Captain Morgan's Retreat

The Casita is perfect. The service was excellent. Everything is clean and in good working order. People here are wonderful and everyone does their best to make your experience a positive one. The sad truth is San Pedro has changed dramatically in the last years and it’s simply not what it used to be. Re Captain Morgan’s— Be aware that the restaurant and the Front Desk close at 7 PM so if you get in late, you will not be able to eat. Also be aware that there is really no beach here. At some point San Pedro decided to dump dirt all along the shore so there really is no way to walk out and go snorkeling the way we could back in 2017. And there are crocodiles who live in the mangroves just steps away from the hotel so if you have a dog, keep them on the leash. San Pedro has changed a lot and frankly not for the better. It is very overbuilt very crowded and far too many outsiders. I won’t be staying here again.

Accommodations are nice, clean and comfortable. Location on the island is good. People are friendly. It really only lacks onsite amenities. Be prepared to go elsewhere each day and if you have young children there is not much there for them other than the pool. We have stayed there twice. This time we were disappointed at the lack of effort cleaning up the rotten seaweed on their beach. Take care of Moon Child if you see her there, she’s a sweet girl.

I think the resort should honestly be a 3 star hotel. We booked a deluxe cabana. The rooms didn't feel adequately lit as well as the bathroom. They don't provide free water?! They have a weird person device WiFi policy and my laptop was not able to connect to their WiFi. There was a weird stink near the water area because of red sand (my guess was that it was compost?) On the contrary, my stay in Corona Del Mar was much pleasant at a better rate - they provided 5 gallons of water (!), the WiFi was way better, the water looked clean, provided unlimited rum punch and the rooms were priced way lower for a similar view!!

this is a very unassuming place . we drove by this place for 10 yrs , from the road it’s not appealing , but ocean side is amazing. the sargassum smells at times and they don’t seem to clean it everyday like some resorts do. Inside the palapa we stayed in, you could smell a faint smell of sewer problems (not unusual for island plumbing sometimes) staff was fabulous and so very friendly. access to the condo pool and bar was top notch with Ronald the bartender. very nice covered dock for boats to pick you up and for you to sit and watch the water and sunrise. The water wasn’t as clear as some places we have stayed but i chalk that up to a rough sea weed season. The pricing made it a great place and not too far from town. close to spa, grocery store, and restaurants. close to truck stop. you’ll need a golf cart most likely and Captain morgan’s can help you get one.

The staff was eager and helpful. Phil and Alex , at the front desk, assisted with our check in/out in a seamless fashion. Joel was eager to share his pride in Morgan’s Table and the pool bar. Gani was on top of security and multitasking. Raoul was on time and ready for us, whenever we needed a shuttle. Roger also manned the shuttle, but really shined when he arranged our mainland tour and our snorkeling/Caye Caulker trip. He understood our needs, and lined us up with the perfect guides to give us our very best days. |Be aware that the resort is undergoing significant and well needed renovations, but that being said, the resort grounds are spectacular and the location is just far enough north of town, to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.

Run down resort. Booked for three nights and completely underwhelming for the price. Restaurant was sub-standard with limited menu and zero vibe - minimal patronage. “Beach” was non-existent - no way anyone would even try to swim there. Office open only about 7-7 which makes late checkin and early checkout hard. Many better places up and down the island. They should close and do a full renovation or just close.

We are just coming to the end of our two week stay at Captain Morgan’s Retreat. We have been visiting and staying at this resort since 2003. While things are always change here, some things remain the same. The wonderful people who work here never fail to make you feel at home. For example, Jennifer at Rose Spa, located next to main pool and bar, has made my experience here all the better thanks to her restorative and relaxing spa treatments. Don’t miss out on the massage plus facial specials. My favorite treatment is the full body scrub. I left feeling relaxed and glowing. I feel so lucky to have her services right here at the resort. Joel at the bar makes you feel like an old friend. We have been scheduling our excursions through the office and have been so happy with the price and quality of all of our trips. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful resort. We just keep coming back for more.

Phil Canto-Front Desk Supervisor did an marvelous job, over the course of my stay at Captain Morgan's Retreat. Phil ensured room service kept our rooms clean and provided fresh towels available each day. When we needed his assistance to set up our parasailing and jet-skiing tours, he interacted with the event managers and provided us with the location and times to meet, with the host of each event. Phil provided us with a list of the best places to eat and have a great evening. I will advise my family and friends visiting San Pedro to stay at Captain Morgan's Retreat, and to make sure they get to know Phil.
