Hubbs and I went for a date night and what a perfect evening! The valet got a kick out of parking our pimped out golf cart, and since we arrived a tad early we went to the Hideaway bar for a quick cocktail before dinner. The bar staff were amusing to talk to and custom made a mocktail for Hubbs which was delicious. My cold Chablis was exactly what I was craving and we loved the salted olives and popcorn snacks too.
Once in the restaurant we were greeted and seated, right at the front of the restaurant with a beautiful sea view, bliss! We had an early seating at 6.15pm and the shades were still down to stop the searing pre sunset glare, but once the sun set the shades were drawn up and the canopy ceiling retracted and we could watch the sunset and the stars appear.
5* service was excellent, 10/10, and the staff were all friendly and helpful and our server knowledgeable with questions regarding the menu, etc. The young man who kept our water glasses filled was unintrusive but somehow we had a full glass all night, and the ladies at the entrance desk asked if we enjoyed our date night and had a laugh with us as we were leaving.
So onto the big attraction, food! We ordered:
Maui onion soup - comes in it's own metal serving dish so it stays piping hot, nice stock, lots of onion and plenty of cheese on top.
Lobster Mac n Cheese - small dish but deceptively filling, with nice chunks of lobster and a dreamy creamy sauce. The pasta is little orchietta 'hats' not macaroni so purists may be thrown, but put any pasta in cheesy sauce and I'm sold! Delicious dish.
Pork chop - a huge hunk of piggy on a big wide plate, which is also deceptive, as it is a large amount of food. The pork was cooked to perfection and the red cabbage and spaetzle was very tasty too. Hubby was in porcine heaven ;)
Brussel sprouts - deeeelicious, with raisins which are obviously steeped in a tasty stock and are plump and flavourful, and the sriracha heat which is a match made in heaven with brussels.
Buffalo Cauliflower - cauliflower is so expensive on island it was a big treat! It was cooked perfectly with a bit of bite, the blue cheese dressing was Ahma-zing and the buffalo sauce definitely gives it a kick!
Baked Hawaii - An amazing dessert you have to try, artistically plated, melt in the mouth sweetness and light, with a tangy sauce and a lot of textures and flavours to enjoy. Hubby was in dessert heaven, especially the ice cream inside.
Chocolates - odd they gave us 3 between us, and I did consider arm wrestling Hubbs for the last one but I was too full and content with my amazing meal so I let him have it........this time.
We had a sublime culinary treat, a perfect date night and it was so relaxing we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. One of the best date nights we have had on island. Many thanks to the chefs, servers and valets for their hard work in making our night perfect.
The cherry on top of the culinary cake was we also got a locals discount with our HI drivers license which made it a little less of a hit on the wallet.
PS...We did see a cute black cat in the garden area, but all restaurants on Maui have cats passing through as we have a large wild population on island. I have seen them in EVERY restaurant we have visited so people below commenting on them in this particular restaurant are unfair.
