Cañon de la Vieja Lodge

First ⭐ they offer what could be a full day of fun. Second ⭐ the staff were pleasant and seemed interested if we're having a good time, Third ⭐ the food, although start buffet style was tasty, the meat was a bit over cooked but tasty. Took away two ⭐⭐ because they refuse after we paid to give us what we paid for. Eventful, I wouldn't go back there are other places to see and stay.

Disappointing. Cabins full of large ants and ant larvae. Daily chemical spraying doesn’t help, except create more of a mess. Cabins otherwise quite dated, but large and with AC. The setting, along the river, is nice and the hot springs provide relief. The private hanging bridge is a nice touch. Rafting and tubing weren’t possible due to rainfall in the mountains. Breakfast was mediocre, and service poor. Food and drinks in wet bar and restaurant quite decent value for money. Renovating accommodations and upgrading breakfast would go a long way!

We had a great time enjoying all of the adventures here! The staff were kind and our rafting guides earned generous tips! The ziplines were long, fast, and fun! We set up our trip here through Conchal Fun but the simplistic and eco setting of their lodging looked|Like a very serene relaxing setting!

From all hotels/lodges visited in Costa Rica this is the one we liked least, although it is still ok overall. It had a rustic feel to it, at certain points it felt a bit neglected. OK for a shorter stay.||The positives:|- Nice pool including a pool bar plus natural pools near the river|- Roomy setup of the cabins in the park, lots of privacy|- Good base to explore Rincon de la Vieja National Park which is definitely worthwhile visiting|- Prices were ok|- Fine buffet style breakfast and nice location where breakfast was served|- Possibility to spot animals onsite e.g. lizards, squirrels, birds...||The negatives:|- Not possible to add anything you consume to a final bill and pay this at the end of your stay upon checkout, like one would expect. Everything has to be settled directly, be it breakfast, drinks at the pool bar or any meals. Not relaxing and keeps you busy.|- Slow service, pool bar often without staff and not very customer oriented in general (eg: after a thunderstorm the wifi was down and payment by credit card no longer worked; despite this staff insisted on immediate payment (in cash), although we were staying for more days)|- Food geared towards tourists, standard fare, not creative or authentic, not great quality|- Very isolated location, no minimarket or possibility to buy water, fruit, snacks onsite or nearby; no restaurants and shops nearby, you need a car to get anywhere|- Children's playground was sad to see, broken play equipment

Service is really poor, mud bath and hot springs are average. lunch is not great I would avoid.

Great place to visit and stay. Have a lot of options from rafting to horseback riding. Great place

10 of us where shuttled here from our resort in Tamarindo. The girl at the tour desk told us 40 min to reach the lodge (1 hr 45 min but thats another story). The horses were adequate. We own our own horses so I was already to back out if the horses appeared abused but a little underfed but they were fine. My husband had the only lively one in the bunch. The 5 person only suspension bridge to the corrals was total unsafe due to the rusted parts. The non English speaking horse wranglers motioned for us to get off by the river and left us. Half the group went the wrong way. Next was the river tubing. By far the highlight of our vacation. We laughed so much. With that said, the 2 employees who led us spoke no English and basic instruction on how to tuck legs in etc would have been welcomed. Next was zip line. The whole tour we felt rushed but zip line was the worst. The photographer kept saying "hurry up " or "get going" the whole time. He was completely rude. Thankfully we were a group who had seen it all. The zip line leaders were sending people thru before the previous person was clear. Nerve-wracking. A few of the platforms and stairs were almost rusted through. Accident waiting to happen. The mud baths were fine. We weren't allowed to do the rock climbing/rappelling. God forbid we spend more time. No comments on why, just rushed us through. Overall not a bad day but lacking many safety standards. We did not stay overnight but the cabins looked cute

Nice hotel/lodge. Rooms and facilities slightly outdated but fairly good maintained. Staff and crew are doing there utmost best. Food in the restaurant is perfect!!!
