Yelp
We just returned from a weeks vacation at this KOA and I have to say - IMPRESSIVE! We were one row back from the dunes, within a 2 minute walk to the beach. Really nice.
We like KOAs for camping because they are always well appointed and clean. This one is no exception as they work really hard to maintain their Presidential rating. The bathrooms are cleaned once a day - which should be enough, but with the amount of campers [and I have to say sloppy, piggish campers] the bathrooms had a tendency to be gross by the end of the day. Not the fault of the KOA by any means, but fellow campers that don't care. I always wondered if while at home if these campers actually left their bathroom sinks looking the way the did the ones at the KOA? Oh well.
There are so many things to do - mini golf, arcade, bounce pillow, playground, bike/banana bike rentals, movie night, karoke night, tye dyed t-shirt day, PIRATE DAY! yay!, etc...to much to list.
The have a nice store, a bit pricey, but to be expected for being onsite and they do take credit cards [but not debit cards], and you have to purchase at least $10 worth at a time. One day we had a purchase of $9.96 and they turned us away. That didn't make me happy, but, sigh, rulez is rulez I guess.
The cafe' sells awesome pizza [and I am not a pizza fan, but this is pretty darn good] and their pancake breakfasts are a deal $3 for adults, $2 for kids and it includes 2 large pancakes, 2 sausage patties and a juice for the kids [I think the adults has 3 pancakes] Very delicious and cheap!
Dairy Queen and Atlantic Coast cafe are within walking distance as is the Sound, right across the street.
We like Rodanthe as it isn't as crowded and commercialized as Nags Head and the beaches farther north on Hatteras. It has more of a hometown feel as opposed to a tourist mecca.
If you like to camp you will not be disappointed by visiting this KOA.
