25 Adult Spring Break Destinations for 2025

"This spring, budget-conscious travelers need not shy away from the Caribbean islands. St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands has hotel rates of $386 on average per night according to data from Hotels.com and flights as low as $215 from Spirit. Plus, no passport is required for US citizens. Stay on St. Thomas to enjoy some of the best beaches in the Caribbean and world-class snorkeling, or hop around to the other US Virgin Islands, St. John and St. Croix. Where to stay: After a remodel and reopening in 2019, the Ritz-Carlton’s St. Thomas property still focuses on understated elegance. Its 180 rooms and suites have been designed in neutral colors and delicate fabrics, leaving the focus on the expansive white, sandy beaches just outside the window. Activity highlights include leisurely day or night cruise on the resort’s private, 53-foot catamaran, the Lady Lyndsey II, dining with views of the crystal blue waters, a spa session at the new seaside spa cabana, or learning how to make art out of shells and sand personalized custom souvenirs."

We had high expectations, expecting a real resort experience. However, carambola offered resort prices coupled with the best western experience. Our room had many issues so they moved us to a new room. Needless to say the second wrong also had issues. To their credit, they gave us a $200 food credit. The pool was great and we enjoyed it very much. There was a short walk to the beach but it had very limited chairs and umbrellas. The dining experience was ok, it was understaffed but the food was good. All-in-all, I’d say if you get an amazing deal and lower your expectations to a 2.5 rating, this would be a great place to stay at.

In spite of the bad reviews we read here we still decided to book this hotel, and they were correct. The hotel sits on a very nice beach with easy access to it, just a short walk from rooms and pool. It has so much potential to be a very entertaining hotel but after talking to one of the servers I was told that due to poor managing it's why it's a pretty much boring hotel, great for a quiet vacation to the beach if you're into that. There is so much space to be used but only a few areas are used, it has a bar and a restaurant, there is no spa at the moment and the gym is good enough to get a fairly decent workout. The service is bad as rated but mainly because of lack of staff, not enough servers nor motivation to serve. As I mentioned before, the hotel has plenty of space for fun activities like Karaoke, Bingo or any thing else to keep the guests entertained throughout their stay, perhaps attracting guests from other hotels, but nothing like that. They have a game area with a pool table, chess, checkers and some books, that was fun at the end of our day. The food is pricey like anywhere else on the island, but low enough if they at least had good music or something playing on the Tv's at the bar, or some sort of entertainment to go along with it, but overall the food was good. We certainly wouldn't have guessed that it was a Marriott. We explored the other more expensive hotels, you can tell why they were a bit more expensive. Don't expect much if coming to this one, just that you can have easy access to the beach, careful when entering the water because of all the rocks. I'd strongly recommend some sort of beach/water shoes. The breakfast was a bit pricey, perhaps not worth the 32$ even though it was good, at least good enough for me. We are Platinum Elite so we had breakfast included, as well as 4 water bottles daily. The best thing of our stay I'd say was the room, very comfortable, strong AC, definitely a relief to the hot and humid weather around. You will most likely need to rent a car down there to move around, GET A JEEP, or truck, the roads are bad with tons of potholes, and they drive on left side.

The location and remoteness of this resort was great. The water and beach area was relaxing and beautiful. The pool was always nice and clean. Our beachfront room was the perfect location. The room furniture needed some updating. Our ceiling lights would just unexpectedly come on in the middle of the night. Breakfast was $32 a person…little too expensive for the food options for a small buffet. It’s sad to look at all of the other resort reviews and see the same common denominator…poor staff and service. Many staff members were unfriendly and seemed to get irritated with us. Aliyah, who waited on us at the poolside restaurant was extremely hateful. She got mad when I added a food item to our order. Then, when the food came out and we asked for ranch dressing she proceeded to tell me that I should have asked for that when I ordered, and she NEVER brought it to me! We spent a lot of money to stay here, and the service should match that of a nice resort. It costs zero dollars to be kind. In fact, it cost Aliyah a good tip. Marriott, you can do better here with the expectations of your staff….not acceptable.

We stayed at the Carambola Resort for the first two nights of our 5-night trip to St. Croix (we split the rest of the time at The Buccaneer), and we absolutely loved our time there! The resort is stunning—lush, peaceful, and it just felt so cozy and welcoming. We felt right at home almost immediately. One of the highlights of our stay was hiking to the Annaly Tide Pools. We spent 3–4 hours on both the hike i and out and relaxing at the pools and was totally worth the effort. The scenery along the way was gorgeous, and the pools themselves were such a cool payoff at the end. Our room was clean, super comfortable, and really spacious. I’d read somewhere that some rooms felt a little run down, but that wasn’t our experience at all—and I usually have moderately high expectations when it comes to lodging. Everything felt well-kept and relaxing. If Carambola had been more centrally located, we probably would’ve just stayed there the entire trip. Honestly, we kind of wish we had. It hit a perfect balance between quality and price. The only thing to note is that we only saw two dining options open on-site, and while we did eat at both, we ended up going to the Cane Bay area for dinner as well. All in all, this is a great resort—beautiful, quiet, and a fantastic value. Even if it’s just for a couple of nights, it’s 100% worth including in your St. Croix plans.

Resort staff were sweet and had great attitudes. They didn’t have near enough staff though. It’s almost like they run on low staff year round. The resort itself is a great vibe but the public bathrooms are the only thing bringing it down. So few and so old. There’s also no place to get fancy coffee so beware you starbies. Rooms were spacious, the fridge (without freezer) was super helpful. There was MOLD in the closet. No fan in bathroom. Least the furniture and bed was comfy. Once again not near enough staff to handle rooms. Area is perfect. The beach is close and beautiful. Pool is 24/7 and is big enough. All of the cabanas and umbrellas are free to use. Just got to get there early. There is a water problem. Waters are 3$ and if you don’t want to pay then you have to drink the tap. You’ll likely get sick. There’s also not much tap water anywhere anyway. Buy your own water from the market and bring it. The resort looks big but it’s still less than a 10 min walk from one side to the other. It’s a nice location but many outdated features and the staff is never around.

This Marriott hotel has consistently abysmal service, and the facility is in *desperate* need of maintenance. I do NOT recommend staying at this so-called resort. We booked an oceanfront Jr Suite for family of 3, and assigned to a room in Building 1. Arrived to an unclean toilet, shower where dirty water did not drain properly, no phones in the rooms, no one answering the cell phone numbers to the front desk we were given, towels only for 2 people, and no bedding provided for the sofabed for our child. After multiple trips to the front desk to resolve the issues, we finally requested a different room. We were told another is available, and the staff would need to “inspect” it (which we later learned means clean it since the hotel is very short on housekeeping staff). We were re-assigned a room in a different building, which was clean and mostly comfortable. When I requested a new room, there were 2 other families also requesting new rooms. (One of the other families was also originally assigned a room in Building 1.)||Housekeeping allegedly provides daily making of the beds (no new sheets, which was fine), and replacing towels. Our dirty towels were taken, and we were left with no towels, so we had to go back to the front desk, which said they were out of towels, so we requested pool towels that had body odor but did the job.|During our 3 night stay, we learned that the only nice restaurant on the property is closed for dinner on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The swimming pool deck has 3 cabanas (available on a first-come, first served basis) and dirty green water. Beach towels are available at the front desk upon request. The private beach area is secluded and lovely. Beach water is calm and clear and perfect. We received sub-par service at the casual restaurant on the property. Breakfast buffet offered good options.||This hotel is disappointing for a Marriott property. Chipping paint, broken gutters, broken flooring on pool deck, multiple broken outdoor showers (to remove beach sand). The bed was comfortable, and the air condition worked well. The in-room TVs turned on, but did not show any channels. After having a disappointing experience, Precious at the front desk promised us a refund of one night, which, after calling the hotel multiple times and getting a run-around, we never received one month later.||Given the consistently terrible service and the run-down nature of the property, I do not recommend this hotel.

So first I will start off with staff and the food was great. Everybody was kind and Friendly. Breakfast was definitely overpriced for one person with $32, the kids did eat free but my grandkids ate like birds. Second, housekeeping was another issue. The first day we arrived there was an orange ring in the toilet and stains in the sink. There was also bathroom cabinets that were broken and falling off the hinges. In the closet was a safe that was of no use because it was locked. There was also no “do not disturb” sign, so the second day we were napping and housekeeping entered the room and emptied two garbage cans loudly and slammed the door when she was leaving. She definitely knew we were in the room sleeping as our grandson was also asleep on the couch bed. So then we got a “do not disturb” sign and put it on the door the next day and while we were away, someone entered the room and laid a bag of towels on the floor. Why Would you enter a room that has a “do not disturb” sign on the door? we could have been sleeping, showering, changing clothes, or something else? And on the days we did not have the sign on the door, housekeeping did not change the sheets or empty the trash so we have had the same sheets on the bed our whole stay. Also, there was no mattress pad on the mattress. Nothing to protect from mites or bedbugs and the fitted sheet would not stay on the mattress as it was so worn and the elastic was stretched out that every morning my husband and I woke up with the fitted sheet in the middle of the bed. And now the fans with lights… Our last night was miserable as the fan lights kept coming on all hours of the night (both fan lights) and I had zero sleep because I kept having to turn them off. So if I could change anything, it would be for housekeeping to be re-trained on guest privacy and cleaning and to change out the fans/lights or sensors. Other than that, staff was very kind and food was good. We definitely want to come back to this resort as we loved the view and staff, but we will pay attention to future reviews to see if things have improved. Privacy, sleep and cleanliness is a must when you are on vacation.

I took my two daughters to vacation here. When I walked into the reception area, I greeted the lady at the front desk. She did not even look at me and did not speak to me. Finally, she said last name? She gave me the keys to the room and told me to go find it myself because the man who was supposed to show it to me was too busy. My kids and I rolled our suitcases wandering around trying to find our room rolling over Broken Sidewalks. we walk inside and the room is literally disgusting. The pictures on the website make everything look pristine and beautiful. This is not the case in real life. There was a lot of dirt in our shower from the previous people, the floor was cracked. There were bugs and both of our beds. Spiders all over the floor Brown dripping stains from the walls. Baseboards were extremely dirty. We had no towels. I had to walk back to the front desk and ask for towels, she gave me a garbage bag full of towels. Then I realize there are no beach towels, so I walked back to the front desk and got some beach towels. Nothing is in walking distance. There’s only two restaurants one of which was not that great and the other one you needed reservations. They were booked up for the night. My kids did not feel safe so we left the next day. This resort felt like it was spring break for middle-age men Getting drunk in the pool. It was not a great experience for us.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Pictures on line do not match reality. Run down, poor service. Food actually not bad. No where near a Marriott experience. Worst resort experience I have had. Our lights in our bedroom would turn off and on by themselves. TV does not receive any stations. They offered to move us. Then changed their mind. Awful.

Yelp
Highlights: Beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea Easy access to beach Large rooms and bathrooms 2 restaurants Free parking Quiet/calm atmosphere Cons: * Mid customer service * Minimum amenities * Intermittent power outages * Limited WiFi * 30 minutes from activities * Issues with water temp * guest was bite by spider in room, no assistance provided

Yelp
The setting is beautiful and remote, had some hiccups with customer service and quality. I tend to expect more from Marriott so I might be too hard on resort. Quality meaning hot water in the shower, maintenance definitely needed, peeling and cracked paint, mold behind toilet, etc.. I think the thing I thought odd, no mattress pad and sleept awful the 4 nights I was there. I keep thinking it is an island, remote, etc. but for 300-400 a night there are other options.

Yelp
If you're looking for a 5 star high service resort, this is not it. If you want a decent place to stay that's off the grid in a great location that's a good base for exploring, this is it.

Susie F.

Yelp
Broken, no one cares about this hotel or its guest. They need more money and much more staff. The staff that is working seems to hate their jobs. After looking forward to this vacation for months.. I should have dug deeper. Having been long time high end resort employees in the past, we asked the GM to call and we would be happy to give him our first hand experience. He never called. The beach is nice. The pool is nice. There is trash everywhere around the property. The only breakfast served is a $36 pp poor buffet. The bartenders would argue with guest. The soap and shampoo in the room were back stock from 30 years ago. We won't be back and could not recommend this properly.

Yelp
Everything was great except the ladies in the bar by the pool . We had three ladies be very rude !!!! If the owner of this place only knew ! This is what makes people not want to come back here . I was so nice and bubbly and they dhe had braids with red or orange hair . I was only treated right by 3 emoloyes in my 7 day stay !!! Wtf

Yelp
St. Croix is to St. Thomas as Curacao is to Aruba and Maui is to Oahu. It is less developed than St. Thomas, and more natural. There is much to like about St. Croix, an island of about 50,000 people, and the Carambola is located in a beautiful and secluded spot next to the rain forest. We've stayed here a few times before and were very happy to see the property reopened after two devastating category 5 hurricanes in 2017. We can imagine the challenges in restoring operations after two Category 5 hurricanes. There were some positives during our stay: + Breakfast was fast, efficient, and tasty, with a very polite, customer centric person manning the omelet station. There were limited choices for breakfast, but if you liked eggs, bacon, etc. you were good to go. + Our suite was spacious, and included a kitchen and deck (lanai). We were upgraded to a great waterfront location (I'm a Lifetime Titanium Elite Member and appreciated the upgrade). + Scuba diving was very convenient, Sweet Bottom is an excellent choice for the Carambola, I had two shore dives (directly from the Carambola Beach) down to 80 feet, and we were able to see some great aquatic life including a couple of large reef sharks. + The West side beach is in good shape, there were plenty of chairs for the current guest load. We did encounter a few major issues, which we think need to be addressed quickly. - Shade is needed for the beach, either strong umbrellas or permanent tiki style structures. Our beach time was limited due to a lack of shade. - The restaurant bar was a disaster. We ate there a couple of times, then gave up and drove to the Landing at Cane Bay every night. We purchased some grocery items and made our own lunches. One night there was only one person working at this, the only restaurant at the Carambola. The next night there were 2 people working there. Since there are so few dining options near here (just the Landing Beach Bar, and Ama's which offers few time slots), it's critical that the Carambola restaurant gets fully operational quickly. - The lanai used to be screened in, but the screens were damaged in the hurricane. This wasn't an issue during the day, but in the evening, they were buggy. We didn't have the negative experience that some of the other recent Yelpers had, though this is our third visit here, and we did have a car which provides more flexibility. We can provide the Carambola a mediocre three star review. We hope they will get their act together soon, as it is located in such a beautiful spot, and the Scuba diving is excellent.

Yelp
I am extremely disappointed that I must write this email about the substandard service and experience at Carambola Beach Resort in St. Croix. From the moment we checked in there were issues with the hotel and the performance of the staff. 1. Upon arrival to our unit, there was a large plastic bag of trash left near our front door. There were many stray cats in the vicinity of the trash. If you are allergic to cats, do not stay at this hotel. 2. Prior to check in, I put in my reservation that there would be 2 adults and 1 child. The pullout bed was not made nor were there sheets for the pullout bed. There were only two sets of towels provided. Eventually had to make the bed ourselves. 3. At dinner, there were about a dozen stay cats in the dining area and underneath our dinner table despite a few requests to our wait staff to remove the cats. 4. Our room was dirty. There were cobb webs around the windows and the room was very dusty. 5. At check in, we were told that our room would be serviced every other day. Housekeeping came once the entire week during our stay despite numerous asks for the room to be cleaned. 6. We noticed that two maintenance workers were trying to capture a 6 to 7 foot Red Boa Constrictor snake just outside our front door. This experience was horrible for me and my family. The hotel management and lack of follow-through is extremely disappointing. I will not be staying at this property ever again.

Yelp
This place is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. DO NOT STAY HERE! We are Titanium Elite Marriott Bonvoy Members with over 10 years of membership and this is the worst Marriott place ever. The room given to us was absolute filth. Dead bugs, flooding in the closet with mold on the floors, stains in walls windows and blinds, dirty outdated appliances, torn disgusting sofa bed couch, and the list goes on. We payed for beachfront room but was given a garden view room. We kept asking Front Desk to change rooms since it was unacceptable and was told we can't because they are "short staffed". We tried to look for other places on the island but everything was booked. The grounds itself was also gross and disgusting. The bathroom downstairs of the main kitchen reaks of sewer smell and we saw cockroaches and mice coming out of the public bathrooms at night. All the floors need to be cleaned. Roofs, gutters, tiles all visibly broken and unmaintained. Plenty of wild cats and mongooses inside the property (not terrible although strange for a resort). All the staff minus 2 were rude, unhelpful, and dismissive. We asked for multiple items that never arrived although assured it will (ice bucket, clean towels, cups, ice, conditioner, landline phone, etc.) Food was decent but servers and bartenders were mean, wouldn't even look at us when we politely ask for something. Female bartender rolls her eyes when other guests politely order drinks at the bar. Food and drinks were overpriced at the only bar and restaurant they have. Pool was not clean with plenty of leaves, dirt and sand. The spa tub wasn't working, the button to start bubbles were removed and the heating is not working. I've filed a formal complaint through Marriott. This is unacceptable.

Yelp
The resort is just starting on a very long overdue renovation, that appears may take quite a long time. The resort, it's rooms, etc and have been obviously neglected for quite a while, which is why I've given it 2 stars. I would definitely NOT stay here until all renovations are completed, and hopefully the renovations cover everything and not just splash some paint up and put in some new furniture. The furniture is battered and sofa stained and smelly. The exterior is rotting away in places, so hopefully all that is repaired properly too. The resort consists of a number of buildings that contain maybe 5 of 6 rooms each. Housekeeping did OK, although our floors were sandy and never really cleaned. We asked for hangars and a ironing board (didn't have either) for 3 days before giving up on it. The restaurant/bar was OK, but overpriced, so we went out for most lunches and dinners. There are some beach bar places a few miles away (The landing, off the wall, etc) that were good to get out to. There was no entertainment in the evenings. We purchased a bottle of rum and some fruit juices at a local supermarket to make a few of our own while at the pool etc. The resort is on a pretty spot with great views, but isolated. Highly recommend a rental car if you plan on leaving the resort at all. We rented a 4 wheel drive jeep. There are many serious potholes and several of the roads would be impassable in a sedan. The nicest parts are the views and most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Faded Rose of 80's trying to recover after 2017 and pandemic but failing miserably. Gorgeous setting but buildings are shabby and staff needs to double. The grounds need some love and the AC units are rusted. Sorry this place is busted especially for the money.

Lisa T.

Yelp
Horrible! Unsafe! Poorly managed and not really a Marriott property. They leased their name. Will never go again!

Kim S.

Yelp
What a dump! if you're looking for clean sanitary accommodations, this is not the place to stay! The employees are what they call on "Caribbean time"......, so nothing gets accomplished. The sheets & towels are terribly stained ! The windows are not washed...(our window did not close so we had to use a belt to hold it. Shut) & air conditioner was broken.! The food is abhorrent and there are dirty cats running around and eating food people drop -as well as small critters that run by. Two cats next to our table were vomiting. They do not look well-nourished-but do look as though they need veterinary help? If you're even considering going there to stay, it will be money thrown away!!!!
google avatar

Denise A.

Yelp
No running water in the morning. Dark dingy lighting in the rooms. Ants in the bed, dirty gritty floors, slippery tiled floor in the shower. Feral cats roaming the dining areas. If you want only coffee and a bagel for breakfast you still have to pay the $32 buffet charge.

Yelp
My family and I traveled to St. Croix for my nephew's wedding. As I stayed at the Carambola resort in 2014 and had an exceptional experience, I decided that we would stay at this hotel again. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most of the features and amenities at the resort were not open and available for guests including the spa and the restaurants. There was food available in a grab and go type of capacity. This experience was definitely far different than what I experienced when I first visited in 2014. The grounds at this resort are still absolutely beautiful! The ambience is unmatched in many ways to some of the other hotels/resorts on the island. Although the buildings and rooms are in great need of renovation, this resort is still a very relaxing and peaceful place to truly unwind. The staff at the reception desk was very professional and welcoming. They informed me of what was available and times as well as provided me with pamphlets of similar information. This was very helpful and useful. Unfortunately, I encountered several issues with my room. Examples: non-working phone in room, not having towels and washcloths in my room upon checking in, issues with broken or not working fixtures and lights in the room, grainy feeling in the bed, missing screen on balcony allowing for mosquitoes, bugs, and insects (including jackspanas from nearby nests) to enter room, no Wi-Fi connection, discrepancies with the room view that I paid for etc. etc. etc. The hot tub was also broken during my entire stay. I was not at all a happy camper and for the first 1.5 days, my issues did not get the full attention that I expected and that it deserved in order to achieve a quick resolution. I was very frustrated and angered and was at the point of just canceling the remaining of my stay there and getting a full refund. That is how irritated I was about the situation. What turned it around and allowed me to give this resort a second chance was the hotel manager, Billy. When Billy finally got in touch with me to discuss all of these issues, he appeared genuinely concerned and willing to work with me to rectify the situation as quickly as feasible. As Billy showed genuine concern and interest in improving my stay experience, I stayed for the remainder of my booked time. While the remainder of my stay was not perfect and did have its own set of issues, Billy was diligent in keeping me informed and checking in with me. Billy has exceptional customer service skills that should be recognized. If it were not for Billy's customer service skills and making me feel like a valued customer, my rating for this resort would have been a one. Because of Billy, I have upgraded my rating to a three. Billy has enabled me to not disqualify but include Carambola as a potential option for a future stay on St. Croix. With that in mind, I hope to return at a future time when I could enjoy this resort to its full capacity in the full condition that I have gotten used to from my previous visit.

Yelp
I stayed at the Renaissance in St Croix from Oct. 13-19, room 122.  I have stayed at several Marriott's throughout the Caribbean and the properties have been wonderful (Cayman's, Curacao, Aruba). This property however has been severely neglected and was a real disappointment. I knew I was in trouble when my wife and I first arrived.  The gutters had grass growing in them. The grounds were overgrown and not maintained. The pathways were not lighted.  When we walked into the lobby there was water leaking from the ceiling and a towel was on the floor catching the water. Not to mention the cooler that held water and snacks for sale. The cooler had rust in it and an employee's drink from McDonald's directly below the water in the same cooler.  There were no snacks in it all week.  The other thing I noticed is that the property was a ghost town. In my mind that means no one wants to stay here. On to the room. The first room we got we had to be shown the "trick" to open the door by the maid. As we entered, I noticed the room smelled very musty and damp. I decided that I did not want to deal with any "tricks" trying to enter my room and asked for another one. Shanequa at the front desk was great and tried her best to accommodate us. She told us we had two options. The honeymoon suite with no cable or WiFi or a similar room to what we had with only cable to only one of the two TVs that were in the room.  In my head I was trying to understand why there is a cable issue. This is 2024. Cable and internet should not be an issue especially at a Marriott property. We chose the room with cable to one tv. Again, this room also smelled very musty and damp. The bedding smelled sour. I am willing to bet the coils in the a/c unit have not been cleaned nor the air filter changed in quite some time. I stood up on the bed and saw about ¼ inch of dust on top of the unit. There were no tissues in the tissue holder in the bathroom, the toilet bowl was stained yellow, no cups in the cabinets, missing silverware, no phones, no alarm clock, and only one coffee cup with the coffee machine.  There was an ironing board, but the iron was missing. The ceiling fan/ light over the bed did not work as well. The cable on the one working tv was chopping and reminded me of a tv I had has a kid.  On that tv you had to adjust the rabbit ears to make the picture on it come in clear. This tv did not have any rabbit ears so we were stuck with a choppy picture all week.   The dry wall around some of the outlets was torn as well. There was green algae growing on the inside window sill. At this point we started looking for other properties to stay at because this place was miserable. We even tried to change our flights to come back sooner but there were, no seats available, that's how bad we wanted out of here. There were no vacancies at other properties, so we were stuck..here..in the place time forgot and apparently Marriott did too.  After getting settled in we went to the bar to eat dinner, because that's the only place available to eat on the property and has been for a while according to staff. They were out of several items, so the menu was limited.  As our stay continued, we noticed the bar was the only restaurant open even though the website says there are two. This is concerning since the property is quite far from any restaurants. We rented a car at the airport, so we had other food options. We spoke to several guests who did not have a rental car and ate at the bars three 2-3 times a day for almost a week which is a shame. The spa is out of order as well as the pool.  I was not told about the spa and received an email a few days before we left on our vacation that the pool was having renovations done. The front desk advised us that the pool has been out of service for months. The whole time were there we did not see one person working on it. We wouldn't have gotten into it anyway. The whole pool area looked nasty. Onto the beach. The beach is awesome and nice. However, there was trash overflowing from several cans at the access points. The same trash was there the whole time we were here.  The cans were never emptied. This stale garbage attracted a variety of bugs, that kept you company while trying to relax on the beach. Again, for five days the same overflowing trash stayed in the same place and is probably still there. The wash station for your feet had weeds growing out of it and one of the drainage slats was broken causing a safety hazard.  As our stayed continued we noticed old light builds in the entrance area to our room. By the dust that as accumulated on them they have been there for quite some time.  Not to mention the sandbags at the bottom of the stairs leading to our room. They are not keeping the water from pooling in the hallway leading to our door. This is a potential slip and fall accident waiting to happen, not to mention possibly getting electrocuted from the open case of wires connected in the hallway. Do not stay here.

Yelp
This review is for the Saman restaurant at this resort. We rolled the dice and bucked the reviews and decided to give the benefit of a doubt to this restaurant. Unfortunately the reviews are spot on, we made reservations 3 days in advance and when we showed up we needed to wait for 20 minutes for the table to be ready 20 minutes later we were seated and the waiter was explaining the menu options, well the "November" specials were not available...really, it's February 14th but we have a few specials. It took at least an hour to serve 4 meals, three meals were the wahoo with risotto and broccoli The forth meal was prime rib. What a total fail for the price, the "prime" rib was extremely tough. All three wahoo dishes were cold and needed to be sent back to be warmed up. The substitute mashed potatoes on the one wahoo dish were cold, like never warm cold. If you are a guest eat at the bar across from the main restaurant or eat anywhere else on the North Shore. We ordered drinks at the bar, most of the wine and beer selections were out of stock. The management of this resort must be clueless or doesn't care that every website that has negative reviews on this restaurant across the board. As a local this was the last dollar this resort will get from us.

Yelp
Advertises WiFi. But only in lobby. Cannot get in rooms. Property is large, but tired looking. Out a ways, nothing around. Need to take Taxis to go anywhere. Unless you rented a car. Front Desk employees were not friendly. Nor did they answer the phone. Pool is not heated. They only offer breakfast buffet. And it's $36.00 Per person. Seems a bit pricy. We mostly ate In the bar. The beach was nice and the rooms are nice. Saw a few roaches in our room. Very disappointed for being a Marriott property. Would not stay here again.

Yelp
Carambola Beach Resort is a beautiful location with a gorgeous beach and a large pool. I felt like the staff were very nice but like there must not be enough of them. The location worked fine for the group of us but definitely had issues. Pros: We had a gorgeous view of the beach from our porch. We requested and got a room with a small kitchenette. While the resort is relatively far from both towns, we did fine with a shared rental car. Cons: - We arrived after check in time but had to wait an hour to get into our room. Others in our group had to wait 4 hours. - Our toilet handle was falling out and had to be pushed in to flush. - One sink's drain plug was not attached so you had to go under the sink to push it open it. - The floor was very gritty when we got there and there were no brooms. - We were told that cleaning would be every other day and available more often when requested. No one EVER came to clean even when we went to the front desk to ask for toilet paper and to request cleaning. - While the pool was nice and we saw it cleaned, it did have algae type stuff growing on the bottom and there were loose pavers around it. - The hot tub did have air jets but was not heated at all. - There was no WiFi in the rooms the entire time we were there and there was sometimes WiFi in and near the main office. (We were told that they normally had great WiFi and were waiting for a part, but other guests told us that the part had arrived the previous week, and had broken after one hour.)

Yelp
More to come later, but I'm staying here right now, and our room hasn't been cleaned since Monday (it's Wednesday at 8pm), even after we requested it and reminded them we needed it cleaned today. When they didn't clean during the day today, we requested a cleaning with fresh linens while we left for three hours for dinner. We came back to an uncleaned room. Luckily we had taken the trash out ourselves. They already tell you at checkin that they will only clean every other day, which is not OK at a supposed Marriott-branded property, but they didn't even come today. They did a crappy job the first time, just pulling the sheets up on the bed, not making it, and just giving us a few clean towels. They also didn't sweep...and this is a place that gets sandy no matter how careful you are. We ran out of toilet paper today because they didn't leave an extra roll when they "cleaned" before. And there is no answer when you call the main number or front desk number.

Yelp
Meh. It appeared pretty upon checking in. BUT - we stayed there 5 days. They never cleaned our room a single time. One night we went to dinner and ordered pizza. You could tell it had been frozen. It was gross. This place was not spectacular. We should have checked reviews before booking. I wouldn't go back again, or recommend it to anyone else. You can do better.

Yelp
Ok if you just want to chill. Small beach but rocky in places. Out of food twice. Rooms were decent but toilet was ringed with stain. There five nights; no housekeeping. Cable TV showed about 15-20 channels but we only got 7-8. None of the networks ABC cbs fox or nbc. No espn or espn2 though they were all listed on the guide. Very isolated. It did not meet our expectations for a Marriott property. I think they have a staffing problem. If I go back to Saint Croix, I won't be staying there. But I did enjoy feeding the cats. And as others have said, the waitstaff at the bar were very nice - no complaints about them.

Yelp
Our first impressions, this was a long way from being a 4 star resort. Maintainence here seems to be there biggest challenge. First impressions are important. Gutters full of growth and falling off buildings, dirty and uneven concrete [saw many people stumble and fall] doors you have to slam to latch, tv's that don't work; all lead to what did we get ourselves into thoughts, considering they charge upfront for the whoIe stay. After staying here you realize it is older, the sand blows everywhere and the staff is incredible. Any short comings in maintainence is more than made up for. The Staff knows our name, greets us with smiles and asks what they can do. They do clean the rooms but in a short time with the strong constant winds sand gets through the smallest of openings. [More maintanence issues] The grounds are relaxing, making the balconies the place to hang out in the heat of the day. The beaches will lure you in til your are burnt. Other reviews have commented on food, they have a limited menu but everything was good. Come. Stay. Enjoy. We would definitely come back and are planning to bring friends

Yelp
Still not open to the public, only FEMA employees, Lime Tree refinery workers, and certain small groups. The property has still yet to be fully recovered from Hurricane Maria. With good management, it would have a lot of potential. The rooms are nice and large, with kitchens and a spacious bathroom that includes a walk-in closet. The location is beautiful although a bit remote. Many of the central buildings are still under repair, but the hurricane-related issues are not the problem. The customer service runs from mediocre to terrible, something that cannot be blamed on Maria. The worst example was this morning when I went to collect my laundry, which must be dropped off and picked up at the reception desk. The woman sitting at the desk was watching a movie on the computer screen. She made it clean she did not wish to be bothered by a customers and merely pointed to the corner where there was a pile of laundry bags. She was visibly annoyed when I asked to have something done about a nest of spiders in my shower. She had to look away from the computer screen to write down my room number on a note pad. However, the spiders were still there that night and I had to complain about them a second time on the following day. The laundry service is deceptive. Each item is individually priced, my polo shirts were $7.50 each, leading one to expect they would be pressed and put on hangers. Nope, it's only a fluff and fold with all the shirts coming back wrinkled. Unlike the Buccaneer, there are no self-serve washers and dryers on the Renaissance property. By the way, the Renaissance charges $2.10 for one pair of socks. The Renaissance is taking advantage of a captive audience because only about half of the hotels on St Croix have reopened since Maria. Fortunately, a few more will be reopening soon and provide more choices. If a room is available at a decent rate, the Buccaneer is a far superior choice.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed there November 1st through 6th this year Pros: -the best view we have ever had -absolutely loved the beach - close to the Landings restaurant Cons: -House keeping happened ONCE even after I had to walk to the front desk to request again -after housekeeping was requested we came back after a long day exploring the island only to find out someone had put the "do not disturb sign" on our front door. After reading other Google reviews this is apparently a common action so housekeeping does not have to clean room. Only a bag of towels were left for us at our door. - mold behind our toilet - water leaking from our toilet all over the floor - shoes worn in room were a must otherwise our feet were black with dirt -we tried calling numerous times to the front desk (from personal phones since there are none in the rooms) but no one ever answered -restaurant experience was okay but overpriced. (The staff working the bar and restaurant were great though). -whenever we walked to front desk for anything we felt like we were annoying them. Not a great hospitality atmosphere. -Showers at pool did not work. Only a garden hose was available next to showers

Yelp
How many WAYS can I say stay at your own risk?? This place is an understatement of an "Resort and Spa" absolutely blasphemous!! Where do I begin? Let's start at check in, how do you check in and NO ONE is looking at you or acknowledges you? Well this is just the beginning of a four day whirlwind! Firstly, I'm absolutely appalled that Marriott has associated its brand with this lackluster place to lay your head! Just the beginning of what I'd planned for my birthday getaway. Once we arrived at our room, which is described as "Polished suites in an upscale property offering a private beach, an outdoor pool & dining." We discovered a dilapidated room, that's dusty, dirty, dark and lacked anything remotely close to being upscale. After checking in and walking the resort I found my way back to the front desk to ask for extra towels and washcloths, since these were missing from our room, only to be told that there were NONE and they were waiting their arrival. For TWO DAYS, my daughter and I had to share a towel and washcloth! They were never delivered to our room, we actually ended up seeing them outside our room along the wall in four large garbage bags! The next morning I attempted to call the front desk to ask if we were supposed to have complimentary water in our rooms -- to discover the phone line was DEAD! When I ventured back around to the front desk, to ask about the water we were told that water was to be in our room, this never happened. And the phone never fixed. Our room service finally arrived on Saturday, not sure exactly what she did other than change the sheets and towels- the room didn't smell clean, no Lysol (or disinfectant) was sprayed-- we're still experiencing Covid, thankfully we had our own! There were ants in our room, I swear it was as if we were camping in a hard shelter. The landscaping of the property is the ONLY thing that is consistently maintained, at night the property is really dark, there's very little to no path lighting-- the lights are there, just inoperable! One of the hot tubs at the pool apparently was inoperable, they decided to make it a huge planter for a palm tree, because that's exactly what's in it. There no beach umbrellas to sit under at the beach, I find it amazing if you travel 30 minutes away to a place called Rainbow Beach, they're umbrellas everywhere and absolutely no lodging on the beach, but here we are at this "resort" with no beach umbrellas. Did I mention there were no beach towels either? We received them two days into our stay! Breakfast-- a joke! We paid 18$ for breakfast which consisted of a carry out tray of breakfast meat, eggs and depending on the day French Toast sticks or pancakes. There's also fruit, yogurt parfaits, coffee and juice. There's no dinner unless you eat at the bar grill or venture out into the city. The bar closes at 10, so don't get hungry. One Pro: The baggage handlers and the staff at the bar were by far the ONLY positive aspect of this doomsday place! Bottom line... find somewhere else to stay! The pictures that are on Marriotts site is DECEPTIVE and an absolute inaccuracy of this place-- I refuse to call it a resort. Marriott should be ashamed of itself and brand with this place in its portfolio. It wasn't even 24hrs into my stay and I called Marriotts Corporate office to complain. Something needs to change here, immediately.

Yelp
Decided to visit St. Croix area for my birthday...well outside of the Tropical storm that decided to form the night before, previous hurricane and Covid issues, we still decided to give it a try. Well before you spend your time and money which you can't get back please read...The rooms look NOTHING like what you see on the website, the phone was not hooked up in case of an emergency or to call the front desk or housekeeping, stains on the ceiling, the coffee maker had pieces missing along with a used coffee bag from a previous guest, and no trash can. The bar the food was ok, they advertised Taco Tuesday, I thought you can't go wrong with tacos right? Wrong...they were overly priced you had to get 3 tacos minimum which ranged from 6 to 8 dollars the fish taco was pretty tasty, but the chicken was dry and had absolutely no flavor. The drinks were pretty good but the service was extremely slow, there was only one bartender working, I honestly don't think they were expecting the number of guest that arrived in the middle of the week even though you have a system designed to advise you of the number of guest arriving. The pool area had no towels, just 2 bags of dirty ones waiting to be picked up and laundered. One of the guest said "good luck we've been waiting over 30 minutes for clean ones". St this point we headed towards the beach, found several bea cc h chairs which all seemed to be broken which we realized after dragging them 30 yards to our desired location because there wasn't a beach attendant there to assist. The person who gives massages was on vacation, now how do you go on vacation and the masseuse is on vacation and there is no back up??? Because this location is so secluded I would advise you have your driver stop at the local grocery store for water and snacks. Anywho needless to say this birthday celebration vacation will be cut short and moved back to the states because of the poor accomodations. We have traveled abroad and have NEVER had such horrible a experience. I hope anyone that reviews this property takes the time and read this review I should have read the ones prior to our visit. At the end of the day we had clean sheets and towels. The room size was great, however Marriott really needs to take sometime and inspect the property and consider making some changes to these rooms just to meet the safety standards, coming from a property management field, I found so many things out of order which I will not include in this review.

Yelp
I realize we are in a pandemic and things like the spa would be closed and limited amenities, etc. but NO WHERE when we booked were we told that that the ONE restaurant on property would be open when they felt like opening. We are held hostage to this place as there is nowhere to go unless you have a rental car. The staff is completely rude about everything. We only had 2 towels in our room and when I asked for another I was told to "hang your towel to dry". This is insane! I have traveled to many places during Covid and this is by FAR the worst experience I have ever had. Make sure to post on your site next time that you have to bring your own towels and clean your own room. Oh, and go get groceries before you arrive because the ONE restaurant on premise isn't consistent. Breakfast (which was served in a meeting room) was $16 and cold! When I complained I was told "that's what we have". This is an Aimbridge property - so maybe they should put more money into their resorts.

Yelp
Hotel is a dump. Everything in terrible disrepair, food is out of a box, drinks are watered down, room shower is dirty, pool is dirty, the list goes on. Staff are very nice but way too few of them. Gorgeous location but Barely deserves a 1 star

Michael T.

Yelp
Great resort for those looking for quiet. While some rough edges mainly due to hurricane damage, they've done an admirable job keeping the grounds looking nice. Food service and amenities are good. BlThe beach and surrounding area is beautiful. The rough edges I mentioned, some deferred maintenance for buildings showing and some quality improvements needed such as titled shower that's not graded correctly (does not fully drain). However for the price it's well within the acceptable range. Given the level of damage most resort took on the island a few years back and this being a smaller resort, they've done well in recovery. The staff are attentive and welcoming which is often a novelty else where. Rooms have a full kitchenette for the budget minded with a grocery down the road (bit of a walk so a taxi or rental recommended)

Kevin M.

Yelp
Feral cats roaming everywhere. Broken and missing gym equipment. Understaffed and undertrained. No housekeeping. Restaurants have inventory issues. Front desk is uninterested. All it has is an awesome location

Yelp
I do not even know how to review this place. There are so many outstanding things about this resort. The location is amazing, with private beach and decent snorkeling right off the beach. This resort was built to some high standards with mahogany vaulted ceilings. The personnel truly tries their best. The management of this place should be all fired. All of them. The place is so poorly run, so dirty. Filthy truly. We had to buy our own bulbs to replace the ones in the room. The hotel run out of electricity and the backup generator was not working. We had to wonder in town for the whole day way into the night to have something to do and not sit in the dark in the room. The hot tub has not been working in months. The cleaning crew....I found them swiping the floor in the dark (there was no electricity) and basically just pretend cleaning. It's basically a road side motel. It hurts my soul because it's overall such a beautiful idyllic location. It could be so much more. It's a rip off due to lack of upkeep. Shame on you whomever is supposed to be in charged of this place.

Yelp
The worst motel I've ever stayed in, I've forgiven the lack of staff and ability to accommodate most request on time but seriously I can't get Clean towels and sheets I can only ask so many times. I hope to find accommodations else where today. Please God don't let me down FYI make sure you review your bills, especially at the Bar I'll take a pic of the lady that tried to do some special math, little did she know I was very successful in kindergarten with basic math lol

Yelp
Stayed here with my wife and 3 kids in a normal room. In January. I don't think I would have liked it in the summer. It was like staying in an Airbnb with no kitchen. You're pretty much on your own. That doesn't bother us. The location is beautiful and private and the price reflected the level of service we got. For a 5 person family staying here. 1. Rent a car 2. Expect to eat dinner out every night for about $130 3. Get some breakfast and lunch food and a small, plug in skillet for $25. You can eat other meals out of the room but if you don't, you'll pay $100 for every breakfast and lunch as well. 4. Don't expect fresh towels every day. Shake them out and hang them up. Stop at the store and get a bar of soap, shampoo, and toiletries. 5 . The rooms are off the ocean, they depreciate and though a better job can be done cleaning in between guests, don't expect daily cleaning. They can do a better job with some things that would help people. Like the rinse shower off the beach didn't work and that means you will have sand on your feet walking into a room that won't be cleaned. Basically pack something to slip on your feet. You'll want something on your feet IN your room when not sleeping in your bed. 6. If you need something, go get it. 7. The weather in January allowed us to keep the door to the porch open and there was a nice breeze and very few bugs. I think it would have been less tolerable in the summer. The A/C worked great. 8.The room had 2 flat screen tv's that did absolutely nothing. If you want tv, bring the appropriate cables to hook your device up to the tv. The west end of the beach is the best and most private, but it takes a while to walk there and they have friendly staff members who can drive you from A-B. Tip them. The bar and menu is expensive and mediocre. The fine restaurant is excellent. It isn't open every day. There are some great local restaurants right down the road on the coast with big outdoor patio seating 10 min away. Restaurants aren't open late. The pool is ok. The hot tub is not. It's small deep awkward and cold. The showers at the pool are gross. I didn't see a person in the pool for the 5 days I was there. BECAUSE EVERYONE IN ON THE AMAZING BEAUTIFUL BEACH. You can have a great stay here.

Yelp
For the amount of money we paid for this resort we really expected more than a motel 6 experience. We were there for 7 days and We only received room service once - after having to ask. The one day they did come in, They took the towels but didn't replace them, we had to take out our own garbage everyday, they did not change our sheets and only made the beds. The staff was rude and extremely unhelpful. We asked for an extra blanket, they said they don't offer that. We asked more towels, there were none. We asked for ping pong balls, they didn't even know there was a ping pong table. The walk was extremely long and no one ever offered to drive us in the multiple golf carts they had as they said they weren't in working condition. The bathroom by the pool was disgusting and back up in the toilet. Hot tub didn't work, that was extremely disappointing. The bricks around the pool are a hazard. Especially with kids around. We were made to feel like a bother. By all of the front desk people. Literally the worst part of our vacation was the service here. Very disappointing. Food was put under our room number even though we had not ordered anything for room service. The couple of things we did enjoy: The beach was great and well kept. The views are amazing. We were very worried about bed bugs or bugs in general in the rooms but we did not see any in the rooms at all! The gate attendants who let you into the resort were always pleasant. All of the negatives were enough to want us to not stay here again. Ever. We stayed a few extra days at different rentals and it was a much better experience.

Yelp
Enjoyed every part of my stay here! The rooms were clean, spacious, and provided the needed amenities. I loved the screened porch in every room. This part of the island is rainforest and the resort was engulfed in trees, wildlife, and beautiful flora. It was nice that there was a private beach right in front of the hotel's vicinity and that there were beach chairs to accommodate you. There is also a restaurant that can also delivery food to your room. All these come for a steep price though. Each day you are charged with resort fees and the stay here is not cheap. The restaurant meals were expensive and you'll come to learn as with all the restaurants in St. Croix! Besides the hefty price, the staff here are very friendly agreeing with all the others who reviewed this place. It is secluded and quiet in this side of the island but everyone was welcoming. Except for the gift shop lady, every day we went she was a little grumpy whenever people came in to shop. All in all this was a great choice, for me and my companions as we vacationed for our first time in St. Croix.

Yelp
We stayed here recently for a week. I had higher hopes coming in and was used to a higher level of Marriott properties I have been told that was not fair to compare this resort to a nicer resort. The location is absolutely amazing and the beach is phenomenal. The restaurant is your typical bar food but the bartenders and staff are completely overworked And overwhelmed. The entire hotel short staffed and because of that the service is lacking. If we were to come back we would bring our own towels and toiletries. The hot tub did not work and they were having pool issues as well. There are parts of the resort that have not Been repaired or recovered since last hurricane.

Yelp
Are you kidding me! What you read in the last year is all still happening today. Forget COVID. This place is still suffering from 2017 hurricane. If they didn't lie and pretend it's all good (until you get there) your expectations at least would be set. Beautiful property and amazing weather though. Have to have a car if you stay here. If you love your coffee, set your vacation alarm to get a tiny styrofoam cup between 7-9a or.... you're screwed. Same with the styrofoam breakfast (that you pay for BTW). If you like fresh towels, don't know what to say. Beg for them daily? Yep. Drinks are expensive and subpar. One bartender who does it ALL. Poor girl. Very limited fried menu that never changes. Dirty rooms. Keep lights low so you don't notice. Oh, the lights are low, I forgot. Found out on our last day that the Government owns this hotel now. FEMA workers get put up there. And, not much is being done to improve property because of mismanagement of funds. There is SO much more that is bad here. Read the other guests experiences. If they would tell you the truth before you arrive and update photos on their website, you can at least be prepared like if you were staying at a motel. Then, you could enjoy the beautiful property with those expectations. St Croix is beautiful. Luckily after the first couple days of our stay, we shook it off and had a great time!

Yelp
I stayed from 8-17 Dec and it's a Motel 6 with a beach. It looks good from a distance but when you look closer you see it needs a lot of work. The room safe was inoperable when we arrived and we asked three times for security to open it so we could use it and the request went unanswered. One of the faucets in the bathroom lacked a screen so the water splashed everywhere unless you barely turned the water on. I reported this issue on our first day and it was never fixed. The phone in the room only worked on speaker mode and this was reported and never fixed. The resort states they "deep clean" between guests but I seriously doubt that. The floors were gritty with sand and we wiped out the drawers before we even thought of using them. Each room has a private patio, which is nice, but the screens on most patios are gone. You must use insect repellent if you want to use your patio so the missing screens was a disappointment. We had the package that included breakfast, which was eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and rotating waffles (Think eggo store-bought, not fresh), pancakes or French toast. Coffee, assorted juices and yogurt were also available. The food was barely warm and the server had a pretty poor attitude everyday. The smoke detectors in the breakfast room were chirping during our entire stay because the batteries needed to be replaced so either the employees never reported the issue or they did and maintenance didn't care, either are entirely plausible. The bar served food from 4 to 8pm daily and closed entirely at 9pm. The meals we had, a margarita pizza one night and chicken wings and a grilled chicken sandwich another night were okay. Tropical drinks were $12 each and were the worst we had the entire time we were on the island. We were charged a $13.65 daily resort fee and God only knows what that pays for. I've stayed at plenty of Marriott properties over the years and it's one reason I chose this resort. I expected more and was disappointed every time. Some Positives The private beach is very nice and ideal for swimming or snorkeling. Sweet Bottom Dive Center is going to re-open a satellite dive shop on the property soon. It would be nice for the walls dives on the north shore. You have to pass a security check to get on the property so it's pretty secure. It's about 2 miles away from Cane Bay beaches and three restaurants which are all better than the food at the Carambola. You have a 20 minute drive to Frederiksted through some winding mountain roads but it is a nice drive. It's an adventure to navigate and avoid the pot holes that are common island wide.

Natasha W.

Yelp
Where shall I begin.....staff was super nice. Food was great, especially the omelets for breakfast and the snapper (without the head lol!) The property would be really nice if they got a lot of TLC. There was mold in the bathroom, a lizard in the shower, towels were stained, sofa bed had stains

Emily Z.

Yelp
Carambola resort is not reflective of the Marriott brand I've come to trust. Most of this property is dangerous and unusable to guests and what is open is weathered, damaged and dirty. The room is surface clean but every corner has mildew, tv remotes don't function, appliances are covered in residue and there was condensation on every window. Our room had a balcony area that was not screened and had ragged cushions on the benches. Guests are charged a resort fee for the amenities but spa, hot tub, main dining room, basketball and tennis courts are closed and unusable. When hiking, we were directed to a path that led through the basketball and tennis courts. They were littered with vine covered golf carts, broken appliances and lawn furniture. Cats and mongoose roam the property. Guests were leaving cat food in the parking lots for them. Menu items are repeated everyday and are over priced. The quality of food is fine but so expensive. Service is top notch but there are only 10 people visibly working between front desk, landscaping, housekeeping and kitchen staff. We saw multiple employees each of the 7 days of our stay, all day indicating 12hr+ days. We rented a Jeep. We ended up in many beautiful locations on the island that have been repaired from hurricanes. The Virgin bioluminescent kayak trip and Buck Island with Big Beards are memories I will cherish. However, much of St Croix matches the state of this resort.

Nalini K.

Yelp
Definitely not a four star resort, however for St. Croix, the resort is good enough. Good beach access. Food isn't anything special or great. Drinks are okay. Remote so that it feels more private if you come when it's not crowded. I echo the sentiment of others when it comes to lack of room cleanliness.

Yelp
Our stay here was excellent from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. We had an amazing view from our lanai, gorgeous luxurious bed linens and clean accommodations. The grounds were well groomed and the pool was pristine. The beach is where we spent the majority of our time, it was our own slice of paradise just yards away from our room. My only constructive criticism is that the on-site restaurant was a bit pricey and being that the rooms have a stove I would suggest that they also equip pot/pan cooking utensils. We really couldn't ask for much more, this resort exceeded our expectations and we're so grateful that we found it.

Yelp
This was by far the worst experience I've EVER had in a hotel, and I've traveled the world. This was an absolute disaster. I opted for early check in (at 2pm) as our flight landed at 1:30. We went to the desk and were told our room was not ready. We were required to pay without having access to the room where we were surprised by an additional $250 in charges that we were told were $50/day in incidentals. We did not actually get into our room until 6pm. When we did, the door was totally open. When we walked in we were FLOORED. It was atrocious. (I will attach pictures of the room we were supposed to get vs. what we got). The room was filthy. The couch in the room was not just worn, but revolting. There is one restaurant on the resort and it has 14 (literally) items on the menu. Ranging from $15-25. The drinks were 12oz drinks for $14. The service itself was horrible and took well over half an hour to get only drinks and almost an hour wait for anything food related. (Although, we did encounter Katharina and another female waitress who were beyond nice and helpful! Even for recommendations off the resort!) The private beach was beautiful but had 8 whole beach chairs. We attempted a visit to the pool and what we thought was a dated pool with clear water turned out to be absolutely atrocious. We got in only to realize we couldn't see our feet when standing in the 4 foot section. I'd like to say the hot tub was better, but naturally it wasn't, as everything else on the island, it's been "broken since hurricane Maria, back in 2017". We were told we could only have 2 towels at the pool in exchange for the towel card that was given to us at check in (that we were not given.) Among the pool towel issue, there were 3 of us in our room (that held 4) and we were only allowed two towels. Since there were three of us in our room, we did ask for additional bedding and towels on our first day, we still do not have them and it is day 5. The two towels and wash cloths that were in the room were all different shades of bleached "white" and stained horribly. There was another guests razor in the shower when we arrived. We have gone to the office multiple times and called endlessly where we literally get hung up on. The king size bed that 3 of us have had to share (since we refused to even go near the pull out couch nor did we have the option as we were given no bedding for it), was spring and older than I am. It was terrible. We have all woken up with back and hip pain. (We did look for other rooms on the island, as well as a refund, to no avail. There was nothing available on the island.) We received absolutely NO housekeeping services during the entire stay. The remote control to the TV did not work and was held together by tape, and the room phone was in pieces and did not work. At one point, we had walked back into our room to find urine in our toilet. Astonished, we called down to the office, when we did get an answer we were infuriated to find that the woman "could not tell us if someone had gone into our room while we were gone." At multiple points during our stay, the key cards did not work to let us in, which required us hiking back to the front desk to get them rekeyed. Conveniently, we found a staff member while we waited on the desk to rekey and she let us into our room. (Although nice, she did nothing to verify our identity or belonging to the room and let us in without question.) On day 5 of our trip it started to rain, which wouldn't have been a problem if it was just outside, but as you can guess it was not. The rain was POURING in from our door (which also did not have a hotel lock to lock from the inside.) As a product of having no linens, we had nothing to mop the water that went clear across the room. We have called the office 3x today in hopes to get additional linen to mop the water with and have had no luck. Once we did find someone in a golf cart and requested extra towels for the floor, the man brought one. (This single towel, took over 10 hours to receive.) As if moping rain water off the floor wasn't enough moping, the shower did not seal and puddled the entire bathroom floor. This stay has been absolutely disgusting, tragic, and put a horrific taste in our mouth of this "resort", the Marriott, and the island. Quick addition: while typing this, a man just walked into our room unannounced, without knocking, to deliver 3 more towels. (Also notable, the resort did not have their own taxi service. In order to get a taxi, it had to be called into the office 2+ hours in advance. And the service was a minimum of $60 round trip for 3 people. $45 one way from the airport.)

Yelp
It's worth it to upgrade your room, beautiful resort, awesome bartenders. You're definitely in the middle of a rainforest, bring bug spray and long sleeves.

Yelp
Where to begin? They have a kitchenette but not one utensil in any of the empty cupboards or drawers. If you ask for any, they tell you they'll bring them to you but they never actually do. After asking four times with no results with multiple staff I realized their plan was for me to give up, so I did. If you want a towel for the beach or the pool wait in line in the lobby, because they don't keep them by the pool like a normal place would. Housekeeping removes your only two paper coffee cups and doesn't replace them, so you don't even have anything to drink your morning cup coffee out of. They also take towels away and don't replace them all. Again, you get to ask for more and not receive them or just reuse one towel. Their store is closed. The gym AC doesn't work, and they don't plan on fixing it. Windows are boarded up instead of having the glass replaced. The couches in the rooms look a century old and are stained. Lumpy pillows need replacement. Doors aren't hung straight so they scrape on the bottom. The TVs are tiny (27-32"). The cable drops out intermittently. Power outages are common, and can last 15 minutes to an hour or more, so internet and phone drops out as well. The fridge in the room is so old that it no longer seals properly when you close the door which causes icing up and puddles of condensation. I did figure out to push the bottom of the fridge with my foot really hard each time I closed it which seem to solve the problem. Also, a rental car is a must as everything is 20 minutes or more away, including eating out. Good luck!

Yelp
The rooms are not clean upon arrival there were dead bugs on the washcloths we asked the front desk for more and she said she didn't have any and our room would be serviced the next day. I got at least 40-50 bug bites from our room. The shower head would almost fall off every time we used it. The furniture was very old moldy and dated. The phone didn't work so you had to use your cell to call the front desk. There was NO tv in the bedroom area but wall mounts showing there was a tv a one time. No gift shop or small store for drinks, medicine, or snacks on this property. Bar was open during random hours. There is no restaurant on the resort and food was only available during certain hours. Also keep in mind you NEED a car because there is a 15-20 minute drive. There is no entertainment at all. I felt so bad for the children staying here. No bell hop or employee to help get you or your luggage to the room and the walk was extremely far from reception area. We have stayed in many resorts through the years in the caribbean and other countries and this was by far the worst. We would not recommend this property

Yelp
I recently stayed at the resort. I was there with a friend from 10/15/23-10/22/23. While I was there someone on staff entered my room while I was at the beach and took $101 out of my purse. Although I knew exactly what I had, where it was, and that I had not taken it out of my purse, I still second guessed myself and searched the entire room for it. 99% of the staff at the resort were very friendly and I did not want to believe that one of them had stolen from me. 2 days later, I returned in the evening to find my iphone charger was missing that had been plugged into the nightstand. I reported this and was told several times it was being investigated. I am now home and have not been contacted and nothing has been done. I have attempted to call and message the resort and still they have done nothing. I spent a lot of money there, money I work very hard for and this is not acceptable. I overlooked that the resort was a little run down and the two roaches that I had to kill. Those things, I can deal with. But, I can not deal with being stolen from. Guests should be taken better care of and restitution should be given if staff steals from the guests. I loved the island, I loved the location of the resort, and many of the staff members. There needs to be a better process in place for these kinds of situations.
