of the roll contained a sizeable chunk of actual meat. Salmon and yellowtail was fresh. And all of that plus brown rice and edamame for $12.50 + tax is a sweet deal. When you're biggest complaint is that your free edamame appetizer filled you up too much enjoy all your sushi, that's a winner in my book. A final note: despite being practically across the street from Penn Station, most of the lunch-hour diners here were businessmen and women not tourists. That's nice too.

This was my first time ordering takeout from A Canaan. The fish tastes incredibly fresh and it was quick and easy to pick up. The staff was friendly. They even threw in a free spicy cucumber salad with my order. Would recommend!

So this is my first review but I had to sign up on Yelp just to write this. I decided to order from this restaurant after work because I've been craving sushi for a few days. I ordered the American Dream and it was pretty good. I mean, it wasn't amazing, but I hadn't been expecting an amazing experience in the first place. Also, I'm not a picky eater by any means and I have a weakness for spicy tuna and eel, so I was actually pleasantly surprised and was telling myself to plan on getting sushi from here again. I had also ordered green tea Mochi ice cream but when I opened the container, it was green tea ice cream, which is a dollar cheaper and I had really been looking forward to mochi all day...but whatever. It's still ice cream, right? Not worth calling the store and demanding a they come back and send me some mochi ice cream or anything like that. Plus - man, was I hungry. So I was done with my meal and happily digging into my ice cream when I noticed a piece of ice. Ok, you say, sometimes ice cream has some ice in it, nothing to complain about. Again, I'll live. Then I noticed a little black line in the middle of the ice and, dreading what I'd see, I pulled the piece of ice out with my spoon. Sure enough, a thick, curly, black hair maybe half an inch long poked out. A pube. Now I'm not saying this is a regular occurence, I'm not saying that if you go there and order green tea ice cream, there will be a pube in the bowl. All I am saying is I am definitely not ordering from here again and I am telling everyone I know my story. But to end this story on a more positive note, if I had simply gotten my mochi ice cream in the first place, I would probably not be totally grossed out right now and writing this review and I would not have melting ice cream and a pube in my trash can.

its not anywhere I'd recomend to dine in or bring a date. Ive been in a few times for take out. Its just cramped and not decorated well. When Im working in the area on /off spuratically since 2008. I order. ITS CHEAP AND THEY HAVE GOOD SPECIALS. The past 2 times this year. The salad was soggy I threw it away once & another time gave it to a co worker. Seems like the quality of this place is and has gone down. My deliveries USED TO BE fresh with crunchy salads. Recently a co worker got poisoned and sick from the food

Great for lunch! You can get a bento box for $8.75 with shumai, salad, miso soup, rice, california roll and a main of your choice (tempura, sushi, sashimi.... Um? Amazing!

Really gross. None of the fish was in whole pieces, which made me skeptical of the quality of the fish they were buying, and taste only confirmed that this is low quality stuff at standard prices. Also whole ingredients seemed to be left out (cucumber and shiso sushi should presumably have shiso). Would never go back. Stay away.

There was A ROACH at the bottom of my chicken teriyaki. This place is garbage. I also heard the regular sushi is not the greatest. Do yourself a favor and sushi elsewhere.

Apparently the chef just left and the restaurant changed ownership food now sucks does anybody know where the chef went I miss the spicy mayo sauce unbelievable. Please message me

About the width and length of a sushi roll, this teensy sushi place wasn't half bad. My friend and I ate a great deal for relatively little, and despite slow service, we were treated kindly and with grace. Our waitress didn't even crack a smile when we ordered the Sexy Lady..how sophisticated! While the Sexy Lady was really good (the mango added a nice touch,) my allegiance went to the French Dynamite, a roll topped with a mayo-based sauce and filled with all manner of crab, avocado...you name it. Veggie rolls filled with peanuts and 'cado, along with mango and plus paste, countered the heaviness of the "chef's special rolls." I say, if you're in the neighborhood, why not? The fish is fresh, tasty, no more expensive than other sushi restaurants, and boasts what appears to be a steal of a lunch special.

Lots of menu there are! Usually I go there when lunch time, it is quite good. I can enjoy many kinds of dishes. But, I rarely can use my cell phone here. I don't know why, hard to capture signal.

I would definitely recommend ordering dinner from this place if you enjoy the following: 1. Waiting for 2 hours to get your delivery. 2. When you call back numerous times after waiting for 1 hour, having the restaurant not answer the phone. 3. When finally answering the phone they lie and say your order left "5 minutes ago" 4. When your food does finally arrive 2 hours late, what is supposed to be hot (Gyoza, shrimp dumplings) is cold, and what is supposed to be cold (Sashimi, rolls) is luke warm.... 5. Refusal to refund your money. ....
