"The word “heritage” need not evoke a stuffy yesteryears vibe. At this intimate boutique hotel in the Central Business District’s Heritage Square, owners Johan and Victoria Nel have lovingly restored a 1780s building into a stylish inner-city retreat. Old meets new as rooms with soaring ceilings and exposed brick are bedecked in local art, and themes range from colonial period to Asian-inspired, complete with silk curtains and bamboo touches. Breakfast is served in a lovely vine-laden courtyard where you can find a moment of tranquility that might let you forget you’re in the heart of the city. But why should you want to forget? If you’re the type of traveler who prefers to forgo wheels in favor of walking around, you can’t find a better location. Bree Street teems with new restaurants and a clutch of shops displaying works by burgeoning South African artists and designers, and the hotel is walking distance to all the historic sights of the CBD as well as the colorful houses of the Bo-Kaap neighborhood."

Stayed with my daughter for 4 nights and we had a very comfortable stay. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Room was very comfy and clean. Breakfast was tasty. I liked the location, we felt safe walking to bars and restaurants (lots of good ones) nearby and Uber is an easy option for longer trips. You can walk to Bo-Kaap, the market and district 6 museum from the hotel (day time). As others mentioned, it was noisy Saturday night - car racing outside - but not so much the other nights. Being small, family run and historic it had a very nice vibe that we both liked.

Cape Heritage Hotel has charm and character, but our Standard Room facing the square and its restaurants was very noisy, both from outside and from the hallway. The fact that earplugs are provided says a lot. While the building itself is lovely and the style boutique, it feels a bit rough around the edges and more like a three-star experience overall. Check the room carefully or book one of the higher-end options for a better chance of a quieter stay.

Beautiful old hotel that has been tastefully renovated. We had a massive bed in a large and comfortable room. It had a slipper bath and a separate shower. The staff were so helpful and nice. We chose to have breakfast there every day. Our stay felt more like being at home than in a hotel.

If I could rate this hotel 5000 stars, I would. Our 4 night stay in Cape Town was made even more special by the people at this hotel. The lobby was beautiful, the rooms were spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We loved the art on the walls and the gallery in the front of the hotel. The location was also perfect for walking to shops, restaurants and other attractions. When I come back to Cape Town, I’m staying here! Thank you to all of the staff who made our experience so wonderful 🩷🩷

Should have given greater weight to the reviews re noise. We chose this hotel instead of staying in the V&A Waterfront area as our Travel Agent said this was a cosmopolitan area whereas V&A was touristy. Yes there are a lot of bars and restaurants within reasonable walking distance but there is no way we would consider walking at night (fortunately Uber is cheap), it didn't even give a great vibe during the day....the area was quite dingy. Yes its a nice old property, the room was a decent size and the bathroom modern enough, but the noise during the night even in our 'Luxury Room' was unbearable. The fact the staff mention at checkin there are earplugs was a sign of things to come..., I regret noting bringing my noise cancelling headphones as the earplugs were useless against the constant car hooning outside during each night. There is also nightclub noise but this was minor compared to the cars. I acknowledge there is nothing the staff can do about this and the police would have bigger issues to deal with in Cape Town rather than worry about burn outs etc. This was the last stop during our 3 week holiday and the lack of sleep almost spoilt the whole trip. Having going to the V&A for sundowners and dinner on our last night its clear we should have stayed in that area, it would be quieter and safer.||No issues with the staff, cleanliness of the property and breakfast but if you can't get a good nights sleep the positives are irrelevant. Interestingly when leaving our driver asked why we would stay at that hotel for the exact reasons we mentioned. To summarise its a decent property in the wrong place...we are unable to recommend.

The hotel is located in the heritage area. Lot's of restaurants nearby. The rooms are individual and clean. Staff are exceptionally friendly. Our room was located on the side and opposite a car park which was noisy at night. The area has an arts event on the first Thursday of the month which was exceedingly noisy until 1 a.m. There is no respite from the noise in the room. The hotel does inform you about this on your welcome sheet. The hotel, as other reviewers say, has a bar behind it which can also be noisy.|Great breakfast.

Amazing service and lovely hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and couldn’t have been happier. Great welcome with an offer of a drink and a brilliant breakfast in a beautiful courtyard. I needed to see a doctor and the staff called for me and were extremely helpful- over and above which was very very helpful. Easily walkable to V&A and Ubers are so easy from there to anywhere. Some good food / drink options just opposite- generally an excellent location. When I next return to the city I’ll definitely stay there. The service made it outstanding.

My better half and I were fortunate to visit Cape Town, staying 14 nights at the Cape Heritage Hotel on Bree St - what a truly fabulous find and a gem of a location !!!||Despite check-in being in the afternoon, when arriving off an early morning flight we were welcomed in a genuine and friendly way, whatever drink we wished for was provided and staff worked hard to ensure our room would be ready as soon as possible - which it was within an hour.||Throughout our stay, all staff are outstanding - clear they have a real pride about what they do plus want to ensure a stay is as pleasurable and smooth as possible !! Friendly, always taking an interest plus seeking to enhance a trip to where ever you are going with a bit of local knowledge, every one of them is a credit to the Cape Heritage Hotel.||Hotel is located in an excellent part of the city, surrounded by outstanding eating venues, a short walk up to Bo-Kaap and about a 10/15 min stroll down to the V&A waterfront. Very vibrant, safe and very friendly.||Breakfast can be served inside or out - we always sat outside under a beautiful vine - the oldest documented in the Southern Hemisphere plus was situated in a historical courtyard style area. So much fresh choice and service fantastic. Always worth taking time to read the daily "thought for the day" posted on the info board !!!||Bedroom was excellent, very clean, bed exceptionally comfortable plus bathroom/shower was a joy after a long day pout and about. Air conditioning worked a treat (plus was quiet compared to many we have experienced. Nice small touches on a daily basis such as info on weather for following day, a daily fresh biscuit/cookie left etc. They also provide a beach bag with towels/sunscreen and plates if heading off to one of the many beaches for a day.||Have already enthused to several regarding Cape Town, including a couple of former South African residents who were thinking about returning for a holiday and catching up with friends - 100% recommending the Cape Heritage Hotel to them. Thank you for enhancing what was an outstanding time in Cape Town - we will be back !!!!
