It was a day's plan to make it to the summit of Mauna Kea, fulfilling a dream I've had for 48 years, ever since our first trip to the Big Island all those years ago. On June 7, 2017, the weather was perfect, and the trek up the mountain went smoothly. That Tom Benedict, one of the Instrumental Specialists, offered to show us around was simply icing on the cake! The telescope is gigantic (we knew that, of course), and seeing it "for real" was an impact. The views from the top were breathtaking, and our respect for those who work there, and the results they produce, has increased accordingly. Five stars isn't adequate to convey our appreciation for what those men and women atop that mountain do. Thanks go out to everyone!
