Court Street Grocers Opens in Williamsburg

"After collaborating with James Caputo, I found they were able to produce a Caputo loaf that’s shockingly close to Leidenheimer bread from New Orleans, which finally allowed Court Street to serve a proper muffuletta." - Chris Crowley

Google
Caputo's did our wedding cake in 1974, and it was absolutely delicious. Guests raved about it long after. So, when we went looking for a genuine Italian pastry shop, I naturally chose Caputo's. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. The service was fine, the girls behind the counter were very sweet, but not much there was the Italian pastry I grew up with. The canoli cake my granddaughter wanted for her birthday didn't resemble any canoli cake I had ever seen. It was a tiny chocolate icing- covered bomb, and we later discovered it was mostly chocolate cake with a thin layer of canoli cream. There was no price listed, but it must have been considerable, because that a cherry pie and 1lb of cookies came to $82. In addition, the cherry pie was the worst I've ever had, consisting of few cherries and plenty of what seemed nothing more than canned pie filling. What a shame that succeeding generations let the high standards go by the wayside! If you don't know Italian pastry, you might find this place tolerable, but barely. So sad. .

Google
Everything is always fresh, and there's a great selection. Definitely get the sfogliatelle. On a side note you can't tip on credit card there. So if you're getting a big order bring some cash for the tip jar.

Google
I have lived next to caputos my whole life and have purchased baked goods from here more times than I could count. The staff is always friendly but the product quality has gone way way down, the bread is good but anything else seems to always fall short, the jelly cookies have no jelly and what is there has no flavor (if you tasted this blind folded you wouldn’t be able to guess they had jelly in a million years) the cookies lack flavor and the texture seems to be getting lighter and drier to the point that it feels they are trying to use air as a filler. The last couple years I have gotten cookie and cake that taste stale or like the display case if that makes sense… I went today and got home to try the cookies, they have no flavor and no jelly it was seriously disappointing to the point that I decided I cannot justify spending (wasting) my money here. They have proved time and time again that the quality is not going to improve and no matter how much nostalgia tricked me into purchasing more times then I should have, it just isn’t worth the money.

Google
I’m Canadian and I came here. They have onion rolls. Delicious onion rolls. They also have the softest fluffiest bread and pastries. Like cotton! Amazing little bakery. Don’t miss it.

Jasmine N.

Google
Staff is always amazing. You cannot go wrong with any of the pastries there. Even if you’re not a local they definitely make you feel welcomed like you are.

Google
Stopped in for a snack. This is a nice Italian pastry shop. Coffee, cookies, pastries. Accessible. Plenty of parking.

Yelp
This is our favorite Italian bakery by the beach and have been coming here for years. It is the perfect place to stop by for some fresh, delicious pastries to enjoy on the beach. We absolutely love their crispy lobster tails with the light and fresh French cream! The crunch, the smooth cream texture, and perfect sweetness are heavenly! Their black and white cookie is also delightful. It is so soft and cakey with fresh chocolate and vanilla buttercream frosting! Pair any of their pastries with a coffee/ latte from anywhere of your choosing, sit on a bench by the water and enjoy with the perfect view for a transcendent experience!

Yelp
This place has a nice selection of Italian desserts and offer espresso and cappuccino with a couple of tables inside. I definitely will be back and highly recommended. The service very friendly

Yelp
Was soooo happy to be back here again. Got some similar things but was sad there was no napoleon cake slices this time. There were black and white cookies this time which I know I'm going to devour. This is one of my favorite bakeries!! So happy I was able to come back here again. Delicious goodies made by sweethearts.

Yelp
Came here on a sugar craving and booyyy was I satisfied. The pastries are freshly made and if you have any questions regarding any of em, the girls up front will give you all the DETTZZZ. Great prices TOO. I love New Jersey :')

Yelp
This bakery has been in Long Branch for years. I remembered it being on Broadway not far from the Port O Call bar. I'm assuming a few generations have passed since and maybe that's why there aren't that many reviews. I guess you can call this an institution.due to longevity. I bought a quarter dozen of sfogliatelli and thought they could have had more ricotta in them. I'm sure this is not a complete review due to my limited tastings recently. But I can only go buy what I experienced. The staff was cleaning the counters.

Yelp
Italian bakery that doesn't just have a million butter cookies with sprinkles. Wide variety of items: from lobster tails to macaroon cookies to chocolate covered strawberries to napoleons to pastel de nata to croissants. Excellent quality! They also make really good iced coffee. Stopped in on Mother's Day around 1pm and they still had a lot of good choices (many other bakeries in the area were sold out of everything). Highly recommend!

Etienne G.

Yelp
Fantastic for morning breads and pastry treats , friendly staff that care ... not much else to say

Brenton G.

Yelp
Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice selection of pastries and reasonably priced. Will go back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
I like their breads and pastries. Not a fan of their small cookies, but the rest is great. Their prices are very reasonable.

Fran V.

Yelp
The best bakery in Long Branch Joe the best & so is Antonette employee!! love all the breads & pastries I go crazy when I go there the best!!!

Yelp
I was very excited to find Caputo's Pastry shop just a few miles down the road from me. So far everything thing I have had from there has been too notch. The pastry is fresh and rich as it should be while the Italian bread is crispy and well done. The team that works at the counter are very kind and quick. Caputo's is located in a shopping center with a ton of parking. The shopping center includes a Pizzeria, Bagel shop, pharmacy, diner, liquor store, Jersey Mikes and a Windmill. If in the area check them out.

Yelp
Very nice bakery and has lots and lots of delicious options. Service was great and the pastries were excellent. Would highly recommend.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Love having an old fashioned bake shop nearby. Their lobster tails filled with French or cannoli cream are amazing, the pastry has the perfect lightness and crunch, not chewy or tough like many I've tried. Danish are also good and they serve coffee. Grab a sweet treat and a cup of coffee and sit by the ocean... heaven!
google avatar

Nicholas G.

Yelp
I tried a whole bunch of different italian cookies from here and they were pretty good. The assortment is your normal italian bake shop fare. I don't even know the names to all of these but I don't think you can go wrong here. The lobster tails aren't overally sweet which I like and they have this nice flaky crunch that I love. Beautifully executed. I highly recommend stopping in if you need a gift for someone or a gift for yourself!

Yelp
My brother got a couple of cakes from here--one with strawberries atop and within and the other with a variety of fruit on top of it. Both of the cakes themselves, as well as the creme used were the same. I'm not a huge fan of Italian cakes and cookies, but I really enjoyed their cakes. The cakes were light and fluffy, and not too sweet. The creme was the same, just a tad bit more sweet. They reminded me of Korean bakery cakes, and I was really pleased!

Yelp
Very low key and sweet spot! I found a groupon voucher for this place and the place is very inexpensive, i paid $5 for 5 very delicious pastries! The coffee here is really great and definitely ask the staff for their recommendations! They are super friendly and helpfully. Only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars from me is because the maroons were on the stale side. But over all i really like this place and I'll definitely come back!

Sharon B.

Yelp
My family and I wanted to get "Cake by the Ocean". We had raspberry cake, chocolate mousse cake, carrot cake and a cannoli sandwich which we would gladly order again for such a low price. The staff was very helpful with our beach questions. It sure was hot out but we still were able to enjoy them!

Yelp
Happily surprised that Caputos was open in April 2020, during the Coronavirus pandemic! Had to wait in a short (3 people) line outside the store, but well worth it ; they had everything I like. Allowing 2 people in the store at a time, requiring masks made the experience safe & less stressful. They still take cash, another plus. Caputos!

Yelp
I feel sad to say that I was disappointed with what we had. Based on other Yelp reviews, I was expecting fantastic patries and artisanal espresso drinks. The espresso drinks were made from paper pucks of preground stuff. The frother and spring water were a nice touch but not enough to make up the difference towards even a Starbucks espresso (at least they use a real set-up). We ordered a box of pastries and cookies. The chocolate creme puff filling had the sandy texture akin to black bean paste and lacked flavor. The cookies were okay. I think I ordered the wrong things. Other folks were ordering iced coffees and buns like they knew what they were doing.

Yelp
Ok now that I live in Michigan I'm a food tourist when I'm back HOME in NJ. A food tour is usually in order. Caputo's is a must stop. The best hard rolls ever. Fantastic biscotti. Cream puffs. Basically everything. This is a gem. And excellent coffee. Service is great. And you see them baking in the back. A Long Branch classic. Caputo's.....5 hard rolls. I mean stars!
google avatar

steve p.

Yelp
I love Caputo's pastries in the morning. Their cannolis are good too. Cookies are overrated but some people just love them. Still a gem of a bakery for long branch
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Not an in depth review by any means but after sampling a single cannoli taken home and eaten and enjoyed very much we will be going back here for another visit soon. Very similar to and nearly as good as our favorite italian pastry shop on Staten Island called Alfonso's which is my yardstick for measuring a cannoli.

Double A.

Yelp
Coconut macaroons. Life changing. Soft, through and through. Great customer service. First timer. I was met with a great recommendation for a treat and hopefully I'll be back before our visit ends.

Yelp
The best Pasta Ciotti in the United States. I was sick this Christmas so I couldn't make the trip down. Tried Maria's in Saddle Brook. Good, very good, but not Caputo's . I have read some of these reviews. This shop is for the educated consumer. My advise to some of you is to learn about Italian pasty before you walk in. Never, ever had rude service. Been coming here since the old shop . The very best! To die for!!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing I started going here is a kid and ever since then I've been hooked. First let me start off by talking about their customer service which is amazing the girls at the front always make a great impression and are always super friendly. The bakery itself always looks clean glass windows are always sparkling fresh coffee is always brewing. The inside smells like a bakery should with delicious treats chocolate chip cookies and hints of cinnamon in the air. Now the product I've tried a lot and I love everything I honestly cannot say that I've tried one bad thing everything is so delicious. My favorite thing I have tried is there lemon cake on the outside just looks like a plain vanilla cake but in the inside is golden layer yellow cake with lemon meringue in the inside topped off with buttercream icing they can write sayings on it if you would like for special occasions or just because. Every pastry I've tried is always delicious and fresh! I can't say enough about this place! Good work caputo owners!

M H.

Yelp
Wow!! Some of the best cookies I've ever had! We went in around 5pm for a coffee and all the cookies were too tempting to ignore. I got a quarter pound box with a variety of cookies. The pignolis and chocolate macaroons were AMAZING! So delicious and fresh. I will never go to Long Branch again without stopping by Caputo's before heading home.

Yelp
If I could give this place negative stars I would! Awful service. Young kids who don't know how to speak nice to people and who do not understand food allergies or sensitivity. Lotsa competition out there. Owners should know It pays to be kind.

Yelp
We tried this bakery because I had recently purchased a $20 Groupon for $10. I was initially impressed with the relatively cheaper pricing than most other bakeries. We visited on Valentine's Day and expected to select some delicious pastries because of the substantially good things we had heard about it. Damn, we were significantly disappointed. First off, the teenage girl behind the counter was super friendly and attentive to the customers. We selected virtually one of each of the plethora of pastries in the various cases. We also purchased a pound of the marzipan. I've been eating marzipan for well over 30 years and consider this delicacy to be one of my favorites. I also chose a lintzer tart and my girlfriend added a cannoli. Secondly, the marzipan were all hard, almost stale-like. These little candies never tasted so badly any other time I had consumed them. Thirdly, almost each pastry we selected also tasted rather stale and, in fact, tasted like the refrigerated unit itself. You know that taste of something in your fridge at home that sits uncovered and ultimately absorbs the taste of everything else in your fridge? Well, this powerful taste was absolutely gross. The various mini cheese cakes, powder cream puffs, cherry tarts, etc. we're overwhelmed with this horrible taste. Unequivocally though, the lintzer tart and the cannoli, both in different refrigerated cases, were exceptionally delicious. We probably will not be returning to this bakery at anytime in the distant future, with a Groupon or not!

Simone S.

Yelp
I just ordered a birthday cake for my fiancé from here! Everything was made as discussed previously and tasted delicious. There were many cake and filling options it was hard to choose! The chocolate mousse filling was delicious and abundant! The buttercream frosting was lighter than most and not ridiculously sweet. We are looking forward to our next event so we can order a cake from here again! P.S. we also bought a French bread from here that was so fresh, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside

Yelp
I have consistently visited since I was a child living in the area, and even ignored their less-than-sanitary conditions. The shop girls (usually teenage girls who spend most of their time standing around and gossiping) will take your money with their bare hands, turn around, and then fill your cannolis with those same uncovered hands. That's super gross if I'm using cash. Never mind that their cannolis are pretty bomb if you can't get to Little Italy (which I couldn't when I lived in the area). I visited over the weekend and saw a fly happily trapped in the glass counter, making a merry tour around all of their desserts. Super super gross. The guy who was trying to put in a job application while flirting with the girls had tried to start flirting with me too, asking what I was getting, before his eyes landed on the fly and he became quiet. Maaaaaybe I could let that slide. But I got one of their lobster tails and it was filled with cheap whipped cream. Disgusting. Bye, Caputo. It's Ferrara in Little Italy for me now.

Yelp
This bakery AMAZING. I had a cannoli pie and added a glass of white sangria with it...WOW!!!! I was in Heaven!

Shawn A.

Yelp
Best Italian pasty shop around. You name it they do it well. Can't go wrong with anything you buy here. Joe the owner is very accommodating especially with sheet cakes. Did an amazing red velvet and cannoli cake for our daughter. Worth the drive from anywhere in Monmouth county.
google avatar

Ann M.

Yelp
Best Italian bakery in NJ. Delicious sfogiatella, cannoli, and struffoli. Everything here is delicious. I can not wait to get back home to stuff my face with things from here.
google avatar

Annie M.

Yelp
Really great lobster tails and black and white cookies. Will definitely be back for more!
google avatar

Yelp
This is probably one of the best bakeries in this area! I ordered a yellow birthday cake with a fresh fruit & custard layer with a butter cream frosting for a birthday celebration! It was so delicious and moist. When it came time to send folks home with some cake there were only a few takers but we were happy to enjoy the rest of it for ourselves
google avatar

Yelp
Many Moons ago when I was a young foot cop in Long Branch, I would on many occasions get asked "Where is the Italian Bakery on Broadway?" They're still family owned in Ursula Plaza (Ocean Blvd LB)
google avatar

Christopher K.

Yelp
I have been going to Caputo's bakery over 15 years now. I used to work at a ice cream store next to the bakery when I was in high school and basically it was my first Italian bake good experience. As I grow up I moved to NYC and tried so many different Italian pastries including Carlo's in Hoboken and many others in Brooklyn. I still think Caputo's bakery in Long Branch has best cannoli, napoleon, and walnut brownies in North East~!! Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Audra H.

Yelp
This place has been around forever, and you will not find a better Italian pastry anywhere else in New Jersey. Absolutely delicious! Try the cheesecake and the sfogiatella (cream-filled, scalloped pastry), you will not be sorry. Friendly service and great coffee as well. I took my boyfriend here just last month on a visit to my hometown from Baltimore, and now every time we go back to Jersey he wants to go to Caputos. I should mention that he usually doesn't have a sweet tooth :)
google avatar

Marc M.

Yelp
Best pastries around. I love the cannoli here!! A must-buy. If you're near got to stop by. Lobster claws are amazing too!!
google avatar

maria r.

Yelp
Very nice bakery & good coffee. Had the lobster tail and it was crispy flaky and the cream was nice a fresh. Definitely worth a visit!

Diana T.

Yelp
Went to Caputo's for Italian Easter Bread. It was prepackaged, so you couldn't see it. Being Italian, I remember it with 4-6 colored egg's, a sweet tasty bread. This was more like hot cross buns without the raisins. It had 1 over cooked boiled egg, that they didn't bother to even dye. Covered in sticky glazed icing with colored sprinkles. Very disappointing. I miss Baldanza's Bakery.
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
I was taveling to the beach in longbranch and decided to get a groupon to use while I was there. I am glad I did! The lobster tails we're crispy and light on the outside with an amazing cream filling on the inside. The almond cookies we're fresh and soft. The prices were resonable and everything was delicious. Amazing! Will return again.
google avatar

Lexi S.

Yelp
Had my wedding cake made here and it was amazing. I don't like cake and only got it for the cake cutting but I loved it and made sure we took it with us afterwards. I just told them what flavors I liked and they put it together and exceeded my expectations.

Deb K.

Yelp
Great bakery! Went here as a child when it was on a different street. Now it is tucked away in Ursula Plaza strip mall. Look for it. it's worth it! For years I have been frustrated with the quality of bakeries in my area of central NJ. Then I re-discovered Caputos. You can taste the difference in quality ingredients. The mini pastries are delicious.(Only $1.00!) Love the strawberry cream tart the best, it's like a little shortcake. Now I am trying different cookies. Even the simple sugar cookie with jelly in the middle is great. Not like those other places with the cookie trays sealed in plastic that look like they were made 10 yrs ago. I notice a lot of people order the breads, they look very good too.
google avatar

Ed G.

Yelp
My new favorite bakery. With so much variety and unique items there's something for everybody. Simply wonderful and can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Rich P.

Yelp
I love this place...traditional Italian Pastry Shop which brings back some great childhood memories....BUT, when I walk in 15 minutes prior to closing, please don't tell me I can't purchase cannoli because you've already cleaned the pastry bag that contains the filling...such a bummer!

Kelly S.

Yelp
I had the fruit topped cheesecake which was amazing. The selection of cakes was great. The staff was helpful. They are open late and the food is fresh. The price was reasonable.

Hortensia D.

Yelp
Love this bakery! The cakes are always fresh and taste great! If prob my favorite bakery!
