Google
Pure tourist trap place. Dishes are not well prepared, spaggetti with sea food was a joke, lazagnia was full with tomato juice. Only deserts were good. But at the end they cut our heads with the bill. Service 20%, but aperol cost us 19 EU each!.

Google
Total tourist trap, avoid! On top of a service charge and very slow service, they asked if we wanted our hot drinks small or large, even though nothing on the menu mentioned different sizes or different prices. Naturally, we chose large, thinking it was just the normal amount of coffee… and they ended up charging us double. We paid €22 for a latte and a croissant. If you see this place and the sun is shining, don’t stop there.there are much cheaper and better options right next door.

Google
This is prime real estate location and they know it. So, the prices are jacked up on everything. 0ne cappuccino is 8 euro. A small dish of fresh strawberries is 10 euro without cream. Service is 8.55 euro. IVA charge is 4.87 euro. Total charge for 2 is 53.55 euro. That’s the basic rate for a small breakfast stop and a great view of Piazza del Popolo from this gorgeous restaurant

Google
What an amazing place. Like OMG the food was soooo good, where it’s at just beautiful especially the outside seating defiantly must try 😍

Google
Loved it! We happened across this place while wandering and liked it so much that we went back again. Our food and beverages came quickly and were of very good taste and quality. The waiter was very kind and even took the time to teach me just a little Italian. The 1st time we visited, there were singers performing in the Piazza, but unfortunately not the 2nd time. The mood was relaxed and eating outside gave a wonderful view!

Google
Had low expectations to begin with, but we needed to eat and it was nearby. But this was under all critique. To start with the food was very bland and did not live up to the price tag. It seemed like our waiter forgot to ring our order in and tried to pass it off with a laugh and blaming the chef for forgetting it. It took us almost an hour to get our food after ordering… The prices are also insanely high with an espresso costing 6€, a coke 9€ and a Peroni 12€! People say you pay for the location, but that is not a good enough excuse when you can walk 2 minutes away and find a better place.

Jack W.

Google
I see reviews with complaints over prices, but the prices are on the menu before you order, so no surprises. We ordered two pasta entrees at €20 each, house red at €12/glass. The entrees and wine were good quality. Tiramisu was €14. Total bill for two was €100. We were right off the plane from the US and are on vacation. We live in Nashville and are used to high prices in tourist areas. This place was close to our hotel and we were hungry. English is not always spoken in Rome, and if so, it’s still iffy. Google translate is your friend 😂.

Google
DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT GET DISTRACTED BY THE PRETTY VIEW OF PIAZZA DEL POPOLO. This place is the definition of a scam, and the servers know exactly what they are doing. I did not think it was possible for coffee prices in Italy to be so inflated due to location. We had 2 cappuccinos, 2 juices, a water and a brioche and when the bill came it was €70. Just ridiculous. The coffee was bad, and service was worse. Our server spilled half of our bottle of water and still charged us for it promising “a free one next time you visit”. When she saw my shock at the bill she had the nerve to touch my arm and say “I know, we are expensive, don’t worry the tip is not included but you don’t have to tip me this time”… absolutely unbelievable.

Yelp
Where do you go after a day of walking through the Roman colosseum? Canova that's where! I might be missing something because I truly loved Canova the pizza was soo good! I was a bit confused when I read the negative reviews but could only chalk it up to the fact that they were all old reviews. You can really taste the difference in fresh ingredients when you compare it to a pizza back in the states. The pizza leaves you full but without the feeling of lethargy which also speaks to the quality of the food. I had a great view to the city at night and had a lot of fun taking in all the sights. They were fairly busy but had no issue getting sat at a table, and the service was decent as well. I would definitely come back.

Alessandro B.

Yelp
The worst cafe I have ever visited in my life. In front of a taxi station, 33 euros for two cappuccinos and two croissants. Stay far away from this cafeteria.

Lori P.

Yelp
Worse meal in Rome! Had the ravioli and could swear it came out of a Chef Boyardee can. Couldn't even gag it down. My husband got the lasagna and a salad which was mediocre at best. Meal cost us 86 euros! Yikes! They added on their own service/tip charge which was pretty expected, but annoying. Workers literally stood in the doorway of the restaurant vaping 100% of the time we were there. There's SO many nice little restaurants around, skip this one!

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner at Canova after a tour (the drop off was Piazza del Popolo). Service was quick and friendly. We dined outdoors with a view of the piazza. It was late, so we shared dishes. Everything was well cooked and tasty.

Richard H.

Yelp
We stopped at Canova for a quick bite since my husband is diabetic and needed lunch and a tour break. We were so disappointed with the overpriced salad and rigatoni (pasta right out of a box). During our meal, a server brought two drinks which we refused since we had not ordered them. We were charged for them anyway! We were also charged for the service and the waiter suggested we could also leave a tip. We were short on time so I didn't really look at the bill until later, that's when I realized that we had been overcharged by at least $40. Tourist beware!

Wisemarko ..

Yelp
Tourist trap. €12 for glass of house wine. Mediocre food that is overpriced and expectations for tip!

Jake T.

Yelp
Only bad meal we had in Rome. The pizza tasted like one you would get from an amusement park and the cacio y Pepe was the worst from the trip. The aperol tasted like straight aperol. Great location and outdoor seating gives it its only star.
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
No no no. Tourist trap with large service charge on all checks and food is horrible. Pizza made me feel like o was back in America - yes, extra cheese and just plain bad. Caesar salad was far worse. Caesar would not be pleased, trust me. Never come here.
google avatar

Yelp
This wouldn't have been my first choice for lunch... but location is important! And we were hot and hungry. The outside area is great for people watching, but also puts you sitting RIGHT next to others and breathing in their smoke, which I don't love. The food was fresh and good. I wouldn't rush back, but I wouldn't avoid this place either. Service was good... until it was time to leave. We couldn't find a waitperson to help us at all. We went inside to pay and were told to go back outside to pay... we finally got the bill settled, about 10 minutes after we were ready to go.

Yelp
The food was good and service was fine. However be careful with their dishonesty in overcharging and surcharges. I won't be going there again.

Yelp
We came with our tour group and the staff was amazing as we enjoyed a night of dining and dancing. The sauteed vegetables were very good, the lemon butter ravioli was also very good. We thought the tomato ziti and the veal were ok but not great. The rum whipped cream cake was good and the coffee was great. The best part of the evening was our own room for tour group, dancing and our own piano player.

Yelp
Canova is a good way to start the day. We grabbed some coffee and croissants. They had a lot of pastries, danishes, and croissants to choose from it was really hard to decide. I ended up just deciding to keep it simple not sure about how the day may turn out. The coffee was hot and refreshing but I was expecting a bigger cup for 4 euros. They know they are the only spot open that early so they can charge that type of money. I noticed they have a lunch menu, dinner menu and of course gelato too. It looks like a great place to have dinner at night with the beautiful Piazza del Popolo to enjoy.

Yelp
This is another great place to people-watch, but it is a tourist trap. We ordered the pizza funghi (10€), spaghetti frutti di Mare (14€), scaloppa in crosta (22€), and a glass of chardonnay (7€). We could have eaten cheaper elsewhere, but we wanted to just relax and people-watch at Piazza del Popolo. Service was horrible. We were seated right away yet it took forever for the waiter to take our order. I had a nagging feeling there was a discriminatory thing that went on. If only I were fluent in Italian, I would have raised a ruckus. I just chose NOT to pick this battle. I was so tempted not to leave a tip! We got back by taking our sweet time with our meal even though there were others who were waiting to be seated. We could have stayed longer but a couple from a nearby table started to light up. I could only suffer so much secondhand smoke...grrrr!!!! In a nutshell: great outdoor seating, delicious yet pricey food, horrible service.

Yelp
I'm not sure why they have such low rating, I loved this place! My husband and I spent a couple of hours per night here after dinner when we were in Roma. We always picked outside sitting, to enjoy the view and their nice selections of wine. The service that we received had been decent; although we didn't order any food (only drinks), the servers still gave us snacks like potato chips and olives. They also provide free Wifi that actually worked quite well; we did so much researches while we were sitting there. I do highly recommend this place if you want to have a glass of wine and chill, especially when there's light rains... romantic view.

Yelp
Our first sit down Italian restaurant. We ordered spaghetti alla carbonara, fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and zucchini and pizza 4 formaggi. My Mom and I finished our plates of pasta and my daughter who's very picky also loved the fettuccine because the noodles were freshly made and she also had 2 slices of the pizza (she's 4). Too bad we didn't have room for dessert...maybe next time/tomorrow! The restaurant is conveniently located at Piazza del Popolo and our waiter was very kind! We made a mistake of sitting outside because of the smokers (we're from NY and smoking is banned on most places but have designated areas). The inside is so clean and really nice...I should make a mental note for tomorrow's lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Great stop for some drinks or a quick lunch. The only problem is the prices that went really high in the last months after they were bought out by the restaurant across the road.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Location was okay, like everyone else mentioned. If you sit outside, though, there's a bunch of taxis parked in front, and you smell the exhaust throughot your meal. It is right next to and has a view of Piazza Popoli though. Food was terrible: got the fettucine with prawns, and the prawns tasted really strangely old and chewy. The whole dish was too salt, as was my fiance's seafood spaghetti (also, his spaghetti was still hard). Service is okay-- food came out in a timely manner. They weren't warm, but they weren't rude either.
google avatar

Sunny Y.

Yelp
Had lunch here and got sat outside, which was great because you got an awesome view of people-watching on the streets of Rome. The food was just mediocre. We ordered the seafood pasta and prosciutto pizza. The seafood pasta was good but nothing to rave about. The prosciutto pizza was the same -I enjoyed it because I love prosciutto but it wasn't anything that would make me want to go back the next day or anything that I would say was special to Italy (I've had the same, if not better, in the US) Prices were around $15 so overall I would say this place is good if you're just looking for a convenient place with a good location, but you'll prob get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

Yelp
The food was good. Grilled meat and Chicken tasted good. BUT the ridiculous thing was that two COKE ZERO 33cl costs 13 EUR !!! We thought it was a joke but it's true. A Double Espresso costs 6 EUR Beware ;)

Yelp
Came here mainly because I had went sightseeing at the piazza del popolio and the place is literally right there. Say right outside as most do and while it is very beautiful setting, the only negative is that a nice size wind blows about every 10-15 minutes knocking and blowing stuff all over the place. I do like the fact that they do give you chips and olives while you wait for your food as it seem like most places do in Rome. For my meal I had the rigatoni and a order of the Lemon chicken. Both were ok, nothing special. The only thing that saved this meal was the jar of peppercino cheese try give to you on the side (real similar to Parmesan cheese). Overall to me this is more of a grab a table and have a drink while overlooking the piazza type place as suppose to this great restaurant.

Yelp
I'm detecting a trend on our Italian trip this summer. I'm hardly a bon vivant. But, it seems that some Americans are looking for the Olive Garden at Woodfield Mall. This place is great for people watching. I did not think the taxis were an issue. The food is good. I found the servers very warm and friendly. But, I'm just naturally very charming. My daughter lost her phone here one night. She returned and they had it. The desserts were good - berries and cream, zabaglione. Pasta carbonara was very good. Veal limone quite good. Good lasagna. My son and daughter enjoyed the spaghetti and clams. As for sitting next to others smoking? THIS IS EUROPE! Some people smoke. Again, doesn't bother me. And, this is how people are seated here. Again, I'm not claiming to be any jet setter. But, I just don't know what people expect when traveling to a different continent, country, culture.

Molly F.

Yelp
The food was exceptional but I must leave one star due to dishonesty on the price. I get the bill and they charged me a $8 "servizio" (service) fee. In Italy of course, taxes/tips are included in the price on the menu. When I questioned it they said it was a 15% service fee, which is not something charged in Italian restaurants. I guess because I'm American they think I'm stupid. But because they had already ran the card and I was sick with a cold, I didn't feel like fighting it any further. Go here for good food but be warned about the dishonesty.
google avatar

Katelin G.

Yelp
Ugggh if only I could put a zero stars. Food is ok. Nothing amazing. The service is horrible and the staff rude. We have had really good experiences everywhere in Rome so far but this place not at all. Go across the plaza. We really liked that one.

Yumiko N.

Yelp
This place is a tourist trap. First of all, why do they even offer a Caesar salad? We ordered it because we wanted some type of salad and just wanted to try how they would make it because yes we know it's not Italian. They just put some veggies together and added carrots?? I give them credit for adding real anchovies but all in all it was worse than Olive Garden. My Cacio e Pepe was so salty I could not eat it. And I think they put some flour or cornstarch in the sauce because it was really clumpy. The seafood pasta my partner ordered was good. His came out hot mine was cold and I have a thing about having my food HOT! All in all this place is not worth it. Just go down the street and you'll probably find a better place in the alley. It was way overpriced for the crappy food. People say you're in Rome anything you eat will be good. Uhhhh no I don't think so...there's plenty of bad food in Rome. Just choose wisely. We did not this time.

Yelp
Great location. Wifi code is "california". Not overly friendly waiters. See photos with full explanation.
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
Come here for a drink at the bar or sit at the tables and enjoy a light meal. The setting is nearly perfect. Buy a Cuban cigar. Go outside and smoke it. Be a Roman if only for a moment.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Very friendly wait staff. Spoke English and put up with us trying to pronounce the menu in Italian! Food was good, coffee was great and the view was excellent.
google avatar

Maja Z.

Yelp
Food was disaster, as you can see on my photos, especially considering prices. (old bread burned in toaster with mozzarella and prosciutto is called Roman pizza )Compared to other restaurants in Rome would definitely not recommend. Also staff wasn't friendly at all. Only positive thing is location.
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
Oh so Dolce Vita! Make sure you have a fabulous outfit or at the very least some fabulous sunglasses. Sit outside on the piazza of this famous cafe and watch Vespas speed by as you sip a Campari Soda... You will be offered a gorgeous array of nibbles for apperitivo hour as you watch the sun set. You get the picture. Or maybe you're IN the picture! Ciaooooooo!

Victoria L.

Yelp
Bad, really bad. One of the dishes we ordered (pasta with shellfish) smelled so horrible that we had to move it to another table. Paid for it of course, even though my friend tried it and realized that it wasn't fresh. Service is terrible, prices are high, so bad bad bad
google avatar

Shari L.

Yelp
I expected to pay extra for the beautiful setting, but would have liked a decent cappuccino to go with it.

Daniel P.

Yelp
This place is for the birds, literally!!! Pigeons on the tables, poor food and sub-par service. If you are looking for a great place. Face the restaurant and go have dinner at the restaurant next door on your right hand side.
google avatar

Toni G.

Yelp
Two stars only for location. Prices were too high and quality was was only fair. We had the lasagna and it lacked flavor. The prosciutto with melon was a mess of meat tossed on a slice of melon--no attempt at eye appeal. The bisteca was nothing special either. I recommend grabbing coffee here to watch the people, but dine elsewhere.

Tony P.

Yelp
Family four on vacation. Had chef choice mixed fish and bone steak. Both great choices with potatoes and greens. Steak specifically was cooked perfect and we are from Texas, we have tasted beef couple of times over the years. Great location in plazza del poppolo.

Heidi L.

Yelp
I saw bad reviews of the service on Yelp, but I figured there wouldn't be any harm in getting food on the go. I called twice to be sure they opened at 7. My group arrived on the dot and they were still setting up. We waited as they frantically set up and then when we finally ordered the guy behind the counter wouldn't make what I ordered. I asked the woman I had paid and he ended up yelling at her. He should be embarrassed. My entire group felt awkwardly about the sovenisitic way he behaved and agreed it deserved a bad review.

Eli S.

Yelp
Nice place to people watch in Rome on Piazza del Popolo. Great inexpensive food with full bar and drinks. Also they have ala carte buffet. Solid 4.

Joe I.

Yelp
Food was good but we were overcharged big time. It was our first day in Italy so we knew no better. Maybe because we spoke English and no Italian, they saw us coming . Since then, we have awesome meals at fair prices. Our favorite place so far , Ristorante Ambasciata Di Capri. Crazy good food, amazing service and reasonably priced !
google avatar

Phil E.

Yelp
We heard that Fellini used to have morning coffee here, so we went on our honeymoon for a late breakfast. The food was ok - the mushroom pizza was actually pretty good. My coffee was fine, my salad was ok. The tables are very close together and you get a lot of smoke in your face. They pressure you to pay someone sitting outside of the bathroom just to use the facilities of the restaurant you are paying to eat in, which is really weird and unappealing. Our server couldn't be bothered with us as if we were inconveniencing him for being there, then he asked for a tip when I handed him my credit card. (Not only was I told that tipping in Italy is not common practice, whenever I have left some kind of tip for good service over the last week here, the server has tried to give it back to me. Of course I say no, but this place was very different). I'd suggest going here for the experience of sitting by the piazza and looking around but don't go too hungry or expect anything great.

Randal O.

Yelp
Awful experience. Rude wait staff got mad at us for having water bottles (tourists in the middle of sightseeing, shocker). Not kind to Americans.
