As a daughter of an Albertan Coal Miner, I wanted to see & experience what is was to be below ground. Impressive. Highly recommend to anyone. I’m more grateful now, than ever before, after an experiencing the conditions that my dad persevered to put food on our 1970’s dining table. The guides tell personal sorties that truly put you in their shoes. Our guide had 28 years below the earth. Wow! Highly recommend.

This is a gem of a tourist location. Our tour guide, I believe his name was Leo, was wonderful. He is a retired miner and his tour of the mine was just so captivating. Don’t just visit this site, be sure to take advantage of the mine tour to try and even get an inkling of what mineworkers went through for their country. These people who risked their lives to mine coal are to be revered and honored for their sacrifice. The tour included stories from an actual miner, a short but interesting video about mining, then an actual tour of a mine. I would suggest it for all ages. Helmets provided.

Fascinating place and well worth the time. Terry was our host and he was a wealth of knowledge about mining operations, the mining lifestyle, the struggle to unionize, the struggles to survive. It's easy to see why the bonds between miners are so strong, since they literally have each other's back multiple times a day. A full museum visit includes exhibits, a virtual tour into a mine, actually descending into a mine shaft with your guide, and memorials, some outdoors, to miners who have lost their lives on the job. There is also an adjacent restaurant that gets good reviews for its homestyle cooking. We enjoyed our visit very much. And learned a lot doing it!

Absolutely amazing. Tour underground was awesome. To see the coal on the wall was really neat as your walking in the actual mine. Not recommended if you have a sore neck as you have to slow walk/crouch. Our your guide, Terry had the most amazing stories made us all laugh and really enjoy the walk.

Great visit. Very friendly staff. I recommend doing the underground tour! Our guide Sheldon was fantastic!!! I give him 5 stars! He was super entertaining, very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. Sheldon made the whole experience feel very personal and real. It was a great experience! Our overnight stay was great. Very easy, quiet and hassle free! Thank you!

We did a sunday morning tour with Leo, he did a fantastic job of explaining the history sharing stories and making uou feel comfortable while in the mine. I highly recommend this tour it was an amazing experience. Thanks so much Leo and the awesome crew at the museum, I will definitely be coming back with the kiddos. 👍 I would recommend calling in advance to find out approximate tour times, although the staff is very accommodating. The tours take about an hr an a half. They also have a cute gift shop and coal that you can buy as souvenirs.

If you are in the area the Cape Breton Miners Museum is a must see. The museum itself is absolutely incredible, but if you want the full experience a 100% recommend the virtual tour. I'm short so the low ceilings weren't really a problem ( but taller people watch your head) helmets are also provided for everyone. The guides are knowledgeable and the stories they share touched my heart.

What a great little museum. This was part of our cruise excursion and thought it was something different so we pick this. So glad we did. The former miners that work at the museum have/give quite the insight to what it was like to work in the mines and the conditions they had to endure. There is a regular museum portion that has items used in and related to mines and miners. Then there is an underground mine portion (wasn't really ever a mine) to stimulate the conditions inside the mines. You have to wear a hard hat as it gets pretty short and narrow in some areas. Learned a lot in our short time there, definitely worth a stop

Yelp
Wonderful tour into the mine. The stories are very interesting and exceptional. I highly recommend it especially for children or anyone who has an interest in history. Stories from people who were there and stories you won't hear anywhere else. In the mine, you will need to stoop as you walk unless you are under about 5 foot 2 inches or so. So interesting and educational.

Yelp
Being able to share about just how hard the coal miners had it with visitors, when I used to volunteer as a guide and interpreter. They (the visitors), were rather blown away. If you want to learn about how hard the coal miners had it, I very highly recommend the Miner's Museum.
