I was so excited to dine at a Jose Avillez restaurant while in Lisbon. While it was hard to choose one, I'm thrilled I chose Cantinho do Avillez. I loved everything about my experience.
Perhaps a bit more casual than the other options, Cantinho do Avillez is charming, welcoming, and pretty. And the service is exquisite. I made a reservation, even though I was solo, and I would say that is a must. During Friday lunch, the restaurant fills up fast.
My meal consisted of bread, moqueca, and the hazelnut dessert. I sadly did not have a drink because my liver needed a break. Per usual in Lisbon, the bread, butter, oil, and olives are the perfect start to the meal. The entree decision was tough, but I loved my choice of the meagre and shrimp moqueca. The portion is great and the seafood is plentiful. The stew is rich and delicious and the tomato flavor really shines through. And of course, I had to go with the famous hazelnut dessert to finish. While not as Instagrammable as I had hoped, it was just as delicious as I had hoped.
Everything at Cantinho do Avillez is excellent and it is one my favorite meals I've had. The entire menu sounds amazing and I'd love nothing more than to return and find out for myself.
