What It's Like to Ride Canyon Spirit's 3-day Journey Through the American Southwest

"A small airport near Moab with limited flight options that previously required many travelers to fly in or out of the area before the rail route was extended to the larger air hub." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Great little airport! Super clean and well run. About 20 minutes north of Moab. Flights out of PHX via Contour Airlines. Be sure to have your transportation figured out in advance! Uber doesn’t typically serve, I found out after trying to secure an Uber 4 times but “no drivers found” around 3:00pm. Called taxi which took 30 minutes to arrive and cost $54 which seemed reasonable. Taxi driver told me that Uber doesn’t go to airport because it requires extra insurance and fees. The sites on the flight approach into Moab are stunning.

We had an unexpected delay at Canyonlands Regional Airport due to weather in Denver that grounded all flights. Despite being a small airport, the experience was nothing short of incredible. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us, offering complimentary snacks, drinks, and constant updates. But the best surprise? They threw a pizza party right at the gate, serving up amazing artisan pizzas from Antica Forma, a local gem known for its authentic Neapolitan-style pies. The wood-fired crust and fresh toppings were a delightful treat that turned a frustrating situation into a memorable experience. Huge thanks to the team at CNY for their hospitality and care!

I love small town airports, and Canyonlands is one of the best! I come to Moab several times a year and when the schedule works, I prefer flying in here over Grand Junction simply because it’s more convenient to Moab obviously and the check-in/out and rental car process is extremely easy and quick. As of late spring 2024 I believe the once daily service has switched from United to American from Phoenix just FYI.

This is the smallest airport I have ever traveled to. That's not a bad thing necessarily but there are some important things to understand about this airport: 1. You luggage will be out in the open. No need to bring your high $$$ luggage here. If it's raining...then it gets wet. Same with snow, hail, high winds, freezing weather, etc. The luggage claiming area is outside and it's basically a shelf. 2. Uber will not pick you up here. There is only 1 Uber driver in all of Moab anyway. Keep in mind there are only 5,500p people living here at the time of this review. They won't have some services you are accustomed to in other cities. This is remote. If you aren't renting a car then make sure you have a ride setup BEFORE you get here. There's only 1 taxi too. Plan ahead! 3. Since the airport is so small many of the employees will be doing 2 jobs. Passing through security usually doesn't have a line...but the person who checked your ID might also be doing the body scan for you later. Just be patient with everyone and you'll be ok. Arrive 15 minutes earlier than you normally would and that will accommodate any extra waiting...but since no line it will be MUCH faster than any airport you are used to traveling through. Hope some of this helps in some way. Crew and employees here are very accommodating.

Probably the smallest airport I’ve ever been too but it does the job. The guy at the rental car place was so nice and got us all set up within minutes. Had a 3 stall women’s restroom with super cool mirrors. — after you go through security there’s only one restroom for women and one for men. Lots of seating but very close together.

16 miles from Moab. This location has multiple car rental companies and shuttle service that you can purchase. TSE employees were extremely nice and I found some female hygiene products inside the female toilet and it has to be the kindest gesture I have ever seen in the USA. This place is clean and two vending machines are available for drinks and snacks.

One of the smallest and nicest airports I've been in. Nicely setup. I hope to visit Moab again and I'd have no problem utilizing the airport.

Google
Awesome airport---small, quick, and stress-free experience. Make sure to show up at least 30 minutes before your flight---they might close security on you if you're not paying attention as there aren't many flights! :) Moab Express shuttle is great for pick up and drop off. Parking is $6/night via mobile app. Walk 30 seconds to the terminal. Update: The new Metropolis parking service isn't capable of refunding any unused days if you reserve too many days. So, if there's any chance you might return early, don't reserve extra days---you'll have to "feed the meter" online each day to avoid getting overcharged. Pretty embarrassing that you can't just reduce the number of days reserved prior to the end of the parking session so that it corresponds to the number of days used.

Yelp
Bottom Line: A very small regional airport that is just about 20 minutes from Arches National Park and 25 minutes from downtown Moab. Canyonlands Field is a very small airport. Both Delta and United (perhaps dba SkyWest) serve this airport and there are a few flights a day between the two of them, particularly during the peak tourist months. But I suspect most of the traffic comes from the Fixed Based Operation (FBO), Redtail Air, who offers lots of sightseeing flights, charters and shuttles. The airport is so small that I don't think there is even a map of it and I believe there is only one gate for commercial aviation. Basically when your flight is called you walk out on the tarmac and up a flight of stairs to board the plane. Given the small size I don't think there is any food service on site - just a few vending machines but there are car rentals on site. I rented through Enterprise and I think Alamo and a Jeep company might be on site too. When I say onsite I mean that when commercial planes are landing people will be at the desk to rent cars. Otherwise you have to get your car key out of a locker and drop your car keys in the night drop. If you don't want to rent a car and need a ride from CNY I recommend Moab Express who, like the rental car agencies, plan their appearances at the airport around the commercial flight schedule. Alternatively, you can book a private shuttle with Moab Express for a CNY to downtown Moab run. Overall, a nice little airport and you certainly can't beat its proximity to Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park!

Yelp
This small airport serves its purpose well - to bring people in and out of Moab so you don't have to drive several hours from Salt Lake City. We've been to Moab twice before this trip but chose to start here this time. It was three flights to get here but saved hours of driving. There isn't really a baggage claim so you kind'of stand around outside baking in the sun until your bags are brought to an outdoor metal table area and loaded there. It was 105 the day we landed so I didn't really wanna do that. I stayed on the plane an extra 10 minutes to get my plane side bag. It's really simple inside with only one car rental window for like 3-4 vendors and one TSA area. Bags MUST be checked in like an hour before your flight or you will miss the flight and have to wait. And it's such a small airport it could be the last one of the day. So make sure to get here at least an hour early! We rented a car and used Alamo from here and had no issues. The car was ready and was a free upgrade for us in size and luxury.

Yelp
Awesome local airport about 20 minutes north of Moab's Main Street. Arrived almost 3 hours before my flight because my friends had to drive back to Denver, but there are couches in the main lobby/terminal to relax on, charge your devices, and lounge. Vending machines are cash only and each item is either $1 or $2. Restrooms are clean and can be a good spot to refresh before your flight. Ticket counter opened about 1.5 hours before the flight departed. Very easy process and the ticket agents are super friendly and hilarious. They clearly are all good friends. Security is a breeze and they have TSA precheck as well. Pro-tip: the main area is nicer than the post-security gate area, so I would wait to go through security until the last minute.

Yelp
I am surprised there was only 1 review for this amazing airport Located in the heart of one of the most scenic areas in the nation. I love Canyonland Field Airport. I am grateful we have an airport even though its a small one. I got excited once they had flights from here to SLC, flew with them few times then they canceled the route and did some construction. Recently opened last May 2018 and operates only flight to and from Salt Lake City and Denver. Staffs here are great, helpful and professional. Beautiful runway& fantastic ground supporters as well.

Yelp
A small town airport from a hallmark movie. Not a lot of flights come in and out of Moab. On the days we came and went, we were on the only flights, which makes for a small operation. But that adds to the charm of the airport. With a beautiful view of the landscape and only one gate, the airport is easy to navigate with friendly staff. Even the TSA agents were friendly and helpful, offering us tips before we went through security and asking us questions for conversation while we waited in line. And when I was randomly selected for hand testing, the agent was talkative through the quick process and didn't keep me from putting my stuff back together as the machine ran the test. The size and friendliness of the airport is a welcomed relief as a regular large city traveler. A few tips if you're heading that way: - arrive about an hour before your flight, which is plenty of time to check in and make it through security with time to spare. - the ticket counter might not be open if you arrive too early, in which case you just wait a bit. - the security process goes quickly but they require you to take out any food items for inspection. - there are bathrooms in both sides of security. - some of the vending machines only take cash!

Yelp
Great little airport! Friendly staff and TSA line is only as many people as they can fit on a tiny plane. . I love small towns.
