"A 45-minute drive south of Athens lies a reputed resort in a spectacular pine-clad location between two beaches: the Grecotel Cape Sounio, which reopens this spring after a complete transformation, now with renovated rooms, new light-filled villas with pools, and new restaurants." - Nicola Chilton

"The Cape Sounio, a Grecotel that is on a cape in Athens facing the ancient temple of Poseidon. It is astonishing."

A truly beautiful part of the world. Nestled amongst a stand of trees on the Aegean coast, Cape Sounio boasts an incredible view out to the Temple of Poseidon. What a privilege it is to be able to eat breakfast with a private view of a monument built some 2200 years ago.||The hotel itself is modern, though its architecture and furniture tastefully reference the ancient Greek style, like an echo of the temple out by the cliffs. The villa rooms are bright and clean with a stylish, minimalist aesthetic. And, done this well, minimalism is a luxury in itself: at a place like this, you realise you don’t need very much at all; just rest, relaxation, sun, and great food.||Oh and what food it is. My wife and I have high standards when it comes to dining and we were delighted with the food at Cape Sounio. Why choose between quality and quantity when you can have both? We enjoyed a wide range of options for every meal, and every single one was beautifully prepared.||Perhaps the hotel’s greatest asset of all, though, is its staff. Everyone we encountered from the moment we arrived was warm, welcoming, and made us feel truly at home. Greek hospitality at its finest.||This is not a place where luxury means 4K flatscreen TVs or hi-tech shower controls. This trip offered us a much rarer luxury than that: the luxury of simply doing nothing, knowing that everything we needed was taken care of.

We booked a last minute half term break and found a great deal for Cape Sounio. We have stayed at 6 other Grecotels but this was by far the best one ever. The staff were something else, in my 20 years of travelling I have never had such exceptional service. The hotel is 5 star no doubt but the staff make it more like a 7 star hotel. I could not fault anything during our stay. The room was spacious and beautifully done. My kids loved the double showers! Great food, beautiful, sorry exceptional views from our room. The gym was amazing and sunset Pilates was just amazing! I would go back tomorrow if I could. Just an amazing hotel all round. Special call out to Panos, Alexandra and Nikoletta just to name a few of the exceptional staff who made our holiday amazing!

If you look for a good hotel outside Athens, this is the one. |It's big, but it still feels nice and stylish. Good vibe.|We booked a bungalow with private pool and it was fantastic. We had a nice garden to relax and a plunge pool to cool down. We were lucky to have sea/temple view and could enjoy the sun from early morning untill the end of the day.|Our room was located at the corner and had a modern design. The room was spacious and clean. |The food at the hotel is good. For breakfast and dinner we had the buffet option and the always served a wide variety of food. Each night a different selection. |Our lunch we enjoyed at the beach or at the restaurant down at the beach overlooking the water. Although the food was good I was a bit disappointed with the price/quality ratio. |The view from the main restaurant at night is fantastic. If there is a little breeze and its not too hot, eat outside. You will enjoy it.|The beach itself is fantastic, the sea is calm and not too deep and at the beach are many sunbeds so no stress to find a spot. The food and drink service at the beach is good. They were fast and very friendly.

This resort has the sweetest souls!!! I have never felt more taken care of or catered to. The staff is the definition of the word professional. Their food will leave you thinking about it for months to come and the views are fantastic! Definitely would recommend.

We booked Cape Sounio for a few days relaxation at the end of a week sightseeing in Athens during the October half term - which this year in the UK was quite late meaning we were at this hotel 31 Oct - 2 Nov. ||We were a little apprehensive knowing it was the close-season for miles around and this was the last weekend Cape Sounio would be open and concerned it might impact on the kids club and weather. We need not have worried, the weather was gorgeous and the hotel service, including kids club, was incredible. In fact, going when the resort was not as busy seemed to be a big benefit, nothing was over run, we had our pick of everything and the kids club ran as though it was full (much to our 9 year old boy’s delight, especially the Halloween costume making and party)||We also benefitted from an incredible upgrade to a wonderful bungalow with private pool and view over Poseidon’s Temple. The room was one of the recently renovated ones and the bed was HUGE and comfortable. The room had lots of amenities, including a mini robe and slippers for children! Though I must add the views of the temple throughout the resort are one of the wonderful things about the hotel’s location.||Like many others have said, the pools are chilly but the sea was still temperate. However, it didn’t stop us using either and a cold dip in the pool at our room before breakfast was very refreshing!||Food was great, huge breakfast and dinner selection. We had booked Half Board and kids lunch being included is a big bonus. We’d spent 5 days eating incredible food in Athens and weren’t disappointed by the food. Unfortunately the buffet food wasn’t particularly hot and went stone cold very quickly if you were eating outside. The highlight for us was the pasta dishes by the pool bar, special mention for the courgette, pistachio and burrata rigatoni! ||The cocktails at the bar are delicious and modern. We actually chose this hotel in part for its very wide range of non-alcoholic drinks, and a bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling wine was delivered to the room. ||Service was exceptional, from reception, lounge, restaurant and kids club everyone was friendly and service was swift. ||The hotel took care of booking us a cab to Poseidon’s temple and I would recommend walking back as it is a pleasant, downhill, walk back to the hotel.||I’d certainly recommend the hotel to anyone with a family, particularly at the end of the season, and we’ll be checking out other Grecotel sites in the future.

Wonderful service. So welcoming. The views of the Temple of Poseidon from every angle were amazing. The weather wasn’t the best, and we wish the outdoor hot tub was heated. Also great food. You have to rent the e-bikes. So fun and not as intimidating as you would imagine. Kid friendly but could also be romantic.

Starting with the smoothest check-in process, we had a warm & friendly welcome and the smiles, friendliness and help from the staff continued!!|Overall it was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. The staff really made it all worthwhile as they were all very helpful, polite and friendly. English language was not a problem either. The beach & the pools were clean, well kept & inviting! Only 1 minor complaint was that not one of your lovely ladies came to feed me grapes whilst I was lying down on the beautiful swings in the corridor!! (Joking!). I complained to my wife too!

Unforgettable stay in an amazing, stylish and extremely friendly hotel. All the staff made you feel welcomed without being pretentious or trying to sell stuff. Great facilities for the kids, safe space for the kids to wonder and play, lovely beach, outstanding buffet breakfast and dinner for the half-board option (highly recommended). The food is served in a beautiful veranda overlooking the Poseidon temple and the golf. I also thoroughly enjoyed working out at the the gym which has outdoors weights rack and matts with a view over the Poseidon temple and the sea. I will definitely come back to stay and dine here.
