Captain's Club Hotel, Christchurch, Dorset, England - Explore & Book

"Christchurch is a great destination for a UK holiday, thanks to its beautiful sandy beaches, its proximity to Europe's largest natural harbour at Poole, and the attractions of Bournemouth and the New Forest nearby. It’s always been popular, but while it was home to a Pontin's Holiday Resort until the early 1990s, you'll now find something altogether more stylish. This modern, nautical building of wood panelling, aquamarine port holes and swathes of glass is a destination in its own right. Housing a luxurious spa, a lively bar popular with locals, and an atmospheric restaurant serving great seafood, we soon fell into holiday mode. Sipping champagne on the terrace, overlooking a river dotted with sailing boats and swans, it felt like the perfect spot for a short break. And thankfully, there was not a Pontin's blue coat in sight. Highs Fantastic location: picturesque, popular, and perfect for pottering about the park and taking the ferry to nearby beachesA luxurious spa with a hydrotherapy pool; we booked in for a massage during our visit and couldn’t recommend it highly enoughAll rooms have river views and a sunny evening on the riverfront terrace calls for cocktailsA creative dinner menu and wine list; afternoon teas are also a highlight (pre-booking is essential)Families will feel right at home in the 2- and 3-bedroom suites Lows In summer, noise carries from the terrace to the rooms above. However, diners must move indoors at 11pm, and, let's face it, you'll probably be down there with themThe function spaces regularly host events, making it a touch more corporate than most i-escape offeringsThe interior design is cool and calming, but not cutting-edge The air con unit can be heard from certain roomsBook ahead for the popular spa and restaurant" - Emma Taylor

After our original accommodation was cancelled at the last minute, I was frantically trying to find accessible accommodation, during the summer holidays, and over one of the hottest weekends of the year! Julia from the Captains Club not only found us a solution, but made us feel like we were old friends coming back to our favourite spot. From the moment we booked, every single encounter with a member of the Captains Club team was warm, helpful, friendly, funny - they really went above and beyond to make our stay special. David welcomed us at reception and gave us some local tips. We were in the three bed suite which gave us so much space, and was perfect for relaxing and looking out onto the river. The room needed a few adjustments as my partner uses a wheelchair, and Hassan was quick to make everything perfect, and seemed genuinely happy to be able to make our stay even better. The bed was one of the comfiest I've slept on. The location is exceptional, the terrace is a lovely spot and we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. The food, wine, cocktails and service were all excellent. Harry and the team provided incredible service and there was never a second where were left wanting anything. I used the spa which was lovely and use of the facilities is free for guests. There's also parking available and local shops and restaurants nearby. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to be back with more friends and family!

An absolutely beautiful stay, personal service, attentive and friendly. Rooms are immaculate and spacious with wonderful amenities. Comfortable bed, beautiful room, quiet and we slept like babies. The Captain’s Club gives top London hotels a run for their money, would not hesitate to stay again.

What amazingly friendly staff. ||Our stay began with our reserved parking in the hotel. Our room was ready early so we checked in. What a lovely surprise, we had been allocated a 2 bedroomed suite, with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen/lounge area. We had spectacular views of the riverside from the master bedroom and lounge area. Towels were large and plentiful and robes were provided if we required them.|The food in the restaurant was delicious, the restaurant/bar manager, Harry, was charming and wanted to ensure our evening was enjoyable, which it was.|Breakfast was again very tasty with pleasant staff. Thank you to all the staff for such a happy and special stay.

We stayed here for our 25th Anniversary so decided to book for our 30th. We are local to the area and often eat here so this is why we decided to stay here. On arriving in the car park it was lovely to see a space was reserved for us. The reception staff were very polite and welcoming. We went to our room, what a lovely surprise as we had been upgraded to a suite which was absolutely beautiful. The views were stunning and the room was so spacious and comfortable.| We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, which was gorgeous. We went for the set menu and my starter of Scotch eggs was absolutely huge, nearly a meal in itself. We both had the seasonal pie which was delicious. We were so full we sadly had no room for a sweet.|We both had a very good nights sleep, very quiet. The breakfast was outstanding. All fresh and very hot and we weren’t rushed so it was nice just to sit and relax. Just need to persuade my husband to book every Anniversary now. Thank you for making our day special

THE WELCOME - We stayed 2 nights at the captains club. We arrived a bit early for check in but wanted to see if our room was ready. I spoke to the young lady at reception as the gentleman was helping another guest and she told me that our accessible friendly room was ready.  I told her that we didn't need an accessible room and asked if we could have another room. Just as she was about to check, the man next to her very aggressively and loudly said "We do not have any other rooms. We are fully booked." I was surprised by his abruptness but accepted the room. There are many polite ways of giving the same information. Based on my 50+ years of travel around the world I know that rooms can be reallocated especially if you arrive before the normal check in time as not all guests will have arrived. This was not a good start to our stay. |THE ACCOMMODATION - Our room was spacious, seemed clean and had a good view. However, it was more like a hospital room with totally bare walls - it had no character. The worst aspect of this room was the regular noise through the vent of waste water which sometimes sounded like a toilet flushing and other times lasted longer. It was not pleasant. The bathroom was spacious but had no more amenities than a Travel lodge and had mouldy shower grout.|BREAKFAST DAY 1 - Breakfast on the first morning was mixed. The quality of the hot breakfast was good but was a very small portion and an item was missed off one plate. There were 4 waitresses and 3 waiters with 7 tables occupied at various stages of eating. The waiters seemed to concentrate on bringing food to the tables from the kitchen while the waitresses were in charge of the rest. The waiters seemed busy and efficient but the same cannot be said of the waitresses. They did not clear the tables of used crockery so guests can start on their next course and some guests got up to move their used plates themselves to another empty table. The waitresses didn't check on us to see if we needed anything. There were 2 of them standing in the corner just watching and doing nothing and at one point the 4 of them were standing there just watching. |BREAKFAST DAY 2 - Breakfast on the second day was similar. I wanted to sit at an empty table that had 2 place settings but the waitress insisted that they were not using that table apart from the table next to it that had several place settings. When I asked why she gave me a weird and unconvincing reason.  Strangely enough a few minutes later another couple who arrived for breakfast were allowed to sit there.  Yet again another item was missed off one breakfast. Nobody asked us if we needed anything else either.|WI-FI - In the public areas the wi-fi was patchy and kept disconnecting every few minutes.

We stayed here for one night. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost courtesy and made to feel very welcome. Our room was clean, well designed and had a beautiful view of the river. The bed was comfy, and there was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed a couple of well made cocktails on the terrace in the sunshine, and then a very nice dinner in the restaurant. The food was flavoursome and well presented, and service was attentive and friendly. Breakfast in the morning was excellent too, with a range of choices. Service was a little slow at times, but this made us feel relaxed. We could also appreciate that the kitchen were cooking everything fresh, and making sure that the food was of quality, not just pre cooked and put on a plate. I would highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant.

Due to staying local for a week we used the Captain's Club on several occasions. ||Firstly we visited one day for lunch, where we had a crab salad, very enjoyable. ||Next we had an afternoon tea. It was lovely, presented well with a good variety on offer.|| Finally last day of our holiday, evening meal. Never had so many prawns on our prawn cocktail followed by cod. A lovely end to our holiday.||Every member of staff were polite, friendly and made you feel very welcome.

Another visit to this lovely hotel overlooking the river where we enjoyed watching the rowers, paddle boarders, dragon boat and dogs enjoying a swim. Great bar with plenty of choice. Restaurant food was delicious and staff were friendly and apologetic when service was delayed. The room was clean and bright with fantastic views and house keeping were wonderful and always cheerful. We had a day in the spa and can seriously recommend the facial and Swedish massage. The pool was lovely and warm, there was a secluded and sheltered outdoor sunbathing area. Second time visiting though that I have had to highlight an item that was missed off our bill. Hope to be rewarded for my honesty when I return next time!
