Capa Negra II in Campo Alegre is a classic Porto institution, known especially for its francesinha and late-night atmosphere. The place is lively and often busy, with a steady mix of regulars and people just passing through. The food is straightforward and comforting, with portions that satisfy without fuss. Service is quick and efficient, even when the room is full. It’s not about fine dining or refinement here, but about tradition, habit, and the familiar taste of a place that has been part of the city for years. A reliable stop when you want a true, old-school Porto experience.
But my recent experience was disappointing. We waited over an hour and a half for our francesinhas while watching several tables who arrived later being served before us. The issue seemed to come from the staff competing over tables and orders, rather than working together. In the end, we had only eaten a few rissóis and had some beers, and after protesting, we left without paying. It was not about the money, but about the lack of organisation and fairness. I hope it was an isolated situation, because this used to be a reliable old-school stop for a true Porto experience.
