Comfortable and quit with a great view. I was in town for a wedding and was very happy with my stay. Room 440 had a great view and extra privacy. I checked in late and they were very accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. Location was perfect as I could walk to everything in town. Appreciated their list of ship passings on the river as I really look forward to seeing them when I’m in A-Bay.

Great location! Right next door to Uncle Sam's boat tours. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance of this location. Rooms are very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the town. Would highly recommend!

A wonderful overnight here. Room was spacious and clean. Balcony overlooking the river was a huge plus. Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of on-site parking and an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Didn't use the pool but was told that it's not heated.

Our stay beat all of our possible expectations. I cannot express that enough. First, we have a large breed dog (Bernese Mountain Dog) who weighs 100lbs. There are not many hotels that are pet friendly, and even fewer that allow such large dogs. He is afraid of his own shadow, but is also a gentle giant and generally well-behaved. Being able to have Murphy with us made our entire trip that much less stressful and that much more enjoyable. The rooms were absolutely perfectly prepared for a pet-friendly stay and it was great to know that all rooms are pet friendly. (More on rooms to come.) The staff was extremely welcoming of Murphy, but also clear on the pet rules and policies. (More on staff to follow.) The rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. But the best part is the view from the rooms. The beds are comfortable. The terraces are a great place to have a morning coffee of a late night drink. In either case, you get to enjoy a breathtaking view. In essence, everything you'd expect from a great hotel. Finally, the staff was awesome. They were always friendly and welcoming. The check-in and check-out process was quick and smooth. There was always fresh coffee in the main office in the mornings and a nice chat with someone working the front desk. There is a pool. We didn't have the time to use it, but others seemed to be enjoying it.

My husband reserved a suite for 3 days and when we got to the ground floor entrance the concrete slab was sunken and crooked making it difficult to bring things in and out. The room, bathroom and beds were clean and smelled good. The layout of the room wasn't comfortable, it needs to be renovated. No place to put your feet up, unless laying in the bed. TV was on a side wall making it difficult to see and only place to watch it was at an angle on the bed. A high window by the bed had curtains too short width wise, so sun got in the eyes early in the morning....very annoying. Bathroom shower very small and outdated shower fixture wiggled in the wall when turning it on or off. Thought it would break. Very disappointed and won't go back. I don't like to complain but this was not a pleasant experience. Thought a suite would be relaxing, this was not. However, a good location to all the places we wanted to go. Two minute drive to Alex Bay.

Our 6th time staying here….and we love it more with each visit! Being able to relax on the room deck with the incredible St. Lawrence River right in front of you, watching the huge freighters pass by….heaven on earth! :) Looking forward to our next trip up next year!

Cute, quaint motel. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Each has a nice balcony. Pool area has a gas fire pit with lots of seating. It does close promptly at 9pm ! Close to shopping and dinning.

Was pleasantly surprised with the deck improvements this year! With the great weather we had for our visit we enjoyed it everyday especially for the 4th fireworks. Our room was clean & the office staff was always helpful & friendly. A special thank you to Lisa who went out of her way to accommodate us. Already looking forward to next year!

Yelp
This is probably the best place to stay downtown. We have stayed at them all. The river view is the best room and the balcony is more private than any others. The prices are very reasonable and the rooms are clean. The views are amazing and the customer service is outstanding.

Yelp
Gabrielle was extremely helpful, patient, and efficient when helping me choose a room. All the rooms have water views and some have castle views. Lobby was welcoming. Beds were comfy and warm.

Yelp
The office went out of the way to accommodate us on very short notice. We were originally booked at Bonnie castle but one night there and we were gone! Rooms very clean and nicely decorated. We enjoyed watching the boats dock from our balcony. With proper planning you can get rooms overlooking the river with great views of Bolt castle. Great location in town as you can walk easily anywhere

Yelp
I researched the area very well prior to booking our weekend getaway at Capt Thomson's, and we were not disappointed. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and our main channel room balcony looked directly over to Boldts Castle. The staff was very accommodating. The decor was nice too--nautical themed. Only downfall was our noisy upstairs neighbors; however, this is not the fault of the hotel and I am sure if we would have brought it to the front desks attention they would've helped, but we just dealt with it. We will be sure to stay here again on our next visit to Alex Bay! Thank you for helping us have a wonderful anniversary getaway!

Yelp
Capt Thomson's is only a "resort" if you look at it that way. In reality, it's a motel. I knew this when I booked it, but their name should really probably end with, say, "Motel" or "Lodge by the River." Their best feature? Those wonderful private balconies that back right up to the channel/harbor. If you choose the "Main Channel" rooms, you could NOT ask for a better vaca-view. You get the Boldt Castle. You get the ships that go by. You get the birds and the nature and the islands and the most lovely sunsets. Man. It's just so relaxing and peaceful. Minus the mosquitoes. Those little tool-bags can go fall down a massive abyss together. Yuck. Don't forget the insect repellent! As for the actual rooms: they are motel rooms. Don't expect anything more and you won't be disappointed. They're perfectly fine. Aside from the mosquito massacre we performed on the ceiling (may you all rest in mosquito-heaven peace), they were clean. I usually pocket the little shampoos and conditioners from hotels, but I didn't this time because they weren't that great. The beds were fine, but didn't seem to have been updated any time recently. Capt Thomson's most definitely has the prime real estate in Alexandria Bay. They're right next to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You should stay here if you want to take a boat tour. And you want to take a boat tour. So you probably want to stay here. That was our rationale, at least. Plus, Alex Bay has lots of gift shops nearby, too. Make sure to also check out the wine trail! To sum up: If you're headed to the 1,000 Islands, want to take a boat tour of the 1,000 Islands, and want a decent, clean place to stay for a good price: this is a good option -- at least from what I experienced during my June '14 visit.

Yelp
We stopped here based on Yelp rating. The front desk was very accommodating. The room was neat, clean and perfect. The view of Boldt Castle and the water from our balcony is amazing. Beautiful place we don't want to go home.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a place to stay in the Alexandria Bay that would give us the best Thousand Islands experience. Searching online, it was difficult to see the difference between the different resorts. We picked Capt Thomson's Resort based partially on reviews, but largely on their location on the St. Lawrence River. The hotel has three wings, each offering different views. We stayed in the Main Channel wing and I would highly recommend the same to anyone wishing to stay here. You wake up and go to bed with spectacular views of Boldt castle. I'm convinced that there are not any better views of the castle at other lodging options. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived a little early, but they still let us check in. The cleaners always greeted you with a smile while passing by. During our stay, I found myself needing to print/sign/fax documents for work, and the workers at the front desk were quick to help me finish my business and get on with a relaxing vacation. We found the facilities to be clean. It seems most of the options in Alex Bay are motel style "resorts" and this is no different. The private balcony with a beautiful view is what distinguishes this place. They are also located immediately adjacent to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You can even find deals that bundle boat tours together with your hotel stay. They offer free wi-fi. The pools were clean and the water felt warm (we didn't swim). At first glance it appears as they had a hot-tub, but it's just a kiddie pool. Overall, I was very pleased with our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Alex Bay. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
We were here 2 nights with a tour group. We had been promised a view of the river and the Boldt Castle, and when we arrived the rooms we were given did NOT have a view of either of these but of the marina - with a big tour boat right outside our balcony. Also, our travel company said that there were views of the islands, river, and Boldt castle from the resort. This was only true if your room was in the Main Channel section, as far as we could tell. We were NOT able to be moved into this area! We agreed that this was our tour company's fault and probably not that of the "resort" hotel. Megan at the front desk was very helpful. Her manager Chuck was not, and had an attitude when we asked about being on a waiting list for a Main Channel 2 bed room in case one came open. There were NO VIEWS of the river, islands, or Boldt Castle from the "resort", No one at the hotel told us about a hidden gazebo in front of one of the hotel buildings that did have a view. The "resort" brochure states that there are views of river traffic, but we could not find a place to see these views, except near the gazebo that was very hard to find and on somewhat dangerous ground (no railings - you could fall right into the river). We found it the second day, AFTER we had missed the first night's sunset, which we really wanted to see. There were no maps of the area or businesses in the rooms or the office. Megan got a map out of her car and made us a copy, but the map was not complete and did not show the nice park on Casino Island that we discovered on our own the second day to watch the river and the sunset. We had to walk awhile in the dark to get back. The restaurant next door was closed and gated so we could not see anything from there. It would have been nice if it was open - we would have eaten there for sure! The room itself was OK.

Yelp
A group of us made a reservation for two night stay. The fridge was small so we filled our tub with some ice to keep drinks cool. We received a complaint from the room below that their ceiling was leaking from the condensation of our filled up tub. We were drinking a bit that first night and received a nose complaint, which the front desk made us aware of. To their request we respectively calmed down. At 730 the next morning we have management knock on our door and tell us that we're "gone in an hour, understand?" and just walks away while we're trying to have reasonable conversation with them. They were not approachable, wouldn't give us our money back for the second night and threatened to charge us for the damage done to the ceiling/tub that clearly wasn't up to code. Was able to find a spot in A-Bay for the second night with friendly management and accommodations were just as nice.

Yelp
Not so bad , needs updating of rooms. Nice people at front desk and with the room they let you park for free. The gem of the motel is the view from the lake side rooms beautiful and great view of heart island

Yelp
Staff was friendly and accomodating. The hotel is a little dated, but then again has some of the best views...so I was willing to put up with the fact that it looks like a motel from the 70's. We had a room on the main channel, which was perfect. We were able to sit out on our deck and watch the sunset over Boldt Castle, which was really nice. Also - watching the boats and ships go by was pretty neat too. It wasn't very expensive either, so that was a plus. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Yelp
Reasonably priced. Rooms are a bit outdated, but you pay for what you get. Location is the best. Good views of the river and right next to the Uncle Sam boat tour dock.

Yelp
Very disappointing.!, Booked 3 months prior specifically for the Main deck. Traveled to celebrate our ten year anniversary being married at the Boldt castle. To our extreme disappointment they put us in a room with a view of down river. The only way to see the castle was to go outside on the balcony leaning over it. Arriving early there were others that did not check in. The management would not move us or consider accommodating our initial booking specifically to view the castle from a main deck room. The only reason we stayed was due to every property in the near vicinity was booked Very very disappointing. I have nothing good to say about Capt Thompson resort

Yelp
Found this spot thru Yelp. THANK YOU Yelpers for the honest, detailed descriptions! Like other reviewers said, this really is THE perfect location! Older looking rooms, yes, but are you really traveling to the 1000 Islands to sit in your room? The rooms are clean when you arrive and cleaned and refreshed daily unless you request otherwise. We traveled the last weekend they were open so the pool had already been closed for the season. The place was still sold out! Our balcony overlooked the water (I believe every room does) and stared right at Heart Island. We saw beautiful homes, huge tankers come thru and gorgeous sunsets. We were there in October so our view was colorful trees and blue skies. It was cold out but we took a blanket from one of the beds and laid over us while sitting outside admiring Mother Nature's perfection. If I ever go back to 1000 Islands (not sure we will because there's not much to do there), I will stay here again...won't even look at another place.
