Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center

This is the most unprofessional medical center I’ve ever experienced. I had two pleasant interactions in this midst of a medical emergency spanning over 4 days & that was with my primary physician and the women at the lab window. That’s it. Everything/Everyone else has been a mess, sloppy, giving unclear communication and lack of trust that I have for people who are supposed to be professionals and providing care. Majority of the receptionist barely look up from their phones to greet or check you in it’s literally a disgrace when patients are treated like that especially when it’s their first visit like mine !! All I wanted was a referral to seek attention else where & they proved exactly why that was the best decision for me with each encounter I have.

Whoever was working the food service call line on thanksgiving at 1700, her (her name was June*) customer service is trash. Definitely shouldn't be the one taking orders from patients who has been admitted into the hospital. Angela who took orders earlier in the day is amazing.

This review is written in the attempt to warn a Certain Demographic, due to the systemic discrimination that I've received for over an extended (5 years) what to expect at James A Lovell dod/VA medical center. Most recent being ENT clinic, where the physician Joseph Spellman, CDR usn. and his nurse Jennifer failed to provide me care (surgical procedure) for the second time now, On my healthy vet after the pre appointment, They put into my medical records that I was seen at hines va (which is a lie) for a procedure that was done at Lovell in 2019-20 Aug,(thyroid biopsy) performed by his predecessor Dr Perry. Not only this, I was told back then by him (Spellman jr officer) at the time, that I would not need to be checked anymore for my thyroid issues.. Fast forward to now April 2025, not only was I set up for a throat procedure, to have tissue removed, uvelectomy only for them to cancel me then, and now after his office pre op about what to expect during the procedure and what meds not to take both times. I am not understanding why would he do on this latest issue knowing I have a heart condition (hypertension) twice now knowing what will show up on my ekg results. All I can figure is that there is Some homesteading and discriminating and Gatekeeping via him and his condescending nurse who loves raising her voice in demeaning manner. He needs to be transferred and she needs to be relived of her duties.. James A Lovell would not approve.. D.W. USN ret.

Columbus day vacation is more important than your healthcare doesn't matter if you have broken bones. No one there can help you or give authorization to be seen at a local hospital. Support vets as long as it doesn't interfere with your long weekend. Typical government.

I mean it’s a federal hospital what do you expect. It’s okay. Some nurses are the kindest people ever. Some are the complete opposite. Here they reach equilibrium. Just an okay experience.

The biggest JOKE in the whole hospital. It has taken over an hour for them to fill a Vitamin D supplement. Approached the person at the window when I received a text saying there was going to be an even longer delay. She tried telling me they had a system outage. This section of the entire hospital has the most amount of liars, with zero integrity people in a single room. The only commitment they have is to collect their paycheck with the least amount of work possibly done. Finally got it an hour and twenty minutes later. It took them that long to print a label, pull the manufacturer sealed bottle that all they had off the shelf, put the label on it, have a pharmacists confirm and then give to me. **UPDATE** BLDG 135 is where you have your burn pit exam. Staff parks on pedestrian sidewalks forcing you to walk in the road while other staff scream at you for trying to enter the building. Only tried to enter through that door because the main entrance was closed for the replacement of the concrete leading to the door. Yelled at to use that door still even though it was closed/blocked. UPDATE: I have had about 3 or 4 appointments in the past 45 days and it seems the new hires are dead weight and only want to show up half dressed. This same girl I have only seen walking around with an ID and food. I have seen this every time I have come in. Today was worse because I got to see her butt. If I wanted to see butt cheeks, I'dgo to the club. Pharmacy is now playing games. If you don't tell them the names off ALL Rx's to be filled, they won't fill them. So if you don't get a written list from HCP or they add a med and it's not something you are aware off. You not getting them. UPDATE: Scheduled surgery. It's at 6:30 am. They decide to close the main parking garage and are directing folks to the back parking garage which they also have blocked off. Staff in check-in, says they knew about the maintenance. And when asked why they weren't letting patients know when they called to give surgery time, we weren't told too.......

never thought a military hospital would be the most unprofessional & and worst hospital i ever stepped foot in , nurses are VERY rude throw things at patients, call them names , most of the higher ups there are just there for a power trip it seems like. 0/10

This hospital is my lifesaver! I've been a patient there for 8 years and I receive the best care there. I have experience from almost all the clinics except dermatology. I had major and minor surgeries performed, numerous procedures, tests, labs, you name it. They have state of the art technology, diagnostic equipment, and referrals to non-VA hospitals for nuclear medicine. I currently see several doctors on a regular basis, and they all know exactly what I'm dealing with. They are extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and think outside the box. They emphasize whole patient care, body, mind, spirit, nutrition, exercise, etc. One time, during my surgery, there were unexpected complications and a second pair of hands was needed. My surgeon called the other surgeon who was on leave and she came to assist immediately. I stayed there for a week after the surgery, which was successful and they saved my life. My current primary doctor is phenomenal! Other specialists and therapists as well. I had great experiences with physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy (individual and group) and supporting staff. I am able to reach the doctors very easy through secure messaging and they respond if not the same day then definitely the next. Some of the doctors I can reach directly by phone to report serious adverse events due to my illness or medications. MyHealtheVet is an excellent tool to order your prescriptions, access your health records, appointments, and contact the doctors and their staff. FHCC communicates with other VA and non-VA hospitals very well. When I was going through a cancer scare, the entire diagnostic process took only six weeks from my initial visit to their ER on June 30 to final diagnosis on August 13. This process involved lab tests, bronchoscopy, attempted biopsy (however, there was no safe access to the area), PET-CT scan (at Highland Park), and finally exploratory surgery with overnight stay at Zablocki VA in Milwaukee. It was an ordeal because of unknown, but the diagnostic process was perfect. For two years now since the diagnosis I'm treated, have constantly updated and regulated medications, labs, and scans and everything is synchronized perfectly. I still have to visit the ER sometimes, but I'm treated there with dignity and respect. Yes, I have to wait, like everywhere else. However, when I showed up with chest pain, I was seen immediately. If I was unhappy about some customer service issue, I went to Patient Advocates who are very helpful, compassionate and act immediately. I usually get a call back from the clinic the next day that issue was resolved. As they say, as a patient you are your best advocate. If there is a problem, address it with proper personnel and it will be fixed.
