Western Australia for the Food Is the Next Great Food Lover's Destination

"Tucked into the patchwork hills of the Margaret River wine region, Cape Lodge is a three-hour drive or 45-minute flight south of Perth. This country getaway sits on 40 acres of vineyards, native bush, and lakes a short drive from peaceful towns like Margaret River, Dunsborough, and Yallingup. The region is celebrated for food and wine, and the award-winning Cape Lodge Restaurant is arguably the best place to sample everything from White Rocks veal to prized black Périgord truffles. Bellies filled, guests can meander rows of vines, relax by the lake, or retreat to their spacious rooms, graced with country-style quilts, embroidered pillows, and fresh-cut flowers. Travelers will want to explore the area’s wild beaches (the lodge is less than two miles from the Indian Ocean), karri tree forests, winetasting rooms, artisan markets, and cave systems once inhabited by Aboriginal Australians."

Cape Lodge (Margaret River, Western Australia) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Unless you’re a wine connoisseur familiar with Chardonnay varietals, the Margaret River region of southwestern Australia may be something of a mystery to you. Here’s a quick update: slightly inland from the Indian Ocean, the vineyard-surrounded town is located about three hours’ drive from Perth. The recently renovated Cape Lodge is one of a few grand estates in the area. Boasting an award-winning restaurant, its own lake and vineyard, as well as easy proximity to beaches, a cave-filled national park, and, of course, all the viticultural attractions a wine lover could desire, the Lodge is a peaceful retreat far from, well, pretty much everything." - Tablet Hotels

One of the very best hotels I’ve ever stayed at! The service was fantastic from the moment we arrived. We were warmly welcomed by Rosa, a lady working on the front desk, who showed us to our rooms. The grounds are maintained very well, in perfect condition, the warm (!!!) outdoor pool didn’t smell of chlorine, and felt very clean and well kept. The rooms were lovely, bright, clean and spacious. The restaurant was fantastic, all very fresh food with excellent service. I could not recommend the cape lodge more. We did breakfast, dinner, afternoon high tea, and wine tasting which were all included in our booking package. I would definitely recommend to a friend and return again.

We loved Cape Lodge from the moment we arrived! Wonderfull warm welcome from reception. Room was beautiful, spacious and immaculate with so many special welcoming and thoughtful touches. Beautiful breakfast and dinner. Complimentary afternoon tea and wine tasting an added bonus. Beautiful grounds. Lovely quiet pool area. Highly recommend.

A beautiful experience on the lovely upkeep of the grounds, cleanliness, service and the amazing food. The stay in the lodge was amazing with extremely generous size rooms and bathrooms. I do have to compliment the view and the toiletries they provided the scents were amazing. I will definitely be returning.

We came for a diner only and it was amazing, the balance between nice atmosphere , good service , friendly staff were there and you can feel it. Love that the table were not close to each others and the food flavors were well put together , chapeau chef.! We got the chance to say “thank you” to the chef. Highly recommended. And thank you Matteo for the recommendation.

What a Brilliant Staycation for our Birthdays!!! We had room 15 overlooking the garden and lake and it was wonderful..spacious, stylish with complimentary gits and wines included. The balcony was a joy to sit in the morning and evening enjoying the birds and reading our books. Breakfast was simple yet all you could want and I got addicted to their gorgeous chai compot bowl. The staff are amazing ( they seem mostly Italian and Spanish)..a special thank you to Sylvia.. and were always friendly and upbeat. We did a lot of activities here on our 3 day staycation that we decided to eat on the balcony of our room at night having bought all our essentials to make a couterie board of our own.. (Cape lodge does offer these) We ate in the restaurant for my birthday and the food was delicate and divine( especially the pate) and they even put a candle in my desert..Gracie.. The grounds are immaculately kept and there is a small walking trail and pool. We love very firm pillows and ours were extremely soft..when I asked if they could be changed they were changed immediately..well done. Thank you for an incredible place and such upbeat staff which are the backbone..🫶🫶🫶

A great stay, in a lovely location. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Great atmosphere. All the little things that were included like the minibar, wine experience, afternoon tea and the fact that breakfast was cooked individually to a higher standard and not just a common buffer are what made this place special and unique. The rooms were comfortable and spacious but one small point of criticism would be the shower pressure in our room wasn’t great. Will recommend to anyone visiting the area as really good value for the money you pay

Reception and staff were lovely, friendly & helpful. |Room was comfortable, although dated. The access to the room was extremely dirty, flies and dead bugs on the stairs and window sills, these were not cleaned for the duration of our stay. |Breakfast was very good, a serviced starter & main course. Delicious.|We had a set menu dinner on our first night this too was exceptional. |The gym ….. was disgusting for a 4-5 star establishment. |A room the size of a postage stamp fitting one treadmill and one static bike and no room at all for anything else. |The Pool ….. we were not advised that the pool would be out of order due to required repairs and maintenance !! ||The 1km walk around the lake/pond was access-able ||Altogether disappointing

The staff are very professional and friendly. The Lakeview Room 10 was not luxurious. Chipped cabinetry, defrosting flooded fridge on arrival. Dirty seating on a tiny viewing platform, overlooking lake. Semi open bathroom with bath in view from tv seating area. One 3 seater was a very shabby couch, additional seating consisted of a hardback type kitchen chair. All a bit depressing.||Our experience looked up when we sampled the food which was superb albeit minuscule. Included afternoon tea, although beautifully presented were in fact canapés 3 tiny savory and 3 sweet. Not a scone cake or sandwich in sight.||The grounds are beautifully maintained..||It gives me no pleasure to state that value wise the 2 night package for around $1500.00. was abysmal. Living locally I could not recommend Cape Lodge to visiting friends and family.

Yelp
I spent the weekend in Cape Lodge during a visit to the Margaret River. ACCOMODATION Accommodation is by no means cheap but I had a very enjoyable stay there. The lodges are small but this gives it a cosy feel. There is minimal reception at the lodge but they provide you with wireless internet. The soaps and shampoos provided are all from the local olive oil factory. These are all natural, organic and chemical free. My only complaint is that the lodges are quite close to each other and the walls quite thin so you can hear when people are walking past and sometimes hear faint noises from neighbouring lodges. FOOD Dinner was headed by Executive Chef, Tony Howell. I had mixed feelings about the dishes served. I tasted 2 entrees, mains and desserts and really enjoyed one but not the other. Winning menu Salmon Sashimi, Roasted Lamb Loin, Quince Frangipanni Losing menu Sous Vide Spatchcock, Catch of the day, Strawberries, chocolate mousee, pistachio nut praline The general consensus at the table was that the mash potato was by far the best dish at dinner. Breakfast is probably my favourite meal when I have the time to sit back, relax and enjoy my breakfast that someone else has prepared. In my opinion the breakfasts at Cape Lodge outdid the dinner. Buffet of cut fruit, muffins, croissants, different breads, preserves and a variety of yogurt and museli. The breakfasts from the kitchen were beautifully presented. My favourite was the Home Made Brioche (truffled scrambled eggs, garlic mushrooms, crispy prosciutto and truffle oil over french toast). Absolutely divine. Loved the classical music playing during breakfast which created a warm relaxing atmosphere. Great start to each morning. OVERALL Cape Lodge is a fantastic place to relax in the middle of a Vineyard. A great place to unwind but definitely not a small price to pay.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and restaurant absolutely stunning grounds. Dining in front of a lake and manicured gardens. Dinner and breakfast fantastic. Considering this place is regularly short listed as one of the best 10 places to stay and the chef is apparently renowned, the accomodation and meal prices are not bad.

Yelp
Our third stay here and I can only suggest that the Forest spa suites are by far the best rooms we have stayed in so far... Big spacious rooms with a sitting area, and a big bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and the most unique feature I have come across - heated floors! Great for all those cold day or night trips to the bathroom... The on-site restaurant is also highly rated and has a wonderful breakfast menu... Great place for a romantic weekend, but definitely not one with the kids!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic meals. We've had both breakfast and dinner here, and each meal was terrific. We can't fault anything about either meal or the attentive service. Without a doubt, I would recommend this restaurant to a friend.

Yelp
but Cape Lodge disappoints too often. No one bothered to come out and greet us as we drove up, so we wandered in to the check-in desk to see if anyone was around. There was a person there. After checking in we were shown to room 25, a so-called "Lake View" room. The lake is a tiny, green-tinged pond. As we walked up to the room's entrance I noticed two-foot tall grass growing out of the rain gutters and fully or partially disassembled swallow nests all over that side of the building. Cheap, hollow-core metal doors, Berber carpeting and very cheap bathroom fixtures greeted us in the room. The room was spacious, but, cheap decor on a larger scale is nothing to wish for. One nice touch was radiant floor heating in the bathroom. On the negative side I never did quite figure out how to control the room's heating/AC. So, sweltering or pretty chilly is what we got. Another positive is the location. Wineries surround the hotel and Margaret River is a short drive south and Dunsborough a short drive north. The staff was fine, but, since there are twenty-two or so rooms they really don't know if you're a registered guest, as non-guests may choose to visit and have a meal, I guess. Consequently, at breakfast you're asked to state your "Name and room number!" Once they got to recognize us the dining staff was very good. The grounds are quiet with some nice plantings here and there, but nothing very special. All-in-all, I would look closely at the competition because there has to be a better value out there.
