5 Vintage-Inspired Outfits to Wear on Vacation This Summer

"Located on the northern Cornwall coast, Carbis Bay Estate is known for its tranquil ambiance and historical charm, dating back to 1894. It's an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy the English seaside in a serene environment, away from the more tropical locales."

Upon arrival we were greeted by very unenthusiastic reception staff, were given a VERY brief ‘tour’ of the hotel, but still left wondering where breakfast would be served and at which times. We were left to figure out a lot of things for ourselves. When I asked a member of staff to later show me where breakfast was served I was shown very reluctantly with a sigh?! We asked which restaurants were available and what kind of food was serviced and the staff member did not know?? The breakfast was very underwhelming! Despite there being ample seating outside we were told we could not sit outside unless we had an allergy? I asked another member of staff if we could move outside to which I was told yes, then when we asked our original waiter if they would be happy to take our order he told us to “find the lady who let you sit outside”. The overall customer service was a truly bizzare experience which left me and my husband feeling unsettled and unwelcome. We paid £400 for a superior room that did not feel very superior. It was very small, no AC, very few amenities, a few tea bags and a kettle at most. The bathroom was not clean and the bedroom was in need of a huge upgrade, as well as the rest of the hotel in general. The carpet on the stairs is very dirty so doesn’t set the best impression when heading to our bedroom. It is safe to say we would not be returning to this overpriced, outdated and poorly run hotel. One positive was - Benin was lovely and very helpful.

We booked a room for our 20th anniversary as a treat and after an initial mix up with rooms, the staff were fantastic. Room issue resolved quickly - with a very special thank you to Cara, Emma & Lesley.||We had Junior Beach Suite - just stunning. Everything was perfect. The view from the room is incredible . We got in the sea within moments of being there. Easily accessed from the room. Sat in the armchairs our room , just watching the world go by, listening to the waves - tranquil is the word!!||Below the room is Walters and the Deli - so nice and easy to meander down for food and coffee when needed. And in the evening - you wouldn't know you are above a restaurant.||I cant explain how fab this evening off for us was, Staff were so helpful and friendly, the food at Walters is exceptional, the spa pools and sauna is wonderful.||Thank you all again!

The difference they say before 4 star and 5 star is the service . There may be some truth in that , but Carbis Bay Estate is just not run properly. The food is ok, nothing special, the service is alright , a blend of inconvenience and forced politeness is offered , but the main problem with this is place is the lack of care . The social media looks great , I have been here lots of times before , so they do get it and they can do it . Having dined in the orangery it was all a bit grubby , all a bit tired and very, very expensive for what was very very average food. The British are horrible at hospitality and this is never more evident than here, or at least our experience. Where is the pride , the care , the true belief that customers should be made welcome the place should be properly cleaned ( looked to me like the place needs some serious work here) , customers valued , the atmosphere should be warm and inviting . As it was , this was an exceptionally average dining experience in every sense , except the ridiculously large bill at the end of it . It’s a real shame . I really hope that if this review does get read they take it in the spirit in which it is offered , it’s in their gift to do so , lack of staff or not

From the moment we arrived at Carbis Bay Hotel’s luxury lodges, everything about our stay was exceptional – but what really took it to the next level was Sam. He looked after us incredibly well from start to finish, going above and beyond at every opportunity.||We were treated to complimentary bottles of wine, champagne and delicious food – all delivered with a genuine smile and nothing ever too much trouble. Any request we had was sorted within minutes – often within 60 seconds! It honestly felt like having a personal concierge on hand at all times.||The lodges themselves are stunning – spacious, luxurious, and with breathtaking views that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a dream. Every detail is thought through, from the décor to the tech to the private outdoor spaces.||But again, what made this experience unforgettable was the service. Sam, thank you – you made us feel truly looked after and we’ll be talking about this trip for years.||If you’re thinking of booking – do it. You won’t regret it.

Bought a very good deal at the sister hotel The Gannet and then was given a complimentary upgrade to the Carbis Bay, which was obviously a nice touch, especially as it was Valentines. The room was nice but with no wow factor. No milk, biscuits, cake etc with the tea/coffee? Had a great table in the restaurant looking out to sea. Great choice of dishes included within the deal, but a £15 supplement on some dishes. Food was very good but wine menu was very expensive. Following day had the same table for breakfast when we could really appreciate the view and hotels' superb location. Breakfast choice and quality were very good. Great coastal walk from the hotel into St Ives. One aspect we and others didn't appreciate was that the spa users had to walk through the restaurant in bathrobes to get access to the spa facilities. Is a separate entrance required? I can see why the G7 conference was held here. The beach location is stunning and has good access to the pretty town of St Ives. We will be back when the weather is better, which may add the wow factor which we didn't feel on this occasion

Relying on the amazing views does not justify the shabby and uncared for guest rooms and communal areas. We stayed for 4 nights on the top floor of the main hotel. We had one of the few rooms with a bath. The bathroom and bedroom stank of sewage . After the first night I asked reception if they could get maintenance to look into the smell. No one bothered the smell continued. I asked again the next day and if nothing could be done could they at least provide an air freshener. Again nothing. The next day I asked to speak to the manager who said no one had mentioned it to her. She offered a room overlooking the car park by reception on the ground floor which we did not accept. However, whilst we were out they fixed the smell for our last night. It really felt like they did not care. The hotel looked shabby and unclean. Gravel remained on the stair carpet throughout our stay along with many stains and when they made up our room each day they did not straighten the ill fitting sheets they just covered them . This is not a cheap hotel.|As for the food offerings the beach club is very expensive for very average food. The only decent restaurant was Adam Handing’s Ugly Butterfly which was shutting just after our visit. Luckily there are plenty of great restaurants in St Ives. Relying on the fact that you hosted the G7 summit many years ago has given this hotel delusion of grandeur which are not justified.

I'm almost reluctant to leave this review as I'm selfish and want to keep Carbis Bay just for my partner and I! Having dined previously at the Ugly Butterfly, and having stayed at one of the hotel's holiday apartments with a friend, this was our first time staying in the main hotel, and it was so incredibly special. We stayed the first two nights in the hotel, then in a beach lodge for our last night for my birthday. The staff, location, food and spa made our stay perfect. A special thank you to Jamie-Lee and Josh, both of whom were kind, thoughtful and went above and beyond during our stay. Jamie-Lee helped make the day of my birthday my favourite birthday to date, and I've had far more than I care to remember. When you sit looking out to see on a sunny day in Carbis Bay, either from the spa or one of the many restaurants, you could easily be in another country, somewhere considered far more 'glamourous'. It has almost an Azores or Maldives feeling, with stunning golden beaches and shimmering blue sea, never overly busy and always clean and beautiful. People forget how stunning the UK coastline is, and this is the absolute crown jewel. We are already planning our return trip from the train. Thanks so much to all at the hotel for such a spectacular trip and memorable birthday.

We recently stayed at the Carbis Bay Hotel and were impressed by the stunning setting and beautiful private beach. The hotel grounds are immaculate, and the coastal views are genuinely breathtaking. Our room was comfortable, with thoughtful touches throughout, although some parts of the hotel could use a little refreshing. Staff were generally attentive, though service could be slow during peak times. Overall, a memorable stay in a unique location, perfect for a relaxing break by the sea.

Yelp
The Carbis bay hotel is set right on the edge of the gorgeous Carbis Bay in Cornwall. I have frequented here a few times - after a coastal walk, for My sisters wedding here, I came here for a high tea and I also came for a lunch. The views from the hotel, gardens, conservatory, patio are amazing - worth coming for this alone. My sister also stayed inside the hotel and was very pleased with her room. They have refurbished and expanded recently and it shows. They have a heated pool, and a spa. My sisters wedding went without a hitch, and she was very pleased with her wedding arrangements, service, wedding planning and food at the reception and evening do. I have also had a high tea here with my parents - and thoroughly enjoyed the delicate sandwiches, tea and their wonderful sweets. Here is some information about the history - Built in 1894 by the renowned Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail, the Carbis Bay Hotel quickly gained popularity as a result of the boom in British seaside holidays, which had been made possible by expansion of the railways. Indeed, at the turn of the 19th century, neighbouring Carbis Bay station was a grand affair, boasting its own stationmaster, station house and full-time staff. Today, the business is owned and managed by the Baker family, who have made significant developments to the hotel. Due to this ongoing investment programme, Carbis Bay is widely recognised as one of Cornwall's premier waterside hotels. The Estate comprises 125 acres within which is situated the 47-room hotel and most of our coastal properties. This place is a MUST DO FOR A VISIT OR A STAY when coming to Carbis Bay.

Yelp
I have now been to Cornwall a grand total of five times over the last four years and each time I drive along the road from Lelant to St Ives I am left in awe of the beautiful coastline. Cornwall has many stunning area's but St Ives has stolen my heart and run away with it. There are many different beaches to keep everyone from sun worshippers to surfers occupied. Porthmeor is a surfers paradise, a huge sandy beach with enormous waves provide the perfect setting for thrill seekers. Above Porthmeor stands the Tate Gallery, the ultimate place for any art lover. Porthgwidden is more secluded but again it has fantastic waves, a perfect family beach with lots of rock pools for the little ones to explore. It is also small enough to allow children to wander without ever losing eye contact, which as a parent is always a bonus. Porthminster is the most fashionable beach on offer in my opinion, it is a beautiful beach with a golf course and a resturant all on site. Perfect for any young couple. My personal favourite is Carbis Bay, this stunning beach just around the corner from St Ives but just as busy on the weekend. The sea is a lot calmer here which makes it easier to see the fantastic colours of the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately it is still extremely cold but when it's that beautiful who cares? The Carbis Bay hotel is just as stunning as the bay itself. Standing guard on a hillside over-looking the beach it's the perfect setting for a relaxing break. The hotel has many facilities, Amusement arcades for the youngsters, Resturant & well stocked bar for the adults, The jewel in the Carbis Bay hotels crown is however the roof terrace. Enough to satisfy any sun worshippers needs the roof terrace is home to a pool and a bar with a view to die for. I would highly recommend this hotel for families or couples that enjoy the pleasure of a lazy holiday! You would have to go to the Caribbean to find anything to match this superb coast line. I have been to the Caribbean where I paid one hundred pounds to see dolphins, the last time I took a trip to St Ives my family were treated to a visit from the local dolphins for free, not once but twice!

Yelp
This is all a bit too posh for me. Tiny portions and relatively large prices. The food tastes good though and the service is both friendly and attractive. Haven't stayed here but the location is pleasant and the hotel has a good old history going back over a century.

Yelp
This hotel overlooks the broad sweep of Carbis Bay, with access to the beach, and a pool. Many rooms have lovely views. The nearby train station has services into St Ives, or you can enjoy the walk into town along the cliffs. The rooms are pleasantly decorated in a modern style. Many have sea views. The restaurant serves good modern cooking, and the conservatory does bar snacks and afternoon tea. Rack rate is £81 (low season) to £101 (high), per person for DINNER, B&B.

Yelp
Today we took our elderly mother here for a Mother's Day lunch, we arrived to find a packed car park and a very frazzled member of staff trying to appease customers arriving. It should be noted that the approach to the hotel is very steep and when busy impossible to drive close to the entrance with elderly/frail guests. Dinner was served in a beautiful setting with glorious sea views but was spoilt by the long wait to be served every course, we waited so long between courses we were sat at the table for nearly two hours for what in fact were three very meagre courses. Even my octaganarian mother commented that two potatoes was a little on the mean side! We were guided to a conservatory for our coffee wich would have been delightful had we not had to wait 40 minutes for it to arrive despite me enquiring after half an hour as to where it was. The final rub was seeing an advert for Sunday lunch at the reception desk for five pounds cheaper than we had to pay today for the privilege of being there on Mother's Day! To be fair the manager did refund the cost of our coffees when I told him of the poor service but I don't think we will repeat the experience next year.

Yelp
Although I have never stayed here I have attended functions here. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The setting itself is truly amazing and the building has superb views. The food has never disappointed whether it be a Christmas do, wedding or sunday roast.

Yelp
Oh, the Carbis Bay Hotel. Whilst I've never stayed here, the functions that I have been to here have been perfect. Delicious food, great atmosphere. Sitting in the bar area, watching the night draw in over the beautiful Carbis Bay Beach is a step away from heaven. For our function we had roast beef which was the best I've ever tasted, and the extras they put on - from crackers on the table to balloons that caused hours of fun - it truly was a great evening. Friends of the family have visited on a late break to the hotel in September - the perfect time of the year to visit apparently! Enjoy!
