Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa

"How did it strike you on arrival? In the shadow of the impressively long Astoria-Megler bridge (the longest continuous truss bridge in the United States), The Cannery stretches out on a pier along the Columbia River. Clad in brick-red metal siding and looking not too dissimilar from the old cannery it replaced, the hotel doesn’t earn points for curb appeal. But you’ll soon forget that once you walk in and see the comfortable lounge, with its cozy couches, fireplace, and two-story floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the deck and busy river below. Survey the crowd—who's here?If you’ve arrived in time for Wine & Lox, which is served in the lounge from 5 to 6 pm nightly, you’ll likely see the rest of the hotel guests lining up to fill up their glasses. Most will be well-to-do Boomers and well-heeled international tourists, since this is the most luxe hotel in town. How was check in? Check in at the small, simple two-person desk right when you walk through the door. The rooms are analog enough to make it very easy to feel at home. And the rooms?Low-tech rooms feature decor firmly planted in the late 1990s, but they’re plush in their own way. Each has a gas fireplace, view of the river, and balcony where you can sit and watch the container ships and pilot boats go by. You can even watch the river action from the shower and tub, thanks to some pretty smart bathroom design. If you travel with your pup, book a dog-friendly room. If you travel with kids, or maybe your aging parents, book the Pilot House on the fifth floor, which has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. Did any details stand out to you?The rooms at the Cannery Pier are all about the Columbia River view, offering a window seat or easy chair, couch, and little balcony so you can sit and enjoy it all day long. If the breeze gets too chilly while you’re outside, wrap yourself in the room’s Pendleton throw. Wifi is free and fast. What's the coffee, food, and drink scene like? The wet bar has a Keurig-style coffee maker and real half-and-half in the mini-fridge instead of the usual gross powdery stuff. There’s no onsite restaurant or bar, but you can partake of the free continental breakfast, which includes hot items like breakfast burritos and waffles. Or just grab one of the pastries, hop on one of the free day-use cruiser bikes, and head to a nearby cafe. If you time it right, you can hop on the Astoria Trolley, which runs along the river. In the evening, the hotel’s driver to take you to one of the restaurants or bars in town; you’ll arrive in style in one of a rotating cast of vintage cars. But before you go, stop by the lounge for free wine, cheese, and smoked salmon from 5 to 6 p.m. nightly. What other features should we know about?A small gym room overlooks the river, which makes fitting in a workout a little less painful. Book a massage, facial or body wrap in the spa, take a dip in the saline hot tub, or warm your bones in the Finnish sauna, a nod to Astoria’s Finnish fishermen heritage. What's the bottom line? You’ve come to Astoria to watch the river, and there’s no better place to do it than here. Add in really comfy beds, fluffy towels and robes, and a gas fireplace, and you've got the coziest perch in town." - Danielle Centoni

"Party on the Pier The Cannery Pier Hotel is a delightful property in the old cannery district on the Columbia River waterfront in Astoria. The 360-degree feel of the water makes a stay at the Pier more like a luxury cruise line port of call. The views are bound to engulf guests, but the service and hotel amenities are also sure to please. Staff are sharp and engaging, while rooms are spotless and nicely appointed. One bonus is the private cab service to shuttle guests to some of the local sites. They're prompt and courteous, giving guests access to a revived Astoria tourist trade. A spa package is also available to help get the kinks out. One highlight on the local restaurant scene, the Bridgewater Bistro, is just a short walk across the pier and highly recommended. The hotel hosts a wine and cheese tasting and offer a continental breakfast to start your day. When the weather is right, check out one of the beach cruiser bikes and ride into town for a little two-wheeled exploring. All part of a complete service environment. The Pier provides a wonderful home base to explore the terminus of the Lewis and Clark Trail, while being pampered in a welcoming NW outpost."

We spent two nights at the Cannery Pier this time and it absolutely did NOT disappoint. The views are incredible, the staff is amazing, and I will keep going back! The rooms are spacious and clean, and the views of the Columbia River and the bridge are the best. Breakfast is delicious with made-to-order omelettes and other hot, delicious choices. Each day a $25 voucher is given for the hotel bar. We weren't really hungry the second night but went ahead and ordered of the menu and the food was amazing. The Cannery Pier is like a home away from home - and I hope to make visit #3 in the future.

Five star views, but more of a very nice four star hotel overall. The room was large, nicely furnished and comfortable, and even came with binoculars to get a close up view of the passing ships. Good, but limited, food choices at the bar (try the clam chowder) and for breakfast. We were warmly greeted upon check in, but treated indifferently upon check out…which made it end kind of weird! But generally the staff was friendly and helpful.

We stayed two nights at the Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the start, the staff made us feel welcome. Janice was kind and helpful during the booking and check-in process, and John — who drove us to our dinner reservation — was friendly and knowledgeable, offering great local insight along the way. We stayed in room 401, which was lovely and had stunning views of the Columbia River. Watching the ships go by was peaceful and romantic. The bed and pillows were especially comfortable and helped us sleep well. While the room was generally very nice, it was a bit dustier than expected for one that had just been cleaned. We enjoyed using the hot tub and sauna — a nice perk — though the hot tub area could use a refresh, as there was visible rust and chipping paint on the surrounding floor. Still, it was great to have those amenities available. The complimentary breakfast was another highlight, especially the omelet service. I had a delicious chorizo omelet that really hit the spot. The staff throughout the property were kind and attentive, adding to the sense of care and relaxation. We’d happily recommend the Cannery Pier Hotel for couples and solo travelers alike. It was a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary, and we’d definitely return.

We had a fantastic stay at this gem of a hotel in 2025! 🏨 The views are absolutely stunning, especially from our little balcony, and the Rolls-Royce shuttle was such a classy touch! 😎 Our room was spacious with super comfy pillows, and the bathroom felt like a luxe spa. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Breakfast omelets were made to order, and the mac and cheese at dinner was next-level delicious! 🧀 The bar’s inviting vibe and gorgeous views were a highlight. Only bummer? The restaurant was out of several menu items, so we had to grab food at the pier bistro for my hungry daughter. Still, this place is amazing, and we’re already planning to return! 🌅

Google
This hotel, restaurant, and staff are awesome! Our room had a very well designed layout. We loved the little details like the binoculars provided for watching the ships go bye and taking in the unparalleled view from being in this location. Truly note worthy bonuses you can't get anywhere else. If you get a chance to take a ride in their personal vehicle and meet Ken, prepare for a great time! He's awesome 😎 HIGHLY recommend!

The Cannery is a lovely property with amazing views and nice amenities. We have always enjoyed our stay. I liked the changes made to breakfast options and preparations. I also liked the bar 600 options for food and specialty drinks. The location of the hotel offers such a unique experience.

I stayed in the Cannery hotel with two dogs. We were warmly welcomed from the beginning to the end. Staff and guests talked to us and play with dogs nicely. The hotel room in specious with high end amenities. You can use on site spa and the 25 dollar credits can be use to purchase multiple drinks (unlike some high end hotels with highly inflated items). Location can’t be beat with close view of the Astoria bridge . Breakfast omelette was delicious with other types of food . I’d hope to add more selections of fruit or veggie salad and meat options like sausage or bacon. will stay there again if I am in the area again

My husband & I visited Cannery for our 21st wedding anniversary, and it was a great experience. The room was neat & the views from every window were awesome. The hotel is so quiet and peaceful. The jet tub in the room was great. We stocked our little bar area with snacks, but also enjoyed the Bar600 downstairs. We had the pulled pork sliders, crab dip, and sourdough bread bowl clam chowder. The food was quite yummy. The breakfast was good too & I especially liked the custom-made omelettes. The staff was all super friendly, and it was so much fun to have a vintage car for our ride to dinner. John was a great tour guide. My only complaint of the whole stay. and it’s a small one, is the condition of the hot tub in the spa area. It’s looking pretty rough. But it did work well, and the sauna was nice. Oh, and one more thing… the pillows are great. I have neck issues & found the pillows to be very comfy & supportive. We hope to come back again soon.

Yelp
What a fantastic hotel! We stayed here for two nights and had one the most comfortable and luxurious weekends. My wife had the 1 hour deep tissue massage, and said it was the best she's ever had. The breakfast omelettes were fantastic in the morning, along with the drinks at the bar in the evening. Loved the ships passing by through the day. Also the vintage car rides anywhere you want to go were a nice touch! I highly recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
If I could give 4.5 stars, I would! We just recently stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa for the first time. It was an amazing experience, almost 5 stars all around. Pros: The hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. Every room has a view of the River, because you're practically over it! Fireplace, mini fridge, claw foot tub, separate shower. Complimentary breakfast, with an omelette chef. I've read a lot of reviews on Yelp for the Cannery Pier indicating that the breakfast is no better than a Best Western. No disrespect to those reviewers, but I've stayed at my fair share of Best Westerns, and I've only ever seen one that had an omelette chef (Sutherlin, Oregon, if you're wondering). The breakfast was great. Staff. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Our housekeeper did an amazing job - honestly, I've never seen a hotel room cleaned that well during our stay. Bar 600. Drinks were really good. Servers and bartenders were great. Cons: The bed was the hardest bed I've ever slept on. The pillows were decent, nothing great. This was the only real negative aspect of the room. The food in the bar (Bar 600) needs some work. The food is not on par with the drinks. We sampled 3 items, and the best of the three were the Jalapeño Poppers ($8). The Italian Meatballs ($15) were good, but they came out cold and we had to request that they be reheated. And they were garlicky! I mean, we love garlic, but this was a bit much. Maybe they're working on a Halloween-inspired menu with those garlic meatballs. The Vegetable Spring Rolls ($13) came with two. They were pretty big, but they just seemed to fall apart, loosely wrapped. But other than that, we had a great time, and we'll definitely be back. If you hit Bar 600, skip the food and try the Seafoam (Vanilla Vodka, Malibu rum, Pineapple Juice and Whip Cream). I had one both nights we stayed there!

Yelp
The hotel, on the first onset, is beautiful, small and in an amazing location. Front desk experience was great, easy smooth check-in. However after getting into our room (almost $400 a night) it became apparent that it hadn't been cleaned properly / at all. I had to sent multiple photos to the general manager as there was literally dirt all over the back of the bathroom door, both of the shower heads were covered in dust, dust on the headboard, dirt on window sills, dirt on the walls in the bathroom, etc. Further, one of the bathrobes had blue stains on it. To the credit, the GM acted promptly and the room was cleaned. The bathrobes are washed in one of the most pungent and headache inducing scents I have ever experienced. It engulfed the entire room with scent, to the point where I had to leave the bathrobes outside of the room & open the windows. It is ironic as there are beautiful smelling natural products offered in the bathroom/shower & the spa is aligned with Aveda. The bar food was below standard. The mac & cheese was cold, had no flavour except one of a plastic container. Our $22.00 crab dip came out with dried slices of zucchini and huge chunks of green pepper, which felt very odd and misaligned to what is shown online. The cocktails were for the most part good, but I would absolutely not eat there. The breakfast is very simple, the fruit salad was inedible. The egg used for the omelets were tipped out of a container. It's a very high end price point and there are parts of the hotel offerings which don't feel holistically aligned to the price point the hotel is placing itself at. The views are amazing.

Yelp
The hotel was spotless and well-maintained, with excellent service throughout our stay. The view from our room was absolutely stunning! We had a fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Yelp
We came here for our two year wedding anniversary. This was our second year in a row in Astoria and this stay was even more amazing than the last one. We're seriously contemplating on making Astoria a yearly trip. Negatives: -maybe price, but they do offer seasonal discounts. Keep an eye out on their website. I initially missed the discount when I booked through Booking.com, but they were kind enough to apply the discount on my stay anyway as my stay did qualify for that month. Positives: -service, from the host, to the bartender, the breakfast cook, to the room service, and our chauffeur everyone was amazing. Things to point out, --our host responded to my texts and was very accommodating of my requests. She helped us with the discount with our stay. She gave us a complimentary photo of our stay and gave it to us early after I told her we would be leaving early on our last day. She remembered our names and room number. Those little details showed great attention and care. --room service is done on a daily basis, it includes vacuuming and mopping. Most hotels have reduced this to every other day or non existence using Covid as an excuse. They even filled our water as requested and all the free amenities like, coffee, bath salts, and tea --John our chauffeur went above and beyond providing me and my wife with a classy drive up and down the river walk. It started with me asking him to give us a simple short drive down to the pier before dropping us off at our dinner spot. He drove us down and told us all about the history of Astoria, he knew so much and gave us many recommendations along with providing answers to our many curious questions. It was a very classy tour experience that we will always remember. Making our anniversary feel that much more special. Thank you John --the room was modern and provided us a view of the river from every angle. The bed was comfy, and everything was super clean. Air conditioning was good, the view of the river was beautiful, and we loved using our bath tub. We will definitely be back, overall 6 out of 5. Our experience was unforgettable

Yelp
Everything about this place is spot on. The staff are courteous and engaging, the ambiance and views are some of the finest and the entire hotel and our rooms are impeccably clean. I am very particular about cleanliness and proper maintenance of the common grounds, and this hotel is one of the finest I have seen. Our room was comfortable and quiet, with upscale linens and Aveda bath products, and the river and bridge view is truly outstanding.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a trip and stay here. AWESOME VIEW of the boats coming in with balcony, literally over the water. Customer service was great, everyone was extremely helpful. It's been recently remodeled and the entire place (front lobby, common area, rooms) is classy, impeccably clean with trinkets, food & alcohol at your fingertips. On the second floor, there's a "mini museum "with a full history of the area and how Cannery Pier became a hotel. They also provide bicycles to use free of charge for easy access to downtown. If one doesn't feel like biking, they also provide a ride service (in the coolest car ever), alsofree of charge. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
‍ I feel sorry for my wife because she planned this Thanksgiving weekend and they are under construction. Rooms nice but really dusty. See pictures. Plus nothing like the sound of a beep beep fork lift backing up sound in the morning. We had a pet and did not get the pet package. "Sunrise Breakfast" is a bowl of cereal. "Signature Vintage Chauffeur car service nightly" this is exaggerated. "Nightly fresh-baked cookies" never happened. All this for 800 dollars. Don't stay here! We feel swindled. Stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Spent a weekend here recently and loved it. The hotel is charming and small. The definition of a boutique hotel experience. Staff is all lovely, rooms are well appointed and there really is no room without an incredible view. We loved watching the ships go by right outside our window. That was a major highlight and the manifest of the ships coming through that day is provided daily. We saw seals, sea lions and birds from our view. We loved the bar in the evenings and the ambience of the seating in the bar including areas to sit by the fireplaces. The only complaint we had is regarding the beds. The beds are hard and the pillows are too soft so it was not a comfortable sleeping experience and the only reason this is not a five star review. Also this is a dog friendly hotel, and at times the dogs were barking and annoying in the common area. This was not the hotels fault but annoying nonetheless as the common area is also the bar area. We loved it here overall and these are minor things that would not deter us from staying again. Wonderful experience.

Yelp
Love in the time of COVID requires a little patience and flexibility. A worldwide pandemic caused a change of plans for our milestone birthdays and anniversaries this year. So while I would have loved to be sipping a Lava Flow on Kauai, all of our celebrations were at home or in COVID-safe environments nearby. The upside was that we finally were able to stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel which I've been eyeing for years. We stayed in October and December of this year and both were very positive experiences. The room was very clean, although the paint shows a bit of scuffing and wear. One little oddity is that there are phones in the bathroom and during our first stay the phone was missing (just the jack still present) and in our second room the phone was there. I vote for total removal. There were many COVID precautions in place and we felt very safe staying here. I was pleased that they still offered a modified wine hour and continental breakfast. On our first visit we received the wine at check-in to enjoy in our room. On our latest visit, wine hour was in the lobby and a staff member served you a selection of wine, cheese, crackers, grapes, and chocolate chip cookies. My biggest recommendation to guests is to choose an even numbered room if you would like the best view of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. The King Deluxe rooms have the bed, couch, and window seat along one wall, so odd numbered rooms face towards the marina and mouth of the Columbia River, and the even numbered room face the bridge when you are lying in bed or lounging on the couch or window seat. Our room had a small balcony and it is a very peaceful location. Because this is a pricey option in Astoria, I also recommend you get on their mailing list so you are aware of discounts and specials. Because of COVID, we never used the spa or fitness center, which requires a reservation for a 45-minute window, or the vintage chauffeur service. Right now the car service will pick-up food for you from downtown restaurants on Wed-Sun from 5 pm - 7 pm. A really nice touch. We had just a few minor delays in the check-in process, but overall were very happy with the attentiveness of the staff. Our December visit was especially enjoyable because of the lovely holiday decorations. We look forward to returning even when there isn't a pandemic. [1] At least this was the case for our King Deluxe rooms, so you can confirm the room layout/view when you check-in.

Casey J.

Yelp
Let's start with small rooms. Closet size for the price. Not comfortable. The furniture look to be out of the 40's. The fireplace did not work. It took 3 reminders to get someone to fix it. The hype just did not match what we saw. Next time we are just going to drive on through. Maybe we would have been better off looking to where they leave the lights on for you!

Yelp
We stayed here the week of July 11th and it was so beautiful. The rooms were so nice and the staff were very kind. We arrived from San Diego and wanted to stay close to where the goonies were filmed. We showed up for our check in an they told us they didn't have the two queen size beds. We instantly felt a panic because we have 2 kiddos and myself an hubby. Right away they told us they upgraded us to the suite that had a pull out couch, private bed room, an one of the best balconies ever. They had fresh baked cookies at 7 pm that my daughters were so excited to get. An we ended up getting delivery from a local pizza place and that was a mistake. Lol but the next morning the complimentary breaks fast was very good. They had a nepresso machine with different types of coffees, different options for healthy breakfast or just a good home style breakfast like bacon and eggs. We spent the rest of our night relaxing and watching tv as boats went by our window. We are very happy with our stay an if we ever come back we will stay again

Yelp
This beautifully updated renovated hotel, and spa is the perfect comfortable location here in Astoria, for travelers, who want all the comforts and welcome of a bed-and-breakfast, yet the spacious up dated baths and views and spaciousness of a well appointed room. The staff was wonderfully personable, accommodating and welcoming. Everyone did a great job to make my one night stay very comfortable.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay very much, The Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa. However, I must say that the sink was too high for me and the worst part was the coffee table had food crumbs from previous visitors. We also loved that our balcony was right over the Columbia river. It was wonderful seeing the ships go by and a beautiful sunset.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
This is an amazing boutique luxury hotel built on the Columbia River. Each room has a private balcony view of the river. The hotel provides impeccable service and comfort with a delicious breakfast of fresh food. The spa provides personalized service for a heavenly experience. My facial was wonderful.

Yelp
For Astoria Oregon, I love this place. What a fantastic story of the man who built it and was so proud of the finished product. He passed away September 2018 and you can feel him all around the place, amazing. Location: Incredible, all rooms face the water, lots of parking, restaurants within walking distance, Bridgewater Bistro is my recordation, but the hotel has car service to take you wherever in town. Rooms: pretty nice for Astoria Oregon. No, it is not a Four Seasons but the experience is fantastic. Value: dang, the rooms are a little pricy, oh but so what. If you're looking for a cheap room or Priceline value room keep driving. Staff: so friendly and nice, all we met knew the property so well and had a passion for where they work. Can't wait to visit again.

C C.

Yelp
Save your money! While the view is great and the property showed so much promise, the service provided was sub-par. When you pay over $500/night, you expect near perfection. Night one, we went to the bar/restaurant. There was ONE person working. The bar/restaurant was busy and the gal working was doing her best. HOWEVER, after waiting over 35 minutes for our plates, they were served COLD! We left immediately and reported the issue to the front desk. The first comment made was "oh sorry, we're understaffed". At $500+/night per room, how does that happen? I was told the GM would call the next morning. No such luck. The morning of Day 2 we go down to breakfast. What a shit show! No plates or forks, no bread, cold potatoes and ham and a "cook" that was just in and out. We left. I will say the night of the dinner issue I did get a medsage letting me know the GM was busy so he didn't have a chance to call. But they offered me free booze. Sorry guys...a $50 bottle of wine doesn't make up for the poor service at a hotel I spent over $1,000 at! Save yourself the heartache people and stay in Newport or Cannon Beach!

Dale M.

Yelp
This hotel has many rooms with good views of the Columbia, some with great views, and that is the good part. But there are significant weaknesses which make this property WAY overpriced. Like we do with all properties, my wife and I gave the Cannery Pier two shots, in case we just missed something on the first go-round. We didn't. First, there is next to NO ventilation in the rooms or the halls since the hotel was oriented mostly east-west, the prevailing winds are not channeled through the halls and rooms but blocked by the west end of the hotel. Thus the rooms tend to be stuffy most of the time, and can be absolutely unbearable in the summer heat! And, except for the front desk staff there is NO air conditioning!! I found this out the last time we were there: the temp was nice for the check-in staff, but our room was horribly hot. So don't get the idea of using the shower to cool off: the water pressure is weak, weak, weak. So they have all these fancy things like getting rides or picked up in a vintage car, or a wine bar, but they have failed with many of the basics. And to put up with these things at these prices??? The idea of a view property on the Columbia is a great one, but most of the hotels in the Gorge are right next to the train tracks or next to rocks or docks covered in stinky and obnoxiously loud sea lions. The Cannery Pier doesn't have those, but it's just grossly overpriced to have such glaring weaknesses. I suspect they're in business largely because of the endless parade of first-time visitors gushing over the view of the river. Fine, go for it. But be forewarned.

Yelp
This hotel is absolutely amazing. It's been completely remodeled and everything feels and smells brand new. There are high end fine touches throughout, from the furnishings to the lighting to the bathroom fixtures (the massage shower heads, claw foot tub) to the Pendleton blanket, cozy fireplace and window seat with binoculars. Most the photos don't do it justice. The views are fantastic. The service is excellent. There are lovely little extras everywhere you turn.

Sandra L.

Yelp
Amazing place!! Just spent our 35th anniversary there this weekend and had a great time! Staff was friendly, welcoming and always helpful! Breakfast was so good! Cookies in the evening were delicious! We didn't try Bar 600 but will add it to our next trip! This was our second stay and would definitely recommend and return!

Joan F.

Yelp
I don't love this place, even with its amazing views of the four mile wide Columbia and the working ships that glide past. The rooms are getting dated with chipped paint, frayed carpet and loose hinges on cabinets. The front desk managed to call us five times during our short stay. It was weird. The beds are super comfortable, and the sheets are my favorite kind of cotton sheets. The pillows are also comfortable. The large claw foot tub is a blessing! Still, it's unlikely I'll return--it's expensive and no longer worth the price tag to me. The staff was fine--I just expected more attention to detail for the price point. Staying in a hotel during a pandemic takes a lot of trust--I was wondering what other details were overlooked in a time when protocols and attention truly matter.

Yelp
Beautiful views and nice rooms. The view is what I woke up to and took it directly from the hotel bed. The service is a little rough. Came in with our dogs and felt like we had done something horribly wrong from the moment we walked in. They are pet friendly in the since that you can bring a dog but there is a separate pet entrance and the staff seemed rather grumpy. Full disclosure I booked my room online, called the same day to add on my dogs- thought everything was fine. Apparently I booked a non-dog friendly room but they had me in a room that is sometimes used as a pet friendly room... ultimately, if I am paying a 5 star price, I just would like 5 star service. However, I avoided the lobby the rest of the stay and the room was beautiful.

Yelp
New ownership doesn't seem to care about the community. I used to stay here once a year even though I live in Astoria, just to enjoy the views, the spa and the lovely staff. The hotel is under new ownership and it appears the new corporate overlords decided to fire the entire spa staff with zero notice this week. Their excuse was that they needed to close for renovation work (yet everyone knows that would have been scheduled in advance, contractors here are booked months out, therefore notice could have been given if that was their real reason, duh). BUT instead of giving any notice, they continued to book appointments and sell gift certificates for services. The community members who were fired were probably counting on the bookings for the next couple of weeks for their income, like anyone in that industry would. I used to work as a massage therapist at a fancy hotel spa and there is no excuse for this kind of treatment. I urge you to try staying at the Hotel Elliot or Crest Motel (they have a sweet hot tub with a panoramic view of the river!) PS. I hate leaving a negative review. I used to love staying here but I don't know of a better way to support the staff then to tell their story and recommend that visitors stay elsewhere. The staff deserves better than this.. ugh!

Yelp
When this hotel was built, it was stunning! No doubt about it. But it has become tired and worn. Afresh coat of paint would do much to improve it. The room upholstery needs help, the hard surfaces in the bathroom were stained because it appears they've never or infrequently been resealed. Our room needs a deep clean in the worst way. Not what we expected for over $300 per night. The vintage Rolls Royce out front is nice to look at but I'd rather see some updates.

Yelp
The room was fantastic! I was right on the water and had a pair of bald eagles right outside in the morning on my last day.  The room itself was very nice.  It felt very luxurious with the claw foot tub and large separate shower. The spa and sauna were a pleasant treat.  The staff was a little contradictory when it came to information on the spa but we figured it out on our own and it was great to unwind.  The evening social hour was also a nice touch and the staff working those events were incredibly kind and accommodating for our large group One of the only downside was the breakfast, which was mediocre.  The spread included mostly baked goods, including DIY waffles, which I didn't try.   The fresh fruit was only okay, although that is expected for a winter stay I guess.  Not terrible by any means, just not as good as other breakfasts at cheaper hotels. One other thing to note is that on a foggy night, expect to be woken up by really loud fog horns from barges passing right by the window.  Our last night had several barges blaring their horns starting at 2:40am! Even ear plugs didn't help some folks in our group. I suppose it comes with the location though. Regarding the price/value, we stayed at a discounted rate so I'm not sure how the full price value would compare.  This is definitely a step up from your typical hotel so I imagine it is worth the price if the rooms are around $175 /night. More than that and you should probably take advantage of all of the amenities if you can.

Yelp
Have been coming here for 10+years, a much better value before the pandemic and when people didn't really know about it. Renovations are very nice and staff are always helpful, hence the 5 stars, but way over priced now, even in off season. Rooms are nice with fantastic views and ok beds, AC a definite plus. Spa services and happy hour are out of touch. Give me the option to opt in or out for the cost you are including in my stay for a couple glasses of meh happy hour wine at best. If you checked in late they used to just hand you a bottle at check in and be thankful for your business. Bar 600 is a very welcomed addition, but closing at 9 is disappointing... This hotel seemingly has an identity crisis, cater to those who dine at 5 and retire at 9 or sell some very expensive drinks to those of us willing to stay up for libations and take in the Columbia at night next to the fireplace. Whatever you decide, I will always love this place... Best view on the Columbia for certain, love watching the ship traffic.

Yelp
My wife and I took a 25th anniversary trip down the coast and decided to make the CPH a pit stop for a night in October. The advertised normal rate was $575 on hotels.com (and many other third party sites) with a sale price of $199. The third party sites are deceptive as the only room that sells for $575 is the pilot house (penthouse). Guess they want you to think you're getting a really good deal. We stayed in a standard room with a king bed. The hotel staff were friendly upon check in and our room was ready right at 4 pm. They gave us a choice of floors - we picked the 4th floor for the view. The room was very clean. There were a couple of touches that were especially nice. The bathroom had a claw foot tub with a pass through opening so you could sit and look out the windows at the view. Also, there was a window seat with a nice blanket and binoculars for bird or boat watching. The bed was a very comfortable pillow top. They offered courted rides into town in an antique car. There's a complimentary wine and cheese party daily from 5-7 pm (they also offer crackers and soft drinks free). Finally, an even more obscure touch - the velvet like headboard had been hand combed into a pattern (check it out). You really don't get those touches in normal hotels. So why not 5 stars, so far they have definitely earned it? So...the one thing missing from the room was air conditioning. There was a gas fireplace and wall heater ever present - but there was no way we needed (or could use either) as the room was HOT. And this in in October on a 50 degree day. They do provide a box fan for the window. I didn't sleep hardly at all - we had to prop the door open to the balcony with a chair and run the fan (it was still too warm). We are wondering if it's because we were on the 4th floor and collecting heat from below? It's a mystery in room 409 I guess. I'm closing - it's a very nice property and a major value at $199. Would I stay there again, maybe. We just couldn't get over the room temperature. If not for that, we would be definitely be back, if not regulars.

Yelp
We came here on our honeymoon 12 years ago and it was lovely. We came 4 years ago and it needed an update. This weekend we went and it has been updated. The remodel turned out really well. We enjoyed our stay and would come back. The walk into town is lovely, we enjoyed happy hour and breakfast was tasty. It's worth the rate. Would return.

Yelp
Purchased a gift card for my wife and her mother to get massages. And to be clear, these are some of the most expensive massage rates in the region so I expected them to have an amazing experience. Instead the massages weren't very good and the masseuse insisted on carrying on a conversation the entire time. Was told she was very nice but that just wasn't the relaxing experience expected for this very expensive gift. The main reason I'm giving this one star review is that I sent a message to the spa well over a week ago about this and haven't received any response. I would say, save your money and get a cheaper more relaxing spa experience elsewhere.

Yelp
This was my first stay at Cannery Pier. It was perfect for our getaway. I want to do a shout out to the hotel for still doing the happy hour and breakfast during Covid. They could have cancelled it but instead, it was boxed or bagged up and so you could enjoy it in your room. I love that they made the effort to figure this out and the gal running happy hour and breakfast was so nice! I would have done 5 stars but there was one worker at the front desk that needed a better attitude. Otherwise it was all fantastic.

Yelp
I believe in my many, many times on the Oregon Coast as personally relevant as they may be over the last 26 years that Cannery simply has one of the finest rooms that I have guested. I feel that generally this hotel can be slightly pretentious in its attitude and I believe even slightly inclined towards the "upper class". Let's be honest. We were treated as paying guests, beyond that, nothing more. I think this is important to note. However, beyond fancy and class was an exceptionally well thought out room. It was comfortable, different (in the best way possible), and luxurious without being ludicrously loud. The bed was perfect for soft and firm sleepers, being both, we slept well. The view was breathtaking as it is on the pier and you can look straight down and see the waves. They offer a personal town car which books up quickly so grab it ASAP if you want a night on the town. Cannery is on a pier so if you are a smoker you will need to walk out to the road. There are no exceptions here. I am a smoker and I didn't mind the short walk away from the hotel. It's a beautiful walk and there is dinning within walking distance. Everything was clean and fresh and open. The bathroom was the type of bathroom that you wish you could build in your home. Very well done. The towels were fresh and clean without the linger of bleach. Certainly romantic. Certainly fine. The price tag is high but I am pretty sure that once you settle in the room, you will feel money well spent.

Yelp
Your paying for the view which is really nice. Everything else about the hotel reminded me of a mid range holiday inn. I'm not sure the view alone justifies the price.

Yelp
A friend recommended this hotel and my only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We arrived too late for the wine reception but the assistant at the desk checking us in made sure we got 2 glasses of Pinot noir to bring up to our room. The room was wonderful-spacious and has a fireplace and a window seat that let me relax while watching ships glide by on the river. The fluffy robes were welcome on a cool and rainy night, and we enjoyed cookies and coffee in front of the fire before bed.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel built by the late Jake Jacobs. I have stayed here on two occasions (and planned one a year indefinitely) before Vesta Hospitalities bought the hotel, after Jake's passing. Don west is the G.M. of this hotel now and decided to fire his entire spa staff with no notice. Leaving local families with no income without the decency of two days notice let alone two weeks. Employers expect employees to give two weeks notice, do you not hold yourself to the same standard Mr. West? We will no longer be visiting this hotel or The Astoria Crest which Mr. West owns. What a shame, that such a local pride has been taken over by corporate goons, with no sense of human decency. We see what you did, Mr. West. Small towns have long memories. Looking to stay in Astoria? Spend your dollars at a hotel that values its community, what made this place special is obviously going to the wayside. https://www.dailyastorian.com/news/local/cannery-pier-hotel-closes-spa-services/article_1c376c76-51f0-11ea-871a-1bb8267ec01c.html?fbclid=IwAR344AaLqz8GEzwXOu8daOivHiy0yoWtiMrRLJVEFPd4C3oj8HaDUImrDwM

Yelp
What an amazing hotel right on the Columbia River. I received texts before we came asking if they could help in any way with our stay. Check in was easy, staff was very accommodating and helpful, breakfast was delicious and the rooms were fabulous. Ken our chauffeur for both nights was wonderful. He gave suggestions for dinner and he was right on!!!!

Yelp
Decided to take a somewhat "spur of the moment" trip to Astoria. Used Yelp to find this gem!! Perfect location. Amazing views. Large and spacious room. Claw foot tub, now I'm not normally a "take a bath in a hotel person" but we decided to give it a whirl. Lovely. Piping hot water and space for two The hotel feels new-ish. They serve complimentary wine and snacks at 5pm. One of the best perks is free transportation to the restaurant of your choice. We chose the Silver Salmon Grille (review to follow). The front desk staff arranged our pick-up from the hotel....Spence was our driver in the '48 Mercury..... and they took care of our dinner reservation as well. When Spence dropped us off he handed us a 10% off coupon!! Dinner was excellent and the waiter called for our pick up once we were ready to go. A good morning send off of coffee, waffles, fruit and oatmeal!! Loved this place. Staff were excellent. Friendly!!

Yelp
We had a wonderful two night stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa soon after they reopened from Covid closure. We were welcomed warmly and taken care of wonderfully by everyone there. The GM personally delivered our breakfasts and wine reception to our room, complying with restrictions while still giving excellent guest service. The room was clean and comfortable. Awesome river views from the balcony and everywhere in the room including the cozy claw foot tub! Pretty cool watching huge cargo ships pass outside your window!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, excellent views, courteous staff! We had several family members here at once about 7 rooms in total, for a birthday party celebration. We returned from dinner out to enjoy a very nice gathering room on the 2nd floor. The staff was very pleasant and courteous to us. I definitely recommend this place!! Especially for a get together or a date night. The rooms are very clean, comfortable bed, large soaking tub with view to Bay.

Yelp
I stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel about a year ago. I just realized I never posted my review! Well... The service, impeccable. The room, incredible. The location, unbeatable. Everything about this hotel makes me want to return, and I can assure you I will. What I liked best: 1. Dick, the hotel chauffeur/wine pourer/Astoria historian, might have been my favorite part about the whole experience. 2. Need to get somewhere? They have 2 vintage cars, ready to take you, and pick you up, anywhere in the city after 5:00pm. 3. Every room has an outdoor deck overlooking the mouth of the Columbia river and the beautiful bridge, with frequent passerby of mammoth ships. 4. Each room has a large bathroom, equipped with a large shower, and clawfoot bathtub. Perfect for soaking in after a day spent visiting historic landmarks and the various breweries. What I liked least: 1. That I couldn't have stayed longer. 2. That I didn't bring my dog to enjoy the insanely awesome pet amenities

Yelp
Um wow. So my sweet grandmother took me here for a few nights and paid out the nose for us to stay in the Pilot's suite. Stained floors, stained walls, dirty couch, no extra blankets available, doors wouldn't close, shower heads made a super high pitched squeaking when running, the whole place seemed extremely out of date for what she paid. Great view! Beautiful healing view, but wow. I honestly feel bad for my gramma. We also threw alot of money at massages. Our masseuse and spa host were extremely gracious but personally my massage was horrible, and by horrible I mean just not a massage. It was literally oiled touching of my back and arms and after a 2 hour drive I could have used a decent massage. Wish I could say this review was a pissed off exaggeration but it's not. Lobby host couldn't be bothered to bring up anything we needed. The answer to all of our questions was "Covid". Totally underwhelming. Hope the hotel considers giving my grandmother some sort of refund and allows someone under 40 to renovate the entire establishment.

Yelp
A superior experience. Great staff, great historic location, great ambience. This boutique hotel is actually a refurbished old-timey Cannery on the pier situated directly above the water (yes, at sea level!) overlooking a picturesque bridge on the coastal border of Oregon and Washington. They have brilliantly classy antique chauffeur-driven automobiles that spirit you to restaurants in nearby Astoria, just reserve at check-in. Furnishings are tastefully "coastal", with muted minimalist flavor beige and complimentary warm tones. Romantic getaway galore!

Yelp
On the short drive from Portland to Seattle during our Pacific Northwest vacation we made an overnight stop here. Perfect. It felt like it had been there for years in spite it's new construction. The room couldn't have been more comfortable. Spacious with a balcony and view of the bridge and Washington mountains. Wine and cheese offering in the evening, a vintage car and driver to take you to dinner and back, yep! If you're looking to rest for the evening or stay a few, don't hesitate...you won't regret it.

Yelp
This was our 6th stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel, every year we are delighted by our stay. It starts with the staff, wonderful group of people. They are very accommodating and tries really hard to make your stay special. The facility is wonderful. Since it sits at the end of pier, it is very quiet aside from the occasional sound of a giant freighter sounding its horn as it glides by. Every room has amazing views of the river, the lobby/atrium is styled like the old cannery. The facility is in excellent condition. The afternoon wine is refreshing and the morning breakfast is light but fresh and high quality. The hotel is a bit expensive; however, its worth it. I will be back.....

Yelp
My wife and I visited Astoria at the end of October for a relaxing weekend away, and CPH was the perfect place to stay. The suite was adequately sized, and amenities like a Jacuzzi tub and king size bed helped with the relaxation. The incredible view of the bay and the bridge outside our window didn't hurt matters, either. We love the little details, like comfortable common gathering areas (on main and second floors), which also served as eating areas for the continental breakfast and afternoon hors d'oeuvres & wine. The fresh baked cookies every evening at 8:00 was also a nice treat. We didn't get a chance to take advantage of the vintage limos or the old fashioned bicycles, but we hope to come back another time to make use of those complimentary services. We had dry weather during our visit, so we chose to walk to all of our destinations -- there are a few dining options in close proximity to CPH, and the Astoria Riverwalk will take you to downtown in a matter of minutes, depending on your walking pace. Our stay was both relaxing and memorable, and we hope to be back soon.

Yelp
Ok, first off the hotel was very clean and nice. The staff were good. The wine and cheese was great. The view was excellent. We were also amazed with the room... Now the bad. I posted 3 pictures of the bed we had in our room. the bed had 2 areas that were so sunk in and uneven it was unacceptable. I need to reiterate, This was unacceptable. To even have a room with such a worn out mattress and charge anyone for that is irresponsible of any hotel. The pictures do not lie. You can clearly see 2 areas where the mattress collapsed already. How would anyone get a good night sleep? it was horrible... we would not recommend this hotel to anyone that wanted a good night sleep. The hotel needs to replace the bad mattresses and right away. We were so disappointed. We had waited for months for our vacation and to stop here due to the great view of the river. We did enjoy our wine on the small patio we had. The great view and wonderful sunset. It was amazing. We only wish the hotel would take some time to insure the quality of the rooms. We will not let this hotel dampen our vacation..

Yelp
We stayed for two nights as a year-end getaway, and our only complaint is that we didn't stay longer. The newly refurbished hotel is quite splendid and abounds with thoughtful design and convenience touches, but what really sets the Cannery Pier apart is the staff. Everyone exhibited a perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism, and made us feel truly welcome. The newly expanded hot breakfasts were delicious, as were the appetizers served at the daily wine receptions. This was out first visit, but we're already planning our next. One of our three favorite hotels in the U.S. (the others being the Waldorf Astoria and Hotel del Coronado). Not cheap, but a wonderful and memorable experience.

Yelp
Poor customer service. They couldn't even get our guest confirmation reservation correct after sending an email and calling. I left two messages for the general manager to call me regarding the fiasco and I never received a return call. We canceled our reservation after reading some negative reviews. We have stayed there once before and loved it, but apparently it is under new management. We probably won't be returning.

Yelp
Great place to stay with excellent views from your room and friendly service from the staff. Complimentary breakfast with hard boiled eggs, assorted breads, juices, cereals, waffles, etc. The rooms are great. They have separate bath and shower and the toilet is in its own sub-bathroom. They have a 1962 Chevy Impala shuttle car to take you to the local establishments and will even pick you up until 10pm. That being said, everything seemed within walking distance to me.

Yelp
I came here for a solo getaway to clear my head, and I couldn't have picked a better place to do so. Generally when I go to the coast I spend very little time in my room; I'm all about spending time outdoors and exploring the towns. This time, however, was different. The room was so comfortable and the view so amazing I found myself spending most of my time sitting by the window watching the ships go by, drawing, and soaking in the amazing claw foot tub. The bed was very comfortable (lots of pillows!), the room was spacious, and the view is indescribably gorgeous. It was incredible to be lying in bed and suddenly see a ship the size of an airplane pass right outside the window! Low tide was around midnight when I stayed here, and on my last night I stood on the balcony and watched a blue heron graze right below me and heard sea lions coming up for air. I later went downstairs to the lobby's deck to get a better view. I also visited the spa during my stay and it was also lovely. I got the "walk on the beach" package, and left feeling incredibly relaxed and with silky smooth skin. The only unfortunate thing about a hotel on a pier is the smell during low tide. It's not a deal-breaker and doesn't last for long, but when the tide is out the marshy area under the hotel is exposed and it smells pretty fishy. Like I said, nothing unbearable, but if you're sensitive to that sort of thing I would recommend bringing a scented candle or diffuser.
