Chapel of the Rosary, St. Dominic’s Temple

- Capilla del Rosario Amazing to visit this chapel as every inch is covered in gold-leaf stucco, angels, vines, symbols, and movement. No empty space. Baroque at its most dramatic — designed to awe you into silence. If Puebla Cathedral feels grand and orderly, Capilla del Rosario feels ecstatic — like stepping inside a golden prayer. Be sure to get there before 5:30pm as they close early even it posted close at 6pm.

Absolutely stunning and a beautiful work of art. The details inside on the paintings as well as masonry work is just beyond belief. This has to be one of the most beautiful chapels I’ve ever had the opportunity to visit!

There are churches, and then there are sanctuaries that glimmer — this is one of them. Hay iglesias, y luego hay santuarios que resplandecen — este es uno de esos. I always carry my faith with me wherever I travel, and La Capilla del Rosario in Puebla felt like coming home to reverence. This golden chapel is hidden within the Templo de Santo Domingo, yet once you step inside, the light, the gold, the art — it commands your full attention and your deepest prayer. Built between 1650 and 1690, it was the first chapel in Mexico dedicated exclusively to Our Lady of the Rosary.  Because of its stunning gilded interior, the chapel has long been spoken of as the “Casa Dorada” — often called Puebla’s Eighth Wonder of the World.  Every wall, every arch, every dome is adorned with gold leaf reliefs, cherubs, angels, vegetal motifs, aquatic imagery (fish, shells, waves) — a design that seems to whisper of sea and spirit.  Below the paintings depicting the life of Mary, you’ll see Talavera tilework — each tile a bead in a giant rosary, framed by angels’ heads.  At the heart of the chapel stands a statue of the Virgin of the Rosary, sheltered under a golden baldachin (ciprés), with Saint Dominic and Archangel Gabriel above — a vertical direction of prayer, faith, and intercession.  Tradition holds that the Virgin of the Rosary also holds a special place in the hearts of mariners — the protector of those at sea. She is prayed to for guidance and safe passage over water — a fitting devotion in this chapel that evokes ocean motifs and divine presence. If you visit Puebla, don’t rush past this gem. Find a quiet moment inside, let the gold light wash over you, and whisper your prayers. It’s not only a monument of art; it’s a place where faith, history, and divine mystery meet. Inside is very Baroque. The " Gold Room" was closed for renovations but was visible. Tour guide was cool and included everyone not just his group

It's a beautiful Church But the side Chapel Is absolutely amazing In line for possibly the eights wonder of the world.lots of tourists and guided tours. It is closed an hour and a half for lunch.Right after the 12:00 mass.

I couldn’t believe my eyes! I’ve never seen so much gold put together into a church. Everything is just very delicate and intricate mouldings covered in gold plus so many figures of saints all competing for your attention. Please note that every day has slightly different opening and closing times, but generally speaking it will close at lunchtime and reopen by 3:30 in the afternoon

All that gold, even if most of it is just gold leaf—is a sight to behold. And the altar of the main church is also lovely.
