We had a fantastic stay at the Captains House Inn. There was so much character and charm and we stayed in the very spacious and had everything we needed and more. We picked a busy weekend to to stay over Valentine’s Day/Presidents’ Day weekend and it appeared to be fully booked. However, Rachel didn’t miss a beat, and made sure we were always taken care of. Breakfast was phenomenal and we will definitely be staying here again on our next visit to Chatham.

I really want to emphasize how wonderful the innkeeper was. Rachel truly went above and beyond as the perfect host for our weekend getaway. She was incredibly responsive and welcoming, ensuring that any issues we had were addressed quickly and efficiently. The property itself is absolutely stunning, and the thoughtful extra touches - like the homemade baked goods and port in the library - made our stay even more special. We hope to stay again!

This was overall a wonderful experience. The inn is lovely and the breakfast was excellent. We stayed in the Garden Room which is very accessible though if you are really tall you might hit the ceiling! The bathroom was quite modern (great step in shower) and the bed really comfortable. Bringing coffee/tea to. your room in the morning was a very nice touch. We had thought about staying at the Chatham Bars Inn but when we saw the price (cheapest room at $745 on a Tuesday in October??) we decided to try this place and it was affordable and worth every penny.

What a charming property. We felt so comfortable staying here and loved the attention we received from the staff. We felt so welcomed. Highlights included ease of parking, walking distance to the Chatham Fish Market and the absolutely gorgeous gardens and lawns. Compaion and I stayed in the “Wild Pigeon” suite and were so happy with the size of the room and its fireplace. The balcony was an added bonus. |Best breakfast ever!

My wife and I plan on returning as soon as we can. It was just that lovely! We had the smallest room available, the Garden Room, but it was private, very comfortable, and had an excellent bed. The attached bathroom was pretty big too, with a large walk-in shower. Also, the ceiling in this room was fine for average height guests, but if you're especially tall, you may want to try another room.|This room also had its own entrance and a back door leading to a quiet little courtyard/side yard. |The property's location is within walking distance of Chatham village. Walking maybe 15 minutes more can get you to the fish pier and the lighthouse up by the Coast Guard station.

We have been staying here for Thanksgiving for several years visiting family and we love it. Everyone we met on the staff was very helpful and friendly. I left my blazer there and they returned it beautifully packaged. It's a very pretty place. And good location. Its within a longish walking distance to town and the beach and very near the fish pier.

What started out as just a place to stay in in the Cape, turned iut to be the best part of our trip. What a wonderful and charming historic Inn. We made a quick getaway trip from the Hudson Valley for our anniversary, and we couldn't have been more pleased. The room was so comfortable, and they thought of so many little details. We usually go out for breakfast when away, but the full service breakfast provided here, coupled with its fantastic table service, was as nice as any restaurant could provide. We were not expecting that. There are so many different areas inside and outside of the property to sit and relax, that we found ourselves coming back to the Inn just to hang out. Parking was convenient, check in was easy, and the Inn is located conveniently to town, the beach, and Rt 28. The management and staff did a great job. Just an overall good experience.

We booked a three night stay over the October holiday weekend for our wedding anniversary. We arrived at 7:10 pm and there was no one to welcome us. We had received a call while en route, at around 6:30, from a staff member asking when we’d be arriving. I said per the GPS, a few minutes after 7. She said no one would be there after seven (???) and to look for instructions inside the door marked “concierge.” She had such a strong foreign accent I could barely understand her. |When we arrived we found a note purportedly directing us to our room (in a separate building) but it was very dark outside and we couldn’t find it. I called the emergency number and someone answered who tried to explain but again, it was hard to understand her and she was abrupt and seemed annoyed. ||I can only conclude that the longtime owners of this property sold it and the current ownership has outsourced management. If you are expecting a traditional BnB or inn with local resident innkeepers, look elsewhere. No warm welcome. Period. ||We paid $550 a night for the Hiram Harding room. Atmospheric and historic yes, but not as the website described. The sofa has been replaced by a lone not comfortable chair and in the corner is some bizarre bar unit stocked with a large number of glasses, as if we were going to be entertaining a large group. The bathroom is awful. Tiny and only one old ceiling light. Impossible to see to put makeup on or shave one’s face. Toilet is black ceramic and as the shower glass only extends partially across the opening, it was impossible to not flood the bathroom floor. We had to use our two bath towels to soak up the water. Toiletries inferior- some made in China. No extra blanket provided. ||We specifically booked this room not only because of its historic character because we understood from the website and from calling (again was very difficult to understand what the person on the phone was saying because of their heavy accent) that it was a wood-burning fire. When we received the call while we were en route to the inn I specifically asked if we could use the fireplace as it would be cool that night. We were told it would be set up for us. When we arrived at the room, there was a bag of kindling, some of which had been placed on the grate in the fireplace, with instructions that said simply light “each end” of the wood. Obviously the instructions were referring to a Duraflame log not a pile of kindling. There was no Duraflame log. It was ridiculous. ||Overall a hugely disappointing and unconscionably expensive stay for what we experienced.

Yelp
I hate doing this to a charming little place. But an inn that doesn't let you sleep has to get 1 star. We noticed at 10 pm that a CO detector was randomly sounding. Not consistently enough to be a real problem. Called. Nothing was done. Detector continued to randomly go off at random times during the night. So it's 3 AM and i'm leaving a yelp review instead of sleeping.

Yelp
Had the Most Wonderful Stay here. Will Definitely be coming back. Between the friendliest Staff, beautiful clean room, delicious breakfast, easy parking, perfect location, all made this the most special weekend trip.

Yelp
This is the most adorable B&B I've ever stayed in! It is so charming and pretty large for a traditional bed and breakfast. We decided on this bed and breakfast because my mom stayed here with her parents years ago when she was my age. It was such a full circle moment for her to come back here with me! They have a main house and then a side house as well. The staff is so lovely and welcoming. We stayed in the Lydia room in the outer building. It was huge! Everything was so well decorated and spotlessly clean. The gardens are beautiful and it was super quiet. They have lots of DVDs and games that you can bring back to your room. It is the perfect place to relax and a short drive to the main street in Chatham! The food was awesome as well. I loved the homemade cookies that they leave out at night. The breakfast was incredible! You have to get the homemade coffee cake! It was served piping hot! There were two different kinds and both were just amazing. I had the coconut caramel french toast. It was perfect and I loved the interesting flavor combo! My mom had the BEC on a croissant and loved it as well. We only stayed here one night, but wished we were here longer! It was so amazing. Thanks for making our stay perfect!

Yelp
Just left the Captain's House Inn from their afternoon high tea. Super cute with an exceptionally friendly staff. The hotel was very busy today but the team quickly made us feel welcome. They had a nice selection of teas I had never tried, and as I am strictly a tea drinker, it was a great way to experience some different flavors. I thought the quality of the food and variety of finger sandwiches was fabulous. As someone who is English, I really enjoyed their efforts to make some of the traditional high tea sandwiches like the egg salad, the cucumber with chive cream cheese, the salmon, the chicken salad (which is a bit similar to coronation chicken), the goat cheese with fig jam and Cheddar with Branston pickle. They also provided a lovely selection of sweets and scones with cream + Jam. It was a great way to spend a winter afternoon!

Yelp
This should have been a 5- star experience, but was not. The staff was exhausted from a long summer season and it showed. Dirty tables in the dining room. As guests left , the crumbs and spills remained. I returned to our room on the second day to find some other visitor's USED bathrobe flung over the chair. Yeah, part of the robe was co-mingling with my Candy Manor chocolates. So gross! Why did room service bring another guest's soiled robe into our room? Was she polishing our toothbrushes with it? Lol. God knows. Both nights I woke up to the smell of old man b.o. There was a spray of perfume in the room when we first entered. It was there to cover up the bad smells which inevitably emerge. The rugs were so dirty - just unforgivable given what they charge. We will not return. In fact, we will likely not return to Chatham at all (except The Impudent Oyster).

Yelp
Would go again - I decided to take a vacation to Cape Cod after not being able to go anywhere from COVID. Given the area, I was looking for a place that fits with the Cape Cod vibe and then...found the PERFECT place. Captain's House Inn is such an unique experience. It has that Inn and B&B vibe that fits so well for the area. Free breakfast, ample parking, cozy like a cabin and B&B room setup, friendly staff...absolute gem!

Yelp
Great for a relaxed long weekend stay with plenty of thoughtful touches. From breakfast in the idyllic garden with views of baby bunnies, to a delicious afternoon tea, to port and sherry in the library and evening cookie platters, they certainly keep you well fed. My husband and I stayed in the Eliza Jane room (queen bed, small seating area, enormous bathroom with a large jetted tub). The innkeepers were warm and knowledgeable. A reasonable walk to the town center and nearby small beaches. A few small downsides. The bedroom was a bit narrow, I whacked my elbow on a dresser on my way to bed and had to shift it to partially block the closet in order to have a comfortable walkway. The stairs to the room are very steep and narrow. We were a bit disappointed not to be able to have a late check out on a Monday. Overall a good experience. I would not be surprised if we came for another stay!

Thomas B.

Yelp
Great, traditional inn on the Cape. Everything about the place is first class, with an outstanding breakfast. Just a very nice place to stay.

Joanne R.

Yelp
Whenever in Chatham we never miss the opportunity to go to high tea! Such a unique experience - done right - and fabulously delicious! You get a pot of tea from a selection of flavors and three tiers of finger foods from savory to sweet. Scone of the day and clotted cream, classic finger sandwiches and decadent desserts. Enjoy!!

Jorge G.

Yelp
We stayed in the Eliza Jane room and absolutely loved it! It was close to everything and even though we visited during the off-season, it felt like we still got to experience Chatham. The hosts were incredible. You're probably reading a ton of reviews of how nice everyone is and I 100% echo that. From the moment I called about a question, to actually walking in it was as if I was already a guest and once I actually became a guest, the treatment only got better. Everyone was super friendly and really brought out the charm of the inn. Speaking of charm - you'll feel like you've transported to England. I've never been, but I feel like I have now! If you're a tea lover, you're really going to enjoy the beautiful pots (I know it's a weird thing to note, but they're quite beautiful). The chef made us an incredible breakfast. We had the poached eggs and apple cinnamon pancakes and I want to go back just for breakfast! We also had the high tea when we arrived and I highly recommend it if you're coming from Boston, or another big drive and checking in at 3. It filled us for a few hours before dinner and each treat was delicious. The room was perfect for a couple. It was cozy, but not tight. We went during the winter so the dual-sided fireplace was a perfect amenity, but there's air conditioning in both rooms if you go during the summer. The jacuzzi was very well-sized and you'll find you may want to spend your entire trip in the bathroom haha. Highly recommend and will definitely return!

Yelp
A true gem amidst a sea of places to stay in lovely Chatham, Cape Cod. We stayed in the "Hideaway" room which was an incredibly cozy, yet spacious attic that has that nautical Victorian cape house charm. Beds, linens, towels all incredibly comfortable. We've stayed at quite a few places on the cape and the service you receive here is next to none-- Our concierge, Michelle could not have been more lovely, warm, and welcoming. She went out of her way to make sure we felt right at home. The breakfast, chef, and rest of the staff were also incredible. We can't wait to return.

Rose S.

Yelp
We decided to try a different B&B in Chatham. The hideaway suite is charming and fun. We loved the location of this property. But from the moment we checked in we just felt like second class citizens. Very little hospitality, few amenities. Breakfast was lovely. We just didn't feel welcome.

Davefan P.

Yelp
So happy we were able to spend at least one night here. Will definitely try for longer next time. We arrived on a windy, rainy, stormy night when everyone said to stay away from cape cod that weekend. We are so glad we went down anyway. We were greeted and shown around the inn and everything seemed comfortable and welcoming. Our room was perfect with a separate entrance, and the fireplace was already on for us. The room also had about 5 windows that opened up for fresh air. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom amenities were great. I also like the fact that they have wine and beer chilling in the library available to get at your leisure, and just add the cost to your room tab. Many DVDs to choose from if planning to watch a movie. All in all, a cozy place that is one of a kind. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Spent 2 nights here recently and came away underwhelmed. The previous reviews and their own web site set 'gourmet breakfast', impeccable service and 'nicest room I ever stayed in' kind of expectations. Those expectations were not met. Making reservations was easy enough, and we had a pleasant email exchange the day before our stay that resulted in an upgrade. Day-of received two emails with conflicting information about whether someone would be there to check us in or not. One said until 6:30, one said until 6:00 PM. We arrived before 6 but no one was there. An envelope with door keys was in the concierge area, but no map. There are several buildings on the property. Guessed which one our room was in, but the doors are poorly lit and not so easy to see the room name plaque on the door after dark and in the rain. The room was a good size and clean, but the some of the furnishings were a little shabby and maybe not so clean, including the wing chairs that are definitely not the ones pictured on the web site. Overall the room was adequate. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but a long way below nicest room I've ever stayed in, for sure. We filled out the morning coffee service form and hung it on the door before retiring. No coffee came to the room the next day. There was a big storm, and there were power outages on the Cape, trees down etc. so I'm ok with the coffee not showing up. Less ok that management never contacted to advise that there was a change of plans. We did get breakfast, which was nice because options in town were slim. But there was nothing gourmet about it. Lox was adequate but the bagel was weak. The second day we opted instead for eggs, which were similarly unremarkable - just plain unseasoned scrambled eggs. We were glad to not have to drive around looking for a place with power for breakfast, but this was just basic, prosaic stuff. I didn't get the feeling that anything from the afternoon tea is made on site. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great, either. The location is excellent if you want to be in Chatham and I guess that is why they can still charge the rates they do even off peak season. But we didn't feel it was a great value, probably wouldn't come back, and can't recommend it for others.

Yelp
Went back for High Tea ...today was actually Holiday High Tea. My daughter and I were here a few years back. We enjoyed the great weather by heading to Chatham. After poking around in some stores and then headed for our 2 PM reservation. The entire inn is decorated brightly for the holidays. High tea was served in the conservatory. It was warm and bright with lovely views of the gardens with roses in bloom in Nov. The tea was 18.00 pp. The three tiers featured savory sandwiches, scones and sweets plus a dish of homemade English trifle. We loved the mushroom pasties and the Branston Pickle and English Cheddar sandwiches. The trifle was delicious. We packed all of the cakes and cookies for my daughter to take back to college as we were full. Oh the pots of tea were delicious. I appreciated that they were decanted and hot and steaming. It's a charming spot. I highly recommend this for a perfect Holiday High Team on Cape Cod.

Michael P.

Yelp
Quaint and charming! Personal service was phenomenal! We slept in one day and they called us at 10:00 am to see if we wanted breakfast delivered to the room. (which we did) We stayed in Intrepid and it was very comfortable. Location was great as Main Street and the Pier were within walking distance. The property was beautiful with stunning trees, English & herb gardens and a lush green lawn for croquet. High tea was a nice touch. Overall a relaxing, quiet and private experience. I highly recommend this B&B!

Yelp
Our week-long stay at Captain's House Inn was amazing. The grounds are gorgeous, our room (Lydia Harding Suite) was spacious and immaculate with a mini frig, balcony, separate bedroom and spacious living room both with a fireplace. Each morning we had coffee delivered to our room. Then we would go down to the main house for an incredible breakfast, cooked by Claud. (More food than you could ever eat and so fresh and delicious.) Michelle and Paige were more than helpful. They helped us with reservations wherever we wanted to go, planned out daylong itineraries of beautiful and fun things to do in Chatham. We also ordered the romance package which included an hour couple's massage at a spa nearby, champagne and a platter of cheese, fruit and crackers that were beautifully displayed in our room with fresh flowers when we arrived. The staff is the heart of this beautiful Inn and we were the lucky recipients. This will forever be where we stay in Chatham!!!!

Justin L.

Yelp
Well worth the stay. We only stayed two nights but everything was amazing. The breakfast may have been the best breakfast I've ever had. The buffet is good and the rotating menu options are great. Jill the inn keeper was very attentive and aware of all the customers in the inn. The rooms were lovely. The pool area is comfortable and clean. They offered home made cookies at night. There were cold water bottles that were free to grab whenever. They also had coolers, beach chairs and towels for the beach. I feel like I am missing many more elements that made the stay great. I will most certainly go back next summer !

Denise M.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and facility! The best and most wonderfully surprising part was the array of gluten free foods they were willing to make for me daily. They must have known the way to my heart is through food!! The rooms were quiet and nicely furnished. I would have preferred a room without carpets but it was clean and the bed comfortable. Tea every day was extremely relaxing, breakfast was busy but quiet. Great romantic get away!

Libby O.

Yelp
AMAZING!! The Inn is lovely and very welcoming! We had a great time and would definitely stay again! The staff is wonderful and our room was beautiful, quiet, and extremely clean. The center of Chatham is very close and has great shops and restaurants! I do a lot of research when visiting inns and the Captain's House was a great find!

Laura D.

Yelp
Delightful! Now, an afternoon bridal tea where the host requested guests to don a "going to the derby" hat might sound corny, or snobby, or prissy, but I can tell you I had a wonderful girly time. The house was exquisite and the tea and goodies were scumptious. Felt like something out of a storybook. Anne of Green Gables perhaps? I was recently up in Cape Cod for a wedding, and we had this bridal tea for bridesmaids and close friends the day before. When my oversized straw hat wasn't flopping in my eyes, I took in the beautiful cape-style house and property. We enjoyed our tea in the sun room, looking out onto hydrangeas and fountain on the lawn. It got a little warm, but an unexpected treat on the way to the loo was the air contioned library/sitting room you had to pass through that again felt like something out of a novel. Everything we ate and drank was delcious. About a dozen teas to choose from, all served in a personal teapot each a different design. My chai was delicious and everyone kept raving about the english breakfast and earl grey varieties. First course was miniature sandwiches or "savories" - ham & cheese crepe, turkey on cranberry pecan bread, cucumber & cream cheese, and more, yumm. Second course was scones with creme fraiche, homemade jam and strawberries, as well as an assortment of mini cakes and cookies - the ginger/toffee bar and strawberry shortcake were a couple favs. However, the icing on the cake (or high-heel shoe-shaped cookie as it were), was our server was authentically British! Not sure how many of you are looking for a private tea party on the cape, but if you are, definitely do it at the Captain's House!

Yelp
Our visit here all started out as research for my partners 50th Birthday surprise getaway. I had some requisites of course, rustic or historic, a wood burning fireplace and in a location away from skiing and the sort. After Googling, many articles I read had all mentioned Captains House Inn. 2 pictures had my attention immediately. First impression, wow. So, I contacted them and reserved the Hirum Harding Room. Upon arrival, the staff was overwhelmingly friendly and hospitable, the smell of fresh baked goods present and received a Tour. The time had come to make our way to the room. Upon opening the door, we both were in awe. It was just like the pictures! Sure, the floors were worn, little quirks here and there but all to be happily expected from a building that dates 1800's. Hirum Harding built the house for his love and that is good enough for me! The bedding, sheets, pillows and mattress were amazing and the robes were delicious! This is not a boilerplate experience and should allow yourself to dive into an authentic experience! Due to our own time constraints we didn't get to enjoy port or sherry or any of the fresh baked snacks but Breakfast was absolutely outstanding ! We are planning our next stay as we speak! What a great experience!

Richard B.

Yelp
My girlfriend took me here for my surprise 33rd birthday last weekend, and though it was the off season, Cape Cod was still beautiful. Staying at the Captain's House Inn was very pleasant, I really enjoyed the English breakfasts, as well as the punctual coffee and juice delivery in the mornings. Our bathroom though was a little cramped, I hit my head a few times on the staircase above the toilet. There was a nice collection of movies to watch in the study, as well as free brandy and sherry. The gas fireplace kept us very warm at night too. I liked my stay at the Captain's Inn, it really made me feel like a captain for a weekend ;0)

Susan H.

Yelp
Very relaxing. My stay here was in the Lady Mariah room. Everything about my stay was wonderful. The room was quiet and private as well as beautiful. Have you ever heard of pumpkin pine? The floors are a beautiful glowing natuarally pumpkin colored pine-gorgeous! Breakfasts were delicious and satisfying. Service was perfect and the hosts/inn keepers were very gracious. The Captain's House makes a great home base from which to visit the shore and Chatham is a great point from which to explore the rest of the cape. I look forward to my return!

Daniel L.

Yelp
We just returned from our fourth stay at this excellent bed and breakfast. The owners and staff have been gracious, welcoming, and overall excellent in providing every comfort we could imagine during each of our stays. The last two years we've stayed in the Lydia Harding Suite, which is absolutely fantastic, while previously we've stayed in the Clarissa Suite and the Lady Hope room, which were also very nice. The breakfasts have been consistently fabulous, and the other amenities, such as afternoon tea, and late night snacks have been very enjoyable. They have a nice pool (where they'll serve you lunch if you don't want to stir from your relaxation time), and a small fitness center (to help work off those decadent breakfasts). We have loved every stay here and plan on returning every year.

Claire L.

Yelp
Went for high tea today and absolutely loved it. The tea was delicious (especially the Moon over Madagaskar) and the scones/sandwiches were also incredible. I would recommend this place to any and all of my friends. The scenery outdoors is gorgeous and the environment as a whole is breathtaking.

Jenelle J.

Yelp
What a nice surprise for a bed-and-breakfast! This place is run during the day by English hospitality students who take everything that they do seriously. Which means that the attention to detail for a bed and breakfast was much higher than usual, a great surprise. Additionally, they had high tea (and not to mention English accents) - so really felt like we had gone back to Britain for a night! Of course, the Earl Grey was glorious. And lavender scones + clotted cream = absolutely delicious. Definitely the high point of the stay, even better than the breakfast. The room itself was nicely spacious as well, and a really nice touch that they had a DVD library available - which we took to use! What a fun stay. Definitely recommend if you decide to stay in Chatham!

Katie B.

Yelp
We lucked out by getting this inn on hotwire. After checking out their website I called to add the "romantic package" (bottle of local sparkling wine and fruit and cheese plate) for my boyfriend's birthday as a surprise. They were incredibly pleasant on the phone. When we arrived we were surrounded by Cape charm. The grounds are immaculate and stunning. We loved that there was no desk and we were greeting by and introduced to the staff. We stayed in the Cape Lady and it was absolutely beautiful. Upon arrival my "romantic package" was in the room, complete with the card I had requested. My boyfriend was thrilled and the fruit and cheese selections were amazing! The sparkling wine was surprisingly good, and really the star for me was the rosemary cashews, you'll have to try them. We had breakfast outside, which was beautiful. Even the indoor seating is in a bright sunroom. My boyfriend praised the smoked salmon and the omelettes we ordered were unique and quite delicious. We sadly ran out of time to enjoy tea or croquet on the lawn, but we did make use of the DVD library, which has a varied and large selection for any mood. This was our first B&B experience and it has quite possibly spoiled us. This is a charming and romantic inn in a beautiful town. We will most certainly be back for a longer stay next time to enjoy all the things we missed!

Mark B.

Yelp
A wonderful place to visit with your spouse. The staff is absolutely wonderful. The area accessible and right near downtown Chatham. Wonderful restaurants in the area. A very charming quaint inn. The best place to stay without getting your wallet sucked out by a vacuum cleaner. Highly recommended- my favorite place as well as my wife's. Plenty of snacks with a wonderful high tea! Generally they do except AAA. Don't waste your time with the others.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
My husband and I eloped there in November 2014. I couldn't have been happier with the decision...not only because I am madly in love with my husband, but because we picked an amazing spot to celebrate our romance! The Inn Keeper, Jill, was our JP. She was amazing. Everything was custom to our requests and she was very kind and patient, even re-arranging her afternoon so we could change our ceremony time to a bit later in the day. Our room, which was beautiful, featured a jacuzzi tub, shower and fireplace. The linens were clean and the room was well kept. There was even classical music playing in the room when we arrived. We had the Inn make us reservations for dinner both nights we were there and the restaurant recommendations were right on. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet, quaint getaway. It was a beautiful place and the cake they gave us as part of our wedding celebration was excellent!

Kathleen K.

Yelp
This is our favorite place we have ever stayed!!! The setting is gorgeous, the rooms are spacious yet cozy!!! The grounds are beautiful, the food is delicious and fresh!!! The staff could not be more helpful and pleasant!!! We have stayed here many times in the last 30 years since our honeymoon, it gets better every time. Jill does an amazing job of running the Captains house!!! I have stayed in some 5 star hotels and resorts, nothing compared to staying here!! It is the best of the best!! I can't wait to come back!!!

David R.

Yelp
We have stayed at more that a dozen select registry bed and breakfasts in the Northeast and I have to say this one is in the top 2. The room "Lydia Harding" was the single nicest room I have ever stayed in. People are super friendly, you will not be dissatisfied.

Alexandra R.

Yelp
Upon arriving, you will automatically be impressed with the grounds. Then you'll be even happier when you check in, because the staff is absolutely wonderful. (Katie and Kirsty welcomed us, but every single person turned out to be just as helpful...even the Gardner, who turned out to be one of the owners...lol) The rooms had everything necessary and then some. The library in the main house offered a large collection of DVDs, a wide variety of books and a sampling of sherry and port to enjoy. Every afternoon, they offer afternoon tea which is included with the room. Every morning, they also offer a small buffet breakfast along with a choice of an entree. (Nothing stingy...choices while we were visiting were crab Benedict, bananas foster waffles, smoked salmon. etc.) When enjoying breakfast, one of the owners, Lisa, the wife of the gardener...lol, visited with each table offering help with directions, reservations, recommendations and anything of the like. Overall, the bed and breakfast experience doesn't get any better!

Grant B.

Yelp
Great service across the board. I highly recommend this place. Tea every day, great rooms with fire places.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Stayed for a honeymoon. Captains was a great location! The owners were great, staff good for just starting, and the features were amazing. Stayed in Wild Hunter and couldn't say enough about the room. Breakfasts were above average, with a number of hits and a few misses. The afternoon tea was great. The location gave a great launching pad to explore this portion of the cape. I highly recommend the Captain and would stay again.

Yelp
Jill and the whole team at Captain's House Inn were wonderful hosts for our wedding ceremony this July. The food was great, the people were helpful and the grounds were wonderfully kept! We're excited to return again in the future. A fantastic place with a lot of charm. Highly recommended!

Yelp
My husband & I found this place on the web after searching for a cozy place to elope. Back in 2008 we got married here and had the most amazing wedding & stay. The Inn was so accomodating and arranged a Justice of The Peace, Took photos, made a cake, Made dinner reservations for us. The ground of the Inn are adorable, hidden nooks & garden everywhere. The rooms are so cute & inviting. The Tea is one of my favorite parts of the stay. Amazing Breakfasts every morning. Not one bad thing I can say about This place !! Since our first stay in 2008. We have visited every year on our Anniversary and the stays just keep getting better & better. Keep up the amazing work Jill & James !

Yelp
This magnificent destination in Chatham has provided me with much needed relaxation and deliciousness over the years, always in the off-season, a perfect time to explore the Cape. Off season, the Cape is breathtaking in so many ways. The beauty is harsher and more barren, of course, and the wind can traverse right through every bone, but there are no traffic jams, no parking problems, no long waits for dinner and all kinds of places to explore. When the sun shines and you are ready for a brisk beach walk, you will really get to experience the magic of the Cape. The Captain's House Inn is among the most welcoming of places. As always, the first impression comes from the staff. Many of them are young English students who are going into the hospitality industry. They come to the Captain's House Inn for an extended period of time and are among the most polite and respectful people I have ever encountered. If you need anything, they are happy to get it for you and their quiet, poised professionalism will remind you how important it is to be well mannered. They leave a big impression. All of the public rooms are cozy and inviting without being overly fussy. It's sophisticated chique, not grandma starchy. There are books and magazines to read, movies to bring into your room, a fire to sit next to, and a kitchen that offers tea and coffee any time. You must save room for afternoon tea, which is served in the sunny dining room. It's a real English tea and you may want to start this delightful tradition in your own family after you experience this one, extra calories not withstanding. The breakfasts are enormous, and different every day. When we expressed interest in a couple of the items we had eaten, we were give the recipes. Very sweet. The inn does not serve dinner but they recommended places to go. We ate at some fine restaurants nearby which offered delicious seafood. Some were lively and crowded, others quiet. There's a book filled with menus and many of the restaurants are very kid friendly, as is the inn. The bedrooms are elegant and welcoming. We have stayed in three of them over the years; within moments, I felt entirely comfortable and ready to stay put with my good book and snuggly warm blankets. (If you go to their web site, you can see all kinds of pictures of the rooms which are all different. Their web site is very detailed.) As we have been there in the off season, we spent more time in the room reading, watching football and napping. The bathtubs are huge and perfect for a warm soak after your brisk beach walk. The property is lovely. They do have a pool and a small fitness room. I have been way too lazy during my trips here to try working out, and of course, the pool was closed when we were there. I can't say enough about this lovely inn. They often have special rates, so be sure to check their web site. In fact, now that I have written this review, I think we are going to make a reservation for some time this winter. Just have to decide which gorgeous room to chose and which good book to bring.

Yelp
We've stayed a B&Bs all over New England, from Maine to Rhode Island. The Captain's House was the most satisfying. At the end of our stay, we could not think of a single thing to complain about, so I'll just make a short list of what we really loved about it. Our room was spacious and everything worked. For the duration of our stay, the weather outside was hot and humid, but it was always a relief to return to our room at the inn. The A/C responded quickly as did the gas fireplace late at night (more for ambience). The bathroom was well appointed with every amenity one could want. The decor was rustic, tasteful, classic. Outdoors the grounds and gardens surrounding the main home and cottages were delightful. Plenty of lush green spaces and a nicely cared for herb garden and several fountains. The pool is large and super clean. We found the staff were friendly, personable and always helpful, but not intrusive. The meals were far better than expected. Oh my gosh, the food was SO good! The dining room was clean and bright, tables set beautifully with bone china accents, and surrounded by windows to the gardens. There is also seating for dining outdoors. I still can't get over the breakfasts. The blueberry pancakes were thick and substantial, drenched in wild blueberries, but not overwhelmed in syrup. The Waffles Foster have a delicious caramel sauce that makes you want more, even though portions are always generous. There are egg dishes, smoked salmon, sausage, etc., and other breakfast options including fresh baked goods daily. They serve high tea in the afternoon, but we were always too busy, out sight seeing, to partake. These were just some highlights. The Captains House Inn is in an ideal location for access around the Chatham area. I would highly recommend it. I could tell the owners have spent a lot of time finessing the experience so that no details are missed. Whenever we left for an outing, our room was always cleaned before we returned. Even when we took a fairly brief trip away, we came back to a cleaned up room. In the evening, they even provide bed turn down service with chocolate truffles left for us, just as with best hotels. This inn was a place we looked forward to returning to each day of our Chatham stay. Two thumbs up, definitely. We'll come back again.

Yelp
I agree with every great thing said about the inn. Beautiful grounds, great service and lovely, BIG room with a huge soaking tub. We stayed in Trade Winds. Jill was there at breakfast both mornings to make sure all was good...and it was. Staff was beyond helpful. they were young ladies from Great Britain in training for service. We were there Sept. 8 and 9. Perfect time, perfect weather.

Yelp
Folks I hope I don't sound cliche but this is one of the best B&Bs i had ever stayed in the MA area. This is an excellent place if you want that romantic getaway. The English breakfast was outstanding and Jill one of the owners would stop by to chat. You walk in and its like going back in time in this charming place.

Yelp
I cannot say enough wonderful things that the Captain's House Inn has to offer! This is my husband and my escape from the world, and we only live 45 minutes away. We have stayed many times over the years, and we have never been disappointed. Their attention to detail, the elegance, comfort and cleanliness of the rooms (all with private baths, some with soaking tubs), the food, the friendliness of the staff from the UK as well as the owners, Jill and James, etc.all make this Inn 5 stars! I love B&B's, and have stayed at many over the 25 years we've been married, but we now only choose this Inn for a quick getaway. Close enough to our kids if they need us, but as soon as you walk through the door, and one of the staff greets you, you feel like you've crossed the pond! The rooms are decorated beautifully! Jill has done an amazing job! You can sit in the library and read, or borrow one of their many DVD's available, play a game, or just sit quietly and have a cup of tea, coffee, and some of the treats left out for guests to enjoy. When you are escorted to your room, upon entering, there is a welcome basket with some yummy cookies, and a welcome note personalized with your name(s) on it. At bedtime, enjoy snuggling under the blankets and comforter, on the softest sheets you will ever find at any Inn or hotel, on very comfortable beds. If you have any issues, someone is at your door directly to help you. You can choose to have breakfast brought to your room, or sit and enjoy eating in the sunny dining room. The breakfasts are to die for! Absolutely elegant! If you have special dietary needs, they happily accommodate you. Make sure to take advantage of the complimentary afternoon cream tea, or upgrade to the delightful high tea. The staff is always happy to offer advice on restaurants, shopping, and great ideas of things to do during your stay. They have a small gift shop, where you can purchase teas, soap, body cream, books, and they even sell those amazing bed sheets! The next time we go (which I hope is soon), we plan to take advantage of the spa services! Be sure to check the website for the specials they offer! Chatham itself, is a wonderful place to visit! A quaint town, with many shops to spend your days in! All in all, The Captain's House Inn is well worth the money! You will not be disappointed! Five stars all the way!

Yelp
We visited the Cape last summer and, to date, it has been one of my favorite weekends in New England. Captain's House Inn only added to the charm. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful, the room was beautiful and clean, and the location was perfect. Breakfast was also very yummy. Everything was simply bed and breakfast perfection.

Yelp
My husband and I went and stayed here. It was wonderful from start to finish! My mother and her fiancé had chosen the Inn for their elopement. The staff was so attentive! Jill the owner was amazing. She made recommendations and reservations for us in advance. The places she suggested were both amazing. The breakfast that is included was freshly prepared by a fantastic chef. I would highly recommend this and will definitely go back again.

Yelp
We stayed there last weekend. I needed a get away to de-stress. This was an hours drive from our house and our first INN experience. It was wonderful. The room was terrific and was larger than the picture showed. The grounds were wonderful (for April). I can only imagine how beautiful it will be in another month. Everything was wonderful. We fell in love with this Inn and with Chatham. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We loved it! They had every detail covered, from the free wifi in the rooms, to brownies at night, to printed out directions to various restaurants and sites in the area. There service was outstanding! We were going to miss breakfast and they called us to tell us they could bring it to our room.

Yelp
What a lovely place! The staff is wonderful and totally accomodating. For example, they provide logs for the wood burning fireplace and candles. We asked for more candles - 2 were provided - and they came back with 5 in lovely holders for a romantic night! Breakfast is fantastic! Tea in the afternoon is quaint. Near the beach and Chatham shopping. Our room not only featured a working fireplace but extra large king sized bed, comfy sheets and pillows, and a great bathroom. We went in December for the Chatham Stroll weekend and will definitely be back!
