I cannot adequately express our gratitude to the Canberra Theatre Centre team tonight.
My father is wheelchair bound, and we had purchased VIP meet and greet tickets for this evening’s show. Due to accessibility limitations within the main theatre, he wasn’t able to be accommodated in the auditorium itself.
What the team did next was nothing short of extraordinary.
They arranged for us to use a private VIP room and live-streamed the performance so my father wouldn’t miss a moment. They provided complimentary food and drinks and checked in with us throughout the evening to ensure he was comfortable and enjoying himself.
Every staff member we encountered was patient, professional and deeply kind. We never felt like an inconvenience — only supported and genuinely cared for.
This will very likely be the last show my father is able to attend, as he is living with a terminal illness. The compassion and thoughtfulness shown by the Canberra Theatre team has given our family a memory we will treasure forever.
Accessibility is more than physical access — it’s empathy, flexibility and a willingness to go above and beyond. Tonight, they showed exactly what that looks like.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
