I had a great experience at this hotel. It is a cozy family-owned hotel and Eddy provided great service to us. He was very kind and helpful, and we loved talking to him! The location is great and I felt very safe (the door even has to be opened by a staff member or your own hotel key to get inside). I wouldn't say this place has resort-like amenities or luxury, but it's comfortable, affordable, and is a great spot to spend the night when you want to explore San Juan.

Horrible!!!!! I went with my friend. We found the hotel from our Southwest Airlines Perks. We went straight from the airport, to find the hotel closed. At 1am it was not cool to be stuck outside. So after calling the number over and over, finally we spoke with someone. They let us up into the room, and as soon as we tried to get settled. The floor was completely flooded due to the ac. The bed is literally next to the wall, blankets all soaked. They moved us to a different room on the 1st floor. We lost power and water. We had no services all day. Now they move us again cause the room was rented. We had to leave our things in the hallway by the stairs. Then with all apologies, they sent us to a sister hotel with no parking. We didnt enjoy any amenities as we kept moving with our bags.. Getting towels downstairs was like pulling teeth. The total cost for the was 430 for 3 nights . When we left and came back home , they charged my friend 935 dollars. We tried to contact the hotels, and they talking about they upgraded us.. we didnt ask, or was offered and upgrade. We booked the Canario because we wanted a pool and the amenities. We got Nothing.. The only thing that was positive was meeting Eddy. He was great. But this hotel completely ripped us off. Never again. Unacceptable.. Go elsewhere. Once you get home the charges conveniently go up.. Flooded rooms, no light or water, no pool amenities.

Had another reservation of mine fall through. Needed a last second reservation. The host was very accommodating and even was willing to match the rate of their sister's location to allow us from needing to take a 5 minute walk to get where we needed to get. Room was great, had AC. Cannot thank you all enough! This spot will be on my must stay list for any future trips I may take out to PR! EDIT: Checked out this morning and wasn't hit with random charges. Not sure where those reviews come from. Seems obvious if you follow the rules of the hotel you won't be hit with fees. Didn't break any rules therefore, I wasn't hit with any extra fees. Very easy checkout. I'll be back for sure!

The bed and room were comfortable and met my expectations; however, the service was extremely disappointing. To begin with, I had booked a different room online, but upon arrival, I was informed that all rooms, including the one I reserved, were fully booked. The only available room was Room 102, located at the very beginning of the hallway. The day before my departure, housekeeping entered the room without request and proceeded to clean, remove the trash, and replace towels, despite us having declined room service on previous days. During this process, a small brown paper bag containing jewelry I had purchased went missing. I immediately went to the front desk to report the issue, but the staff member told me I had no proof and suggested that I should have placed a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told to return the next day. I then requested a phone number or email to contact a manager directly, but the staff member repeatedly refused to provide this information. Throughout the entire interaction, he was disrespectful, lacked empathy, and offered no apology or solution regarding my missing items.

Google
10 minutes from the airport. We did a late check-in and the check-in process was seamless, the gentleman that took care of us even moved his personal vehicle to provide us with parking. The room needs a bit of TLC but for the price an the last minute booking it was perfect. The location was also great.

Google
This was the perfect stay!!! All the staff (especially Eddy and Cristina) were very sweet and helpful. It’s the best location with just a short walk to the beach and restaurants. If you want a luxurious stay in the middle of everything for the right price, this is the place!

Google
Please to your research and read the reviews. We stayed here cause my family had stayed years ago and it’s apparently they haven’t updated it since. The room was gross, we had no fridge or anything in our room. There was no DND sign so room service came in and all they did was remake the bed? No new sheets or towels. Only two outlets available in the room. You can hear everything outside in the hallway. It truly was janky to say the least. But hey if all you plan to do is sleep here then by all means go for it. The location is great if you plan to stay around condado but imo you can find better options for the same price. Also no parking so coming back every night to do laps around the block was a nightmare, be prepared to pay for parking or to circle around the block 50 times.

This really was a disappointment. Although this Trip Advisor website says there is a 24 hour front desk, that is not true. (Hotel did advise me of this in advance, to be fair.) It is small and family run I believe so employees hop around between different branches. As with many others, I was unlucky with the reservations roulette wheel and nobody was present when I arrived at night, so I had to call another branch and wait for them to come assist me.||As others have mentioned, the room was very dirty (there were actual dead insects on the bedding!) and I slept only one hour as I was so repulsed. Some loud chainsaws began at 8 AM sharp so I couldn't sleep in even if I wanted to. They are very rigid on checkout and do not permit late checkout unless you pay extra (the fact that I checked in late due to no staff present apparently doesn't mean anything) and the cantankerous man in the morning, Fioran I think, was banging on the door at 11:01 AM sharp. They are lackadaisical about getting you into your room when you attempt to check in, but fastidious about making sure you vacate exactly on time.||There were a couple of pluses: They do permit luggage storage in the common sitting area, but at your own risk, as anyone could have access to it. Also, there was one excellent employee, the main reason I am giving two stars instead of one. His name is Eddy (he was NOT the mean morning man) and he truly goes above and beyond to provide extra service and assist the tourists, fully bilingual. Unfortunately his hands are tied when it comes to aforementioned issues.||In conclusion, I cannot recommend this lodging. While the prices are commensurate with other lodging in the area (high), the quality is not.

Yelp
I decided to stay in canario inn because it was close to everything, and indeed it was. The room which I stayed in was cleaned, had an air conditioner, but nothing was working. I only stay here one night and I was not really in my room. I did noticed that the television and phone did not work..ok fine. The wifi was so weak, I ended up using my data. I stayed on the third floor and this place has no elevator. Someone at the front desk was kind enough to help me with my luggage. For parking you have to go to the marriot hotel and casino and pay twenty dollars for twenty-four hour ( there is no parking at condado). This was another nightmare, some of the cashiers knew about the deal between canario inn and some did not. I did not pay more than the twenty dollars. I suggest you should be firm about this because I was.

Yelp
I honestly feel like they might have some bed bugs here not a great experience and the rooms are not as clean as they appear to be very dusty and I was sneezing a lot and I was sneezing a lot. Bathroom very small and so is the shower you can barely turn around in the shower definitely need some renovating.

Yelp
The most uncomfortable and crappy hotel in San Juan. Not worth a penny!!! Stay away from this place

Yelp
I read all of the positive and negative reviews before booking. But booked this hotel because it was on budget and in a great area. I can handle a no-frills hotel that's a bit dated. But a FILTHY hotel that is falling down around me is a bit too much. At a minimum, make sure the floor is clean, the bathroom is devoid of hair, and the linens don't have stains. The rest most of us can deal with. It's all in the captions on the photos. But it was 30s walk to the beach, and there were restaurants and bars all around.

Yelp
Old fashioned hotel in the middle of a very trendy area. Great location close to the airport, beach and walking distance to the Placita. Superb front desk staff. Don't expect any room service, nor house keeping. These are very simple rooms just to sleep and shower. Must bring or buy soap toiletries, no hairdryer nor irons. Only one towel and try to keep it clean. The two sister hotels with pools are far away and definitely not worth going. The pools are tiny. For the price in the middle of every thing that is happening is well worth it.

Yelp
This hotel is in the Condado part of San Juan which is very touristy. Unlike most hotels a regular key is required to open your hotel door. It is a good place to stay if you need somewhere to lay your head and also be close to the beach. Located near shops and restaurants. Highly recommend if you are looking for something reasonable.

Yelp
I made a reservation for myself & my disabled veteran husband through booking.com a few weeks ago. The hotel assured me that our room would be an "Accessible King" & although there was not a refrigerator in the room, we could use the one in the lobby for husband's insulin. I provided my Visa number to secure the reservation, which was for the nights of March 4 through 9, 2022. We had tickets on United Airlines for a very early flight, 7:00 a.m. on March 4. When we got to the airport the flight was postponed to 9:00, then again to 12:30 p.m. If we had caught this flight we would have not reached San Juan until after 1:00 a.m. the next day, so we decided to go home for that one night. I called the hotel at 10:32 a.m. Eastern time to report the above, & to assure them that we would be there the next day. The person I spoke with apparently didn't write it down & didn't bother to tell their manager anything, because when we got there at around 6:00 p.m. March 5, they had given out the only "accessible" room, charged my card for the full five nights, AND written me up as a no-show!!! I threatened to call the police, if they thought my wheelchair-bound husband & I were going to sleep on the beach with all our luggage after they stole my money!! After some heated discussions with hotel personnel & a phone call with booking.com, we were given accommodations at another hotel under the same ownership. This other hotel was a $20 cab ride away & I should have asked the Canario to pick up the cab fare. Reading the other reviews of this place I'm very happy we didn't stay at the Canario. Actually I didn't see any of the rooms, just the lobby. There are too many steps there anyway for a person in a wheelchair to have to deal with.

Yelp
Sheets were dirty and walls are filthy-thought I was going to catch something. Asked for clean sheets and waited over an hour for the front desk to bring me clean sheets because the front desk decided to go on break and leave me waiting with 2 infants in the room. Horrible customer service. Never again. Doesn't even deserve a star. Oh and before I forget there is NO parking and good luck finding one on the street.

Yelp
terrific location (Condado, within walking distance to Old San Juan if you're ambitious like we were!), charming building with interior courtyards and incredibly comfortable beds! great AC. Don't expect the Four Seasons - expect very friendly staff and a very laid back atmosphere and you'll be thrilled.

Yelp
I came to San Juan on a busy weekend and needed a place to stay and a lot of the big resorts were full. Canario was this little hole in the wall hotel that was perfect for me. The room and bathroom was a bit smaller but since I was by myself it wasn't a problem (reminded me of most European hotels). The staff was very friendly and helpful with my stay. The location was perfect especially if you like walking around the town and seeing the beaches.

Yelp
This place is great if you want to plunge your own toilet, put you IT skills to work so you can use the TV and internet, or sharpen up your negation skills when the manager threatens you when you want to leave. We came here on our Honeymoon, and honestly, I'm not fancy, I would sleep on the beach, but the disrespect and fact I am still dealing with this hotel charging me 1,500 for a place we spent 1 hour in is pretty frustrating. There are so many of great options near San Juan, (especially the piano bar in Old San Juan) but I really recommend seeing other parts of the Island. Go explore, it's a beautiful place.

Yelp
They want 25/per hour if you want to do early check in according to Ms. Jennifer at the desk. Cancelled and they refused to refund me. Should remove the Boutique & Hotel from their name & change it to Canarios Scammers.

Yelp
Great location but nonexistent service. Never cleaned our room or changed the linens after 6 days, even though we nicely asked twice. Stay away. Horrible service. When I finally asked if I could change the sheets myself, I was told they could not find sheets to match to bed size. My partner borrowed a broom to sweep out the room. You can do better.

Yelp
What this hotel is going for it is location and price. An inexpensive room close to the beach in the midst of an active section of town is very convenient. What this place does not have is pretty much what you would expect from a hotel. A very small room, no room service, very limited amenities. All of which is fine, depending on what you are looking for.

Yelp
I reserved at Canario Boutique from July 17-19 then again July 22-24. The room I was given was 106. This room was not to up to par with COVID cleaning standards! There was dust on the ceiling fan, underneath the bed, on the headboard, on the end table legs. The room was so dusty that the person whom I shared the room with had an asthma episode. I reported this to the front desk to Eddy Caribe and I asked him to come to the room to check for himself. He came to the room with one of the maintenance workers. They inspected the room and agreed that it was dirty. He assured me that he would contact the janitorial supervisor. I told Eddy Caribe that I would be back on July 22 and he assured me that the room would be clean. Before arriving to the hotel on July 22nd, I called and I was told that the room I had was going to be 204 and that it had been cleaned. When i arrived at 9:30 pm. On July 22nd they assigned me room 206 which was dirty as well. I was told that my room which was cleaned had been given away. All rooms should be cleaned not just one room! Don't waste your money!

Yelp
My partner and I had the misfortune of staying at your hotel from October 1st  to October 4th in room number 102. During our stay, we encountered a number of unsatisfactory service levels that I think you should know of and hopefully do something about. First, it took more than an hour to check us in even though we had a confirmed reservation. Why it took so long is beyond my comprehension. Font desk staff Doralis was extremely rude, When we arrived at the hotel we walked a mile away to the hotel, we had our face mask inside our side packet of our luggage when we walk inside the hotel the first greeting from Doralis was " You too need to put your mask immediately" and I want to see your Covid vaccine and negative results. I ask her why the attitude, she replied I have no attitude why because I told you to put your mask on? I told her is not about the mask it's about the attitude she continue on and on talking and giving us extremely attitude, I felt like she was having a bad day and was taking her frustrations to us. The other front desk guy didn't have his mask but yes she was demanding for us to have it on. And I understand about the rules of the mask but she didn't have to be so rude when we walk in. I didn't sleep that night at all... All I had on my mind was of why Doralis was so rude, this was our second trip to Puerto Rico and 2and time I booked with the hotel, and i didn't experience this type of treatment the fisrt time that's why i decided to stay the 2and time... I will never stay at Canario Boutique Hotel again, Doralis was so rude that I literally thought I was going to call the police on her since she didn't stop talking over us and been extremely rude saying all kind of rudeness. I didn't need that kind of treatment and I told Doralis that I never experienced this kind of treatment and she replied saying "Well that is not my problem".  Second, when we entered the room the beds were not properly done, and the bathrooms were still dirty. I wonder what do the housecleaning people at your hotel do exactly to prepare the room for the next guest? Do they have a checklist or do they just randomly go through stuff? I didn't want to make a complaint but next morning I ask the front desk young girl that I wanted to speak with the manager of the hotel what she replied well, I have his number but is his personal phone and I can't give it to you. I told her take my number and please tell him to call me.. Well I never heard from the Manager of the property. I never experienced this kind of treatment and it will be the last time I will stay at Canario Boutique Hotel or any sister property. They should not have people like Doralis working as Customer Service she dont know how to treat people she dont have any customer service skills. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE..  I hope you agree with me that this type of service is completely unacceptable at so many levels. It is not the kind of treatment I would have expected from your hotel a better experience I am very disappointed from this bitter experience. I would like to hear your thoughts about my complaint and the steps that you are willing to take to prevent such incidents in the future.

Yelp
This was a vacation on a super budget. This place was recommended by a friend. The manager (Eddie) was very friendly and accommodating throughout the whole process. Upon arrival, he was there at the desk waiting to greet us and do the check in. This hotel is in a great area, it's not fancy but if you're vacationing and just need somewhere to sleep and shower, then this is your place. Shared kitchen, beautiful patio area, doors to hotel entrance are locked so no strangers wandering. With a little TLC this place has a lot of potential. We enjoyed our time there and Eddie was fantastic! Gave us parking tips, asked if we needed help signing up for any tours... was enjoyable!!

Yelp
I booked through booking.com. When I arrived my reservation was not found and I was turned away. I agreed to this as long as I did not have to pay what I agreed to stay for (4 days). They agreed. 4 hours later - after I had checked in to the Marriot next door (mind you $300 more per day) they found the reservation, called me back and asked me to come back. I obviously declined and the attendant not only hung up on me, but rejected my calls as to avoid me. I reported this to booking.com and they had to reimburse the difference. Nicely done Canario Boutique Hotel... Now I know about your "gay pick-up spot" reputation. No hate towards the gay part. But hate towards the sketchy-ness. Best wishes.

Yelp
We've tried for the past 3 days to get an understanding from the hotel towards our stay in moments like this and instead of caring for our safety they just charge us and ignored our request because that's what greedy businesses do. They care less for their guests and more about the money. Puerto Rico had experience a total of 10 earthquake in the past 5 days escalating from 4.5 magnitudes to 6.6 leaving the island without power and water. The hotel is near the beach in a tsunami area, the streets near by were we are supposed to parked aren't powered but Oh they keep pushing us away with our request. Am I supposed to risk my wellbeing, safety and mental health because they have a generator? Oh I don't think so. Instead of handling the request and provide us with some options they just charge us without us even staying and asking them since January 6, 2020 to help us resolve this issue. How can I recommend a facility that clearly DO NOT CARE for our safety? How can I "enjoy" my state when the quakes are constant? Am I suppose to risk my life because of the blind ignorance of the personal working for this "hotel"? Coming from an hospitality environment I am shock to be so mistreated and ignored. The island is 100 miles x 40 miles you can feel the earthquakes from all parts, we were staying at Isla Verde and we felt them, so we have being at the mountains until our flight back home. If you care about your safety, mental state or wellbeing DO NOT STAY at this hotel. We are still waiting to get their evacuations plans, shelter, food plan etc. They ignored every request made, but of course didn't forgot to charge us, maybe for that they do have the personnel not for addressing any of our requests.

Yelp
Here is my whole stay: I stayed here last night due to my AirBnb not being ready upon my arrival. I parked in the parking in-front of the hotel to drop off the luggage for check-in. When we entered there was no Agent. The agent entered soon after from his "lunch break" at 9pm. He was shorter with eye glasses and had a major attitude with me. The first thing he told me was I had exactly a minute to move my car or it would be towed. I told him I had a reservation, and he immediately rolled his eyes and asked for my name. I then had to ask him 3 separate times for an invoice so I could send it to a AirBnB and get a refund. He reluctantly did it claiming that the person in the morning could do it. He was very lazy and rude. The Room: The room smelled of mold. And it was small. Check in is at 4pm and checkout is at 11am. Overall thoughts: Very very mediocre hotel. I would put it on the lower end. I was expecting the first desk agent to be a bit nicer but the older gentleman with the shaved head made up for the first agent. Poor experience. I would avoid this place if I spent my own money.

Yelp
We booked 1 night at the Canario Boutique Hotel in San Juan while there had been earthquakes, water outage and a state of emergency declared by the governor so we were hoping to cancel our reservation and receive a refund. The seismic activity was in the southwest where we would be spending most of our trip and, although the hotel is in San Juan, the concern was obviously with our safety. The Canario hotel never picked up the phone so we could explain the reason for the cancellation and showed no sensibility to our situation on emails. We were able to get a refund from airlines, car rental and other hotels as they all have policies that accommodated our request in this difficult and dangerous time. Also based on the other reviews, it seems the Canario Hotel is confirmed to be bad in customer service. Please stay away from this establishment and save yourself from troubles and headache.

Yelp
Very quaint and no-frills but very clean (except for the ceiling fan). Beds are very comfortable and beautiful terrace. There are three stories and no elevator, so for the elderly or those with physical limitations, it may be tough. They do not have a pool, but their sister property, Acacia Boutique, has one that you can use (1 mile away). Wish they had coffee in the morning and a refrigerator in the room. Very close to the beach and a great food mart across the street with fresh wraps, salads, and fruit for a quick inexpensive meal. The hotel provides beach towels.

Yelp
I am not a high maintenance person, and I was in PR for work so my needs were few. A bed, a shower, I'm happy. The Pros: beautiful location! Good AC in room. Good water pressure in showers, REALLY good coffee in kitchen in the morning. Polite, friendly staff. The Cons: sheets and towels smell clean but are all covered in black grease marks. They look filthy. 4 pm check in is a bit late in the day. If check out was at 11, there was no reason I should have had to wait 3 hours to get into my room. Pictures misleading. There is one on the website of a pool. There is no pool. All that being said, I would stay again if I was able to get the room for less than $200/night. Its is NOT worth more than that. UPDATE TO MISLEADING PICTURES!!!! MANY OF TEH PICTURES ARE FROM A DIFFERENT HOTEL!!!! THER IS NO POOL, NO BALCONIES, AND NO FANCY LIGHTED SEATING AREA.

Yelp
I booked this hotel through Booking.com. The photos provided looked decent enough but when I arrived at the hotel, the room was a disgrace. Not at all as pictured. The mattress was stained a putrid yellow/brown, the bathroom was tiny, poorly maintained and the grout was moldy. The bed linens were stained. The AC unit was at least 20 years old and there were exposed wires coming out of the wall. I didn't stay long and requested a refund bc I had to find another hotel for the night. The hotel has refused a refund with the excuse that I should have accepted another room. A rational person would assume that another room would be in similar condition. Don't waste your time or money with this hotel. It's disgusting and they are rude.

Steven V.

Yelp
***BEWARE***Our $800 Apple Watch was stolen from the room while we were exploring for the day while left on the end table. (Yelp reviews showed me I wasn't the only one who I was robbed at this hotel) The windows were broken so mosquito's lived in the room, toilet didn't flush, and room was filthy. The location is awesome which is all they have going for themselves! They also charge $25 per hour for early check in even though the room was ready. When the theft was brought to the attention of the manager, we were told no one enters the room cause of the pandemic. No forced entry so obviously someone entered the room had to be staff. They refused to review security camera in the hall, and all the safes are out of order so we were forced to carry all of our valuable possessions with us the entire trip. Then we were told that we signed the release stating they were not responsible for personal items. They are not friendly to non-Spanish speaking people. Police were unhelpful as they never showed up to the hotel as they said they would. The complaint for misterbnb and booking.com needs a police report which the police did not assist us because I assume they don't consider a stolen watch important! The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Everything else is completely terrible! Highly suggest you spend a little more and find a different place to stay. It had the potential to be as great at Puerto Rico but fell very short. I'd give it a negative star if I could! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!

Yelp
Such a cute boutique hotel. Visited for the San Sebastian Festival and it was pretty close to Old San Juan. I was surprised. The location is perfect on a busy street with a lot of options to eat. They have a really cute courtyard to relax and the hotel is beautiful. I will stay again if ever in Puerto Rico.

Yelp
This is a true gem in the PR. Perfect if you are not planning on staying a long time or If you are not all boogie. My husband and I went on a cruise and this was a perfect spot to rest. It's quite and cozy plus they offer coffee in the morning. It's conveniently located 2 blocks from the beach and right outside a lot of restaurants and grocery stores. Everything is clean and the AC in the room feels so good after being outside in the heat. Also the good thing is that they keep the front door locked so unless you are staying there you won't be able to come in. Try this place out!

Yelp
This was the worst experience I've had in my life. From the first day I arrived to the last day I was there the toilet hot water in the sink and the tv didn't work. I went to the manager everyday I was there and told him about the problem and received no response from him. At one point one of the staff members told me to fill the trash can with water to flush the toilet. The room was never cleaned I had to sleep on the same sheets for for the 4 days I was there. I was ignored by the manager and staff but the only person that attempted to help was Eddie but he was working at the other property and tried to help me by speaking to other manager and staff but they did nothing. And to add insult to injury the Matnance man lives on the property and was working in vacant rooms on the property but never made it to my room in 4 days. I honestly feel that a refund of some sort is needed or some type of compensation.

Yelp
I booked a room here and when I got to my room it was full of mosquitos, they left the windows open, I tried cancelling the room and they did not help at all, they just gave me some mosquito spray, the people at the front desk were ok but the supervisor didn't want to help, the hotel looks really old and does not have an elevator although the people in the front desk offer to help with luggage.

Yelp
This is a great value hotel with a perfect location for a short trip to San Juan. Easy access to the beach, Old San Juan, and some wonderful restaurants. Friendly lady at check in made us feel welcome. Fresh coffee in the morning can be enjoyed in the beautiful courtyard or lobby. Lovely oasis among the high rise buildings. Our room was clean and the a/c worked well. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon!

Yelp
Serves it's purpose.. Stayed here for 1 night, after my friend and I decided to extend our trip, location great walking distance to everything restaurants, beach and shopping, small size room even smaller size bathroom. Employees are very nice and helpful. Wifi is free but hotel service was not good, television was very small and signal was not good.

Yelp
My laptop was stolen while I was staying at the Canario Boutique Hotel. I kept the laptop in my room during the entire stay, and was dismayed to find on my last day that it had disappeared. The staff was helpful while my friend was still on the premises, promising to look at security footage, but after she departed they proved very reticent to help. The receptionist refused to give me the name or contact information of the manager so that I could discuss the issue further (I have never heard of a hotel that won't allow its guests to contact the management). She said I could file a "complaint" by emailing the hotel. I did so, but (unsurprisingly) have not heard back. This incident is really a shame, because my friend and I enjoyed other aspects of our stay, but we will not be coming back and will advise others to do the same. If you do decide to book with them, please consider keeping your belongings in the safe, as the rooms do not seem to be secure.

Yelp
Safe & convenient. Staff friendly but don't rely on them for directions or recommendations. Beach towels yes. Room tiny but hotel is quiet and you have access to pool at sister hotels but you don't need it because you're right in front of the beach here. Walking distance to restaurants bars casinos but about 3 miles to old San Juan

Yelp
This is the cutest hotel in San Juan. It's very old fashioned, but in very good condition. The main office is adorable and the patio is colorful, with lots of nature, and their are tables to enjoy a couple of drinks. The rooms are small, but they are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the bathroom and shower are great. The AC are the old ones you put in the window, but it does its job just fine! The area around the hotel is beautiful; they have many restaurants surrounding the hotel and the beach is a block away. I honesty had a great stay and would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
The management is terrible. Deserves no stars. Because our cruise & convention was canceled, we had no need for a hotel in Puerto Rico. Due to the Coronavirus, and out safety ( age 72 & 76) we canceled. The hotel insisted no refund, but for $100 we could change dates up to a year. I called the hotel 4 times. No one answered the phone.Canceled through booking. Com. The customer service was wonderful! They called the hotel & attempted to negotiate for me. At their request sent all the information from Royal Caribbean canceling the cruise, airlines, etc. This was sent to the decision maker at reservations@ acacia boutique hotel.com, who answered again no refund. We wanted to have this vacation. We were surprised by this virus and cancellations like everyone else. Our safety and theirs were of no consequence to this hotel. No concern for their other guests. Just greed greed greed!!!! Do not make a reservation with greed!!!

Yelp
The only positive is the warm and welcoming staff. Here are all the other facts which are negatives. There's a hole in my window! Broken glass! There's a screen to protect against bugs though. The walls and rooms are dirty and old. The walls are disgusting. The bathroom is tiny and moldy by the shower. The bed does not look completely clean. My friend's room had cockroaches in it (they asked for a different room). I would not recommend if you're on vacation. You'd want it to feel like a vacation but this place did not feel like it

Yelp
If I could give this place a negative rating I would. We arrived at 130pm and when we got here the little guy with 4 eyes who looked potrudingly hot said we had to wait until 3pm for check-in. Ok. Fine. Rules are rules. My husband and I go eat and come back and then the system is down. Let me remind you they also are the main booking channels for 2 of their sister hotels. And at this time the 4 eyed guy gets up and leaves. His shift is over. Ha He literally bounced at 3pm sharp!! Another 30minutes go buy and still no internet. After dealing with that we get to our room and since my husband booked this on Orbitz.... he thought it would be Ok. This place is a dump. Woke up at 430AM with a huge roach and ants all over the bathroom. The water pressure does not work. Toilet barely flushed. Windows left opened with screws hanging out. There was a half a role of toilet paper so thin u could wipe your own butt with your fingers instead. I gave him a special tour of this roach infested 4x4 box!! And THEN when we called Orbitz to get out of here even with trip protection, this bug faced 4 eye said no and then would not give me the manager contact info! He is soooo lucky!!! BEWARE. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Yelp
We booked this place last minute on Hotel Tonight, as we like to stay in San Juan on the first night and then rent a car the next day to explore other areas. Last time we stayed in Old San Juan so this time we thought we'd stay in Condado. We are budget travelers, so we do our best to get the lowest rate. This little gem is right on Ashford Avenue, pretty much next door to the Marriott. Is it like the Marriott?? Hell No!! It's a small boutique hotel, pretty much just room and board. The front desk girl, Alma, was very sweet. We arrived a little after 2pm and we understand that check-in isn't until 3pm - that our room may not be ready yet, so we left our luggage with her and she recommended we have lunch at Orozco's and that our room would be ready when we returned. Had lunch (delicious, by the way) and then walked back to our hotel. Another guy was at the desk, his name was Christian - also very polite and friendly! Our room was ready. The small hotel has a gorgeous little courtyard filled with beautiful plants and covered seating and a water fountain. It's so cute - another guest was out there quietly working on her laptop. Very serene area. Our room was located passed the courtyard in a secluded area on top of a few steps. There are only two rooms back there, so it was nice and private - even had a little deck area with chairs you can lounge in at the base of the stairs. The room is small - just has what you need - TV, one bedside table and the bed. Ceiling fan and AC working perfectly. Lighting is great. Closet with a door, room safe (I assume you would need a key from the front desk if you need to use it, we didn't use it), hangers and a foldout to place your luggage. Bathroom is well lit with vanity light option or ceiling light. Bathroom is clean, bright and the shower had great water pressure. Hot water was fine. No roaches or ants in our room, like some have experienced, thankfully! We loved our stay here. We were only here one night, but had no issues. Internet connected fine, I think the TV worked, but we weren't in our room long enough to have to use it! Please remember that you get what you pay for. If you're looking for more amenities, fancy rooms or what not, spend your money on a brand name hotel, as there are plenty in San Juan. The location is fantastic, you really can't beat it. Literally a block away from the beach (AND they offer beach hotels for your use). You're right on Ashford Avenue, with all the restaurants, casinos down the street. It's a lovely area. You can also use their sister hotel's facilities, but again we didn't have time to explore. They even had shampoo and soap (honestly, wasn't quite sure if they would have it lol) but they did and we were fine with that. Is it fancy soap? Not, it's cheap but it does the job. If you are particular, bring your own or walk down to CVS to buy your own. There is a shared kitchen, apparently - I didn't know until I read some reviews - it would have been nice if the front desk folks would have mentioned it - but wasn't a deal breaker for us. No breakfast included but coffee offered in the morning. I also liked that you need to be buzzed in to enter and after 11pm the door is locked, you will need your key to open the front door, so we felt safe and secure. We would definitely come back and stay here again.

Yelp
We stayed at El Canario by the Lagoon prior to leaving on our cruise and had a great time, however we booked El Canario Inn after the cruise, and expected that it would be a similar stay. However upon arriving and realizing that there was no lift, and having to carry all our luggage up three flights of stairs to a mosquito invaded room was not pleasant. The wifi was much slower, and the bathroom was tiny and nowhere near as tidy as the prior stay. El Canario Inn was actually more expensive too, so we at least expected an elevator! The Inn is slightly closer to the beach, however both are about equal distance from the action of Ashford Avenue. I'm not sure if the management or the owners are the same, but there is a very big variation in the two hotels - I'd recommend the lagoon over this one!

Yelp
Canario Boutique Hotel is tucked in behind the palm trees. This hotel is in a great location, close to both airports. The rooms are super quite. Excellent air conditioning to keep the rooms cool. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. This is a great place to make your home base. I highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
This Hotel is misleading and their customer service is the worst! I booked online for a Double Standard Room..to my understanding of a DSR is Queen size bed or two beds or a King size bed. According to their standards a DSR is a full size bed! Who has full size beds anymore! I tried communicating with them and explaining that my husband and I do not fit in a full size bed especially for 14 days. They wouldn't budge. I showed up on the day of my reservation and ask to see the room..it was in a 3rd floor walk up..it was tiny, dark and the bed looked more like a twin size bed..my husband has severe back problems and can't walk up stairs..again I try working with them to no avail. I had to leave.. stay away avoid my nightmare!

Yelp
Very clean and inexpensive hotel in the heart of ashford avenue in condado. I found the decor to be charming, very old European. The staff were very friendly and helpful and allowed us to check in early as soon as our room was ready. If you're looking for a cute, cheap, and clean place to stay, this is the hotel for you. Why spend 800+ for a room in the neighboring brand name hotels when you'll be barely be in the room?

Yelp
Super cute! The two separate times I needed help, once for wifi help, and the other to call a cab, the front desk was more than accommodating. Very friendly!

Yelp
Really nice small hotel in the middle of everything. We usually stay with friends or rent the apt but this time we opt for hotel and. A night is less than $100 so for family of 4 it was simply perfect. The room is small but that's what we need. It is practically one block from the beach and they allow you to use the pool in their sister hotel niche. It has many exciting restaurants around and shopping stores. The kitchen is downstairs and you can use the microwave and fridge. Amazing strong coffee in the morning, complimentary. It's clean and the staff is super helpful and polite. We will be back.

Yelp
Great Hotel. Clean. Inexpensive. Great location. Close to a lot of restaurants. And it's a block away from the beach. Staff is friendly and very helpful. The free breakfast is your standard continental breakfast (pastries, cereal, and coffee) but it's free so can't really complain. They have beach towels you can sign out.

Yelp
We booked it on Expedia and very disappointed. The toilet doesn't work, breakfast is horrible ( white cheapest bread toast and not even a slice of fruit and fake chemical juice), our room is very dark and stuffy and no furniture except the bed and two commodes on the sides and a tv- nowhere to put things or sit Down to put on shoes, shower and bathroom is so tiny, toiletries are smelly and cheap. We paid almost $200 a night and this is $60 a night worth- nothing boutique about it. They don't clean your room unless you ask them snd they give you tiny washed out old towels with holes. I would never stay here again.

Yelp
This is a terrible hotel. There was no hot water. We were sent here from their sister hotel Acacia Boutique Hotel because they gave our confirmed reservation to someone else. Of course we had to take it because most places were booked. Getting ready to go to bed and someone has a barking dog. Never indicated it was pet friendly. Be very careful all the pictures on booking.com, hotels.com were doctored. Stay away from these hotels.

Yelp
On a whim my fiancée and I decided to spend a night in San Juan. After going on Priceline, we found this hotel at a $98 rate. Conveniently located in downtown, it is a very small and quaint yellow building that might be easy to miss amidst the sky high corporate hotels that are on every block. Although the front door was locked (not an issue for me, I appreciate the security), we were buzzed in right away. No there are no elevators, but as we were only spending one night we had packed light so a few stairs were easy. Our room was a decent size, perhaps not suitable for an extended stay, but we could move around comfortably. The AC quickly made our room very cold. The bed was comfortable and clean. Our only issues were that the TVs remote was broken and the pressure in the shower was low. It was fixed by a maintenance man and that made it considerably better. Maybe it's not a corporate hotel with many amenities, but for the price and location its a great deal for a quick stay!
