Cantaberry

We went to Cantaberry on a cloudy cold day because we wanted some homemade soups and were happy that we did. The soup were simply delicious (chicken and wild rice for me and beef stew for my husband). We also ordered hot beef sandwich and Italian Club which are both good. We ended with the Millions Dollars cake which was heavenly!!! Also, the price is so good ($15 for a whole bowl of soup and a whole sandwich!!!). The slice of cake is $9.

Holy cow! I cant believe how excellent our lunch was at this restaurant in downtown Ellijay. The soup was outstanding and the pastrami sandwich was next level. I will definitely be coming back here next time I come up to this area. Or better yet, I think we may just make a special trip to get some great food!

Great spot for lunch; sandwiches are hearty and fresh. Both indoor and outdoor seating. A very popular restaurant off the main square; parking could be challenging, and some folks parked at nearby lot behind the Welcome Center.

Set in a historic brick building on Ellijay’s downtown square, Cantaberry offers a cozy, rustic atmosphere. Their menu excels in comfort pairings, featuring the famous creamy Chicken and Wild Rice soup alongside gourmet sandwiches like the grape and pecan-studded Chicken Salad or the signature Turkey Bacon Avocado on fresh bread.

This was my 3rd visit. Hopefully our server was just having a bad day. I ordered a large Ceasar salad and the chicken/pesto sandwich with fries (I was really hungry!). I was surprised when the sandwich & fries came out before the salad, and I told the server that I really just wanted to cancel the salad at that point (since my hot food already arrived) ... but she just plopped the salad down anyway, and started to walk off. I had to stop her, and ask her for cutlery, to even be able to eat the salad. Server rolled her eyes at me, but got the cutlery rolls. My tea needed a refill by the time any food arrived, but none was offered. Nobody checked on us after food arrived until it was time to pay, or order dessert, so I had to go to the counter to ask for a refill. Server snatched my glass, and brought a refill a few moments later. I noticed the server had automatically added a "service fee", without mentioning it. I asked if we had to pay a service fee, if paying with debit, and she said "no", and she removed it. (This was before noon on a Sunday). The food was all excellent!! My friend had the turkey/avocado sandwich and got 2 desserts to go we both spent over $30 per person. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful.

Great place to eat! I got their Cuban with tater tots, the sandwich was very good, really good pickles, tater tots are nice and crispy. Their chocolate cake was delicious too!

The Tuna salad sandwich was perfect, the service was pleasant and very helpful. Great place to meet people. If you are in the down town area, you need to eat here at least once, good meeting place, indoor and out door eating.

Got seated right away. Food was very good and nice-sized portions overall...however, the Cuban was kind of small. Waitress was a doll, very pleasant and prompt. Didn't rush us at all. Million dollar cake was absolutely delicious! Prices were reasonable. Sides were limited...fruit, coleslaw, pasta salad. $2.50 up charge for fries or onion rings, which seemed excessive based on the menu prices. Overall, a very nice place!

Everything on this menu has been amazing! Their burgers, fries, sandwiches (my go to) and dinner options are good also. I love ordering their turkey bacon avocado on sourdough and my husbands go to is their cantaberry burger with fries.

We have attempted to get a table at Elijay's Cantaberry on previous trips, but the wait was always too long. Naturally it made us more curious about what was going on inside. This trip we got in! The welcome was warm and our server was pretty attentive. You can sit outside under the sky, outside in a covered patio or inside. It was a cool day, but we still enjoyed the patio with heaters nearby. There isn't a lot on the menu for those with a vegetarian preference, but what we ordered turned out to be pretty good. We enjoyed our Tomato Basil soup and the veggie wrap was pretty good too! There are quite a few tasty options for dessert, but we decided to wait for next trip. Yep, I think that there will be another visit to Cantaberry!

Great food, super cute rustic decor! The wait wasn't too bad but the food took forever and the flies were a nuisance. Not sure how sandwiches took 20-30 minutes to make but they were really good. If they could have some kind of fan system over the door where you walk in to keep the flies away it would be so much better.

Wonderful spot grab a bite to eat! While visiting friends, we stopped and decided on sandwiches and soup. That the menu simply doesn't try to incorporate every cuisine under the sun is a major plus in my book! The staff are genuinely welcoming, and seating is well-arranged. The music's volume was perfect, so we conversed without needing to raise our voices. I'd definitely recommend

Excellent food, Ruben sandwich is in the top 5 Rubens I have had. The marbled rye bread was perfectly toasted and you can tell the 1000 island dressing is homemade. Morgan was an excellent server. Had the friendliness of a small town.

Food and atmosphere is nice. Centrally located I. Downtown Ellijay. Had a soup and sandwich combo.

Cantaberry is an adorable little restaurant. We were in the area to go to a local apple farm, but decided to check out the quaint little town of Ellijay and grab some lunch from a local restaurant before we went and picked apples. My friends - having lived in Atlanta for a number of years - had been to Cantaberry before, and highly recommended it. Our servers were friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. We did end up having to wait about an hour for a table, but luckily they take your phone number and text you so you can go wander the shops around town. I opted for the turkey, bacon avocado sandwich on sourdough bread (deli sliced turkey, crispy, bacon, sliced avocado, topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and ranch dressing) it was delicious! Even though it was simple, the ingredients really shined. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area!

We were a little disappointed reading all of the good reviews. The server was really sweet and good, and the service overall we efficient. My husband liked his burger and the fries were really good and seasoned. I ordered the BLT and this is where it fell apart. It was cold. The bread was barely toasted and cold and the bacon was not fresh and also cold. Some of the fat has hardened on the bacon too. The sweet potatoes fries were also mostly soggy except for a few. :( Such a bummer.

Delicious soup and sandwiches. Love the patio! Staff is always very helpful and friendly. We stop in every year we visit North GA in the fall.

Amazing place! It's so cute inside- their cakes are HUGE. Servers were attentive + so sweet. My friend had the Turkey avacado on gluten free bread & I had the pesto chicken. So delicious! Their ranch is amazing. I definitely want to come back when I'm in the area! Saw several families there, hopping busy place, but able to get a table without a long wait. Give them a try!

We've enjoyed the Blue Ridge location a couple times, but this was our first time in this location. I really like the building. The food is delicious and the chicken wild rice soup is our favorite! But we've not had a bad soup or sandwich at Canterbury. Some are a bit salty, but very delicious over all. 4 stars because the server did not tell us the specials and I feel we missed out. Also, the table we were sat at was not wiped down.

The food was great. Actually, the food was so delicious and in satisfying portions that we didn't need a to-go box. Everyone in my party left satisfied and loved their meals. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich from the soft bread with a toasted, grilled crunch to the melt in your mouth deliciously seasoned pork made my meal fantastic. The slaw was delicious in its own right and was a great accompaniment to the sandwich and the mash potatoes. The mash potatoes, like everything else, is made in house and fresh. They are a creamy, real potato mash with a hint of roasted garlic. Everyone at my table loved them. The grouper was also one of our dishes and it didn't disappoint. Blackened with the right herbs and spices to keep us wanting more. It was perfectly paired with mashed potatoes. We loved the food and look forward to visiting again. Every meal was delicious.

We had a great lunch at a fair price. The service was quick also. I was highly recommend them.

Four of us stopped for lunch. Two of us had grilled cheese and Tomato Basil soup, both were excellent. All the food was really good. The lack of 4 stars was for uneven service. One soup came out. Then a long time passed then the food came out. The more time passed and the rest of the soups came out. Then I had to ask for a spoon as my soup was the only one that didn't come out with one on the plate. Minor stuff and I would still eat there again as there were more things on the menu that I wanted to try and based on other comments, our experience with service may have been unusual.

Visited on a Monday for lunch. It was full, but not completely packed. Very friendly service. We had the tomato basil soup, the chicken salad sandwich, and the tuna salad sandwich. The sandwiches were very good and the soup was spectacular. Very friendly service.

Great sandwiches sometimes. I went on successive days and had the Ruben both times. First time was excellent. The best Ruben I've had in years. Second time the pastrami was cold in the middle and they left off the Russian dressing. Our greater was also rude when We arrived, asking whether we were on their waitlist and then making us stand outside for ten minutes, before ultimately seating us at the table we had originally sat down at on the patio. Soups are mixed. All seem to be quite creamy and tilted to a sweeter palate.

We are visiting from a Florida and while walking shops downtown, decided to try here for lunch. It's a typical soup/salad/sandwich place and was pretty busy so we wanted to give it a go. I gave my phone number so they could text us when our table was ready. When we walked in we were taken to a table that hadn't been wiped down. Which was fine because this has happened to us before. We quickly ordered our drinks and food at the same time to be quicker. I ordered a small salad and half sandwich, my kids both ordered a cup of soup with half sandwich and my husband ordered a bowl of soup with a sandwich. Drinks came, and then soups... and we waited. And waited. My husband was almost done with his soup by the time my salad came. And again we waited for the sandwiches.... our waitress never came back after the soups had been brought so we had to wait and find out where the sandwiches were. When we asked about them she said they should be coming out soon like it was normal that half of our order was missing. I'm not sure if this is common practice, but in Florida when you order a soup and sandwich you get them together. We ended up just taking the sandwiches to go because by the time they finally came, everyone was ready to go.

Reuben was very skimpy, would rather pay more for a good sandwich. Tomato basil soup was ok, but would have been better if fresh basil was used.

First visit to this hometown restaurant on the Square. We sat on their outdoor covered deck for lunch. I had their club sandwich with a side of fries, both were fresh and prepared with excellence. We got a to-go slice of their carrot cake. This is a mammoth slice of cake and it was absolutely fantastic! Best place I've eaten in Ellijay!

Tomato soup was delicious! Food came out quickly and the staff were friendly. Will be back!

Excellent! This was delightful from the time we arrived until we finished our yummy meal. I had the Mushroom Brie Soup/ Salad with tomato dressing. We loved the food. We will be back.

Beautiful restaurant that proudly serves Coca-Cola beverages. Excellent service and the lunch we had was outstanding. Heard about their soups and it did not disappoint. Tomato Basil was the best I have had. I had the Hot Beef sandwich and could've gone with half but at least I was able to enjoy the other half later on. Save room for the desserts! Red Velvet and something amazing with chocolate ganache, cheesecake and chocolate cake. Can't wait to go back!

The pimento and cheese was so delicious. A must try. We enjoyed the chicken salad and our salads. Great service, everyone was so friendly.

Old building, lovely service, clean, and good flavors. Only thing that was disappointing was that we appeared to get the lunch menu at dinner time. When I asked our server about getting the dinner menu, she said that since October is their busiest month, in order to keep food times at a minimum, for October, they offer a much more limited menu. Don't get me wrong, I get making your employees happy and reducing wait times for orders but I wish that was explained a bit more in the website. Again no bad things to say about my dining experience but be warned if you are going in October that you won't have the full dinner menu.

Uncomplicated lunch menu...soups, salads, and sandwiches only...yet it took an hour for us to get the food we ordered! Ridiculous amount of wait time for food to be served! There was nothing complicated with our orders. My husband ordered a turkey bacon avocado sandwich on toasted wheat bread and I ordered a turkey bacon avocado as well in a spinach tortilla wrap. Nothing spectacular. It wasn't busy either since it was already after 2pm. So, If you're looking to enjoy a simple meal but not starve to death waiting, do NOT come to this place.

There is a reason this restaurant is packed! The food is delicious and the service is great! We went twice during our weekend in the mountains! They offer gluten free bread which is another positive!

Rueben wasn't that hot. The bread was way over toasted, could actually smell burnt toast. Not much flavor. Gyro was ok, again not much flavor. Fries on both were very good. Service was excellent.

We came here on a Friday night in the summer and was able to get a large table on the patio for our group of 11 without a reservation, since they don't take them anyways. We had a bunch of kids with us and the staff was great as was the environment for them. The kids menu had lots of good choices and my kids ended up with the chicken tenders as usual. For my entree, I had the pastrami and swiss sandwich. It comes with chips (which were in a bag pre-packaged) and you can upgrade to fries for a cost. The sandwich was great and filling. The ingredients were fresh and it came in a timely manner. The price was right for what you got and I was satisfied with my order. The beer selection here is good as well. A great local spot!

Service was great. The sides were HUGE. It was a bit pricey. 3 people for dinner and dessert + tip was $90. But we would definitely visit again!

Food was amazing! Service was fabulous! Chicken and rice soup was heavenly! Cuban was so good. Fries were hot and fresh. Turkey and avocado wrap was so good! Highly recommend this place. Husband and I stopped for lunch going through town. Yelp review made us choose this place. Did not disappoint. Definitely will go again when in the area.

My husband got the Reuben which was fantastic, one of the best I've had. I highly recommend getting that if you go here. I had the Cuban and it was good but a tad dry. Fries were also great.

Had the club sandwich. It was ok. They basically threw a chunk of ham and turkey on wheat bread. Tomato was the size of a quarter. French fries were room temp. Definitely not fresh. Waitress was wonderful. Not sure that I would go back for $40 for 2 sandwiches and 2 Coke's.

There was a longer wait than we were told to begin with, but it was quite busy in the area so that is to be expected. Once seated it took a while to be waited on, but again they were extremely busy. We ordered our sandwiches/ burgers. I had the Prime rib special sandwich. Our lunch was served much later than our neighboring tables. The server brought a side of pasta salad and side of fruit for us to nibble on due to the long wait. It was a nice gesture and thoughtful to do so, but they were not very good. The prime rib special was not so special. The beef was so thinly shredded it looked like mush and was barely noticeable on the sandwich. I thought maybe they are so busy and close to running out that is why it was so skimpy. The onion jam was too much for the little meat and cheese that was between the slices of bread. Thankfully my husband shared his burger with me. It was good. Our server was friendly and courteous. The ambience was fine.

First timer to Cantaberry! Restaurant is located on the square in Ellijay, GA (surrounded by all types of quaint shops). I was enjoying a day off from work and met my friend there for lunch. Fun, fun! We were looking for a soup/salad/sandwich option and Cantaberry fit the bill ! Arrived at 11:40, just in time - got a table with no wait. Started off with some delicious cold sweet tea (on a very hot day). :) Lunch menu offers a variety of salads and sandwiches. Each day they seem to offer 3 soup options. Todays was tomato basil, chicken flora tine, or chicken wild rice (i went with that!!). You can create a combo choosing soup, salad or most sandwiches, i liked that option. Sandwich was good (my turkey or ham don't know which) was a little too smokey flavored to me, but was ok. My favorite was the delicious hearty chicken wild rice soup! Yum! I would definitely get that again! My friend had the salad with a scoop of chicken salad. She enjoyed it. She did mention that the spinach leave stalks were a little thick for some reason? I plan to bring my mom here for lunch and to walk the square and visit all the shops. I will wait until the weather gets cooler (yikes 95 degrees!).

Had the BBQ Burger and sweet potato fries. Good service and the food was delicious. Their cakes are the best part of the restaurant

This is always our go to place to 'start' when we come to the mountains. The food is consistent and in large portions. We started our meal with dessert! Cake and pie. Then to sandwiches and soup while enjoying mimosas. The patio is dog friendly and our goldens were right at home. There were four other dogs on the patio. I had the 1/2 turkey avocado sandwich with a salad and chocolate cake. I had to take half the cake to go. We will be here each and every time we come back!

After waiting for nearly an hour and half for a table for 6 (nothing wrong with that at all), we were disappointed to find that our food came out cold. The soup was cold and seemed to be straight from the refrigerator, burgers were so cold the cheese was not melted, and buns were stale. My presumption would be that the kitchen had an off day and the benefit of the doubt could have been given, but not when six meals at our table came out cold. We could have done without the snarky remarks from the waitress and when asked to speak to the manager, only two find out that there was not one at the restaurant. We should have known it was going to be an issue when we watched staff sweeping the floors and stacking chairs in the dining room while patrons were actively eating. I downloaded Yelp to specifically share the experience we had, and if someone else is looking for a lunch in the area, you'd be better off steering clear of the substantially subpar bar food and checking out the restaurants across the street.

Outstanding food and service in a cool old building. Had the chicken wild rice it was fantastic and wife had the tomato bisque it tasted very fresh. We also tried the pork plate that came with black eyed peas and collard greens. The greens were some of the best I've had seasoned to perfection. Staff was exceptional and knew the menu very well. Bathroom was super clean. A great place to grab some farm to table southern food.

Great spot for a family lunch. A few alcohol selections, great brewed sweet tea. I had the special today which was a smokehouse sandwich. It was a sizeable portion with a hefty onion ring. Overall the sandwich was filling and tasty. Kids had cheese burgers and fries. The chicken and wild rice soup was very yum but is milk based...

Sunshine and 65 degree weather on a Friday morning made for a lovely drive to Ellijay, which is known as Georgia's Apple Capital. I found free parking in a large lot near the courthouse and instantly felt relaxed. Free parking seems like a rarity these days. People were setting up for the annual Apple Festival that weekend, and I was partly glad to miss the crowds but also knew there would be numerous crafts and delicious food to enjoy at this fall gathering. Cantaberry was fairly busy at 11:30 am, and I sat at the bar as groups came in behind me and chose from indoor and patio seating. Cantaberry Restaurant offers gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads, homemade soups, and desserts at two locations in North Georgia: Ellijay and Blue Ridge. I ordered the salad plate which comes with soup or chili, and a scoop each of tuna and chicken salad over greens. The chili was overflowing and satisfying. The tuna salad was unmemorable; however, the chicken salad was a winner - hard to go wrong when you mix in grapes and crunchy candied pecans. I'm always a fan of dishes that offer contrasting flavors and textures. I had a front row seat to the hard working staff and appreciated their efficiency and friendly nature despite a nonstop lunch hour with takeout orders, tables to serve, and a line of customers out the door by the time I left. A solid experience and a place I will visit again. This popular lunch spot gets busy so arrive before noon if you can!

Right on the square and usually a wait on weekends...but it's well worth the wait. We had a 45 minute wait today and enjoyed browsing the shops on the square until they called us. There is nothing better than hot tomato soup and grilled cheese on a cold day and theirs did not disappoint! The Reuben and fries were solid as well. Friendly and warm ambiance and service...we will be back when in Elijay!

Nice family-friendly restaurant with good food, and decent prices. The service we received was just okay, as customers arriving after us were served before us, with no explanation from our server. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired and the hallway leading to the restrooms had a rancid smell, which was a bit alarming. Will try again although a bit reluctant.

Came to Elijay Georgia after an incredible kayaking outing on the Cartecay river. We walked around looking for the best looking place to eat and ended up coming in to Cantaberry. Their outdoor patio is perfect as its covered, has a TV, and was rather cool on a June day. Our waitress was pleasant as she came out quick and took our drink orders and also offered to take our orders if we were ready. We then ordered our food and chit-chatted until it arrived. The Food: We split a pimento cheeseburger and the Bacon Avocado Turkey sandwich. Both were very good although I preferred the sandwich as the croissant roll hit the spot. The food didn't blow our minds, but for the price and area this is exactly what we were looking forward to! Overall, I liked the look and feel of the restaurant being right next to the main square of the city. Give it a try if your in the area!

Always busy cafe on the Courthouse square in Ellijay GA. I had a Rueben, which was excellent, juicy and done well. My daughter had a BLT, again excellent. Waitstaff was quick, even though it was pretty full. Ambiance is a casual meet up vibe, good for mom and daughter, girls day out and family groups. Did I mention the cakes? OMG. When we were there, we sat near the glass case display with incredible cakes! I think I spotted a Lady Baltimore cake (look it up), a triple layer coconut cake, a chocolate confection cake to die for and several others. Sadly, I could not manage a slice but def will be back soon. For cake!

Great restaurant in the heart of downtown Ellijay! Friendly staff and happy to help with recommendations around town. We ordered 3 Philly cheesesteaks, chicken fingers and mac n cheese and a pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw. Their sides were amazing! The mac n cheese had a little pepper kick but was great. It was soo much food for 5 people. Two people can easily split a Philly cheesesteak. The total for our meals was about $94 plus tip. This restaurant is a must! Please visit here and you won't be disappointed.

The restaurant is super cute. The waiters were kind and attentive. I ordered the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich on a croissant, and it was outstanding!! So glad we made this pit stop in Ellijay!
