One of the most authentic places in Plymouth. Very friendly service, great atmosphere and amazing food for pretty low prices compared to anything else in the harbor - a big recommendation!

Have not been for a very long time. The food did not disappoint . it was not busy popped in on our bikes . It is certainly worth paying a visit. All food cooked to order.

I ordered the cheddar porker and it was delicious and good sights to venture off to after you’re finished. Bring clean hands. They do not have utensils here.

Disappointed,if the roll is half a yard the sausage certainly isn't, you end up with lots of roll with no sausage

This is Plymouth and the Barbican to me. Been coming here every possible trip to the area for 35 years now. I remember when there was a branch inside the student union at the uni! The vibe is great, the location by the water is stunning and the food is great. Watch your food being cooked and salivate as you see what you think is your order going to someone a few ahead of you in the always orderly waiting throng of customers. My favourite is a cheese and chilli burger. Others love the half a yard of sausage. A must do when in Plymouth!

Google
Great location but I feel a slightly missed opportunity. You know when something is “legendary” just because? Well this is one of those places. It’s reasonably cheap & cheerful food but the actual beef patty’s themselves would benefit from being better quality. They’re like the ones you get of questionable ingredients from a lay-by burger-van. Now I know this place is well loved by locals but with the burger market exploding in recent years I really do think they could do better. The service was good enough, slightly long wait but acceptable even though not many customers waiting, I could see the cook was busy so fair enough.

This place has existed for many many years and is a landmark of Plymouth with lots of bikers congregating here. The food is simple and delicious. We had the rolls for breakfast and they were quite tasty. I would recommend the mackerel roll with onions...yum yum yum. Has a nice seating area overlooking the water.

Yelp
I was not aware that this restaurant was here until a friend took me here to stop and get a bite to eat. I ordered the 'Jasperizer' It was very nice and the service was quite fast. The only negative I have is the burger bun was not buttered so it was quite a dry hard burger.

Yelp
Definitely, a very cheap place to eat in. Great location overlooking the harbor and 10 min walk from the hoe. Mainly specialize in burgers and hot dogs. Couldn't eat it every day. Had the jasperize - very big, loads going on. Would recommend.

Yelp
Who could resist the foot long? Cap'n Jaspers is an institution in Plymouth and can easily be missed. It's sad that it has changed hands recently as the food is not as good as it used to be. Still it will remain a snack favourite and a favourite of those off out on the town.

Yelp
It may not be the little shack it was when I first came across it in 1988, serving fishermen and late night/early morning revellers but it still an iconic part of Plymouth Barbican and unmissable. First things first - be prepared to defend your meal from voracious seagulls! Be assertive and they'll back off. There always seem to be a good number of genial bikers strutting round in their leathers or jeans adding colour and character - mix in tourists, students, locals, pub goers, the occasional stray sailor and you have a great place to eat summer or winter. Yes it is outside but that is all of the charm, the tea is blisteringly hot, the coffee milky 1960's standard, the food is great - not high cuisine or fake in any way just good standard grub with a great twist, a foot long baguette filled with deliciousness, unmissable!! If you are a veggie you do have some options but it is more meat orientated. If you are in Plymouth for any reason visit Capn Jaspers, it is as Plymouth as Plymouth Argyle and a lot less stressful to go to.

Yelp
It was back in 2005 or 6, when I had a cheeseburger. Taste was really good and kind of roastish. yum yum, just checked the menu. I should go there again!!

Yelp
I Work in Plymouth, I have a lot of friends who ride bikes, this place is a meeting place for Local Fisherman, Bikers, Tourists, I have been going for years and never tire of it, The food is honest, and you get decent portions, The Half Yard of Hotdog is briliant, none of those frankfurter things, oh no, two proper jumbo sausages, The Jasperizer is one of my favourites I have an Egg in it as well to make it really messy. The Cups of Tea and Coffee with Hot Milk in Pyrex cups with a 20p deposit are lovely on a cold day, I have recently discovered the Honalulu Burger with pineapple in it.. The Shack itself is in a quality location and the Fresco with mouldings on the side is a proper Photo opportunity for tourists.. All I can say if you are in Plymouth as a tourist.. Get down the Barbican, go to the end past all the fancy umbrella seated places, Go to Capn Jaspers, Buy some food, a Car Sticker, a Tshirt have some good conversation and enjoy yourself.. and what's more the biggest burger, the Jasperizer comes with Change from a fiver you can't say that in Burger King!!

Yelp
A Plymouth staple by the Marina (nice location, for sure!). Had a half yard hot dog, which is a great way to fill up. I've had better sausage recently though (oo-er). This was just OK. But for fast food this is a pretty good option. I've always been nervous about ordering burgers from places like this, but I might try one next time.

Yelp
This is a brilliant place, great food, relatively cheap prices - the kirkie-ness of the place will keep you amused while waiting for your food while you over look the lovely barbican full of ships and yachts. Great place if visiting Plymouth.

Qype User (sfcoop…)

Yelp
As a student in Plymouth for pretty 5 years, I cannot tell you how many times i visited this place after a beery session around the Barbican. Vast range of burgers and hot dogs to be had including the infamous foot long. Not something to tackle lightly. Great location too overlooking the harbour and only 2 mins walk from the Mayflower steps.

Qype User (happyt…)

Yelp
Great location and if you are a lover of greasy food you gotta try the breakfast roll. But watch out for those pesky seagulls they got stealing food down to a fine art.

Caroline J.

Yelp
Great place! If you love cheap fast food this is the place and the view is an added bonus! I go here every time I'm on the hoe! They have just upgraded it because there are so many people going and coming back!

Qype User (Janner…)

Yelp
Not cheap. Has evolved and changed a lot since it was established two or three decades ago by John Dudley. Probably no longer worthy of its iconic status. It isn't that interesting or that different anymore. Its only open till midnight. its no longer open very early in the morning because the fishing trawlers are now based on the other side of the harbour. It is often heaving with bikers in their leathers and an uncomfortable number of patrolling and off duty policeman. Everything is cooked fresh and there can be a wait. But its a good friendly burger bar.

Qype User (plymbo…)

Yelp
Mostly bikers. Pricey and there can be a roaring gale with limited protection. But on fine days it is a lovely spot overlooking the dock.
