Cantwell House

What a wonderful true Bed & Breakfast! We had arranged to arrive in the middle of the night, and Audrey had made arrangements for our access and our check-in was seamless. The rooms are well appointed, beautifully laid out, spacious and very comfortable. We had shared access to the kitchen, dining room and a lovely third floor sitting area, with a most amazing balcony, from which the downtown, Signal Hill and harbour views were spectacular! We stayed twice during our visit to Newfoundland, the first two nights upon our arrival and we were fortunate enough to be able to book the last three nights of our two-week stay. In each of our rooms, the beds were comfortable and oh-so-welcoming at the end of each day's adventures. Each morning, Audrey was there to greet us and provide choices for a full home cooked breakfast, which changed daily. Along with a bowl of fruit, yoghurt, fresh homemade preserves, choice of juice and endless coffee, we were always set for a great start to our day. Audrey is very welcoming, kind, friendly and knowledgeable about Newfoundland, in general, and St. John's specifically. She was always willing to assist her guests with their itineraries to enhance their visit, so as not to miss out on local highlights. Cantwell House is located mere blocks away from the downtown core and the harbour, with many of the colourful "Jelly Bean Row" type housing, visible from the third floor balcony. We had rented a car for our visit and Audrey provided us with on-street parking passes, which were so convenient to use. We highly recommend booking and staying at the "Cantwell House", as it is truly one of a kind!

What a wonderful B&B. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We had access to the kitchen and a third floor sitting area. The bed was heavenly and we had the best sleep since we started our travels. In the morning, Audrey was there to greet us and provided some choices for breakfast. Along with a bowl of fruit and choice of beverages, we were full. Audrey is very knowledgeable about Newfoundland and assisted guests with ideas on what to explore. Cantwell House is located blocks away from downtown and Jelly Bean Row. Easy to get around if you don’t mind the hilly streets. We will definitely return on our next adventure to St John’s.

I cannot say enough kind words about Audrey and her hospitality. We arrived middle of the night and there were fresh baked treats waiting for us at the entry way. Our room was comfortable and clean and just perfect. In the morning she made fresh breakfast for her guests and we all got to know each other. She even offered suggestions for us with local points of interest and places to travel to / eat at. I cannot stress how amazing she was for my husband and I on our honeymoon and my birthday. And how wonderful this BnB is. She set the bar high here ◡̈

We loved our stay at Cantwell House. Audrey was our charming host who provided good conversation and delicious breakfast. The old house is beautifully maintained and perfect location for downtown St. John’s.

This is a quaint B&B located in the Jelly Bean area, walking distance to downtown , lots of street parking. Audrey is a wonderful host, and her breakfasts are yummy, and she even accommodated my Gluten Free diet. Audrey was very helpful with tips on the area. We enjoyed having breakfast and meeting the other guests, and talking about our adventures. The 3rd floor balcony has an amazing view of the harbour. Goodies were left out in the afternoon.

We had a lovely stay at the Cantwell house. Comfortable beds, very spacious room and bathroom and very well located. Parking and breakfast is included which was really nice and convenient. The host was also very accommodating and responsive. We would definitely stay here again!

Seemed very welcoming, but unfortunately when we arrived on the day of our reservation, we found the door closed. We had corresponded by email, the reservation was made, but you have to give your credit card number by email (which is absolutely not secure and which I refused to do). I tried to contact them by phone several times to make a payment over the phone, but I couldn't reach anyone and no one called me back despite my Canadian Phone number... On the day of our reservation, we rang the doorbell and called, but no one answered. We had to find last-minute accommodation, which was very unpleasant... So bad for this place, which seemed very nice!

We stayed at Cantwell House for two days in August. The rooms are so unique with Newfoundland culture. The view at the balcony was great: Signal Hill, harbour, Jellybean Row. The host Audrey made us delicious hot breakfast, and allowed us to store our luggage there after checking out. We chatted with Audrey and other guests in the dinning room. It was a great stay.
