Hotel Capitán Suizo, Tamarindo, Costa Rica - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Zoom out—what's the big picture? Sat right on the beach and overlooking the Pacific, this eco-conscious hotel occupies prime real estate at the tip of Tamarindo Bay (read: you can hear the surf crashing at night), but is still an easy walk into town if you feel so inclined. Look out for the resident Howler monkeys and sunbathing iguanas as you walk in. Nice. What’s the crowd like? You won't be finding Tamarindo's backpacker set here. Expect to see plenty of holidaymakers and honeymooners hanging out by the pool or drifting in and out of the on-site spa. What's the low-down on the rooms? The standard 'Superior' rooms all come with either a balcony or a terrace shrouded by drooping palm trees, and are decked out with terracotta-colored tiled floors, furniture done up in neutral tones, and luxe four-poster beds. The large, breezy beachfront bungalows, meanwhile, have unobstructed views of the Pacific, whirlpool tubs, outside showers and hammocks that serve as prime spots for napping. And what about connectivity? There's free WiFi available in the main hotel area, but don't expect a flatscreen TV in your room. This is a place to disconnect. What's the dining scene like? El Barco, the on-site restaurant, is right on the beach—a picture perfect setting come cocktail hour, when two for one drinks are offered. The menu is dubbed "seasonal fusion," but you can find everything from ceviche to mezze to burgers for lunch, and seafood-focused dishes like mahi-mahi carpaccio, tuna tartar, and grilled sea bass once dinner swings around. Any other features worth noting? The pool is secluded and shady thanks to the towering palms that line the edges, and the open-air spa resides right in the middle of the hotel's lush gardens. There's a ton of massages and treatments to choose from, too, like a Sunray Wrap to soothe your skin after a day on the beach or a hydrating Mud Lime Facial. What's the bottom line? The oceanfront setting is hard to beat—especially considering how secluded it feels compared to a lot of resorts along the bay. Bonus: an on-site surf instructor means you can live out all those Costa Rica surf dreams for real." - Lale Arikoglu

Gorgeous hotel tucked among lush greenery - grounds are beautiful and meticulously kept. Staff were warm and welcoming, rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The beach is wide and easily walkable - many restaurants and fun bars within walking distance , although the hotel restaurant is excellent and we enjoyed our dinner there as well. They have very comfortable chaise lounges set up facing the beach, as well as dining tables outside which make for a magical dining experience under the stars. Highly recommend this hotel, and we look forward to returning soon.

November 2023 A beautiful hotel tucked away on a peaceful stretch of Tamarindo Beach. The atmosphere here is calm and relaxing, with lush gardens and pathways that make you feel far from the bustle. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-kept. One of the highlights is the abundance of wildlife right around the resort—monkeys lounging in the trees, playful squirrels, curious iguanas, colorful birds, and even the occasional raccoon or snake. It feels like staying in the middle of a tropical nature reserve, with the bonus of a lovely pool and direct beach access. This is the kind of place where you can truly unwind, listen to the sounds of nature, and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica right at your doorstep.

Hotel Capitán Suizo stood out for its exceptional service, and friendly and helpful staff. We booked two tours through the hotel, both were led by guides who were informative, experienced and concerned with our comfort and welfare. The pool was large and well maintained. The hotel is quiet and peaceful—-on the beach and walking distance from. We saw a both birds and iguanas from the patio of the open air restaurant. The menu was interesting and had delicious vegetarian options. Their breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, especially all the tropical fruit.

This place has the perfect location at the end of the beach, the landscaping is nothing short of spectacular and the rooms are cozy and large with great balconies. However, what makes it stand out is its ability to give world class Hospitality. Hospitality is "HOW YOU MAKE SOMEONE FEEL" and this Hotel succeeded at making myself, two kids and my mother feel like rock stars. The staff were all so special and you could feel they genuinely love to work there and to to serve each and every guest coming through. This place is special and I would recommend it to anyone that is traveling to Tamarindo.

Our stay at Capitán Suizo Hotel was simply unforgettable. The property is simple but beautiful, and it’s the people & the respect for the environment that make it so special. Special thanks to Nubio, Manuel, Tom, Brittney, Keylor & Argenis for making our stay one we will not soon forget. ||We also fell in love with the hotel’s house cats, especially Simba, the sweetest boy who made himself right at home with us. Learning about the hotel’s partnership and support of the spay/neuter program for local dogs and cats made us appreciate this place even more—they truly care about the community, the environment and the animals of Costa Rica. ||Beautiful grounds, incredible service, excellent food and a big heart for animals—what more could you ask for? Oh and we were able to see many animals every day in their one habitat…monkeys, iguanas, parrots, magpie-jays & many more. We can’t wait to return.

We came here for our honeymoon in September and absolutely loved it. We picked it for the surfing; we are intermediate surfers who were a bit rusty, looking for a beginner-friendly long boarding wave, but a little potential for bigger waves at high tide. Waves/ board rentals/ locals were great vibes for surfing. The resort itself is so lush and built around their natural landscaping. Our bungalow was soo comfortable and charming. The food was all excellent, and the spa services were incredible and inexpensive. But the staff really take the prize here; everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and engaging. They encouraged us to speak the little Spanish we knew, which was fun, and it felt like we were all friends by the end. Really a magical place that feels effortlessly luxurious. We are already planning our return!

It's a lovely hotel, nicely designed with large rooms. With incredible jungle flora and fauna all around, and located at the quieter south end of Tamarindo Beach, in my opinion it is the best hotel in Tamarindo. And is has a lovely pool just steps from the beach. The pnia coladas are very, very good. Highly recommend it.
