Amazing food and service. Was really impressed with the quality of the food. We settled on the banquet which was first class. The Gyoza was a stand out along with the Bao Buns. The Salmon Sushi and Pork Belly were also excellent. With the music pumping in the background it’s an energetic vibe. Cocktail menu is extensive. Special shout out to Mark and Jensen for first rate service! Highly recommended.

Captain Baxter never misses. I'm here almost every time their menu rotates, and it's always something exciting and delicious. The chef's creativity really shows, and every dish feels fresh, balanced, and full of flavour. The owner/manager should be incredibly proud of the team they've assembled. The service is warm, attentive, and consistent, which is rare these days. You can tell everyone here genuinely cares about the experience they create. 🌊

We had our wedding at Captain Baxter last week and we’re still on cloud nine. It was the perfect venue! Elise was really responsive and helpful during all stages of planning. I knew we were in good hands. On the day, the staff were so friendly and attentive. We got so many compliments on the food and cocktails. And we were so fortunate to get beautiful weather so we could enjoy the views and deck area. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

We had our wedding at Captain Baxters on the 23rd of October 2025. It was the most incredible day we could have hoped for. The staff at CB went above and beyond for us and our guests. The manager and event management team were so accommodating to our needs leading up to the day, it made the wedding planning process so much easier than I was anticipating. We are so glad we had our wedding here and we look forward to revisiting the memories of the day by coming back!

13th November 2025 Super Sunset Spot - Check ✅ A quiet evening midweek but what I liked most about the location was the service.

The Captain Baxter team is top class, from the meticulous organisation of the event to the service and atmosphere on the day. Our function was a morning wedding followed by canapes and drinks, then a buffet lunch with dessert to conclude. The food was delicious and plentiful. The weather was fine and sunny, enabling the guests to take full advantage of the outside area, enjoying the views of St Kilda Beach and Port Phillip Bay.

I had the best time at Captain Baxter’s bottomless brunch last Sunday! The atmosphere was amazing — great music, beautiful view, and such a fun vibe all around. The staff were super friendly and made sure our glasses were never empty. My friends and I had so much fun and can’t wait to come back again soon. Highly recommend for a perfect Sunday out!

We have a wedding reception on Monday. There was fantastic customer service, and floor staff there is very friendly and very attentive. Elise had very good communication with all stages of planning, ensuring we are happy with. The gentleman managing the function on the night was also fantastic. They catered for every request we asked with no hesitation and welcome nature. Can see beautiful sunset just from the seat. I went down stairs for beach photo is very cool. If planning an event you are in great hands.

I came here for a social event so was able to enjoy the entire upper floor and outside deck. You can't get a better location overlooking the sunset at St. Kilda Beach on a windy but warm, clear summer night. I was delighted by the food selection - Asian inspired nibbles like spicy chicken salad, tasty egg rolls and beef banh mi. Impressively flavourful for a large group catered event. Staff were friendly, beats were jamming and the vibe was great. Just as nice would have been to sit downstairs overlooking the boardwalk in a quieter setting with that special someone.

Cool atmosphere on the rooftop right on the water... Cool different setup, get your seat first inside or out, then go inside to place the order and they will bring it to you... Happy hour specials are good, and not expensive.. I had a turkey burger, fries and corona.

Food is over priced and very ordinary. menu is limited with marked up prices. Had the BBQ swordfish with goan curry $38.. was expecting something spectacular.. instead it was far from anything .. 3 pieces of semi dried swordfish with curry sauce and brown rice. it's more of a drinks venue than for food.

Very interesting little bar. Superb views over the bay and parklands. It would be bliss here on a warm day or night. The outdoor area would be particularly lovely. It was cool here this evening so we were confined inside. Very interesting crowd. Certainly numerous beautiful people around or those with aspirations. Had a couple of drinks. The bar and wait staff were excellent. My G and T was delectable. Overall, a very lovely bar that I'd happily revisit. It's a 3.5 from me.

This place suffers from a bit of an identity complex by trying to tap into all aspects of st kilda at once from laid back beachy vibes to trashy golddigger hip vibes. Sometimes it's a ghost town, completely empty (a bit too empty) but with friendly staff offering up nice cocktails and nibbles and what not. Not bad to sit in the sun with friends spontaneously. But other times it becomes somesort of weird elitist "club? bar?" with angry door people, a massive line, a convoluted dress code/demographic, and really uncared for food/drinks. Kinda like a strip bar without the strippers. Really painful on these days/nights. The one consistent thing I've found is that I always leave disappointed. There's just something extremely "Meh. I've experienced better." about the place. Given its iconic location etc this place should be so much more. But it somehow manages to embody all the tacky aspects of Melbourne simultaneously, and with a price. So these days, I only come here when I absolutely have to (a work function/friends event), never ever voluntarily. Just so much better things in the area to do and spend your money on.

It's pretty hard to argue with a place that has THOSE views over St Kilda beach. With an outdoor terrace, formal dining space with sexy leather booths and a more casual bar area, there's a lot going on here and surely a place that you will want to spend an hour or two. The Tommy Collins cocktail was refreshing, if perhaps a little sweet. Served over mountains of crushed ice, it tasted like a lemonade icy pole. Some people will love this, but I'll be looking to the other Cocktails next time - there's plenty to choose from, many with a slight twist using local Australian ingredients. Staff are still finding their feet and learning the menu (case in point: when choosing something from the "shared" menu, I would have expected to be told that the item I chose was actually only one piece and not something suitable for sharing.) Bring on Summer I say, because this may just be the new place to be in St Kilda once the weather warms up.

Had a few drinks here on a hot summer evening and was lucky enough to get a table outside for our group. Great view of the sunset but was very loud with the band playing at Republica down stairs. Lots of bar staff which meant getting a drink was a quick process. Don't wear thongs!

The day started with an amazing hangover, so the first order for lunch was a Mojito. As far as Mojito's go, I can say I have only had one better than this. Lunch was to be shared amongst 4 of us, and we ordered the Pulled Lamb Shawarma for entree. The meat was tender and well-seasoned, the plate was perfect for sharing and the balance of flavours was perfect. Mains consisted of the Following: Fried Chicken Drumsticks with Peanut Satay Perfectly crispy with a fragrant and tasty satay sauce, although when ordering we asked for 4 drumsticks, we only received 3, but aside from this the dish was delicious Steamed Fish in Banana Leaf w Yellow Curry Presented beautifully, although wrapped in banana leaf like a mignon, not wrapped as one would expect it to be, the curry was subtle and had slight notes of chilli, again a great balance of flavour Sticky Beef Ribs The Ribs were plentiful being served 3. The sauce was sticky as promised and the flavour was delicious, however the ribs themselves were quite fatty, and it took some surgery to get them to an edible stage, so of the 3 dishes, this was my least favourite. (Which saddens me as a canivore to say) Overall the food, drinks and service was spot on. Congratulations to the chef, who has paired a great understanding of his food and flavours with some beautiful presentation.

Receptionist was beyond rude. Booking made and now "lost" and she had the guts to be rude! Hate this restaurant!

Beautiful venue and amazing views . Service could have been lot better . Floor staff is very rude and treat customers specially with smaller group or a couple just a number . For ordering food I needed to go to the counter and even bring cutleries. Went for Saturday lunch restaurant wasn't even that busy. All the food came all at once , cauliflower croquettes were delicious, spring rolls were waste on money , three spring rolls for $14 what a ripp off. Our main was cauliflower steak with brown rice , totally tasteless , brown rice was dry . $28 for half a cauliflower was like making you fool left right and centre and on top poor snob service . Get your game right guys , I know you guys have amazing real estate but that does not mean you'll serve any food and charge ridiculous prices .

If I could give Captain Baxter 10 stars I would. I had a banquet for 8 ppl and 3 children and it was a very pleasant experience (one of the best we have ever had in a restaurant). Justin helped us with the booking (the guy is all smiles and helpful), Tom served us the food (he takes his time explaining what you are being served) and Leticia went out of her way to make sure the kids enjoyed their time there. I can't emphasise enough how professional and friendly the staff is. We didn't meet the chef but the food was amazing. Drinks were amazing too, great mixologist. You will love your time being served at this place. Strongly recommend them.
