An amazing experience. I feel disappointed in myself for only learning about this talented and empathetic artist now. His work captures the pain of the human condition. Being inside his home felt like a truly intimate experience. The guides are all great. The clothing shop in the house is owned by his granddaughter. Her pieces are stunning. Highly recommend!

One of the best gallery museums in the world; and we have seen many. It is definitely under-priced for the standard it displays. The $10 fee includes an English speaking guide through the unique, amazingly designed gallery, as well the huge house and studio which have been set up and maintained as a museum. We would readily expect to pay $40 for this in Europe or the USA. Remarkable large paintings in the gallery, (with an incredibly interesting history of the artist), which were well explained by the guide. This was followed by a really interesting and informative tour of the artist’s studio and house. Well worth the visit. Take a taxi there, and when you see the large ‘Entrada’ word on the white wall on the street corner, turn left, not right. Very poor signage unfortunately. The staff at the gate will get you a taxi when you need to leave; they are just next door!

Great collection of paintings, very beautifully displayed. You can also tour the artist’s home, he had a vast collection of significant artistic and historical pieces. The whole atmosphere is very tranquil, contemplative. The hike up the mountain is strenuous. The views from the top are spectacular.

Beautiful architecture and landscape ensemble of a large house and a cathedral sized “chapel”with terraces overlooking northern Quito. The Chapel of Man is a private collection of paintings by the acclaimed Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamín and an homage to the victims of suffering inflicted by man throughout modern history since the colonization of the Americas and the introduction of slavery but in the 20th century in Europe and Asia. The adjacent estate (casa) where Guayasamín lived and worked presents an excellent collection of prehispanic and colonial Hispanic art as well as works by the artist and contemporaries including Chagall and Picasso.

Great experience to visit the home and museum of Ecuadors most renown artist. Tours are giving in Spanish and English. Plan to invest 2-3 hours. Easy road access and parking. Small coffee shop on premises. Students bring your student IDs for half off the entrance fee of $10.

If I could give this and Casa Guayasamín six or seven stars, I’d do it. PLEASE don’t visit either without a guided tour in a language you understand— it’s included with admission, but I saw some people roaming around instead of waiting a few mins for the next guide. I’ve never, ever had my mind blown by art like this, and it’s necessary to connect the artist himself (which you learn about in Casa) and the reasons for each series and painting. When you know these things together, Guayasamín’s work will inspire and destroy you unprecedentedly. I liken his Anger series, which depicts well-known human tragedies at the hands of other humans, to standing at the a-bomb memorial in Hiroshima. But these are perhaps even more powerful because it’s easy for most of us to know details about at least some of these tragedies personally. Every world leader should be required to visit these exhibits and learn about this art and what it intends to communicate to us before taking power.

One of the best attractions in Quito. Well worth the visit. So much to see. They offered guided tours in English.
