"Yes, it’s a canteen, so self-service, but it’s delicious and affordable. The secret appeal about this place, though, is not the price, nor the décor (which doesn’t exist), it’s the wonderful view of the city. Arrive before 1 p.m. to snag a seat before the local workers arrive for their midday meals."

This place is amazing. You can choose from 3 different lunches, take a dessert and a soup and you pay 9€. The women, who work there are very polite and the food was local and delicious. The view from the terrace is definitely a plus. Before you go, you have a coffee that comes with the meal.

First thing, this place is not easy to find, but well worth the effort. It's not a traditional restaurant that you may be accustomed to, this is a no frills Catholic operated cafeteria style eatery. Your options are soup (Y/N), salad (Y/N), meat, seafood or vegetarian. There isn't a menu, you just answer those questions and they reach you your plate. Please do not let this make you think it isn't great because it was. The outdoor terrace was incredible and the food was as good as some of the Michelin restaurants that we had eaten at.

Good food and amazing deal for the price. ~10 eur for soup, entree, beer/wine and a post meal coffee. The only issue is the signage or lack thereof. Use google maps and refer to the photos for help finding it. When you get to the door, either take the evelator or walk up to the third floor.

Saw this place on a social media post. The outdoor patio is Lovely but small. Chose to eat lunch indoors in the air conditionning. Hearty and authentic food served cafeteria style. Soup, salad, your choice of a meat dish, fish dish or veg dish. They change daily. Drink extra but very inexpensive your meal also includes a ticket for a coffee at their coffe bar after your meal. 5 people, with drinks and coffee. 46€ Rustic / local flavors. Would return. Opened only mon-Friday 12-3pm

A little hard to find: when you’re at the street, look for the door with the “1” number at the top. Climb the stairs to the top till you see a white door to the left (usually closed). Go through the door and you’re here. They have a set lunch menu with what seems to be 2 options for the main dish. Everything is in Portuguese but there’s usually a line and you just have to follow the person in front of you! It’s self-service and you get your tray, food etc and then pay at the cashier. I got the lunch set with soup and a small beer for €7.50, and it tasted great! Tip: they have an open air terrace with amazing views. Near the cashier there’s a door that leads outside, I missed it while I was there and sat indoors instead. Also remember to return your tray after you’re done!

If you want to eat for 6.50 euros I recommend Cantina das Freiras. It has a terrace overlooking the river and the food is pretty good. It is found near Praça do Comércio. The program is Monday to Friday. The lunch is served between 12-15
