Please note - this review is for the entire Cape Queen Elizabeth walk, not just the walk to The Arch.
One of my favourite short bushwalks. A lot of people only go out to the beach to see The Arch but there is so much more to this walk if you venture further.
Take the track from the carpark to the beach. At low tide you can walk and clamber around the rocks to The Arch - at other times take the track over Mars Bluff (worth it for the views).
From area near The Arch, walk ENE to the end of the beach and then find the track up the cape (there is a vertical white pvc pipe sticking up out of the bushes marking the right spot).
The walk up the cape is relatively easy, with a couple of steep-ish sections. Try to avoid stepping near mutton bird hollows where possible.
The views from the end of the track (marked by a cairn) are absolutely well worth it but please take note - the cliffs are extremely high and there are no protections. Be aware at all times of where the edge is.
Simply head back the way you came to get back to the carpark. All up about 3-4 hours depending on fitness and speed of the group, and how long you spend at various stops.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- spectacular views
- plenty of wildlife (especially if you take binoculars) - seabirds, eagles, wallabies, reptiles and seals can all be seen at various points if you're lucky
- varying terrain, walking through coastal scrub, beach, dunes and bush
- awesome sea cliffs
NOTES:
- as mentioned, the cliffs are extremely high
- walk is suitable for older children, but I would not recommend for under 7 (some steep sections, some rock clambering, very high cliffs!)
- track can be a little overgrown, keep an eye out for snakes in warmer months
- recommend trousers if you don't like your legs getting scratched by the scrub
- no dogs allowed as this is a sensitive wildlife area
- no toilet facilities or rubbish bins - take out what you take in!
