Absolutely incredible stay at Captain Nickels Inn! The entire property is spotless and beautifully maintained. Our room was immaculate — every detail felt thoughtfully cared for. The view of the bay is breathtaking, and we loved relaxing on the charming porch and exploring the peaceful surrounding area. The food was absolutely delicious, and Donna and the entire staff were so kind, helpful, and welcoming. A perfect blend of comfort, charm, and hospitality. Can’t wait to come back!

On a short trip up the coast of Maine we selected Captain Nichols Inn to stay for our first night. The property was even more stunning than any photos could capture. The gardens were in bloom and the smell of lilacs filled the air. We arrived late so we didn’t meet Dawn until breakfast the following morning. She cheerfully introduced herself and immediately made us feel welcomed. The dining rooms were immaculately set and the views are spectacular. Tea and coffee were served along with a fresh bowl of fruit followed by a wonderfully prepared hearty breakfast. We stayed in the Edna room which is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Since we booked last minute it was the only room available but we were not at all disappointed. The room has its own private bathroom steps down the hall. We did not find this inconvenient due to the fact that we were the only ones with access. The robes are soft and cuddly and the linens are plush. With more planning in the future to stay for more than one night we will definitely be returning to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views and hospitality. Thank you Dawn. The details you put into every aspect of your home reflect the love you have for the beautiful property.

This inn is gorgeous! From the beautiful historic details restored with skill and kept with care to the luxurious linens and homemade breakfasts you will be impressed with every bit! The location is peaceful. Its oversized side porch, balconies and decks overlook a sweeping lawn down to the ocean. The Inn is within a small town but just a quick drive to Belfast and can’t miss sites. Perhaps the best feature though is the Inn Keeper (and staff). She is kind and helpful and finds the perfect balance between friendly and professional.

My family just returned home from a stay at the Captain Nickels Inn. We had such a lovely stay! Dawn and her team are very welcoming, and the grounds, common rooms, and guest rooms are beautiful. The breakfasts were a delicious and filling way to start our days. The location of the inn is perfect for exploring both Acadia and Mid Coast Maine. I highly recommend staying here if you're visiting the area!

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Captain Nickels inn in Searsport Maine. This was one of our most relaxing and enjoyable experience! The inn and location are beautiful!! We can't say enough about all the accommodations that Dawn and Hillary provided for us during our stay! We stayed for two nights in the Captain's suite and highly recommend it!! Dawn is the most helpful and caring inn keeper you will ever meet! We can't wait to go back!

Everything was perfect. This Inn has the most beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. You can just tell so much thought and care went into making this house feel like home for all of their guests. We appreciated the delicious breakfast every morning! The birthday flowers and cake were also such a sweet touch for a 30th birthday we were celebrating.

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Capt Nickels. Everything was spot on - comfortable & clean room, very tasty breakfast, well-appointed, and welcoming. The house has been beautifully cared for - original features blended with modern comforts are surrounded by antiques which are personal to the home. The view from the bar area is fantastic - even in winter with impending snow, we enjoyed the view. Would recommend and we will be back!

Captain Nickels is a special, special place! Our room, the Captain's Suite, is the most beautiful hotel room I have ever stayed in, and I am very well travelled! Every single detail was thoughtful and unique, the breakfasts were delicious, the service was perfect and the view and location were wonderful. Will definitely return!

Yelp
I had a wonderful romantic weekend here. We stayed in the Elizabeth room which was the perfect fit for 2. The bed was comfy and the standalone bathtub was a fun addition. The breakfast was amazing. We enjoyed both the French toast with praline topping and the eggs Florentine accompanied by pound cake and fruit. The waitress was very friendly and eagerly accommodated our request to eat breakfast outside. The grounds of the inn are gorgeous. There is a perfectly manicured lawn which leads straight to the ocean. For me, this area holds particular significance as it is where I got engaged! The inn is reasonably close to Bar Harbor / Acadia as well as local wineries and hikes. I would definitely recommend Captain Nickels Inn to anyone looking for a classy getaway in Midcoast Maine.

Yelp
This Inn is beautiful, clean, and pleasant - it's on the National Register of Historic Places. The inn-keeper was very friendly and helpful to tell us about the area. I felt like she really cared for her guests. There is a porch outside where you can sit and relax. It is driving distance to small towns like Camden and Belfast, as well as Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Delicious breakfasts such as blueberry pancakes or a grilled cheese and egg sandwich are served. The waitress that works there is amazing. And every table was a good table - there are no bad seats in the breakfast area. There is a tavern with a beautiful view, opened for the inn guests during the afternoon and we met other guests there - so that was cool. Coffee/tea is available whenever you want as well as there are cookies in the afternoon. We enjoyed our stay there. The only thing I would suggest that if you are going to walk on the lawn down to the water, WEAR BUG SPRAY. We took a walk down to the water - it was a 6 minute walk for us - but on the way back, the bugs (sand fleas or mosquitoes) were biting me and I knew I was going to have 6 minutes of bites. But that didn't deter me from enjoying my time here. I did not hear any traffic outside while I was staying here. If you are in the area looking for a bed and breakfast, I recommend this one.

Yelp
This is a special place. Charming, historic, modern and super clean. The rooms are well-appointed, spacious and have all the amenities one could want. Gourmet breakfast is included every day with a changing menu. Dawn and her staff are genuine, accommodating and anxious to please. Near to all and far away from all. A true gem!

Yelp
I'm sorry that it took me awhile to write this, but my wife and I had the pleasure of staying here for the fifth year in a row back in March and we already can't wait to go back. Due to street construction, they were going to be closed during our annual visit, but after a short email, Dawn opened back up just for us. We are so glad she did because we had another incredible and memorable weekend there. Each year the rooms continue to get more spectacular with additional little touches to make them even more special. Although we love staying in the Captain's Suite, every room is unique and a joy to stay in. Even though Cassidy has moved on to her own adventure (an awesome bookstore in town), Dawn continues the tradition of incredible breakfasts, which I would happily enjoy anytime of the day. Thanks Dawn. We can't wait to visit again next year and can't wait to see what you are going to do next.

Yelp
We loved every minute of our stay here. The grounds are stunning and expansive. We walked around them a few times to enjoy the view. There are also some binoculars available which made looking at the stars even more enjoyable. Our room was the London room. The bed was so comfortable I had to look up the brand of sheets so I can buy some when I get home. The ac/heating units were great & effective and the garden views from the room just caught a bit of the sunrise and were lovely. We stayed two nights and each morning breakfast was delicious. Every detail has been thought out at this beautiful Inn. The hosts were warm & welcoming. We loved our stay so much. We highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
I was just in awe with the beauty of this inn. Our stay was perfect. It was quiet which was what we were looking for and the ladies were very accommodating. The inn was accessible to camden, bar harbor and winter harbor.

Yelp
Our stay here was on a whim. This was an amazing place that felt like home. Breakfast was delicious. Best sleep we had on this trip. Would absolutely would stay here again, and would recommend Captain Nickles Inn to anyone visiting the area.

Yelp
Awful service, rented multiple rooms for a wedding . The inn keeper acted like we were an inconvenience and told the mother of the bride to just leave. Do not recommend!

Marion B.

Yelp
Captain Nickels Inn is the best. It is a most handsome building, unbelievable cabinetry and furniture, wonderfully prepared food, beautiful ocean views, friendly early evening bar, attentive and thoughtful staff, located close to everything, and has a busy but very lovely host.

Shawn G.

Yelp
Stayed in the Captain's suite and had a great time. Staff (Dawn & Cassidy) were delightful. They prepared a great breakfast daily and even remembered we requested decaf coffee. Our suite had a porch and access to the widows walk which was really unique. The building dates back to the 1800s so there is a great deal of history there. I'd highly recommend it. Also very convenient if you want to head up to Acadia, we did a couple day trips.

Yelp
The breakfast is of Michelin star quality. I will have my wedding at the Captain Nickels Inn. Great location and the resort like inn is beautiful

Yelp
Captain Nickels Inn is the listing in the dictionary to define a Bed and Breakfast. Fantastic. Extraordinary house...wonderful grounds right down to the water. Beautiful furnishings. Owners are young and super responsive, yet not intrusive. Breakfast was terrific. Bed was oh so comfortable. Bathroom was updated with new fixtures. Inside was as lovely as the outside. Stay here and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
A scenic 45 minute drive from Bangor Intl Airport brought us to Captain Nickels Inn. The historic home has been beautifully restored. Our 4 night stay in the Port of Call Paris room had views to the water's edge overlooking the expansive lawn. We could mingle with other guests in the parlors, tavern, or sun-filled dining areas. Porches and comfortable seating on the lawn let us enjoy the fresh sea breezes. Dawn and Cassidy together have brought old world style and comfort to this Searsport B n' B. Every different breakfast was a culinary delight. Centrally located, we did easy day trips up to Acadia Natl Park and down to Boothbay Harbor, but returning to the Captain Nickels Inn to relax was the best part of our Maine vacation. We are ready to plan our next visit!

Yelp
We had our wedding at the Captain Nickels Inn at the end of September and it was better than we ever could have imagined. The drive down Main Street was very pleasant but when we arrived at the Captain Nickels, we couldn't believe we would be staying at such a picturesque house. When you walk in you can feel the history, but just to be sure Dawn was there to greet us and tell us a little history about this amazing house. Every morning we woke up to have some of the best breakfasts we had on our entire trip to Maine in a wonderfully sunlit room-- all thanks to Cassidy and Dawn. We had a small wedding out back by the water's edge and it was exactly what we envisioned. Dawn and Cassidy even made sure we could have a mini-reception afterwards in the house for cake and champagne before we all went out for dinner that night, making the day just that much more special for us. And how could our photographs from that day possibly have had a better setting?! We were absolutely blown away by the service, the warmness and the comfort we experienced during our stay. We can't wait to come back and try all the other lovely rooms.

Yelp
The Captain Nichols Inn is an amazing Maine Bed and Breakfast. It has the most spectacular views, the most beautiful rooms (Go for the Port of Call Havana!) and the most wonderful, welcoming inn keepers. The breakfasts are delightful. There is plenty of room to sit and talk, inside or outside. The whole place is charming, clean, and remarkable. I was there for a relaxing weekend, but I would highly recommend it for a wedding, family reunion or business event. There are plenty of local day-trips you can make from Searsport, and I found out on my weekend there that the local businesses are so sweet, the restaurants are great. There are also lots of places to walk and explore close by, or you could just spend the whole time at the inn! Cass and Dawn have made a remarkable place for us to all visit!

Yelp
My wife and I recently stayed here and enjoyed the stay. The house has lots of charm and character, the owners have spent (and are continuing to spend) a lot of time and effort in maintaining the house and property. The owners were friendly and professional. We enjoyed a great breakfast before we departed. If you are looking for a stay at a classic bed & breakfast you will enjoy Captain Nickels Inn.

Yelp
This is a well maintained B and B with lots of charm and a lovely long back lawn rolling down to the water. If you are a sound sleeper who doesn't mind road noise, you may have a lovely stay. We didn't realize from others' reviews that the Inn is on top of Route 1... there was constant loud truck and car noise all night long. We did not sleep our first night... at all... which really put a damper on our visit...the inn provides white noise machines but it really doesn't make a dent in the truck and car noise. Our second night we took sleeping pills and blasted the ac fan and the white noise machine and managed a few hours sleep. It mystifies me that reviewers don't mention the noise. Maybe our room, the Harriet, was uniquely bad? The breakfasts were delicious and the inn keeper seems to be working really hard and I sense wants things to be perfect? We don't usually stay in B and B's... maybe road noise is a common known issue for old houses built pre automobile era? Wish we'd known....

Yelp
We stayed here for a night on our way up to Castine. The place was beautiful. It is a very old unique house with an interesting history. The owner and her daughter were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were very well kept. My favorite thing was the breakfast, it was delicious! It rained, so we did not use the outside, but I kept looking out thinking about how amazing it would be. I also think it will be an awesome wedding venue one day.

Yelp
Three course breakfast, short walk to a private ocean vista, quaint inn with wonderful hosts.

Yelp
We just left from an incredible stay at Captain Nickels Inn. The rooms are beautiful, unique and clean. The bed is comfortable and breakfast is a homemade 5 star meal! The view from the Inn is amazing with a beautiful walk down to 180 degree ocean view. The owners were so lovely, hospitable and accommodating. It was such a pleasure to stay at their Inn. We will definitely be back to enjoy another wonderful experience.

Yelp
Unexpectedly good and better each day that we stayed. We booked this inn because it was centrally located on the mid-coast harbor of Maine, had a great price and suite that over-looked the harbor. At $200 a night, it was a peach of a deal. We made our reservation back in the spring before the summer prices. We normally stay in the Select Registry inns so this was a venture for us but they were all $400-$700 a night in this area and the rooms were not as big, not as private and were triple the price for the same amenities. We stayed in the Captain's Suite. The room was spacious with a sturdy king-sized bed and lots of floor space. The bathroom was also spacious with a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. There was a small kitchenette with a microwave, sink and Keurig. There was a living area with a big flat screen. Best of all there was an amazing porch that looked out over the harbor where the full moon rose every evening over the water. This porch was SO enjoyable for coffee in the morning, a mid-day book or and evening glass of wine. The food was delicious and generous. There was a 3 course breakfast each morning that would keep you fed til mid afternoon. First course of a dish of fresh fruit. It varies each day, sometimes with thinly sliced smoked meat, sometimes with yogurt. The main course was some sort of egg, meat and starch. They were all hearty and delicious. It varied each day from Eggs Benedict to quiche to scrambled eggs with bacon and hash-browns. The last course was some pastry like creme brulee french toast or Belgian waffles. They were quick to take note of my allergens and modify the meal for me. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening it was equally well done. At the end of each day we returned to the room to find a complimentary cheese and fruit tray and a glass of our wine of choice. It was a generous and unexpected perk. The service was the best. Brenda and Mike bought the place about a year ago and are still renovating this inn from the 1800s. It did not stop them from being friendly, attending to everything that we needed and providing the friendly, personable service. They really put the crowning edge on this experience. By the end of the stay, they felt like old friends that we need to get back to visit soon. At first glance, we were concerned that this small town inn would be less than what we expected. There were a few glitches with small details like missing towels in the kitchenette, or limited hanging space but those problems were minor. In the end, it turned out to be great experience with genuine service and wonderful food at a great price. I'll be back.

Yelp
I booked a night here and due to Covid-19 they had other rooms available so actually upgraded me for free! It's a beautiful property and very peaceful. The breakfast was great, the set up was super fancy like a tea party in a castle :) I was also offered wine and cookies. I really enjoyed my stay.I will definitely come back when I'm back in the area.

Yelp
Grand home lovingly restored. Very comfortable and clean, great food, full bar, warm hospitality. The back yard goes all the way to the water, lovely. Great value too! Memorable visit.

Sue H.

Yelp
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The upscale breakfast was to die for! Beautiful very large old captain's home. Kind of looked like a ship from the backyard. Nice waterfront property on the Penobscot Bay. We don't usually stay at inns but at a little over $200 for a family of four, this inn was quite affordable. Nice location too - between Acadia N.P. and Camden, ME.
