"Try Local Cuisine at Caramba Restaurant From the first time I set foot on the island of Ambergris Caye, Caramba became my favorite restaurant in San Pedro. And that’s not changed, even ten years later. Rene Reyes, Sr. and his wife Patty have done a remarkable job with the restaurant. Every season brings something new and exciting – whether it be décor changes, menu enhancements or even new cocktail creations. The Reyes’ sons Jonathan and Renesito are now involved in day-to-day operations, keeping Caramba one of the long-standing family-owned and operated businesses on the island. Personal recommendations include Conch Fritters (seasonal), Sopa de Lima, Fish Tacos, Pibil Pork Sub and the Coconut Shrimp. Any of the seafood dishes are spectacular – go for the Maya or Tour Guide cooking options. Be sure to try one of bartender Charlie’s cocktails, like the Strawberry Beerita, King Margarita, or a special mojito. Not a drinker? Caramba has some of the best fruit smoothies on the island. Closed Wednesdays. Check Foursquare for current specials."

Caramba absolutely lives up to the hype - incredibly delicious seafood. We were lucky enough to come by during the start of Belize’s lobster season and ended up having some the best lobster we’d ever tasted! The red snapper was excellent as well. We will 100% be coming back here next time we’re in San Pedro!

We had the stuffed chillies for starters, the fish curry and garlic butter fish for mains. Service was very fast, it is not a place to linger, you go in, order your food, it arrives in minutes and as soon as you've finished your meal, the bill arrives. It is a popular place with a queue of people waiting for tables at some point. Food was nice, too much butter for my taste, the fish was literally swimming in it but nice flavour. Not cheap prices but personally I found it a little too over rated. Again, food was nice but not up to the hype. Superb service though.

The food and the service were excellent! I came for the fresh seafood. I have to admit, I got a sticker shock off the price, but that's what I wanted. $40 for one whole fish seemed a bit higher than I was expecting. If I came back, I think I would try to order off the menu next time. The prices seemed a bit lower.

I recently visited Caramba for dinner and had a wonderful experience overall. We called ahead to make a reservation, but when we arrived, it seemed like there were available tables, so we were seated without delay. The highlight of the meal was definitely the fresh catch selection. The menu offered a fantastic variety of seafood, including fish, shrimp, mussels, calamari, squid, and more. The staff, especially "Downtown Charlie Brown," was fantastic—he helped us select our fish and explained the preparation options. I chose the grilled red snapper and blackened version, and it was absolutely delicious! It came with two sides, and I decided to add an extra side. I went with rice and beans, salad, and potato salad—all of which were flavorful and satisfying. Our waiter was attentive, though I felt a bit rushed at times. However, Jousha, who also assisted us, was especially great and provided excellent service. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Caramba and would definitely recommend it for seafood lovers looking for fresh, well-prepared dishes in a lively atmosphere.

This was anything but delicious. I don't know what people race about at this restaurant. Picking out my own seafood is a gimmick if I get it back and there is no seasoning. Salt was all that i tasted in our roasted garlic butter. Salt is not a seasoning it's a flavor enhancer. I tasted no garlic. This was the most expensive and the worst dinner I've had so far.

The seafood was fresh! Shrimps were delicious but for $5 usd per shrimp is pricey! Stone crabs claws were good! Fish is always a great choice in Belize! I honestly didn’t think the food was to die for! It’s just good but expensive!

Whoever is frying that snapper in the back is a true culinary expert. That fish tasted like my grandma was back there cooking and smelled like Sunday after church. Baby, y'all get 5 stars from me!

If you are a seafood lover and are in Ambergris Caye, you will hear about Caramba. They specialize in all things from the sea first, with also other meats. They have a catch of the day station, just outside and near the entrance of the restaurant. Here fish, scallops, crab, large prawns or langoustines, to name a few, sit half buried in ice. You choose what you desire, the associate tags a price on each item, puts it on a plate and you take it to your table. There, you tell the server how you would like it prepared. There are many options to cater to almost every taste. This all sounds lovely, because the seafood is fresh, but it is way overpriced. The langoustines are all small and about $25 US each (yes each). The popular red snapper varies in price depending on the size. Keep in mind, there is no weighing here. The outside associate just sticks a price on every item just by a glance. My small whole red snapper was $40 US. I had one langoustine grilled with spices and the red snapper deep fried. Both were excellently prepared to perfection. Succulent, moist and full of flavor. For the two included sides I chose rice and beans (the national dish) and potato salad. The rice and beans were dry and tasted old. The potato salad was creamy and tasty. Garlic bread with thousand island dressing on the side is available, just too small slices but you have to ask for it. On my last night here, I came back. Had the crab cakes to start that lacked flavor and taste. More filler than crab (3 pieces for $18 US). When asked how it was, I mentioned it to the server and he did not care. The fries were at ambient temperature, been sitting for a while. I also had 3 langoustines grilled as before (for $75 US) even though they were not of equal size. The accompanying coleslaw was superb. Yes, this is a tourist trap and still very popular. Hence the high prices. If you order the right stuff, you can have a memorable evening, even though it can put a few holes in your wallet.
