Our family of 5 stayed for a week for the first time. We had a site with just water hook up so we utilized the bath house often. The bath house was spacious and extremely clean for our family. We did use the pump service once at the end of our stay which was extremely convenient, fast and well priced. The pool and train ride were the kids' favorite along with the nighttime ghost crab hunt! The walk to the beach with 3 small kids was super easy and convenient. We will most definitely be booking again for next year!

Stayed here for three nights. The location was great. Pool awesome and the staff super friendly. We stayed for the Easter weekend and they had a lot activities for our kids. They had a blast. The only thing I saw better at a Koa campground yet, were the sites itself. There were not much space between the regular sites and no vegetation. But We will definitely come back! Highly recommended is the sunrise at the beach.

Google
Excellent campground and well kept. Large swimming pool and a hot tub too. We had a campsite 100’ from the beach and 50’ from a super clean, air conditioned bath house. I give the campground itself and the staff 5 stars, but the golf carts they have to rent are clapped out rust buckets. 1 star rating for the golf carts. Overall nice/clean place. I would highly recommend for a family beach vacation.

We absolutely loved our stay here! I can’t speak highly enough about the staff and the location. I have been coming here since the mid 90s and while it has changed hands, it has never lost its charm. While a popular tourist area, the campground has activities, but it’s not overly busy. It doesn’t seem to cater to children more than adult adults or adults more than children. This is a pet friendly campground with a lot to see and a lot to do-Even if you decide to just stay at the campground! The location is unparallel. The campground owns property on the other side of the street, allowing you to see the sunrise from the campground and the sunset from the other side of the road. The campground is clean when we brought our camper down the sites are large and level for the most part, And when we have stayed in cabins, the cabins are clean, spacious and come with a lot of extras. This is a beautiful location. Don’t forget your camera!! This area will always hold a special place in my heart, but this campground holds so many special memories for me. I hope that it continues to be wonderful for so many years To come!! If you were looking for a place to relax and unwind, this is it!

We stayed for two unseasonably cold and windy days in April, but still had a great experience! A special shout-out to Ashley who went out of her way to take care of us, especially since we were staying in a tent in the frigid weather. Also a big thanks to Jason for helping us get firewood and a grate to cook out food; he checked in on us later which I appreciated. All the staff were attentive and genuinely focused on making sure campers had everything they needed. We loved the easy access to the ocean, and the bathrooms were very clean. We really wished the weather had been warmer so we could take advantage of the amazing pool; the hot tub felt amazing though. Our daughter had a blast with the bounce house, playground, and the train ride. We’re looking forward to coming again when it’s less cold.

We rented the newly built Coastal Cottage. It was simple yet had the most useful amenities (fridge/freezer, small counter space, wall hooks, newer wall HVAC, ceiling fan/light, glass sliding door, larger deck w table and chairs). It was a nice upgrade as compared to the older brown cabins. The public bathrooms were also remodeled from rooms w shower or toilet stalls into individual shower/sink/toilet suites. My only complaint: a ramp over the dunes to access the beach w roller carts would make this an A+++ experience! Everything you might need or want for a fun camping/glamping experience is on-site at the KOA shop. We really didn't have to go anywhere. We even found Jiffy Pop popcorn at the store and popped it over our fire pit. This place gets better every year I come.

This location is wonderful. Rodanthe is our favorite town on hatteras island so we were astatic that this resort is there. On the beach location so there is no need to drive anywhere. Great pool for bad beach days. The kitchen was stocked very well. Had absolutely everything we needed to cook three meals a day for a week for a family of four. Condo was clean and a nice size. We met other families that return there every year. We will definitely be returning.

Google
This is one of my favorite KOA's to stay at! Perfectly located where you can access the beach steps from your campsite. Amenities were updated and things were very clean. Only downside was the main bathhouse construction isn't finished yet, so the family bathhouse got a little busy. Otherwise, great experience and I will be staying here again the next time I'm in OBX.

Yelp
What an awesome and wonderful campground. We had a great vacation here at the Camp Hatteras KOA. The grounds are cleaned and maintained on a daily basis by workers 24hrs a day. The amenities were way above par. Huge pool with hot tub. Tiki bar. On site restaurant (Shielas). I love this place for the simple things. Super dog friendly, everyone waves and says hi, and fun activities all day long. The furthest campsite from the beach is only about a 4 minute walk. I would suggest this campground to anyone visiting OBX. It's clean, friendly and the best KOA I've ever been to.

Yelp
This is a great location. Staff was friendly and helpful. The fire pits could use an upgrade.

Yelp
Absolutely the best trip in many years to this campground. If I was going to note everything no one would read this but there are several areas I want to touch on. First - the people. This staff was the best we have seen in years and I will account for it being the best since I have been an adult coming here. It was good seeing old faces like Aaron and Cowboy (and Cowboy's wife who is among the nicest people you could ever meet) again. Russ as GM (and his "get it done" attitude wife Betsy) and Ashley as AGM has done a great job getting this place back in order with bathhouses being very well attended and probably the cleanest I have ever seen them. There wasn't a day that we didn't see folks out making this place be in as nice and clean as possible. Now let's call this section 1.2 that I'm going to dedicate to the Summershiners (the folks who worked with the kids and specifically ran the activities). This is the most I have ever seen since coming here as an adult. David, Jason, Daniel, and Cori were just the next level of amazing. Their interaction was what makes family memories and this being the place we have our summer family vacation worth it. Forget friendly, they made you feel like family. I tend to make friends with other campers but these guys brought back what made the KOA special for me as a kid only this time it was my son who has the memories to go along with it. Whether it is making glass lamps, the fun/glow train, pie in the face, ice cream/cotton candy socials or really anything activity-wise, these are the type of people you want representing you as a company. I really hope to see them again in future visits but know they will be amazing assets to wherever they end up (and I would like to reiterate if anyone in management is reading this - bring them back!). Facilities - last year had me a bit concerned, I won't lie. This year the dog park was I swear double the size, the pool was clean and ready for use, and again, the bathhouses (what I believe has to be the worst part of working a campground) were clean and well maintained. Laundry rooms were reasonable in cost and machines were working! I shouldn't sound so excited about that but to anyone who goes to campgrounds, you know that is a rarity. Now to the campsite itself. The only thing we are missing in the site we get is the small pavilion to keep the sun off. The grounds were well kept, easy to level to, and everything I needed to hookup with was easily accessible. Hands down my easiest setup of the year. Beach access was accommodating with all clean off areas functioning perfectly fine. Pet wash was very easy to use at the middle bathhouse and thank goodness with how our mutt ran through the sand and water. Bottom line- I whole hearted recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away. Yes we camp/glamp but they have more than that for those wanting to get away. All look well maintained. It's great seeing this place returned to what it once was and not to knock my childhood memories, probably a bit better.

Yelp
1. Maintenance staff pretty grumpy. 2. Choo choo train gone..just a truck pulling the bucket cars now Disappointing ! Music not for kids 3. The recycled tire mulch around the jumping blimp is horrible to walk on. The sun heating up the rubber around the blimp releases heavy metal fumes which is NOT at all healthy for the kids. Please bring back the sand!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great customer service. Friendly people. Great view of the sunset. Short walk over the sand dunes to the beach. They do offer free WiFi for guests but good luck on getting anything to stay connected to it. We are lucky if it stays connected for five minutes. Other than that I love it here. Pool, cafe, laundry, showers, playground for kids, playground for dogs, basketball, volleyball, trash pickup, etc etc

Yelp
Nice location on the outer banks Plenty of Rv sites , a very few tent sites, Camping cabins. With no bathroom or kitchen Two deluxe tents with bathroom, deluxe cabins Kitchen and bath, and vacation suites. I stayed in one of the vacation suites. Located on the top Floor of the main building , it was much better than expected. four suites have private balcony overlooking the pool. Suites are roomy and comfortable, nice walk in pool one area is 5 to 5 and a half ft deep as an adult end of the pool Also has a pool side bar, some grounds maintenance could be better but over all very nice , note: some RV sites in tje North East corner do get wet / flooded when it rains. Best camp ground on the outer banks

Yelp
Had a great time at KOA Hatteras. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The amenities were great, nearby the ocean which was just a short walk from the cabin. The only concern I had were the showers at the bath house. They really could use some attention, not the cleanest, a lot out of commission because issue with drainage. Overall we had a wonderful time though, hopefully next time we visit they will have made some improvements with their showers.

Yelp
We arrived around 9am on Saturday and our site was already vacant (previous campers left at 7:30) but the ladies in the office would not let us check in early. I offered to pay whatever they needed but they would not let us. Even though our site was ready, they would not let us set up. They offered to put us in another site on the second row right then. I asked why we couldn't go into the site we had already reserved. We paid premium price because we wanted to be backed up to the dunes. I'm wondering if they did all this trying to get us to take a cheaper site so they could have our site to rent to another camper who was able to stay longer. The Dune sites are way more expensive than most of the other sites. Hotels let you check in early, why not this KOA camp ground. I asked could we check in at 11:00, which is their check out time...she's said for us to wait around and she would see what she could do. They didn't call us until after 1pm to say we could check in. By that time we were on the beach fishing. This is very poor customer service and a very poor experience. The site sat vacant for hours and they wouldn't let us check in. I will never stay here again and I will definitely NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone. Go to Camp Hatteras, right beside KOA Much better experience!

Yelp
This is our third time camping here and it is my wife's favorite KOA but on one of our nights of camping here a live band was playing called The Carolina Sweaters and I am camping here with my two young kids and my son and I were shocked and appalled to hear the band saying "Godd@mn motherf@@ker" as part of their lyrics on their last song. And they kept repeating those words over and over and over. Plus I'm sure the entire campground heard it since im pretty close to the ocean and they were playing at the pool. We are a Christian family and this is highly offensive. Maybe this KOA is not as family friendly as we thought. Im not saying don't come here but find out what live band is playing before you get here and maybe stay away from days this blasphemous band is making its appearance. Or just stay indoors or go do something off the campground. I'm very disappointed that a well known KOA would allow this at their "family friendly" campground.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing vacation in our RV ! We are first time campers in our RV. And I'm so glad we chose KOA. Everyone down here is so nice we had wood delivered to our campsite. We had ice delivered to our campsite, and everyone has been so friendly and you are always no matter where you are in the campsite either cabin RV or tent you're always near the pool or the beach ! We will definitely be returning maybe bring the whole family next time!

Yelp
Nice and relaxing. All facilities are clean and the grounds are well maintained. Friendly staff are always there if you should need most anything. The pool is large and kept clean as well as the hot tub. Children have many areas to play from the pirate ships to the jumping pad to planned daily activities. Private dog lots are available at a few sective sites with a shelter for your fur babies. Most site have a shelter with picnic tables. Beach access is good and the sunset on the sound side is worth your time. Great to bring children or couples only. They have cabins and cottages fir rent as well as some room in the main building. Very nice.

Yelp
You can judge a business by how they handle things when everything goes bad. We got stuck during a relentlessly difficult 3 day wind and rain storm. The only road got washed out and closed. Our site was up against the dune so we were VERY worried. It was a very scary 3 days! The management was constantly texting us updates and comfort. We went to the office for advice and they were very reassuring and helpful. The bathrooms are very clean. The Wifi wasn't the best but it worked! Verizon was 3 bars.

El J.

Yelp
Main building is ok but the rest of the facility is VERY poorly maintained. Bathrooms filthy and poorly maintained- rusty fixtures, grout and tile are awful, AC does not work. Wi-Fi is nonexistent except in the clubhouse. Pool is disgusting with seagulls swimming in the shallow end, bird droppings all over the deck and stairs including hand rails. Is it too much to wash this off daily? Children play areas look like they have not been used in years. This facility needs some major reinvestment. Staff is very nice and the location is great. But the park itself is well past its prime.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at a KOA campsite. We stayed in a deluxe cabin that overlooked the ocean. It was a cozy little place to stay with an amazing view. The cabin was nice but needed to be updated. The shower was very small with the shower curtain being too low so it was easy to step on. The vents needed to be dusted along with the vent to the air conditioner. It was advertised as sleeping four but I'm not sure about that. The campground was very clean and was very well run. The clubhouse was the place to be with Sheila's Kitchen, a store, gameroom, and Tiki Bar. The pool was very large and nice. The hot tub was large but there were always so many people in it that it was not worth getting into. At night there was always entertainment by the pool and Tiki Bar. We would stay here again and highly recommend the campground.

Yelp
Absolutely have not invested in gravel for the sites the camp sites are right on top of each other on the dune . Not a bang for your buck .This is the 3rd year and last .There is much better sites up and down the Rd

Yelp
Can't say enough great things about this location. Ability to walk out of the camper and take the dog for a walk on the beach, super friendly and helpful staff and location location location. We arrived with a damaged awning, after extreme winds on the bridge. They were super helpful sharing a ladder and offering help taking down the broken pieces. The let us use their dumpsters without an added fee. The store had everything we needed and the building is beautiful with an amazing view and rockers to take it all in. The dog park was perfect and the ability to share the beach with them was fabulous. The location was perfect we could drive to see the horses, light houses and drive down to take the ferry. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Sometimes I really wish I was the camping tight. Unfortunately I'm one of those that prefers the comforts of home and the amenities that condos in hotels have to offer. I have to admit that I have seen koa campgrounds in a variety of locations that are absolutely breathtaking. In this one is no exception it was very clean, in a great location, and I'm sure the people were paying one tenth of what we were paying for a night to stay in a gorgeous location. Tell the campground was only 4 blocks away from where we were renting a house. What's even better this koa sets right on the Atlantic Ocean, how great is that! Whenever I travel to places on the water I try to be waterfront to enjoy the views and see the weather and the water and just enjoy nature. Maybe I've got it all wrong, maybe I should be doing the camping route and enjoy more of the outdoors than I already do. I have to say this KOA campground would be enough to change most people's opinions about camping. I know it certainly has me questioning my idea about camping. What's a girl to do? Camping, is it in my future, it just may well be.

Yelp
Rude checkin clerk. They charged a $25 'early' check in fee. In this case, 'early' was 45 minutes. Also, cabin was dirty - copius sand on the floor and hairs in the bed. HUGE THUMBS DOWN for this KOA lovation
google avatar

Veronica R.

Yelp
We have stayed at a lot of KOA's in different states, usually our go to. So we booked this KOA for the great experiences we have had previously. Our cabin was dirty, the WiFi did not work nor did the blow dryer, a/c or tv channels our bed was broke as well. Because we were only staying 2 nights it wasn't a big deal and the a/c went out the day we were leaving. We definitely had to sanitize the cabin before staying it was clearly not done we actually cleaned it better prior to check out then they had cleaned it. The shower only had 10min of warm water. For $250 a night it was not worth it. Stay in the cheaper cabin and use the camp showers you will save money and not waist it on things that are broke and unclean. I did like the walking distance to the beach and the pool was large enough to social distance. I never once saw anyone come out and sanitize the chairs or tables though. The restaurant near the pool had ridiculous hours so don't plan your meal around them. The camp itself was busy but it's summer so it was expected. Dog park was nice and maintained parking is limited upon check in. Store had some stuff but over priced. I think it would be a nicer experience in the off season and honestly if you wanna save money they had tons of camping spots near by non KOA that looked just as nice.

Yelp
This review is about a journey my wife and are making up the Atlantic Coast in a RV. I try to be fair and honest with each review I write, however you have to keep in mind that each thing I experience others may not. The Outer Banks of North Carolina are beautiful and deserve a five star, however this review is not about the Outer Banks, it's about the worst RV Resort I've stayed in since we started our journey. When you arrive at the Cape Hatteras KOA you will be impressed with the beautiful buildings, friendly staff that greets you and the massive campground store. This is just a front for a campground that is plaque with problems that quickly bleed over to being your problems. I'm going to list all the issues below, you be the judge as to whether this is a campground you want to take your family to. Keep in mind this is a $120.00 per night site as you read this review. My first issue concerns the KOA employee behind the welcome desk. I had called as I have every other RV park before arrival to inform them of a very important package being shipped to them in my name. This package contains life saving medication for me. The clerk greeted me with a pickup notice at the Post Office. She claimed the postal service was to lazy to bring the package in. However she somehow knew that it contained medication. I thought this to be odd. The next morning I received a phone call from the same clerk that the post office was going to return my medication. So I quickly stopped eating breakfast and drove my truck down to the post office. They had a different version of the story. The mail carrier stated he tried to deliver my package twice however each time the KOA clerk felt of its contents and assumed it was medication and quickly refused to sign for it. Our second issue were the ants. I'm no dummy, I know at sea level ants will be on the ground, however I learned they terminated their contract with the exterminator company after the flood in September of 2018. My first two complaints fell on deaf ears about the ant issue, only until my RV was over run and my wife and I spent one of our $120.00 days cleaning dead ants out of our RV, they finally sprayed. I used an entire gallon of ant killer all over the outside and inside of my RV. My next experience may not sound important to non pet owners and pet owners will only be able to understand why this is a problem. I took my dogs for a walk and started looking for the doggie bag station. They are almost non existent. I finally ran across a KOA worker sitting on a golf cart. I ask where the bags were located and his answer was rather shocking. He said there may be some located at the front of the park or at the back of the park however don't count on it. They never get checked. I finally found one doggie bag location which I had to navigate around tons of golf carts parks in the sand. After retrieving several I had to wash my feet off from all the sand. I don't want to leave out that this area is designated as a dog area ( not located on the beach but inside the park) however the grass was knee deep and it's located on protected turtle dunes‍. Next is how high the grass was. My little dog disappeared in one section only to return to find several ticks on her hair. I was told once again they terminated their landscaping company. Now for the big one. My wife and I were leaving the RV to explore the surrounding areas but we noticed our power was out. I looked outside to find an electrician playing in the main power box. Conduit was spread all over several campsites and power cords were run across the street to other sites. I called the office and notified them of our power loss and the employee stated she knew about it. We took our dogs with us due to the extreme heat in the RV. We arrived back four hours later to find what looked like an electrical nightmare surrounding our campsite and still no power. I called the office and the employee stated this was the first she time she heard that our site didn't have power‍. Once the KOA employee arrived he found my box had been fried along with my $200.00 surge protector. I later learned from another source they were warned not to open the park until it had been completely re-wired due to the huge flood in September. Please don't let me leave out all the wife beaters and drunks hanging outside the bathroom area waking me up around midnight fighting and acting like fools. I'll sum the rest of my review up quickly, they paid for my surge protector and the rest of our stay was calm even though all the RVs were packed in like sardines. I've stayed in many campgrounds, however this is the first one that ever square inch of the property is used to squeeze campers on top of each other. I write about my experience not about anyone else's. Is this a top rated KOA? No way

Yelp
So disappointed with the "Deluxe Cabin" we rented. We paid $326 for the night. The floor was so dirty when we arrived...we had to sweep it just to walk on it. The kitchen wreaked of fish...pretty sure it was the hood vent. The bathroom door was so dirty...I had to wipe it down because I couldn't stand looking at it. The remote for the living room tv didn't have batteries and the bedroom tv had no remote at all. To add insult to injury they charged us an early check in fee of $25 for checking in at 2:00pm instead of 3pm. We went to the front desk to discuss our concerns. An apology would have been great, but all we received was an offer to come and "spruce it up a little."

Aaron V.

Yelp
First time at this campsite or any KOA location. Was a bit irked when I checked in, was told to have a nice stay. I got in my truck and drove to my spot. When I came around to make for an easier back up, I was met by an employee that was a dick because I didn't wait to be escorted. I didn't know that was a thing. Other than that bozo, it was a good experience.

Yelp
Incredible location. Friendly staff. Lousy internet but you're not here to cruise the web. Cruise the beach!

Yelp
I've been to this camp ground 40 years ago and now I have returned to see the outer banks again. Love how close it is to the Atlantic Ocean and the camp workers are so nice. It's unique in that you can go to the Atlantic in the morning and watch the sunrise and walk across the street in their auxiliary site to watch the sunset in the evening. A very raw experience indeed. Hot tub that stays open til 10 and a great laundry room with massive marble folding table. A great place to relax

Yelp
Let me start by saying we are long time customers of 5 summers now and have always loved the Cape Hatteras KOA. We came up in March for a birthday weekend by the beach. Knowing that the weather was going to be chilly, we were excited to be able to enjoy the hot tub, and even called to make sure it was open...it was. Upon arrival however we found out it was broken. They worked to fix it right away, but it was not warm enough for use until the last day of our trip. We also had trouble with the check in procedures. We knew we would be needing a late check in, and would be arriving around 9:30 PM. We called the KOA as soon as we hit the road around 5:30, only to get the voicemail that the office was already closed. We had not received any details on how to check into our cabin late, could not find anything on the website, and did not have an after hours number to call. This was quite stressful as we were getting ready to make a 4 hour drive, uncertain as to which cabin was ours and how we would get in. Simple communication on the website or in the confirmation email would easily fix this problem. Reservation hours listed on the confirmation email would have been helpful as well, making me aware that I needed to call sooner. Among other problems: the smoke detector was beeping consistently due to low battery, and the two bedroom cabin we reserved was actually one bedroom with a loft that you had to crawl in hands and knees into. We brought some of our concerns up with the front desk, to receive only a poor attitude and "what would you like me to do". Well, we would like for you to treat your returning customers with respect and helpful service, and to accommodate some of the problems that we faced. Finally after speaking with the manager, we received one night free. We thank you for that, but do hope that you will consider addressing some of these concerns.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. We visited for the first time in July. We were able to get a spot last minute just a row away from the water. This place was clean, has tons of amenities, and can deliver supplies to your spot if needed. We enjoyed the pool with our 5 month old. Our pup was welcomed and able to hangout on her leash at the camp site and the beach. We barbecued and had a fire some nights for s'mores. There are plenty of outdoor showers, bathrooms, and family sized bathrooms with showers. Which was perfect since we had the baby. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This was our 2nd stay at this campground. Once in 2019 and now Aug 2022. Disappointed in the upkeep of this campground. The owners are not investing back into the property. Many of the sites could use upgrades. The roads are horrific with a lot of standing water. We left our trip a day early. Not impressed.

Yelp
We stayed in the deluxe cabin and it was great! Everything was clean-WiFi worked fine-staff was friendly. It was off season so can't comment on all the extras. The k9 playground was great. Thanks for a great little get away!

Yelp
We reserved a room with a cooktop and full sized refrigerator only to be told our room was given to another guest.

Yelp
What a fantastic place to visit!!! KOA at Cape Hatteras has to be one of my favorite places I have visited. The moment you walk through the front doors of the campgrounds welcome center you feel very welcomed. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. If you want a fantastic place to stay, with amazing views, and a fabulous pool and hot tub, LOOK NO FURTHER!

Yelp
beautiful campground, reasonable rates. I wish there were stricter rules about the alcohol consumption around the pool, it should be kept at campsites. I even saw a couple women in the pool with there drinks and one was holding a child. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Our cabin leaked water whenever a storm came through so don't leave anything on the floor that you don't want wet. Not sure how or where it came in but puddled on the floor pretty good. Bathrooms are very clean, showers are cleaned often so grab it first after cleaned because people don't clean up after themselves. I love that this campground is directly on the ocean and has the bay on the other side of the street. Plenty to do without leaving the campground.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff. Family oriented. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Camp ground very clean. Right on the beach. They lose a 2 stars for having a warm hot tub not a hot hot tub. For $62 a night to park a little tent I expect the hot tub to be hot. We paid the premium price over cheaper places for the hot to be hot not warm. Two stars might seem harsh for that but it was the reason they were selected. I can stay in a hotel for not much more it is simply daddy promised a big camping trip.

Yelp
This was our very first trip in our Winnebago (from Ohio). When we arrived, a lot of the campsites had standing water due to recent rains. We could tell there had been coastal flooding recently as we were driving in on N.C. 12. Though we were bummed to have a soggy site, we could hear the ocean waves from our picnic table. Site was easy to get in to. The park staff are friendly and helpful and the park is well maintained. Showers are nice. The beach is gorgeous and a short walk from even the farthest site. The pool is AMAZING! One of the best KOA pools we have ever been to. On our last night there, we were able to have a campfire on the beach which we had looked for to- BUT on that night mosquitoes of biblical size and numbers were more than we could contend with. We didn't have any issues the entire trip until then. Thankfully it was our last night. There is not a lot to do outside the campground within walking distance at least (we didn't have a tow vehicle). We walked to a coffee shop, a shop and Lisa's Pizzeria (awesome!!). Mostly quiet, non-commercialized area though. A great escape! Overall, we would definitely recommend this campground!

Yelp
Very happy with the location and proximity to the beach. It's great to be able to walk down the street and be right on the water. The camper spots are clean, grass is cut and maintained properly. However, the bathrooms and showers are disgusting. They weren't clean one time I was here. There was sand and dirt all over the floor, paper towels and trash over flowing, and bugs all over the showers. One day they had a "closed for cleaning" sign up for 2 hours and no one was inside cleaning them. If they would just put one person on twice a day bathroom cleaning duty it would've been a great stay.

Yelp
Download the KOA app, become a member of KOA, & book this campground, now! This is our second time here (first was in September 2016) & we love it. Centrally located in a great area for beach & local lovers. Ample pull in parking for registration for RV's, cabins, or tents. Large white building with stairs our front (elevator is located behind stairs & to left). Go to second floor to check in for parking pass, find out local info, grab a cup of joe, snacks, camping essentials, etc. If arriving after office hours, which vary from season to season to check ahead of time for hours of operation, please go to the silver box on second floor with late check in info. Alphabetized maps & info is located here. If you are here before they are closed after checking in you will be shown how to get to your site by a friendly guide in a golf cart. Arrive at your site, hook up (if need be), set up, & get to enjoying the area. Many sites are paved & in good condition. Some are gravel. Remember you get what you pay for. They have a large outdoor pool with cool slides, 2 jump pillows, a cool pirate ship perfect for photos, pirate ship playground (under construction as of 11/24/18), the beach, etc. make sure to bring enough food for a few days or else you will be making a grocery trip out about 15-20 minutes each way to find most groceries. Enjoy your trip!

Yelp
I have stayed here my hole life the staff are great and friendly very awesome place to stay the kid can run around safely it is super fun to have bond fire on the beach the play ground is really cool thinking about building one it is packed this year but that is ok the surf is good fishing is good trying to catch a shark down there everyone has a lot of fun that's the best part we meet new friends every time we go it is just super fun

Yelp
Nice campground but not sure they have enough staff to keep the amenities up and running. The pool (which was huge and fantastic) had only one trash can, the kid slides at the pool broke every day we were there and weren't fixed until the next day, and the blow up bouncy/pillow was out of order for our entire one week trip.

Yelp
Awesome stay!! We have been trapped due to Hwy 12 being shut down...KOA has been great with helping us!

Yelp
Location, Location, Location. When you're on the Outer Banks, you're never far from the ocean, but this KOA sits right on it. We were tent camping in early May, which may have been the best time to hit it for multiple reasons: The off-peak price was right, it wasn't too busy or crowded, and the temperature was manageable. I would imagine that each of those measurements could become untenable in the dead of summer; the heat especially, as there was no shade to be had. While we went the tent route, the campground also has cabins, as most do. This particular KOA also features deluxe cabins and "vacations suites". They don't come cheap, but I'd imagine not much does around these parts. It also features a playground and a jumping pillow, and while KOAs typically encourage discreet alcohol use, some of our neighbors during our stay weren't making any attempt to hide it, and beer and wine are for sale in the camp store.

Yelp
The location is perfect, the pool is nice, and the restaurant is great. The downside for us is that we were staying in a rustic, no bathroom cabin, so had to use the bath houses. The showers were not clean. With the high price of this campground, I expected more. The store and the restaurant open late and close early. The other party traveling with us had an RV and reserved a "full hook up" site. Unfortunately, the "full hook up" did not include sewage. They had to pay extra to have the tank emptied. Again, with the high price of this campground, it should have been included.

Yelp
Horrible! Wasn't warned of the thistles, although common to the area, we weren't familiar with them until our dogs suffered the consequences. They stick to their fur and in the pads of their feet, very painful for them. Ended up carrying them at every walk to softer grass area, made sure to check them after every walk and cut them out as needed. Trash on ground of campsite when we arrived, orange peels, plastic lids to juice bottles, dog poop on beach, very narrow beach with steep drop off and signs for strong undertow. Don't waste your money!

Yelp
We just returned from a weeks vacation at this KOA and I have to say - IMPRESSIVE! We were one row back from the dunes, within a 2 minute walk to the beach. Really nice. We like KOAs for camping because they are always well appointed and clean. This one is no exception as they work really hard to maintain their Presidential rating. The bathrooms are cleaned once a day - which should be enough, but with the amount of campers [and I have to say sloppy, piggish campers] the bathrooms had a tendency to be gross by the end of the day. Not the fault of the KOA by any means, but fellow campers that don't care. I always wondered if while at home if these campers actually left their bathroom sinks looking the way the did the ones at the KOA? Oh well. There are so many things to do - mini golf, arcade, bounce pillow, playground, bike/banana bike rentals, movie night, karoke night, tye dyed t-shirt day, PIRATE DAY! yay!, etc...to much to list. The have a nice store, a bit pricey, but to be expected for being onsite and they do take credit cards [but not debit cards], and you have to purchase at least $10 worth at a time. One day we had a purchase of $9.96 and they turned us away. That didn't make me happy, but, sigh, rulez is rulez I guess. The cafe' sells awesome pizza [and I am not a pizza fan, but this is pretty darn good] and their pancake breakfasts are a deal $3 for adults, $2 for kids and it includes 2 large pancakes, 2 sausage patties and a juice for the kids [I think the adults has 3 pancakes] Very delicious and cheap! Dairy Queen and Atlantic Coast cafe are within walking distance as is the Sound, right across the street. We like Rodanthe as it isn't as crowded and commercialized as Nags Head and the beaches farther north on Hatteras. It has more of a hometown feel as opposed to a tourist mecca. If you like to camp you will not be disappointed by visiting this KOA.

Yelp
Stayed in one of the beach facing cabins, while the cabin itself was nice and the view was excellent, there were some things lacking. -the internet access was a joke, never worked. I had a cellular broadband card, so that connection worked fine. The koa connection by the main building seems ok for a little while, but it failed after awhile. That's ok, because one less picture of an alcoholic beverage (wife not me) was not posted on Facebook as a result. -tv reception was pathetic. Lower analog channels were unwatchable, and many of the channels that they had on their list they give you do not even come in at all. A guy ran a new cable, while the picture is better, I still don't get many of the channels they advertised on the piece of paper they give you. I wanted nfl on Sunday with a decent picture, so all good there. There is no espn, small bummer. -the shampoo dispenser in the wall of the tub fell off of the wall on use. Nothing like a dangerous slippery shower covered in shampoo. Otherwise, great view, clean facilities, and nice staff. Also, the music they play at the pool is really good. If you are looking for a good obx location I would definitely recommend this koa. If you are somewhat more attuned to digital stuff, I recommend you do not rely on koa's facilities. If you have a broadband card or a satellite dish for your rv, you should be good to go. I would definitely go back. The overall location and surrounding area is just too nice to pass up. The staff was always cool and did a lot to accommodate their guests.

Yelp
Do not tent camp here if you want privacy or shade! If you have a camper, be prepared for close neighbors. I suggest a cabin. A/C, a closed door and not in the heart of the campground. Though they charge extra to reserve a certain site, I would be sure to ask for a cabin that does not face rt 12. We were in 268, and it was great. The facilities were super clean. The bathroom was freezing??? The beach is a mere two minute walk away and wonderful!!!

Yelp
How can life get any better than camping at the beach?!?!? This KOA has lots to offer for its campers. There is a swimming pool, an arcade, a pizzeria, a gift shop and store (alas, does not accept credit cards), an ATM, a computer (for limited use, time-wise), a volleyball (sand) court, a basketball court, a mini putt putt course, a horseshoe ring, a dog walk area, banana bike rentals and more! And the best part....access to the beach! You're really right there on the beach! The bathrooms and showers are very clean. You just might have an encounter or two with mosquitoes...but hey, you're camping and that's expected! There are places outside of KOA to check out. Souvenirs shops are a-plenty. Quite a few places to dine. And there's a Dairy Queen just down the street! Plenty of bait and tackle shops if you're here to go fishing. Again, what's better than camping at the beach?!?!

Yelp
First off this place is awesome. And bugs are part of camping. Check in and hit the beach. The hosts are always there with a smile and remember your name after 2 hours. The pool is huge. The kids love the different levels of depth and the slides. There is a couple of lanes for exercise. If you don't camp the deluxe cabins look awesome. Private and fun. It is also a very clean campground. Sells beer in the gift store.

Yelp
Fabulous week of vacation, sunny, great beaches, typical windy NC coast but kids had a blast. KOA is clean, super accommodating, can always find someone to help you figure things out. Trash removal is prompt and efficient. Bathrooms are clean and showers are great. No complaints, would stay here over and over again. Walk to the beach or pool in 5 minutes anywhere in the camp. Lots of grass and cover, shop hours right now are only to 6pm but it never bothered us. We got our beach fire permit early, stocked up on marshmallows and graham crackers and were good to go. Highly recommend.
