Dinner for four and another great experience. This isn’t our first time here, and we always make a point to come back whenever we visit Barcelona. The food was fantastic as always. The razor clam was delicious, the crab was incredibly good, and the mango and pineapple dessert was impressive

Excellent experience! Superb preparations, delicious dishes! The suquet de peix was hearty, all three choices were spectacular, beautiful aromas and flavours! Kind, friendly and efficient staff. Fast service. Very good location, near the harbour. Totally recommend!

Carballeira Restaurant in Barceloneta gave me that classic, old-school seafood experience. It’s not trendy or modern — it feels traditional, almost timeless, with a calm and slightly formal atmosphere. I went there specifically for seafood, and it didn’t disappoint. The Galician-style octopus was tender and well-seasoned, simple but full of flavor. The seafood platter was generous, fresh, and nicely presented. The dining room feels elegant in a traditional way — white tablecloths, attentive service, and a quieter pace compared to the busy beachside restaurants nearby. Carballeira is a solid choice if you’re looking for classic Spanish and Galician flavors in a more refined setting in Barcelona.

Excellent food, impeccable service! If you truly appreciate quality, this is a place you should visit! Top choice: Blanco espumoso, a white wine preserved at 60 metres under the water. It goes perfectly with the most fresh and delicious oysters. Also, they have a great variety of seafood and fish!

One of the best seafood restaurants I've seen! Service was impeccable, food was out of this world. Highly recommend for a classic place with delicious food! Wine recommendation was also spot on.

Nothing kills an experience for me more than bad service. I am more forgiving of bad food. And I have to seriously applaud Carballeira Restaurant for their outstanding service and attention. We walked in for lunch without reservations and were immediately seated. Service was super quick. The servers were amazingly friendly and helpful. They all worked together as a team and were extremely attentive. The food was impeccably fresh and well seasoned. We ordered more food than usual. Escargot, crispy cod, lamb shoulder, crab, and cheesecake along with some cocktails. Everything we ate was delicious and well presented, cocktails were well made. Highly recommend. Will definitely visit again.

Biggest disappointment of a meal our whole trip in Spain. Suggested by our hotel and given the high rating, went to eat there. No reservation needed as they were not that busy. That should have told me something. Waiter spoke little to no English so huge communication gap. Wanted fresh seafood so ordered off their “specials” menu. Had the clams which were tasty, but so tiny you barely got any meat. They had a albacore tuna so thought I would try that but instead of being sashimi grade tuna or something super fresh, it was a cooked fish that was well done and then pickled in Al de type of vinegar. It was disgusting. We got their paella for two which basically was rice with cuttlefish bits chopped up in it and came with one prawn, one shrimp, and 2 clams for each person. That’s it - and it was 50€. Spent over 120€ and left hungry. I do not recommend this place.

For the second time in so many trips to Barcelona, this turned out to be the best meal. I really like seafood paella, and this place does not disappoint. Came here on my first night in town. Made a reservation online - easy. This time Carballeira was really close to my hotel, so easy to get to. Nice, pleasant service and a stylish atmosphere. I was greeted by name (nice!) and seated where I could see both the dining room and the open (and sparkling clean) kitchen. Being a paella amateur enthusiast, it was fun getting to watch the kitchen make paella (I picked up some nice tips). Really nice place. I had the pan con tomate (Barcelona, of course?) and the seafood paella. Both times I've been here I have read that the dish is for two. Both times I have offered to pay for two people just to have the paella. Both times I've been turned down and told that they would make it for one. So nice. For a solo business traveler many times that does not happen. Great of the establishment to do so. I wish there would be a little more in the paella, but what is there is so tasty! Delicious seafood paella. The best I've had in the city. You will not be disappointed. Nice flan for dessert - perfect ending. Go check out Carballeira's!

We had reservations and not a lot of people were there. Cheese bread was great! Seafood Paella was just ok. one mussel was not open and the waiter tried T push open & finally replaced it. waiter asked for a tip.

First thing to know about this place is better to have a reservation. That will be the first thing to be asked as someone steps in. Although, we saw people without reservations being seated. Maybe if they are not busy, walk ins are acceptable. We were here on a Tuesday at 1pm, when they open. It is a nicer, upscale, sit down and take your time kind of restaurant. Seems like dinner time maybe busier than the lunch time but we liked how quiet and not too crowded when we were here for lunch. We ordered Octopus in Galician style, assorted seafood, Iberian acorn-fed Ham and charcoal grilled vegetables. The Octopus in Galician style was the best. I can't believe how soft these octopus are! It does not feel like octopus at all and the seasoning goes well with the steamed potatoes it came with. Charcoal grilled vegetables and assorted seafood were also good. The shrimps were a bit hard to shell but other than that, no complaints. Full of ocean flavor in each of them! Iberian acorn-fed Ham was a bit disappointing though. I could get very similar tasting jamon iberico at any grocery store at fraction of the price. Probably should have stuck with seafood at a seafood restaurant!

You cannot get better prepared seafood! After two nights in a roll going to Michelin stared contemporary, creative restaurants, a traditional place like Carballeria was a great way to reset my palate. Started with goose barnacles, a simple preparation but it brought back fond memories of past visits to Barcelona. The seafood soup that follows was rich. The monk fish was tender and moist. Deep fried garlic slices added a layer of flavor. To first finish, I ordered the clams grilled. They were so fresh and perfectly cooked, had to order another portion! Service was timely reflecting the experience of the staff. Spoken English was okay, we understood each other. I shared a glass of sweet wine with him at the end of the night

Yes please let me have the artichokes again oh my so freaking good!!!! Service excellent pork cheeks were amazing as well

The ambiance of the restaurant is phenomenal, but doesn't even come close to the food. I ordered the filet mignon, and it completely surpassed my expectations in the best way. The service was also great; David was very patient with my American father.

Honestly, we stumbled upon this gorgeous restaurant on a Sunday. They were swamped, all locals, but they sat us outside. Service was friendly though not much English, you will want to try Spanish or have your translator app ready. Freshest fish! We had tomato tuna salad that was delish Baby scallops cooked with garlic. Seafood at its very finest just blocks from the sea. Best lunch of my entire trip!

Founded in 1944, close to pier, opposite side of beach road, sitting outside for lunch in mid Oct feels quite relaxed. The foods are very tasty and service was so good. Will come back for next time.

Food was great, seafood Fabada and goat , service was supreme. Reservations recommended. And please dress appropriately. There was a guest in pajama shorts totally ruining the vibe. Embarrassing.

Review based solely on all of us ordering paella on the recommendation of our hotel concierge, who said it was his favorite paella on Barcelona. We are now suspect. We thought it was pretty terrible. Bland, bland, bland. For place specializing in seafood, each of us got 1 mussel, 2 clams and 2 prawns. Did I mention it was bland? But the wine mentioned in another review, Quinta de cousela, was very good!

Came here after a suggestion from hotel in the area. Great vibe, seriously yummy seafood & Sangria. Smooth Jazz playing in the background. Great conversation with owner. Told it's frequented by mostly locals. Felt so honored to be the lone American at the bar!

Ate dinner here in May looking for a good meal. White cloth tablecloths, nice looking restaurant. But food was so disappointing. Tortilla de bacaloao was more of an omelet with a few pieces of cod thrown in than a spanish tortialla. Patatas Fritas were pretty lame french fries. Seafood paella was just so-so, pretty bland and dry. Service was okay - though it was not at all busy. Just a really disappointing meal. There are better places to go.

The food was just OK, the paella was undercooked yet the seafood was overbooked. The service was horrible! The waiter acted like it was a burden to take our order and then talked about us to the chef that was 4 feet away from our table. We may not have been speaking Spanish, but that doesn't mean we don't speak Spanish.I normally leave large tips for waiters. If the tip wasn't included in the bill, this waiter would've gotten nothing.

Rally personal and excellent service. Fresh and best quality seafood, meat and vegetables prepared by one of the best chefs in the city. Maitrede is one of kind!I will be back

First things first. THIS IS THE BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANT (if not restaurant in Barcelona) BAR NONE. I have a conspiracy theory. I believe that the lack of reviews are because the locals do not want you to come to this place ( it was packed). We are from Virginia and the hotel practically insisted we go. The place is beautiful he the maître d' knew the hotel had phoned in the reservation. The service was impeccable and the food was, (well) I'm still trying to find words on how wonderful it was. We had the grilled Tobit fish. Never had anything this delicious and we've dined in several high end restaurants throughout the east & west coast. Everything is prepared fresh as they present it to you prior to cooking it. Please make this restaurant a go to especially for a special occasion. Very romantic (for guys looking to impress your wife or girlfriend). We have one more day and we will be visiting the restaurant for our final meal before leaving Barcelona.

Our waiter Juan Carlos was awesome. Made some great recommendations. Service was A+. Everything we ordered came out perfect. The seafood is so fresh. Angelo checked us out and was very accommodating (we needed individual bills and they made it work). Apparently the locals dine here. I can see why. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I hope to be back one day!

We received a recommendation from the hotel to visit this place for dinner. I'll start by saying the service was downright terrible. We started off with a service that seemed to take more than 15 minutes for someone to first make eye contact and acknowledge us let alone allow us to get a drink order in. After an extremely troubling start - I believe it was the manager who did finally engage and helped move service along which remained bumpy throughout - until we were finally done eating and he offered us an after dinner drink on the house. Aside from the service, the food was good though. Fresh and tasty seafood all around from the starters through the main courses. Octopus and swordfish were very fresh and well prepared - and the paella was also well executed. I almost gave this restaurant 2 stars because the service was so bad; however, I would have liked to give 4 stars for the overall ambience and quality of the food.

The oldest Galician restaurant in Barcelona is also, in my opinion, the city's best eatery. From their exquisite menu, to their prime location along the edge of the Gothic Quarter's border with La Barceloneta, from their outstanding staff and absolutely delicious, authentic, and magisterially-researched and masterfully prepared cuisine, Carballeira was a pleasant surprise on our vacation and I would strongly recommend it to anyone seeking great seafood and Galician dishes.

Located near the marina not very far from Rambla, this restaurant is mainly visited by local inhabitants. You will find there plenty of seafoods very fresh and very well cooked (oysters, sea siders, prawns, navajas, cigalas, ...). Every dish is really tasty and you should try there as many plates as you can; just ask them to serve you in tapas style.

Worst form of tourist trap. Terrible food and lethargic service. Mushrooms were a sandy mess. Chorizo omelette had no chorizo. Fish soup had only small amount of fish and was too salty. To top it off the restaurant was roasting hot. One of the worst dinning experiences ever.

Awesome fresh seafood with good attentive service. Expensive but was worth it. Got the cold platter, planchas (razor clams) and some nice cold beer to go with it .

Nothing special. Overpriced. Seafood soup salty as hell returned it. Service lousy. Staff doesn't speak good English.
