My girlfriend and I stayed here in March 2014. Capsule Ryokan is located extremely well for tourism and transit (ask the person at the desk for their map of where to catch buses for major tourist destinations which are all very close by and I recommend getting the 1 day bus pass for 5Y) You can walk easily from the train station of you have backpacks (like us) or even if you had those rolling suitcases. 10 minute walk at most.
We had one of the rooms for two on the 3rd floor. It was quiet and clean. This place is very modern and has all the amenities. Another family member was with us for part of the trip and she booked one of the capsules on the 1st floor and also had a great stay. My only perhaps silly complaint was that they keep the bathroom fan on 24-7 (says to on the switch) and since the rooms are comfortably small, I could hear it going all night, but because its so small I guess they'd rather the ventilation than mould.
Their inclusion of a very detailed information booklet in the room was great. the places they recommend to eat around the block are totally fine, cheap, and delicious.
there is a 7-11 located very near by as well with an international bank machine in it (for Canadian and US travellers on the PLUS network, which most banks are in NA).
I would stay here again, in fact its the only place we stayed on our trip that I would intentionally book again for its ease.

i really liked the hotel. the location is great as the main station is in walking distance. lots of options for dinner and coming back from a day trip on a late train is no problem. this could be your hub for exploring the kyoto area. the room is small and you have to make the bed yourself. but we only used it to sleep anyway. hotel has 200yen washer and 300yen dryer, which we used to do the laundry during a long breakfast. did not have much interaction with staff, but they provide a guide book in your room to explain the surroundings and also suggest some itineraries. i would come back.

Not too far from Kyoto station, easy to find with the map from there website. I had the traditional style room. Very interesting how small a room, containing a toilet, a shower, a sink, enough storage for 2 big backpacks can be. First room had an issue, owner did not hesitate to offer another room right away. Cleanliness for the price so-so. But I couldn't find anything cheaper at that time!
They offer a very nice Map and explain to you all you need to know for your stay in Kyoto. Thanks!

Stayed for three nights in a standard room for two adults. Honestly the room does feel like a capsule. It doesn't have much room to move around and is super minimalist with only hairdryer, towels, cups, and crappy shampoo and body wash (leaves my hair very dry). One of the advantages of staying here is the self service which feels like living in an apartment building. The hotel staff also compiled little notes summarizing nearby eateries and options for families traveling with kids. Upon checkout, we were given two pairs of Japan-made chopsticks as gifts from the hotel. Overall, the staff is nice but more needs to be done on the complimentary stuff in the room to make guests more comfortable staying here.

It may seem far away from the busiest places of Kyoto, but it's quite convenient. Close the train station, kombinis, bus stop leading you to the main sigh see attraction and close to busy restaurant street as well as a couple of nice temples. Stayed in capsule room for 5 night and was scared it would be a mistake at first but they are spacious and comfy. Only issue can be who's sharing the other capsules as some guest can be noisy. The big big plus though is the staff. Outstandingly nice :) For the price it's really a excellent place!

We stayed here for about half a week and really enjoyed it. It is not a traditional ryokan in any sense, it is really just a hostel with a combination of capsules and private rooms with tatami-style beds. We stayed in the private rooms. The staff are generally young and very helpful. The location is pretty good, about a 10 minute walk from the train station. I think they even offer free laundry (or maybe it's just free washing detergent) and a free kimono dressup during the afternoon.

It is a quick walk from Kyoto station. The private room is perfect for a stay. It has everything you need or go check out extra amenities in the lobby. They put plenty of hooks by the door and plenty of outlets for electronics. There is a nice kitchenette, internet, umbrellas, even free kimono tries.
There is a market nearby, eateries, two temples and a garden, convenience stores.
There are also two washers and a dryer, or take your laundry across the street (open from 7-10 p.m.).
There is a free luggage drop.
It is perfect for your budget stay and has all the needs of a traveler plus a friendly staff.

Love this little place. Stayed here in October 2013 for a few days when I visited Kyoto. The staff were friendly and spoke food English. The room was well appointed with a high quality shower built in.
