If only there's lower star for me to tick.
Imagine after a long tiring journey through badly maintained winding road which have caused many to puke, you will at the least expect some fresh room smell, sparkling clean bedsheet and pillow altogether after a warm calming shower. That is an absolute opposite from what I went through.
I have read that someone left a comment about no water at night, which I thought might only be an isolated occassion. However, the moment I stepped into the reception, I saw a notice saying there's water problem in the whole Cameron Highland area. Fine, that's beyond the hotel's control. According to the front desk staff, there's a leaking somewhere from the main pipe. Fair enough, beyond control.
To my FIRST surprise, as I went around the town (afyer checking in) for dinner, i found that ALL restaurants, other hotels (budget one too) have NO water problem. I don't blame the management, but I do blame the inefficiency of the hotel management for poor contingency plan of facing such issue.
On the plus side, the hotel did manage to inform us prior to checking in. However, as it was weekend, close to midnight, what's the odd for me to find another vacant place for my family? I think very close to 0%. So I have to agree desperately and forcefully by the situation, to accept the terms. RM209 (RM30 deposit) was paid.
To my SECOND surprise, towel was not provided. The front desk staff said there's something wrong with the laundry transport in which I give zero concern because that's literally not my problem. What I understand again, that the management is in absolute inefficiency state in managing such 'emergency' situation.
However kudos to the front desk staff, who proactively went to buy a whole set of new towel for the guest tonight. Not the best quality (for what I have paid and from the original price published), but anything is better than nothing at this point.
Elevator was working fine, otherwise it would be another negative star if I have to walk up the stair with all the luggage.
Entering my room, it was musty mouldy smell, which i think due to poor ventilation. Fortunately I have a room with verandah and balcony, so the smell only gone after few hours. No fan / a/c provided, in which I understand and this was informed clearly before checking in.
Needless to say the pilow sheet has a stained spot on it. Alao despite of no water, toilet floor was damp and moist. TV? No working channel...well I can live with no TV at all so no big deal. It was so much different from advertisement pictures.
All in all, I think this is not just about rating. I'd rather consider this as a recommendation to the hotel management, as well as local authority in regulating tourism in Cameron Highland.
As this hotel is managed by same management of another (rather more premium choice) hotel - Planters Country Hotel, with I've heard of its name more than 10 years, such excuse of no water due to whatever reason, or no towel due to transport problem, is not acceptable. They should have had water reserve or inventory stock. It's just a simple contingency plan. We are not talking about fire disaster accident or a doomsday here.
As of local authority, I think they should monitor regularly all hotel operators so they don't take advantage on desperate visitors and tourist. Cameron Highland is not a new place, it's a well know tourist spot for so long that now you can even observe extremely heavy traffic influx every weekend. I even suggest for Tanah Rata area within certain radius, to be gazetted as no vehicles area (except for local residence and essential transport - products delivery and all). But in order to do so, they should provide with free or subsidized public transport system to move tourist around from tge car parking area to the hotels and attractions.
I wish this could reach the hotel management and local authority.
