On the Grid : Canadian Centre for Architecture

"The Canadian Centre for Architecture is a national architectural hub, producing research, exhibitions and publications, while also providing unparalleled access to their library for research and academic purposes. The CCA is even more exceptional by virtue of its having been strategically built in order to incorporate the Shaughnessy House, thus saving it from demolition. Over 100 years separate the ornate Golden Square Mile home from the sleek concrete museum, making the CCA a time-travelling property (of sorts)." - Havas Montréal

"Phyllis Lambert may not be a household name, but she is a key figure in modern architecture in North America. An architect and philanthropist, she is also an heir to the Seagram fortune and responsible for getting Mies van der Rohe the commission to design the Seagram Building in New York, which remains one of that city's most important modernist structures. The Canadian Centre for Architecture is another of Lambert's legacies. Founded in 1979, it is housed in a 19th-century mansion and a more recent addition, designed by Peter Rose in conjunction with Lambert. The approximately 130,000 square feet of space include gallery spaces, lecture halls, a library, and a gift shop. Even if you are not a practicing architect, the temporary exhibitions are engaging and the shop includes not just tomes on architecture but also unusual gifts by local artists and designers."

I recently visited the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal, and it was an incredible experience! The museum is quite spacious, and it took us about an hour to tour the entire place. Every corner is beautifully designed and incredibly aesthetic, making the visit visually pleasing as well as educational. I discovered so much new information that I didn’t know before, which added to the charm of the experience. This is a must-visit spot for anyone interested in architecture or simply looking for an enriching outing. Highly recommend it as an educational and inspiring experience!

the main thing about this museum is the building itself, don't expect great exhibits or amazing artifacts because... well... believe it or not this museum is dedicated to the architecture, still there was a lot of information, beautiful library, very nice and modern spaces mixed with old facades. the gift shop has great books.

Ticket for adults is 10$ but i got the free one for student. Not too many things to see but compare to the price, it is OK. There is a exhibition that informative and some architecture models are amazing

Excellent visit with thought-provoking exhibits and a lovely bookstore! Unfortunately, the museum is not very large and can easily be fully appreciated in less than an hour...

We stopped by while visiting the city and on a snowy day. It was nice to be inside and we enjoyed exploring their current exhibits on photography, architecture, and the legal History of city planning and buildings. A very enjoyable experience, we explored for about 1 hour even though the museum is rather small.

Very nice experience. At the moment, they have a photograph exhibit upstairs and a documentary about Liban as well. Unfortunately, the winter garden is closed for renovation purposes but the rest of the place is incredible. Definitely worth a visit. Plus, free for kids and students! :)

Visited on the first Sunday of the month so it was free, it’s also free for students. I liked the exhibition they had, it was called « The Lives of Documents—Photography as Project ». They also have a library. Definitely recommend
