My Irish-born husband and I were traveling with another couple, showing them the Ireland we love. We were especially keen for them to visit The Burren, and we booked two rooms at Cappabhaile House near Ballyvaughan. It is every bit as lovely as the pictures: a spacious, well-appointed home with traditional decor, a game room, a comfortable seating area, and a large breakfast room. ||Conor and his wife Margaret are just delightful. Conor shared information and lent us a guidebook about The Burren, and at night we were pleasantly surprised with a concert of him and a friend regaling us with traditional Irish tunes. Conor's voice is poignant, brought tears to my eyes. And he takes requests!||Our room was large and comfortable, with plenty of storage, a nice sitting area with tea service and biscuits, and bucolic views from the window. We had a quiet night's sleep. ||The breakfast is just exquisite. You have quite a few choices, and you're asked to submit your request the night before. A special request was easily accommodated. The breakfasts are beautifully made, my smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were generous and out of this world. My Irish husband pronounced the overnight oatmeal to be the best he's EVER had, and that's saying something! I don't know how Margaret does it, managing so many people with good humor.||Connor warned us not to try to walk to nearby Ballyvaughan for dinner: "You'll be killed" he said simply. He also advised us to make reservations for the main restaurant there, Monk's, and their seafood is really worth it!||After three weeks of travel in Ireland, Scotland and Amsterdam, we have stayed in numerous accommodations, and I can honestly say this was the best! And amazingly, reasonably priced! I we ever return, we will definitely stay here again.
