Hotel Capitán Suizo, Tamarindo, Costa Rica - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Zoom out—what's the big picture? Sat right on the beach and overlooking the Pacific, this eco-conscious hotel occupies prime real estate at the tip of Tamarindo Bay (read: you can hear the surf crashing at night), but is still an easy walk into town if you feel so inclined. Look out for the resident Howler monkeys and sunbathing iguanas as you walk in. Nice. What’s the crowd like? You won't be finding Tamarindo's backpacker set here. Expect to see plenty of holidaymakers and honeymooners hanging out by the pool or drifting in and out of the on-site spa. What's the low-down on the rooms? The standard 'Superior' rooms all come with either a balcony or a terrace shrouded by drooping palm trees, and are decked out with terracotta-colored tiled floors, furniture done up in neutral tones, and luxe four-poster beds. The large, breezy beachfront bungalows, meanwhile, have unobstructed views of the Pacific, whirlpool tubs, outside showers and hammocks that serve as prime spots for napping. And what about connectivity? There's free WiFi available in the main hotel area, but don't expect a flatscreen TV in your room. This is a place to disconnect. What's the dining scene like? El Barco, the on-site restaurant, is right on the beach—a picture perfect setting come cocktail hour, when two for one drinks are offered. The menu is dubbed "seasonal fusion," but you can find everything from ceviche to mezze to burgers for lunch, and seafood-focused dishes like mahi-mahi carpaccio, tuna tartar, and grilled sea bass once dinner swings around. Any other features worth noting? The pool is secluded and shady thanks to the towering palms that line the edges, and the open-air spa resides right in the middle of the hotel's lush gardens. There's a ton of massages and treatments to choose from, too, like a Sunray Wrap to soothe your skin after a day on the beach or a hydrating Mud Lime Facial. What's the bottom line? The oceanfront setting is hard to beat—especially considering how secluded it feels compared to a lot of resorts along the bay. Bonus: an on-site surf instructor means you can live out all those Costa Rica surf dreams for real." - Lale Arikoglu

Hotel Capitán Suizo stood out for its exceptional service, and friendly and helpful staff. We booked two tours through the hotel, both were led by guides who were informative, experienced and concerned with our comfort and welfare. The pool was large and well maintained. The hotel is quiet and peaceful—-on the beach and walking distance from. We saw a both birds and iguanas from the patio of the open air restaurant. The menu was interesting and had delicious vegetarian options. Their breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, especially all the tropical fruit.

It's a lovely hotel, nicely designed with large rooms. With incredible jungle flora and fauna all around, and located at the quieter south end of Tamarindo Beach, in my opinion it is the best hotel in Tamarindo. And is has a lovely pool just steps from the beach. The pnia coladas are very, very good. Highly recommend it.

We just had the most lovely stay here. Everything was perfection from start to finish. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. They were so kind to indulge me practicing Spanish along the way. They seamlessly handled our dinner reservations, transportation to and from the airport, and booking our spa services. The property and rooms are just beautiful too. We slept so well. The pool and beach access was phenomenal. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy ourselves. I only wish we had a longer trip. I loved the location of the hotel just being a little bit outside of Tamarindo. It made for a peaceful place to stay, but with an easy walk to restaurants. Can't recommend a stay here enough.

We stayed at Capitan Suizo Beachfront Boutique hotel during our Costa Rica vacation. It is a beautiful resort. The location was convenient to Tamarindo and just steps away from the beach and pool. What really made the resort special is the rooms were nestled in the landscape with a true tropical vibe with plenty of privacy. The resort is perfect place to see the amazing sunsets.||The staff was outstanding and made our experience memorable, with Kaylor standing out for his exceptional service and warm hospitality. He addressed us by our names each time we interacted with him. ||I wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful resort to anyone looking for a tranquil getaway. We can't wait to share our experience with friends and encourage them to visit this hidden gem!!

Capitan Suizo exceeded our expectations! The hospitality was over-the-top! Staff was pleasant, friendly, accommodating. They go above and beyond to make your stay perfect and relaxing! The breakfast was amazing. The chef prepared fish caught on our excursion; a gourmet presentation and tasty! He knocked it out the park! While small and quaint, there were many activities for our children ages 9-18yrs to enjoy! It was a fabulous stay! Thank you Capitan Suizo and staff!

Me and my wife went here with her family a little while ago just forgot to review it. What an incredible place we didn’t want to leave that’s for sure! The pool is amazing, drink service brings them right up to you at the pool as well which made for a great time. It’s a little farther away from downtown too so it made it a little more romantic and quieter so we enjoyed that as well but still not too far where it would be hard to enjoy downtown(which we did many days and nights). The restaurant and spa treatments you can get as well are incredible. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a beachfront resort that is quiet and takes care of their guests with beautiful views!

This is my third time going to Costa Rica and I think I found the best Hotel in the entire country. The moment you step foot on this property all your stresses disappear. Everyone that works here will treat you like family. We spent 7 days with some of the most amazing humans on earth. The first waiter we met was Argenis. He was simply the best! He knew everyone’s name and greeted everyone daily. He picked up that my 13year old loved soccer so he set up a match between himself and my son on his day off. During the match all the wait staff engaged in the fun. Keylor the bar tender who was a professional soccer player gave my son tips on how to be the best. Max and Jairo the waiter helped when it came to ball handling skills. Angel , Nubia, and Marisela made sure that the boys were having a good time. Serving us non stop beverages and fun. This was my son‘s favorite part of the whole trip bonding with the locals.
